Chapter 691 Preparations
Although Evan and Gabrielle were honest and prone to changes, many changes were involuntarily made after the exchange of identities.
In the following Enchantments class, Evan easily completed the task assigned by Professor Flitwick.
That would not normally be a big surprise. He used to do the same and everyone was used to it.
But after Evan completed the work as Gabrielle, he received an unimaginable attention and astonishment!
She was a charming girl with a beautiful appearance, a gentle character, a sweet temperament, and excellent magical talent...
Gabrielle was very beloved among the younger boys. They gazed at her and made Evan feel uncomfortable.
On the other hand, Gabrielle took advantage of her situation to get along very well with Ginny and other girls as gleefully as Evan.
Many people were surprised to find out that Evan was so adept at socializing with girls.
Colin really approached and secretly asked Gabrielle for "girl advice"...
After a whole morning of experience, the two felt very tired.
As he entered the Great Hall for lunch, Evan hoped it would end very soon.
Ludo Bagman was already seated at the professors' table and seemed quite cheerful. Fudge was absent.
A few minutes later, Fleur made a rare appearance at the Gryffindor table and winked at Evan with a smile.
"My charming sister, after lunch, Madame Maxime has something to tell you," she walked towards him and said, sitting naturally next to Gabrielle, which was originally Colin's seat, "She'll be in the entrance hall. You can go see her alone."
"Understood," replied Evan, helplessly looking at Fleur.
When she didn't use "Gabrielle," but terms like "my charming sister" and "my dear sister"... Couldn't Fleur keep a low profile?!
There were murmurs around him. They saw Fleur and Evan sitting together, and Gabrielle and Hermione sitting across from them.
Observing the scene that they witnessed in the entrance hall this morning, many young wizards started to think that their minds were not functioning correctly...
Due to Fleur's sudden appearance, the atmosphere at the table became strange, and Ron was nervous and speechless.
There were too many people around, and some words were not easy to say here.
After lunch, Evan shook Hermione's hand vigorously, then walked alone towards Madame Maxime.
Madame Maxime was already waiting at the door, concerned and restless.
"Here you are, Gabrielle," said Madame Maxime. "Follow me to Dumbledore's office. Everyone is there."
"What's going on?" asked Evan, looking at Madame Maxime, mimicking Gabrielle's tone.
"Regarding the second task of the Triwizard Tournament, each champion needs to find someone to cooperate with to complete the task," Madame Maxime said, leading Evan up the stairs. "Gabrielle, you are the most important person to your sister Fleur. According to the arrangement, you will be sent to the lake in front of the castle, waiting for her to rescue you!"
"Enter the lake?"
"Yes, although Dumbledore has repeatedly promised to ensure your safety, you are too young to enter the deep lake..." Madame Maxime said anxiously. "If you refuse, I can find someone else."
"I want to do it," said Evan. He had become Gabrielle for that purpose. How could he refuse?
He followed Madame Maxime to Dumbledore's office, where Dumbledore, Karkaroff, Ludo Bagman, Moody, and Snape were already waiting.
Additionally, there were Professor Flitwick and Cho Chang, who was the most important person for Cedric, and a stocky boy from Durmstrang, the target of Krum, named Poliakoff.
As per Krum's original intention, he wanted to choose Hermione, but neither Evan nor Hermione agreed. The matter itself required the consent of the chosen target, and Karkaroff randomly found a replacement for him.
Dumbledore greeted cheerfully as Evan entered, "Good afternoon, Gabrielle!"
"Hello, Professor Dumbledore," replied Evan, sitting in a chair in the corner.
Dumbledore had identified him, and everything had been arranged.
After a while, Harry followed Professor McGonagall into the office. He looked around and approached Evan.
"Alright, everyone is here," said Dumbledore gently. "You should know what's going to happen. You'll enter the lake in front of the castle. I will personally cast a spell on the four of you, which will make you sleep and breathe underwater. I assure you the whole process is not dangerous, and you will wake up as soon as you leave the water. Any questions?"
The four shook their heads, having no objections.
"Very well, you know, the entire process of the task is confidential for the champions. I suggest you do not return until the end of the task tomorrow!" said Dumbledore. "We have prepared a guest room on the first floor of the castle where you can spend the night. Dinner will be delivered by the house-elves. We will be out at six tomorrow morning."
During the afternoon, Professor Dumbledore explained in detail the whole task process to Evan, Harry, Cho, and Poliakoff. He took them to the lake to experiment with the spell. He communicated with the fierce and ruthless female leader of the Merpeople who continued to emit a sharp, shrill voice.
Obviously, he could also speak Mermish.
Cornelius Fudge arrived at Hogwarts around three in the afternoon, with a tense expression, seeming a bit unhappy. Five Aurors followed him, and Sirius was among them. They would be responsible for preparing the entire playing field to ensure there were no accidents.
From Evan's perspective, Fudge brought so many Aurors here mainly to protect his own safety. Crouch's disappearance gave him a warning. He realized that the magical world was not as peaceful as he had thought.
As for ensuring there were no accidents during the task, those few Aurors would have little effect. During the task, they would not enter the lake, not to mention that Barty Crouch Jr. would also be involved in the security work.
Overall, the preparations for the second task were carried out in an orderly manner.
Except for Evan, the other three going to the lake were a bit nervous, especially Poliakoff, who was not familiar with the others.
Harry seemed to want to communicate with Cho Chang, but didn't know what to say, so he could only follow the team.
In the end, Cho talked with Evan all afternoon, and she was the one doing most of the talking.
Cho turned out to be more talkative than Evan had previously thought. She talked about all kinds of recent events, from gossip and rumors at school to the upcoming task, as well as her impressions of the boys. Many of them were new to Evan.
She seemed to think she got along well with "Gabrielle" and, out of fear, invited her to spend the night with her...
