After Mewtwo had escaped from the laboratory on New Island and taken in by Giovanni,

Giovanni hired a competitive chess player to challenge him to a game. Since he was a psychic,

it was a perfect opportunity for Team Rocket to test his intellect.

"Do you know the rules?" Asked the chess player.

Giovanni spoke, "I highly doubt it, he is only four days old."

But Mewtwo, from the chess player's mind, proceeded to explain the rules of chess in great

detail. Both Giovanni and the chess player were Stunned. The game began and with tight

competition, in the end, Mewtwo left the chess player in a checkmate. The chess player shook

Giovanni's hand, collected his money and went on his way. Mewtwo picked up one of the pawns

and curiously analyzed it. Giovanni put his hand on Mewtwos'

shoulder.

"It seems I have underestimated you. I will not make that mistake again." He proudly

declared.

"Is this what I am for you? A pawn?" Mewtwo asked.

"You are not a pawn, Mewtwo." Giovanni answered. "You are my rook."

Mewtwo thought back to that day, he also thought back to when he almost took a friend's life

after losing control. He stayed on that same mountain for what seemed like hours, but he

couldn't even muster the energy to count. A flygon descended onto the mountain, one of the red

domes over their eyes was missing and a white bandage was wrapped in its place. Their voice

was that of a city dweller.

"Hey, boss, you doin' alright?" She asked.

"Yes Lynnix, I'm fine." He answered.

"Looks like you're bleeding. I saw what went down with that scizor." Lynnix growled and

grinded her teeth. "When I find that son of a bitch, i'll-"

"Did you make any rescues?" Mewtwo asked abruptly.

"I did." She hunched forward to reveal a pile of pokemon cubs of all different species mounted

on her back. Bruises and burns were on various parts of their bodies. "Got 'em from traffickers

working for Team Rocket."

"Take them back to the Island." Said Mewtwo.

"There is something here I need to see."

"Are you going back to that island again? What do you think you're gonna find there?"

"I don't know, but it gives me closure." He answered.

Lynnix prepared to fly back to the Island, but she turned around to ask him something.

"Are you addicted to your own sha-?" But Mewtwo was gone in a blank of an eye. She sighed

and flew off.

He landed on New Island to find the old lab rebuilt into a museum and everything that was

present on the island put on display. Mewtwo saw his old mask locked behind glass, the ancient

carving of mew reconstructed from its broken pieces and a wall of televisions that broadcasted

coverage of the hurricane he conjured. In this place he felt comfort, nostalgia but also an

overwhelming sense of regret, it had him do nothing but bow his head in shame.

Suddenly, he heard various loud noises and hastily made himself invisible. They were Team

Rocket thugs breaking in and stealing the mask from its glass cage. He kept his movements

slow as they walked directly beside him as if they were well acquainted.

"Does anybody know why the boss wants… whatever this is?"

"Doesn't really matter, anything that comes out of a museum is pretty fuckin' valuable."

"Fair enough. Still confused why he would make us steal from a museum he owns a stake in."

One of the thugs grabbed the mask out of the display case and threw it into the other thugs

hands.

"Just take your money and stop asking questions."

Mewtwo continued to keep his movements as slow as possible. He wanted to simply go back

to the other island, but curiosity tempted him to stay and listen. Suddenly, what seemed to be a

tech expert with a tablet tripped over his tail and the noise echoed across the building, in turn

one of the goons covered his mouth and aimed a silenced pistol at his head, scanning the area.

"Watch where you're going, you almost had us compromised!" Said the thug, concealing the

pistol and releasing the tech expert.

"Clumsy bastard. You'd trip over a painted line!" One said angrily.

"He's good at getting into places, but we'd be lucky to get out." Another said.

The tech expert adjusted his glasses and sighed deeply in relief then followed them all back to

their large helicopter while Mewtwo was just behind.

Lynnix made it to the Island and was given a warm welcome by the Pokémon. This is Cero

Island, a safe haven where pokemon are rescued and given a chance to thrive, there is more

than one island that accomplishes this, but this one is the original.

"When's Mewtwo coming back?" Asked a pokemon.

"I don't know, but we, The Retrievers, will do the best we can to manage order on the island."

Lynnix assured.

As the pokemon on the island became impatient, Lynnix decided to take it upon herself to go

find him. Her sharp senses could pick up Mewtwo easily.

Back at New Island, the helicopter began to fly off and Mewtwo followed it. After a long

journey, it landed at Team Rocket headquarters, a large building inside the crevice of two

mountains. Unpleasant memories flooded his brain upon seeing the large glowing 'R' logo at the

top, but he followed the group inside nonetheless. Inside of the large building the group of thugs

typed a code into an elevator and started to ascend, but not before Mewtwo could step in by the

time the door closed. The elevator was quite spacious so he was able to stay on one side where

there was little contact.

The elevator door opened and mewtwo followed as the thugs walked into a large office where

Giovanni sat behind a desk while his persian was sleeping nearby. One of the thugs set it on his

desk, proudly presenting it.

"Order up!" They said,

"You have done well, dismissed."

He said.

"When do we get paid?"

"I will wire you the money. Dis-missed!" He said, annoyed.

They all walked out except Mewtwo, who eagerly watched and listened for him to say or do

something. Giovanni pulled out a black pokeball branded with the 'R' logo. It was rusty, some of

the paint was scratched off and it was coated with dust. Giovanni placed the pokeball on his

specialized computer and projected the inside, where a pokemon was lying on the ground

seemingly weak. It was an exact copy of Mewtwo, except his tail was green. Giovanni spoke as

if it could hear him from inside despite knowing otherwise.

"My apologies for leaving you like this. We will make you better, I promise." He said.

Mewtwo then revealed himself and pushed Giovanni into the window behind him, cracking it.

Mewtwo grabbed the pokeball from the desk and busted through the roof to escape but a purple

disembodied hand grabbed his tail and slammed him back into the building and he crashed into

another room. A bunch of goons shot at Mewtwo as he rose from the rubble, which barely

affected him. He spotted the pokeball rolling away, he forced his way out of the rubble to grab it,

but when he got close he was struck by claws emitting dark energy. It was a meowscarada, they

hissed and spoke.

"This pokeball is property of Team Rocket. You will pay for this thievery!" Said the

neowscarada.

"This has nothing to do with you. Do not risk your life for pointless property." Mewtwo sternly

said.

Suddenly, the same purple hands that threw off his escape grabbed his neck from the other

side of the rooms walls and pinned him to it then a haunter fazed from the other side, revealing

themselves to be a haunter who donned a fedora on his head. The meowscarada walked up to

him.

"If you're going to steal from my people, then this has everything to do with me!" She then

continuously struck him, eventually forming marks.

As he squirmed to free himself from the haunters grasp, clawing at his neck and attempting to

grab his ghostly hands, the haunter then spoke, his voice was deep and somewhat old-timey.

"'The most powerful pokemon' eh?!" The haunter laughed.

Mewtwo grew frustrated and started to condense his power and sent off a wave of energy

that blew both of them away. In no time he was ready to fight again more than ever, his eyes

glowed purple, he had shadow balls at the ready and he emitted psychic energy. He threw a

shadow ball that hit the meowscarada and blew her back, incapacitating her, the haunter tried to

grab Mewtwo, but he teleported behind, blew a large opening in the nearest wall leading outside

and made a significant distance. The haunter laughed some more.

"So, you wanna go long range, do ya?" A machine gun magically appeared above his hands

and he grabbed it. "Let's go long range!"

The haunter fired the machine gun, Mewtwo engaged a field that successfully stopped every

bullet and no matter what angle the haunter tried to shoot from, Mewtwo protected himself from

the onslaught of ghostly projectiles. The haunter, with his limitless ammo, eventually became

frustrated and stopped. He growled.

"Why don't you drop that fancy shield of yours and die already!?" He yelled.

As the haunter looked closer, he found that his bullets were not deflected, but rather stayed

elevated into the air. Mewtwo redirected the bullets toward him and pushed them all into his

face. He fell back into the building, he survived but was badly injured and forced to flee.

"Damn things don't work like they used to!" He said angrily.

Mewtwo ascended back toward the partially damaged building.

"Give me that pokeball." Mewtwo powered himself up even more.

"If it's that important to you, please, take it." Said the meowscarada, tensing her stance.

Mewtwo was visibly angry and slowly, but menacingly walked toward her. The meowscarada

backed away and attempted a defensive strike with her claws but Mewtwo grabbed her arm and

threw her into the wall behind her.

"I'm not asking again." Said Mewtwo.

The moewscarada laughed as she struggled to stand up and the pokeball rolled far away

from her.

"I know it looks like you have the upper hand here, but trust me, this won't last long."

Suddenly, large white two-nailed claws emerged from the floors. It was a golisopod, he struck

at mewtwo sending him flying but he balanced himself in the air. The golisopod guarded the

pokeball.

"Do not kill him, Rachnar." Said the meowscarada.

He had a deep voice and it was broken by an accent.

"He is causing much issue."

"He is an important asset, Giovanni requested he remain alive." The meowscarada turned to

Mewtwo, who leered at her.

"Thank you for coming here by the way, you saved us a lot of time!" She chuckled.

Mewtwo was angered, he charged toward the meowscarada but she threw a smoke bomb to

the ground and vanished. The smoke enveloped the whole room, Mewtwo was disoriented. The

golisopod emerged from the smoke and began striking him. Walls and floors were broken as

Mewtwo was dodging all he could until he was struck to an edge of the building and the

golisopod leaped to finish him while he was down. He jumped high considering his size, his

large claws swung above his head and Mewtwo braced himself. Suddenly, a red, skinny figure

appeared in front of him blocking the golisopods attack with its bulbous claws, it was Narvus. He

was holding back the golisopod and then pushed him away. Both Mewtwo and Narvus flew from

the building, but Mewtwo stopped before he went any further.

"You need to get out of here!" Narvus pleaded.

"I can't, there is something here I need." Mewtwo said.

Suddenly, another familiar voice spoke.

"Listen to him Mewtwo, don't be as stubborn as always!" Said lynnix, zooming past and

dealing with Team Rocket goons who fired guns from the roof of the building.

"I'm not leaving it, I'm not leaving him!" Mewtwo sternly said.

"Who and what are you talking about? What could possibly be so important that you would

put yourself in more danger!?" Asked Narvus.

Mewtwo pushed him away and began to fly back to the building but just then Lynnix bashed

him on the head while in flight and grabbed him before he fell to the ground. Both Lynnix and

Narvus fled.

"Where are we going?" Asked Narvus.

"Far away from here." Replied Lynnix.

"Is Mewtwo okay?"

"He's fine, he told me to do that to him if he ever loses control." Assured Lynnix.

"He was always afraid of himself. Are you sure that 'thing' he needed wasn't important?"

"Even if it was, he is outnumbered and out classed, he'd be lucky to even touch it."

They both disappeared to the horizon, the meowscarada was staring towards it, disappointed

and ashamed. She heard the deep broken accent speak to her just behind.

"Eusebeia, pokeball is safe."

It was the golisopod and the haunter. The haunter was bleeding light blue blood as he

pressed onto his wounds.

"Rachnar, Dillinger, Giovanni will be disappointed in us." Declared Eusabeia.

"I think I need a hospital, these wounds are doin' me in good." Said dillinger.

"Only a pokemon center can treat the wounds you have." Said Eusabeia.

"I don't need your 'pokemon center'. I aint nothin' like you animals!"

"You died and became this, do you want to die again? You know where you'll go once you

do."

Dillinger growled and cracked his fingers. He floated away. Eusebeia went to grab the

pokeball and stared back at the horizon, Rachnar joined her. He used his claws to balance his

towering figure that rivaled her own. Rachnar looked at her.

"You are fine, yes?" Asked Rachnar.

"We have a mission to finish, that is, if Giovanni will allow us to. Either way, worrying about

me will accomplish nothing." Eusabeia said bluntly.

Rachnar put his head down and crawled away.
