Left alone with the red haired human, Mr. Bump made himself comfortable in one of the chairs. The kid was still sound asleep. What should he do now? The sun was just rising and sunlight steamed in through the window.
Mr. Bump was anxious and scared. What did this guy want? Why won't he leave Dillydale and everyone here in peace?
He was so lost in his thoughts that he jumped when he heard something but it was just the human sitting up. They yawned and looked over at Mr. Bump, confusion and worry on their face.
"What's happening?" they asked. "And where's Mike?" they added before the Mr. Man could reply.
"He's gathering the town and going to talk to them about how to stop this guy," Mr. Bump told them.
They looked around anxiously. "What am I supposed to do?" they finally asked.
Mr. Bump shrugged. "Mike said stay here and don't leave. And he said don't let anyone in because they might be that guy."
The kid nodded and settled themselves on the couch. Mr. Bump watched them curiously. He knew the human had male as well as female personalities. Who was this? Didn't Mike call them Jerry? He was hugging the toy lemur like his life depended on it.
The two of them were silent for a long time. Mr. Bump wasn't sure what to say. He felt awkward around the kid, acutely aware that Dillydale and everyone here was in danger because of this human, all because the other human wanted them and planned to use them for his own evil plans.
I wish none of this was happening, the accident-prone Mr. Man thought ruefully.
A while passed by before there was a loud crash outside. It didn't sound like a knock. It sounded like something was pushed from a great height and landed on the ground.
Jerry nearly jumped out of his skin, and Mr. Bump felt like he might have had a heart attack. They looked at each other. Then Mr. Bump asked," Should we go see what that was?"
Jerry shook his head and tried to hide behind the stuffed lemur but obviously it wasn't very effective. Mr. Bump sighed. He'll have to go see what that was by himself.
He got up and made his way to the door, glancing over his shoulder at the kid on the couch but they had their eyes closed and were still trying to hide behind the toy. Shaking his head, suddenly determined, Mr. Bump stepped forward and opened the door.
At first he didn't see anything, but then he moved around the house and was shocked to see part of the telescope laying on the ground. It looked like it was cut clean in half, the rest of it still sticking out of the house, undamaged. He blinked and looked around. Who did this?
Suddenly very nervous about being outside with that evil human around– knowing he did this– he walked back inside the observatory.
"That guy must have–"
He stopped dead and looked around. The kid was gone! Frantically he searched the whole house but there was no sign of the red haired human. But the toy lemur was still on the couch.
Grabbing it, Mr. Bump ran out of the house and down the street. He didn't stop until he got to the park where he saw pretty much everyone in Dillydale gathered around the brown-haired human, Mike. He was talking loud enough for everyone to hear.
"We can't let Tyler run you all out of your town!" he called. "And we definitely can't let Tyler destroy Dillydale! And we can't let him get a hold of Scarlet! He has her consciousness but not her body! And we will get her consciousness back, too!"
Mr. Bump winced, realizing the human was wrong. It had to be Tyler who broke the telescope and took Scarlet's body. He looked around the crowd until he saw Mr. Nosy and Mr. Small standing off to the side. He walked over there and as he approached, they turned to him, looking shocked to see him.
"Shouldn't you be back at our house?" Mr. Small asked.
"Where's Scarlet's body?" Mr. Nosy asked.
Mr. Bump hesitated, feeling guilty. "Gone," he muttered.
"Gone?" they gasped.
"What do you mean 'gone'?" Mr. Small asked him.
Mr. Bump explained how he heard a loud crash outside and he went to go see what it was. Mr. Nosy gasped when he heard the telescope was broken. "Then when I came back in, they were gone," Mr. Bump finished, frowning. "I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have left them, even for a moment!"
Mr. Small glanced over at the human. "We have to tell Mike."
But the human had stopped talking and was staring at them. He walked over. "Did I hear you right, Mr. Bump? You lost Scarlet's body?"
"I'm sorry!" Mr. Bump blurted. "I was distracted by a sound and–"
"I trusted you," Mike interrupted him. "When you're responsible for a kid, you don't get distracted."
Mr. Bump flinched and lowered his head.
Mr. Small stepped forward. "It wasn't his fault," he said peacefully. "We should blame Tyler. We have to find him before he leaves with Scarlet!"
"He won't leave until Dillydale is gone off the map," Mike insisted. "And I'm going to make sure that doesn't happen. I thought all we needed was her necklace but now we need to get her body back, too." He shot Mr. Bump a glare, and Mr. Bump ducked his head, feeling guilty and worried.
He jumped when someone touched his arm and he realized Mr. Small was giving him a reassuring pat before pulling away. He turned to Mike. "We need to find Tyler and fast," the small man said.
"No need," a new voice spoke up. "I'm right here."
Mr. Bump spun around to see the evil human standing behind them, glaring. Mike stepped forward. "Where's Scarlet's body?" he demanded.
"Locked away," Tyler answered, waving his hand dismissively. "I don't have time to waste anymore. I'm on a deadline and I need to finish up quickly so I'm going to destroy this town and be on my way."
"Please don't do that," Mr. Small begged, widening his eyes up at the much taller human.
Tyler frowned and crouched down, coming face to face with the small Mr. Man. Mr. Small looked uncertain but he met Tyler's gaze bravely. The human, looking bored, pushed the small man, making him stumble backwards. Mr. Nosy rushed forward to pick his best friend off the ground.
"Hey!" the light green Mr. Man said. "Don't push him!"
"Oh? No?" Tyler straightened up and turned a glare on the Mr. Man who was the same height but bigger than him because of his belly. "How about instead I push you?" He tried to do this, but the light green Mr. Man didn't move. He was much stronger than Tyler. Seeming to realize this, Tyler stepped back and started waving his hand, but before anything could happen, Mike jumped at Tyler, making to grab him.
Just in time, Tyler jumped back, glaring at Mike. "I don't have time for this," he growled. He looked around at everyone. "Leave or be destroyed with your town." He turned to leave, but Mike rushed forward and knocked him to the ground.
"Where is the necklace and Scarlet?" Mike demanded.
Tyler glared at him. "I'm not telling you," he growled.
"Where's Micheal?" Mike suddenly asked, glancing around.
Tyler narrowed his eyes. "Why do you care?" he asked. "You can't trick him into helping you!"
"Is he safe?" Mike pressed.
Tyler snorted. "Sure," he said, though that didn't really answer the question.
Mike was silent for a moment, while Tyler struggled under him to get up. Finally he said," I care about him. Clearly more than you do. Let me see him."
"No," Tyler growled, glaring up at him. Suddenly Tyler headbutted Mike, who fell backwards, holding his head, while Tyler got up and glared at the other human, before hurrying away.
Mr. Bump was frozen to the spot, unsure what to do. This really seemed like the end of DIllydale and everyone here. Unless we all leave, he thought, frowning. He didn't want to leave his home, but soon there wouldn't be a Dillydale, and if they stayed, none of them would be here either.
Finally, Mike managed to stand up again and he turned to everyone. To Mr. Bump's surprise, the human smiled.
Seeming confused as well, Mr. Small asked him," Why are you smiling?"
Mike held up something in his hand. It was a cell phone. Mr. Bump didn't understand.
"Where did that come from?" Mr. Nosy asked.
"It's Tyler's," the human explained.
He pushed a button on the phone and then immediately groaned. "I need a password," he said, sighing.
"Do you have any idea what it could be?" Mr. Small asked.
"No," Mike answered. He was silent for a moment. Then he said, as a smile spread on his face," But I know who would know."
