Chapter 1: The return
He could feel the soft, worn-out mattress beneath him. Comforting him to sleep as it always did.
"I can relate to her, I guess."
Everything smells familiar - nostalgic even.
"Thank you for everything…"
He could hear voices somewhere, it's muffled. Something inside him urges that he gives it more attention.
"You have my words."
When he opened his eyes, the first thing he sees is his room. Not the one given to his team in the academy but the one he grew up in.
A wave of sorrow nearly drowned him before he notices his outfit, the one he was wearing when they attack his newfound home. He feels invigorated now, armed with proof that it wasn't all a dream.
A make-belief world where he has friends and could be the hero his mother wanted him to be, one where they tell him he can be more.
He brought a hand in front of him, pulling deep within like he was taught and felt his heart soar as it glows a gentle blue, she said it reminded her of the sky, free and unbound.
"Thank you." A tear fell from his eye as he remembered the memory.
Getting up from his old bed, Luka took a walk through his house again after a year.
Dustier as expected, but still the same.
It dawned on him how convenient it is that he was swept away on the day he was supposed to start his quest. Maybe it was planned all along, a higher power who felt bored that day.
The noises grows as he near the door, readying himself and opening it, Luka only has one question.
"Why is everything on fire?"
From the grass to the shops around his house and even the trees. The whole village is on fire, and to say he was horrified would be an understatement.
"HELP! Please somebody help!"
Recognising the voice, Luka looked over and saw a woman trapped under a rubble, her face marred with blood that wasn't even hers. He knew that because her husband lay next to her, slump and unresponsive to her cries.
She stopped as the stones pinning her down was lift and turn to her saviour, it was Luka, the boy she had given breads to when he was a kid. The one who disappeared one day without a trace.
"Luka! Is that you!?"
"Yeah, it's me Aunt Betty." He looked glad to see her, she would've love to talk if not for the fact her village is currently burning and her husband bleeding on the ground.
After helping them both and inquiring about the state of the village, Luka was told that it was caused by a group of angels. They destroy and burn everything around them in accordance to Ilias' order.
"That!?… A-Are you sure?"
She solemnly nodded to the teen. She has no reason to lie yet it was still hard to belief.
How could anyone just accept that one day the deity they had been worshipping to would just turn on their followers, not to mention the violent way it was done.
Had they done something to upset her? If so then…
What sort of sacrilege would justify all of this?
None, his heart told him. Not a single thing on this world could condone a genocide like this.
Like his village, a fire burn in his soul. It calls for justice, for the innocent who has died in such a horrible way and to the goddess herself.
Just then his sharpen instinct spiked, warning him of an attack.
Pulling out Horizon, the upgraded and named iron sword, his reliable silvery-white partner parried the arrow before it could hit him.
An angel stood before him, the bow hung low and a look of surprise on her face.
"How did you…?"
His body moves automatically, moving close and slashing her down. It connected, she didn't even try to dodge and was hurt badly by his attack.
"Ah!" She fell to the ground, her blood all over her chest.
Hands trembling in anger, he asked her "Why do you look so surprise! You massacre an entire village and you expect them not to fight back!?"
The yelling seems to snap her out of her confusion.
"B-Blood! Why am I bleeding!? A human like you shouldn't be able to hurt me!"
Luka wonder if she really is that egotistical or if there was a rule he didn't know about, non of that mattered anyway, as he put his sword to her neck.
"Tell me why did this happened. Everyone here is innocent, why did you kill them!"
"It was an order from my Goddess, there's no need for a reason."
She answered meekly, not expecting her life to be in danger.
"Ilias really wanted all of this to happened?" The hero looked so lost and hurt that even the angel felt a slight bit of shame, it went ignored as she continued.
"Of course, you humans blatantly went against her words!"
She went off from there, talking about how humans were ungrateful and monsters should be eradicated, at that point however, Luka wasn't even listening anymore.
So it's true… his Goddess did all of this, he finally came to accept it. The betrayal cut deep into him, years of faith and diligent now only left him feeling empty.
The angel stopped talking as he started glowing, the colour so bright that it blinded her.
When she opened her eyes, her jaw went slack at what she saw.
Standing there with his sword drawn, Luka now has a Halo made of light, blue wings on his back and an aura of power around him that spark with ferocity.
"I will not allow this to go any longer."His voice now filled with authority was heard throughout the village.
As all the angel nearby began to took notice of him, he folded his wings before letting them out again, this time it causes a huge gale to spread around him.
Woosh!
It took out all the fire and now even the villagers had stopped running and observe the scene.
"I will give all of you a choice, leave now and never came back or suffered my wrath."
She watches as her sisters refused to flee and charge at him.
Then she saw the hero channel his sword with magic as it glows blue.
On that day, the villagers witness the second coming of the Angel Slayer.
===0===
He remembered back then, how scared he was.
"What was that? I've never heard of anything like this…" the teen said as he saw the beowolf disintegrates into dust.
And then he met her, there was rose petals everywhere and the second he saw her, his fears melt away.
"I found you! We made eye contact, so that means we're partners now!" Said the cute redhead.
How happy she was, as he accepted her with open arms.
"No way! we're both fifteen?!" She smiled and despite his confusion, he did too.
How grateful he still is, when she accepted him.
"Don't worry Luka, I won't let anything bad happened to my partner!"
In a way, they balance each other out.
"Well… at least we didn't get a zero?" She said sheepishly as they both failed the test.
Pushing one another forward until they peaked.
"We won! Luka we did it!" hugging him as she celebrated, she never noticed how red he was.
As the ex-Huntsman stood there, unmoving bodies of angels all around him, he cherish the last memory he made with her.
Holding on to it as close as he can to chase away the dark thoughts.
...
...
...
"Coffee?"
She turned to her partner, "With extra sugar?"
"Obviously." He grins as she takes it.
It was lightly raining that morning, everyone else is either still sleeping or busy with something. He saw her sitting on the sofa alone and made them some coffee.
"How is she?" He heard her asked next to him.
"Just a few chips here and there, I already fix most of it." Horizon is a good weapon, she would have hated to see it in bad condition.
"That's good, I'm glad I thought you how to maintain her by yourself."
"Sorry about that, I know I not good with gadgets."
She leans her head on his shoulder, "It's fine, I had fun talking about those stuff with you."
"…Thank you." He said – barely loud enough for her to hear.
Putting his cup down, he leaned back at her. They stay like that until the rain stops.
…
"You never tell me about that," she said suddenly.
"Hmm?" he follows her silver eyes and it landed on his mother's ring, the one he kept with him.
"That, your ring."
He holds up his right hand, "It's my mother's, she pasted away back when I was a kid."
As he stared at it, she places her hand on his. "It's pretty."
"It is," he decides to bite the bullet, "maybe I'll give it to you one day."
…
Luka was halfway ready to leaved the kingdom and never show his face again before he heard it, it sounds like, a tea kettle?
Turning his head slowly, he saw one embarrassed and blushing Huntress.
"D-don't you think it's t-too early f-for that…?" She squeaked out.
His heart skipped a beat, the sight was simply too adorable for any man to handle.
"O-oh, is it? Then… I'll hold on to it."
He got up from the sofa and was about to walked away but then she called out to him.
"P-please do!" she fiddles with her combat skirt, "When that day come… I'll say-"
The voice of someone behind him shook him out of the memories.
"That was amazing!" It's like hearing a child laughing in a funeral, the voice has a certain unhinged quality to it.
He could hear slow clapping from the ruined gate of the city, a blond girl stood there wearing a blue dress, she has a teddy bear under her left arm as she claps.
"Good show! Jolly good show~" She laugh as he worryingly stared at her, the sound is disturbing.
"Hey… what are you doing here?" he asked her, it was obvious that something is wrong.
"Oh, don't mind me, I'm just happy to see his legacy lives on through you."
Right… as if she couldn't get even more confusing.
Before he could inquire more about her, another person decided to show up.
"I wouldn't let my guard down around her if I was you."
From the forest next to his village, a mature looking woman came out and walks confidently towards them, which is impressive since there's dead body everywhere.
What is it with blond-hair woman having a dramatic entrance? Is this gonna be a thing now?
"Do I know you?" He asked the woman since she kind of looks familiar to him.
Wearing a green dress that looks unfit to travel, the woman stare at him with an old, jaded blue wisdom that is her eyes, the feeling of familiarity grew as she got closer.
Now standing in front of him, she sighed and said, "No, because I didn't want to involved you back then." She cupped her hand on his left side of his face, "I'm sorry Luka." And he remembered his mother.
His body involuntarily tremble as he asked her, "Are you family?"
She smiled a thin yet sincere smile, "I am."
"Aww~ What about me?" A voice interrupted the unexpected family meeting.
===0===
To say that Luka was happy to find he had an aunt this whole time was an understatement, she doesn't know why he was so exited but she didn't stop him.
She took her nephew to her small village and introduced him to her followers.
Then she told him that she saved most of the villagers living his village before the massacre, that made him even more happy, oh boy…
As Luka checked up on them to see if they were okay, she is now inside her house with her current guess, the young-looking woman sitting in front of her.
She put her tea down before saying "I have to say, despite knowing who the parent is, I really didn't expect him to be so similar to them."
"Life has a funny way of reminding us of our mistakes."
The girl laughed, "Oh Micaela~ I never knew you were a comedian!"
Smirking to herself for managing to get under the monster's skin, she addresses the monster lord in the room, "Are the plan ready?"
"As ready as they'll ever be, dear friend~" Her smile could make grown men wet themselves.
It was not the first time she had to remind herself that it was for the greeter good. No matter how much she wanted to throw this demented woman into space, they had to work together.
Luka knocks on the door, one of her followers must have informed him to see her and she let him in. His mood has considerably recover after confirming that most of the villagers has been evacuated and catching up with them all.
===0===
It was a lot to take in, they seem to understand and allow him a moment to process it all.
"So… let me run back on everything you guys just told me, just so we're clear on this." Aunt Micaela patiently nodded at him while the other girl, she said her name was Black Alice, smile amusedly at him.
He took a deep breath, "So about a year ago, you knew something bad was going to happened, so you ended up devising a plan to counter this big problem. The plan being to send me to another world, so that I could be safe and grew stronger without outside interference and the problem is - you founded out later - Goddess Ilias trying to destroyed the world?"
She hasn't said anything or tried to correct him so far, so Luka continued, "After you and Black Alice send me to remnant, you have been sending your followers to every continent to act as your eyes and ears, eventually finding out about Ilias' plan, you had Black Alice as the mole working for her to uncover more about it. Then, you summon me back to this world to help you defeat Ilias before she could enact her plan and so that I could rally the human and Monster kind together against her."
She looked displeased at something before answering, "Most of that summary is correct, though the timing of you return wasn't supposed to be like this." She told him in slight concern.
"Wait, what do you mean?"
"She's talking about the unwelcome third party of this plan between us." Black Alice cut in before his aunt could say anything.
"Another person interfered, who is it?" He asked them both.
Micaela closed her eyes before answering, "Who else? The God of which world I put you in without permission of course."
"Huh?" That sounded very important.
Black Alice sips her tea down before answering him, "Now imagine a kingdom full of houses," she begins, one of her hand gesturing about, "Every single one of those houses could be consider a world, and the home owner would be the God of those worlds, do you understand?" Her smile promises horrible things if he didn't so he swiftly nodded.
"Good! Now what's bad about us putting you in another world is that we basically put a pet in someone else's house without their permission, it should be considered a very lucky thing that you're still alive."
"I'm not a-" presented with madness painted red that is her eyes again he kept his mouth shut and waited for her to continue.
Impressed with his survival instinct, she finished, "Thankfully however, the home owner of the house we choose to put you in is a merciful one, unlike his brother!" She cheerfully informed him, "After a bit of technical problems, we eventually manage to get you back on this world and now it's time for you to deck Ilias in the face! Isn't that wonderful?"
…
Turning to his aunt to confirm the insanity he just heard, Luka was half terrified that she didn't correct Black Alice and amazed at her ability to explained the multiverse theory with such bizarre fashion.
"Luka, before you came back, did you remembered anything unusual at that time, maybe it could be subtle like a tune in the background you've never hear before or obvious like weird animals talking with you?"
He tries to find anything like she described in his memories, then he remembered.
Saving his best friend.
Fighting in the sky until he ran out of aura.
Falling through the clouds after his wings disappeared.
A bright golden beam of light enveloped him.
"Yeah, I think I remember something like that." He told them.
His aunt opened her eyes again, "That must be them then, you were supposed to be brought back earlier than that but something interfered with our spell." She looked amused for a second, "somehow you manage to make a Deity from another world likes you more than the one in yours."
Similarly, Black Alice couldn't help but let out her mirth by chuckling to herself.
As for Luka, knowing that another God actually like him enough to safely returned him to his world felt surreal and befuddling.
Micaela continues to filled him in with the counter plan and soon he understood his parts in it.
===0===
'How did the headmaster do this again?'
The counter plan was going great, all things considered.
Luka, Micaela and her followers goes around the world helping as many as possible, she had already set up a teleporting way points all over just in case she needed it.
Honestly, Luka wasn't expecting to save the world a second time in just two days. He remembered the looks of awed and admiration aimed at their group as they fought back the angels, some were even cheering for them, he couldn't help but feel proud of how far he's come.
Gathering everyone at the place his aunt has chosen, a large open field untouched by Ilias and protected by concealment magic from her elf followers.
Now all Luka has to do, was give them the motivational speech needed for everyone to work together as a unit and wage war against the evil Goddess.
The problem? Luka has no idea how to give a speech. Not to mention that this will probably be the most important part of the whole operation, they were all counting on him to rally everyone up so that they could win.
Several thousand pair of eyes stared at him with expectation.
'Yeah, no pressure or anything, thanks guys…'
The script was crushed in his grip as he decided to just wing it, improvisation has always been one of his strong points. Just like that one time he had to fight the wyvern without his iron sword after unlocking his semblance.
"I'll keep this brief, we don't have much time for a grand speech." His voice sound unsure at first, but gradually steel itself. "Not to mention I have never gave any of them before so…" A little joke wouldn't hurt, especially when everyone is so tense around each other.
He could see some thought the same thing, the group from the human side became less jumpy, the monster side less hostile, the fact that even in war against a higher power, the line still exists between them, it broke his heart.
A small hope in his chest told him that it can get better, he'll help make it better, one step at a time, the first one start with winning this war.
By the end of the meeting, he could see everyone was ready for the counter attack they had plan. As far as speeches goes, Luka thinks he didn't really do too bad.
When he saw Aunt Micaela gently smile at him in approval, he truly felt proud of himself.
===0===
"I can't believe I'm fighting side by side with a human."
"And what's wrong with that?"
She narrowed her eyes, the slitted yellow mistrust filled with resentment aimed at him.
The light from Heaven's entrance illuminating her features, scally purple skin, snow white hair reaching her back, her outfit may as well be a swimsuit with how revealing it is and she scoffed when he averted his eyes away the first time they met.
"The second I turn my back on you, how do I know you aren't going to betrayed me?"
He parried the attack send by her doppelganger, the twisted version of the monster lord created by Ilias to counter her.
"That won't be easy, you're very strong Alice." He turns his back to her, "I doubt anyone could ever sneak up on you."
"…"
"But how about this? I promised that as long as you don't attack me, I won't ever harm you."
She huffed in anger, evidently annoyed by his simple words.
"We'll see about that." She hisses out.
===0===
"Well if it isn't the hero, come to saves the world again~?"
The current monster lord put her hand in front of him in warning, "That's Black Alice, don't let your guard down human."
"My oh my~ What did I ever do to deserve such treatment?" Black Alice fake crying behind her teddy bear.
"You dare… after helping that damn Goddess sealed me!" Bright red fire burst from her hands, ready for her to command them.
He immediately got between the two, hands held up in peace.
"Hey hold on, She's with us!"
"I am~?"
"Not helping!"
It was basically like trying to get oil and water together, they are just too incompatible as a team that he had to separated them any chance he got.
The more they progresses through heaven, the stronger the angels. This fact doesn't seem to stop the two from arguing however.
"That one was mine, get your own targets!"
"It's not my fault they all look so delicious~"
"Girls! Now is not the time for this!"
It was times like this where Luka misses his old team back in remnant.
===0===
The good news is that when you have two monster lords in your party, every fight became a walk in the park. Not even Eden could survive being assaulted by the magic those two could produce.
Finding himself as the assist of the team, Luka got hit with a sense of nostalgia of his early beacon semester, not being able to keep up with most people there, he sat back and learned as much as he can. His team eventually encourage him to fight in the front when he got good enough.
From being the shield of the team, he ended up being a sword that can cut anything for them.
When Ilias was about to slice Alice in half Luka countered with a morning star at point blank, the attack rattled the Goddess and Black Alice is akin to a shark that smells blood in the water.
If Black Alice ever needed time to recover her magic Luka would be her fortress of defence while the current monster lord bombard Ilias with her cruelty.
Intimately familiar with the chaotic nature of fighting with a team, Ilias never manages to overwhelm him, the hero is a glue that kept the temporary party together.
Eventually, it was time to put the rabid Goddess out of her misery.
"Should we ravish her? If we are, I called dibs on her wings~"
"It's been a while since I last crushed someone to oblivion."
"No."
The new-found authority in his voice stunted the two of them.
"We are neither torturing her nor are we making her final moment hell."
[Flash kill]
The attack took her life as fast as it could, setting her free of the pain just a moment later.
Luka could see a look of surprised gratitude on her face before she falls to the ground. Between the two monster lords, she was glad he was the one who ended her life.
He stood there as heaven trembles, not being able to sustain itself now that Ilias has died.
A solemn look of sadness on his face as another fall by his hands.
Luka was at least glad, he never got used to killing, that means he's not too far gone yet.
When they have no other options, he became the killer so none of his friends had to.
===0===
It's been a year since he returned to his world, with them winning the war and stopping Ilias' propaganda of discrimination, they begin to slowly build the world into a better place.
In order for people to no longer be afraid of monster and for them to respect human boundaries, they would need an equalizer. Something that balance the scale, making sure everyone can be on the same level.
That thing being him, Luka would find great human warriors and capable people throughout his world and awakened their soul, giving them the gift of aura and the ability to use semblance.
Not only that, he would also propose an idea that was challenged by many, an institution where they would teach the new generations of both human and monster to learn about the history and culture of each others. The hero countered every single one of them with an intimidating amount of commitment.
If he wasn't already after the war, his determination soon earned him the respect of many, both monster and human alike that wanted a better future for their children.
A majority of the angels resent him for what he did, some event refuses to listen to reasons and attack him on sight.
They unsurprisingly loss the fight everytime and Luka spared all of them. When asked why by his friends, the hero would always remind them that the war is over.
He has done everything he could for them, now all that's left is for them to choose. Do they want to continue living in the past, holding on to their grudges or they could let go and move forward.
Now standing in front of the window inside his room in the monster lord castle, he wondered what to spend his evening with, spar with Grandberia? Too intense, have tea with Tamamo? After their done, she might try to charmed him like last time, make food with Erubetie in the kitchen? Too messy, how about Elma-
Stopping himself from that train of thought, he decided to just take a walk, a nice, relaxing and simple walk.
The maids and few human workers there salute or bow to him in respect, he already told them that they shouldn't have to but they still did.
After a bit of walking, he eventually found the garden. Not a lot of people came here at this hour and he could appreciate the peaceful atmosphere.
Alice was there, eating in the garden. She looks lost in her head, barely noticing him approaching her.
"Nothing to do?" She asked.
"Well, I was gonna take it easy today, every other option doesn't really fit that."
She appraised him, her eyes no longer holding baggage like before, clearer yellow met his sky blue for a moment. She closed them, "Go ahead…" she said, her face reddening.
Confused by this, Luka went to ask, "What's wrong?" He put his hand on her shoulder as a way to reassure and remind her of his promise.
She huffed at that before addressing him, "What's wrong is that I'm falling in love with a two timer like you."
"Excuse me…?"
"That," she pointed at his body, "her scent, I can smell her all over you. It's clear you already have a mate, one for life if I'm guessing right…" she finishes off with melancholy.
…
Both of them stay in the garden until the sun set, the beautiful view shared between them is a stark contrast to how they both feel.
'Is that why most of them looked at me with frustration? They could smell her on me…'
"How long have you – I mean, can I ask that?" he fumble his words.
She laughs, he haven't hear that in while, "Honestly? I guess back when I saw you fought so hard for the academy to be made. It gave me hope that I was wrong about you, that you really do want a better world for everyone." Her smile turned bitter.
"If only I had met you sooner, maybe then…"
"Alice… I wasn't trying to-"
"I know."
She got up abruptly, startling him and slither away.
He wanted to stop her, to help her.
How can he do that if he doesn't even know what to say?
"I'm glad," she said to him before leaving, "that I got to meet you, that you showed me human and monster could co-exist together." Her voice grew weaker as she goes, "it's an honour to have you as a friend, maybe in another life, we could have been more…"
===0===
Micaela found him lying around the flowers outside her house.
It's the middle of the night and everyone else is asleep.
She sighed, "Luka."
"Am I a bad person?" He asked, not even looking at her.
"You are the only person I've ever meet who can say they helped saved the world twice, you tell me."
He sat up, "W-well, yeah but I hurt her, she looked so sad and I just sat there like an idiot because I don't even know what to do and-"
He was so worked up about all this that he didn't even realize when she sat next to him.
Patting his back, she stopped his spiral with one word, "Breath."
When he did so, she waited until he regained his bearings."This is about the monster lord isn't it." That seem to shocked him.
"Aunt Micaela, how did you know?"
"Everyone knows Luka…" she patiently told her nephew.
When he was drowning in paperwork trying to keep project Andromeda going, Alice came in by herself to offered her help. After Luka help invent the camera, everyone wanted to be the first to take a picture with him, Alice held that title however, as soon as Luka taught her how to use it, she immediately took the first ever selfie with the hero.
During his aura granting adventure across the world begin it was Alice who would 'coincidentally' meet up with him the most, they would even have meals together wherever they go. When spring came and Luka got himself sick by overworking, Alice took over the project until he got better.
The day Andromeda was ready to start accepting students they had all wanted to surprised the hero, a small party was held by all of his close friends, the look of joy on his face when he realized what's happening was framed on top of the drawer in her room. There's also another picture she took, a shot of everyone standing behind Luka and Alice holding the Andromeda Academy acceptance paper in their hands, they wanted to make it looks as if Luka himself is inviting them personally.
The hero had other idea however, saying only him being in front wouldn't sent the message he wanted to, so he then asked Alice to stand next to him, holding the paper together. Not one of them had ever seen the monster lord so pleased, as if she had won the biggest prize in her life.
The picture became a priceless piece of history and was held proudly in the academy's main hall – golden frame and all. She have a smaller one to in her living room, a simple frame was enough for her.
"Then, what should I do?" he asked her the loaded question.
She smiles the same smile she reserved for her family, "You do what you believe is right, like you always do."
"…"
The hero who saved two worlds got up and asked her, "Can you send me back?"
"Of course. I've already got good enough to do it without Black Alice's help."
His face took a more determined expression unlike before, "Then, I know what I have to do!"
END OF CHAPTER
Author's note: Because I know there's a bunch of stuff that didn't make any sense, here's the answer to some of them.
Q – How come Luka can use his angel powers without any consequence?
A – It's his aura that allows him to do that, aura is basically your soul shielding your body from the outside, Luka's soul isfilledwith light magic. His body didn't transform, it's like he's wearing a suit of armour.
Q – Wouldn't the ring stop him from using his powers?
A – it's a loophole, the ring sealed the power inside of him, aura allows him to use his poweroutsideof his body. Now Luka can use it and still has the ring stopping any corrosion on his body.
Q – Why did Luka started thinking of Ruby after murdering the angels?
A – it's not a random thing, remembering Ruby is basically how he coped with hard times.
Q – How did Micaela manage to convince Black Alice to work together?
A –
Micaela: Want to help me ruined Ilias' plan by causing chaos on the inside?
Black Alice: You had me at chaos, I'm in.
Q – Luka would never kill anyone it went against his character.
A – In Remnant, Luka had to chose between the life of his friends or his enemy, he picked the former.
Q – Shouldn't his aura be purple?
A – I personally think that the colour blue fits him more, Luka is a kind soul, he wanted people to be able to achieve whatever they want as long as it doesn't hurt anyone, he's like the sky – free.
Q – They manage to build a big academy in just a year?
A – They have magic, monster girls trying to make a living and a bunch of determined people who wanted to make a better future.
Q – Luka knows how to unlocked aura?
A – It's a precious memory to him, why wouldn't he remember it?
If there's some questions left, It'll probably be answered next chapter.
