NOTE: Some of the information here (especially the food part) was inspired a little bit by the old versions of Don't Starve. Although I didn't play it directly, I watched videos about the old versions. In one of them, it was mentioned that we could also plant meat on farms in one of the old versions. Or the foods weren't spoling. So maybe a few parts may not exactly fit Don't Starve right now.
Winter is coming. I can feel it in the air—the sharp bite in the wind, the shortening days, the way the animals have started to act differently. Everything in this world seems to shift in preparation for the cold. And so have I.
Today was productive. Almost everything is ready. I've built enough drying racks to preserve the meat from the Koalefant, and the Winter Hat is finally complete. I even managed to scrounge up enough teeth for a few Hound Traps to deal with the hounds when they inevitably come. My Breezy Vest will do for now, though I suspect I'll need something warmer soon. Since as I experienced before Winter is far more colder than I can stand. But there's one problem I can't seem to solve: spoiling food. Despite all my efforts, the food doesn't last. No matter how much I hunt, harvest, or dry, time works against me. It rots before my eyes, turning into foul mush that I can't eat. I've tried everything—drying it, storing it in chests, even burying some meat in the cool ground near my base. But nothing slows the rot. Was it spoiling like this before? Wait... It wasn't spoiling before... Was it my imagination? Weird...
This land is cruel in that way. It gives just enough to keep me alive, but never more than that. There's always some new obstacle, some twist of nature that keeps me on the edge of starvation. I've been eating more and more of my supplies, afraid they'll spoil if I don't. The pressure is relentless. The farms have helped, of course. I've been able to grow some basic vegetables, but even they have their limits. Without better preservation methods, it feels like I'm trapped in an endless cycle of gathering, hoarding, and watching it all slip away. Back home, food spoilage was just a minor inconvenience. I could throw out a moldy sandwich and grab another from the store. Here? Spoiled food is the difference between life and death.
A way to slow the decay of food or a machine. I need something like that. Maybe I can built something with rocks and gold like Science Machine or Alchemy Machine. There are a lot of blueprints that I can't understand for now. Maybe I can find something to slow down the rotting process. I've tried using the Alchemy Machine to experiment with different materials, but I still haven't unlocked the secret. Maybe tomorrow I'll spend more time tinkering, gathering parts, and scouring the land for clues. There has to be a way to preserve what I've worked so hard to collect.
The fire crackles behind me now as I write, the warmth comforting against the chill outside. Despite my frustrations, there's a small sense of accomplishment. I've survived longer than I ever thought I could this time. And even though winter looms ahead, I'm as ready as I'll ever be. Well... At least yarer than last time...
But this food problem? It has to be solved. I won't let it be my downfall. Not after coming this far.
