The Duel Academy was abuzz with excitement as the annual Halloween festival drew near. Students rushed around, hanging decorations and preparing costumes. Inside one of the classrooms, Jaden Yuki and his friends were busy brainstorming ideas for the festival's attractions.

"I've got it! We can turn the Duel Arena into a haunted Duel Mansion," Jaden said with a grin, slamming his hands on the table. "I'll dress up as a zombie duelist and jump out at people during their duels! It'll be awesome!"

Chazz Princeton rolled his eyes and crossed his arms. "That's the dumbest idea I've ever heard, Slacker. How are you gonna duel as a zombie? You can barely duel when you're awake."

"Hey!" Jaden protested. "I'm just trying to get into the Halloween spirit!"

Syrus Truesdale adjusted his glasses. "I mean, a haunted duel arena could be cool, right? Maybe we could make it less... Jaden-y?"

"Or," Chumlee chimed in, "we could just have a giant candy duel, where we duel for... candy?"

Jaden's eyes sparkled. "Now that sounds like a festival!"

Bastion Misawa, as usual, had a more measured approach. "We should focus on something that will attract the entire student body. Something with both strategy and appeal. Perhaps a Duel Monster-themed maze, where participants solve riddles to advance to different duelists waiting inside."

Alexis Rhodes nodded thoughtfully. "That's not bad, Bastion. It's got that Halloween mystery vibe and still keeps it focused on dueling."

But Jaden was still on a roll. "Okay, okay, how about this—an interactive duel experience! People duel while dodging flying skeletons and vampire bats! I'll be the ultimate Ghoul King!"

Chazz buried his face in his hands. "This is why you're still a Slifer Red. Those ideas are beyond ridiculous."

Before Jaden could respond, the door to the classroom swung open, and Blaire Flannigan stepped in. "Hey, guys, you might want to rethink your festival plans. There's something way more interesting going on."

Everyone turned to her with curious looks.

"What do you mean?" Alexis asked.

Blaire crossed her arms, her expression serious. "Lately, a mysterious duelist has been challenging students—completely out of the blue. They show up when you least expect it, challenge you to a duel, and defeat you using cards that are... spooky."

Jesse Anderson, who had been quietly listening, perked up. "Spooky? Like what? Ghosts and goblins?"

Blaire nodded. "Exactly. This duelist uses a deck full of creepy cards—ghosts, witches, vampires. People say they're unbeatable, and after they win, they vanish without a trace. No one knows who they are or what they want, but they're becoming the talk of the Academy."

Jaden's eyes lit up, excitement bubbling in his voice. "That sounds awesome! We have to find this duelist!"

Jesse punched the air. "Yeah! I've never dueled someone with a ghost deck before. Imagine the challenge!"

Chazz shook his head, exasperated. "Of course you two would get excited over some weirdo lurking in the shadows."

Blaire sighed. "It's not just some random weirdo, Chazz. This duelist is the real deal. They've beaten some of the top students here. People are scared to walk around at night."

"Scared?" Syrus squeaked. "Like... we're talking real spookiness here?"

Jaden grinned, his energy contagious. "Sounds like the perfect duel! What do you say, guys? Let's hunt down this mysterious duelist and see what they've got!"

Bastion rubbed his chin, intrigued. "A duelist with a theme like that... they must have carefully constructed their deck. I'd be interested in seeing how it plays out."

Alexis looked thoughtful but nodded. "If they're that good, it could be an amazing duel. But be careful, Jaden. There's a lot we don't know about this person."

Jaden waved off her concern. "Don't worry, Alexis. I've got this! I'll duel them, and if they're as good as everyone says, it'll be an epic match!"

Jesse clapped a hand on Jaden's shoulder. "I'm with you, partner! Let's track this spooky duelist down."

Blaire smirked. "I figured you'd say that. Rumor has it, they've been spotted near the old abandoned dorm. You know, the one that's already creepy enough without a mysterious duelist hanging around."

Chumlee shivered. "The abandoned dorm? That place gives me the creeps..."

Chazz groaned. "Of course it does. You're scared of your own shadow."

"Then it's settled!" Jaden declared. "We'll head to the abandoned dorm tonight and see if we can find this spooky duelist. And when we do—" he pointed dramatically toward the ceiling, "I'll challenge them to a duel and beat them fair and square!"

Jesse raised his fist. "Yeah, partner, let's do it!"

Chazz muttered under his breath, "This is going to be a disaster..."

Later that night, the group made their way through the dark, eerie grounds of Duel Academy toward the old abandoned dorm. The moon cast long shadows across the path, and the cool autumn wind rustled the leaves, adding an extra layer of spookiness to the atmosphere.

Jaden was leading the charge, with Jesse right behind him, both of them looking eager and excited. Behind them, Syrus, Chumlee, and Alexis trailed, their expressions a mix of nervousness and curiosity. Chazz, as usual, looked annoyed, grumbling under his breath.

"This place is even creepier at night," Syrus muttered, his voice trembling a little as they approached the dorm.

Chumlee nodded in agreement, hugging himself as though trying to shake off the chill. "I dunno, guys. Maybe we should turn back. I mean, the whole 'mysterious duelist' thing sounds like a prank, right?"

Alexis looked around warily, her instincts on high alert. "I'm not sure, Chumlee. Blaire seemed pretty serious about it. And a lot of students have been talking about this duelist. But still, this place gives me the creeps."

Chazz scoffed, pushing his way to the front. "This is ridiculous. We're out here chasing ghost stories. There's no duelist. It's just some dumb rumor."

"Then why are you here, Chazz?" Jesse teased with a smirk. "Scared of missing out?"

Chazz glared. "I'm here to prove that you slackers are wasting your time."

Jaden grinned. "C'mon, Chazz. Where's your sense of adventure?"

They reached the entrance to the dorm, the doors hanging off their hinges, creaking ominously. Jaden pushed them open, the sound echoing through the empty halls. The inside was just as unsettling as the outside—dust-covered furniture, broken windows, and cobwebs hanging from the corners. Every step they took seemed to stir up dust, and the floorboards creaked beneath their feet.

"Man, this place is totally haunted," Jesse said, his voice full of awe.

Syrus shuddered. "Can we, uh, make this quick? I don't want to be here longer than we have to."

They moved deeper into the building, peeking into rooms and checking the long, dark corridors. But as they searched, they found no sign of the mysterious duelist.

"See?" Chazz said with a smirk. "What did I tell you? No duelist. Just a bunch of scared first-years making up stories."

Jaden scratched his head, looking around. "Huh. I was really hoping we'd find something by now."

Jesse shrugged. "Maybe we just missed them. Or they're hanging around outside."

Alexis looked over her shoulder, her nerves on edge. "I don't like this. Let's not split up, okay?"

Just as they were about to head back toward the exit, something caught their attention. A faint rustling sound, almost like footsteps, echoed through the hallway behind them. They all turned at once, looking down the darkened corridor, but saw nothing.

"Did you hear that?" Syrus whispered, his voice shaky.

Chumlee's eyes widened. "Y-yeah. What was that?"

Jaden narrowed his eyes, trying to focus. "Maybe it's them! Our mysterious duelist!"

Chazz rolled his eyes. "You've been watching too many horror movies, Slacker."

But then, before anyone could respond, a pair of glowing red eyes appeared in the shadows at the far end of the hall. The eyes blinked slowly, watching them from the darkness.

The group froze, a sudden chill sweeping through the air. Syrus let out a small yelp and clutched at Chumlee's arm, while Alexis took a step back, her hand hovering near her deck.

Chumlee's voice trembled. "Okay... okay... I'm officially freaked out now."

Even Chazz, for all his bravado, had gone silent, staring at the glowing eyes with a mix of disbelief and unease.

Jaden, however, was undeterred. "No way... Is that them?"

Jesse took a step forward, his own excitement growing. "It's gotta be! Look at those eyes! That's spooky duelist material if I've ever seen it!"

The red eyes blinked again, and suddenly a figure stepped forward from the shadows. It was a tall, cloaked figure, their face hidden under a dark hood. Their presence was chilling, and they radiated an eerie energy that made the air around them feel heavy.

The group stood frozen, unsure of what to do next. The cloaked figure said nothing but raised a hand, pointing directly at Jaden.

Syrus gulped. "J-Jaden... maybe we should leave..."

But Jaden's grin widened, the thrill of the challenge overriding any fear he might have felt. "Are you the duelist everyone's been talking about? If you are, I'm Jaden Yuki, and I'm challenging you to a duel!"

Jesse, just as eager, stepped up next to Jaden. "Me too! We've been looking forward to this!"

The figure's glowing eyes remained fixed on them, and without a word, they reached into their cloak, pulling out a Duel Disk and snapping it onto their arm. The duel disk activated with an eerie, crimson light, the perfect match for the spooky atmosphere.

Chazz shook his head in disbelief. "I can't believe this is actually happening…"

The figure pointed again at Jaden, as if accepting his challenge.

Jaden activated his own Duel Disk, his grin full of excitement. "Alright! Get ready for an awesome duel!"

The figure's voice finally echoed through the hallway, low and haunting. "Prepare yourselves... for a duel unlike any you've faced before."
