Sorry about not uploading yesterday-it got hectic all of a sudden.
Under normal circumstances, Hawks would've had Carissa perform a natural birth in the hotel room. Just as his mother and father did with him to not risk getting caught by authorities. But with Carissa's instability, he had to take a chance and have her brought to a hospital. Their closest location was Sicily, Italy. Hawks held Carissa close to him in his arms as she breathed heavily. She clutched Hawks's coat, scared of both heights and the outcome of having this baby.
"You're gonna be okay, Carissa." Hawks muttered close to her face. "You're gonna be fine. Just hold on."
They made it to the hospital. Hawks was dressed in his hero uniform to have authority and get the hospital's help right away. He didn't want people to think he kidnapped the woman, but looking back on it now, it might've been a bad idea since he knew by now people were looking for him. But he didn't care. His number one priority was to make sure their child was delivered safely and Carissa would survive.
Hawks entered the doors with Carissa and informed them of her water having broken. The doctors had him lay her on a hospital bed in one of the vacant rooms and started pumping her with epidural painkillers. The whole time they were alone together, Hawks rested on the bed with her. He held her, caressed her hands with his gloved ones, whispering her assuring words that she and the baby would be alright. Carissa remained quiet most of the time, afraid but trying to stay strong.
After several hours of being in labor, waves of pain started shooting through Carissa. Hawks told the doctors right away, who came in and began prepping for the delivery. However, as expected, Carissa was having difficulty. Hawks stayed by her side the whole time, holding her hand. Telling her he was there and that she'd be okay. Trying to convince himself, too. But the winged man was having trouble keeping it together. No matter how much he tried to remain strong, his eyes threatened to water at the sight of Carissa's pained expressions. Guilt from the way he treated her before her pregnancy was getting to him. The doctors and nurses were telling her to breathe and eventually push, but his beautiful songbird started screeching in pain as she did so. Hawks's lips parted at one particular sob that sung in different volumes.
Carissa's eyes met Hawks's. "K-Keigo…" She whimpered.
Hawks leaned forward and pressed his forehead against her temple, squeezing her hand. "You're doing great, angel. Just breathe." He muttered, closing his eyes.
The baby began crowning. Everyone was telling her one last push. With both her and Hawks squeezing their hands together, Carissa gave it all her might. Hawks gritted his teeth as Carissa screamed out delivering a final, painful push.
Little cries filled the room, fully catching Carissa's and Hawks's attention. The nurses hurriedly wrap up a crying pink bundle, covering outstretching tiny hands before bringing her over to her parents. The couple couldn't speak as they were shown the little one. She was so small. Her flesh was pink and squishy-looking. She had tufts of strawberry-blonde hair that curled against her head. Tears formed in the corners of her closed eyes. She looked like her mother, but she had her father's black triangles in her eyes' corners.
Carissa was still breathing heavily as the baby was placed in her arms, Hawks helping her by cupping the infant's head. They both stared at their child in awe and adoration, who soon settled down and nestled into her mother's arms.
However, before anyone could say anything, the monitors observing Carissa's body started to beep erratically.
"Keigo…" Carissa's voice became a whisper, turning to Hawks as her eyelids fluttered.
Hawks turned to Carissa, seeing her head start to drop as her arms slowly unraveled from the baby. "D-Dove?" He asked, swiftly catching the infant as she began slipping from her mother's arms. "Angel?!"
The doctors and nurses rushed over, speaking orders to stabilize Carissa. She was losing consciousness. A nurse carefully removed the baby from Hawks while a doctor told Hawks they needed him to move out of the room while they took care of the woman. The baby began crying again as she was taken out of the room, but Hawks could barely hear her in the moment as his paranoia for Carissa heightened. He didn't want to leave, but the nurses eventually convinced him and he was forced to go into the waiting room down the hall.
Angel, please don't leave me.
Unknown to him, a doctor peeked from behind one of the vacant hospital rooms behind the winged hero. His eyes were squinted, taking in the beautiful red wings before realizing hit him in the face. Very quietly, the man stepped back and shut the hospital door before pulling his phone out of his coat and dialing a number. Putting it up to his ear, he waited until someone picked up from the other line.
"Good morning. I heard that the Japanese number two hero Hawks was missing?" The doctor said. "Well, I think he's at my hospital."
Detective Waterson was trying desperately to maintain composure while sitting across from the suspect, who just smirked back at him like there was nothing to worry about. The suspect's hands had been chained to the table after an attempt to put her hands on the detective. While Ms. Quade's quirk was very effective, it had its limits. She could only activate her quirk once she touches the person she wants to possess. Thankfully the quirk does not work on everyone either, but it's rare. The detective had been able to get in contact with this Drew Foster person who used to work in the office and had him explain his side of the story. He said he never felt any temptation toward Nicola, despite mentioning she did touch him a few times.
Unfortunately, it obviously had effect on Hawks.
"So…" The detective started, ignoring the woman's arrogant, seductive expression. That look might've given any naïve man an open door for intimacy, but the detective knew better. "…This is the fourth time you've been arrested."
"I did nothing wrong~." The woman chuckled, her sickeningly sweet voice making the detective's skin crawl.
"You're being charged with multiple counts of illegal use of your quirk, on civilians and a foreign hero. You also have charges of murder, rape, theft, and harassment against you as well." The detective informed her.
"Prove it." The woman challenged.
"We have witnesses who claim you've been using your quirk on people in your office to engage sexual intercourse and other illegal activity, one of those victims being your former boss. Others say you've harassed and assaulted your coworker, Carissa Lockhart. We have reason to believe you're responsible for her disappearance last year as well."
"Where's your so-called evidence~?"
"Given your criminal record, I don't find it to be a major coincidence a coworker you're not fond of has gone missing. A witness claims you tried to engage sex with the Japanese pro hero Hawks during an investigation at your office, only to be turned down and then see the hero take an interest in that coworker."
This was not Ms. Quade's first offense. Throughout the last few years, she had been arrested three different times for illegally using her quirk on three different guys. However, the reasons were not for sex. It was safe to say Jezel had a tendency to get envious whenever a guy she liked would fall for another female instead of her, despite her attempts to use her quirk on those men. All three of the previous cases involved a man Ms. Quade craved but could not possess. So to annihilate the competition, Jezel used her quirk to influence random guys to harass the girl the man Jezel wanted fell for. The last case, one of those men abducted the girl, but was thankfully found due to another detective's quirk-tracking ability. That was the worst of the three cases, but now there was this one.
This occurred back in Ms. Quade's middle and high school years. Detective Waterson had helped bust Ms. Quade in all three cases.
Since then, she must have changed her name and job to hide from public criticism so her reputation wouldn't be ruined. After the heat cooled, she could eventually resume pursuing her career as a fashion designer.
Having done this, her attempts are now futile assuming she deliberately put all of that timing to waste.
The woman suddenly let out this obnoxious, scornful laugh. "That's not evidence~."
"It is, actually." The detective said. "Considering how you've used your quirk in the past. Also, it's been brought to my attention that Hawks does not have a history of behaving how he has this past year."
"This is boring~!" Jezel complained like a child. "I'd rather have some fun~! Come on, detective~. Let me show you a good time~." The woman said in her disgusting, sickeningly sweet voice laced with seduction.
The detective ignored her attempts, resisting the urge to yell at her. "Where are Hawks and Ms. Lockhart?" He asked.
"Even if I knew where they were, I wouldn't tell you~." Ms. Quade chuckled. "It serves that rustic bitch right for stealing from me~."
She hasn't asked for a lawyer, which usually means she wants to toy with the people interrogating her before asking for one. That person was Detective Waterson, but he's a perfect match since he knows how to interact with her better than others.
"Stole from you?" The detective asked.
"That little nobody had the nerve to attract Hawks's attention after having stolen another guy from me!" Ms. Quade said, her arrogant stance switching to anger. "She's getting what's coming to her!"
"So you admit you used your quirk on Hawks?"
She gave a swirly, "No~" in response. "It's called karma."
"I heard from witnesses that Carissa showed no romantic interest in Hawks." The detective pointed out. "You seemed to be well aware of that, according to one of them."
"It doesn't matter. She should've considered my feelings and made herself look even uglier than before." The woman said, looking away and chewing on the tip of her acrylic nail.
The detective held back a sigh. He wasn't going to get anywhere with this woman. She was doing the exact same thing as before under interrogation. She's even indirectly admitting to it, though he's not sure if she even realizes. This woman was a narcissistic idiot.
A knock from the only door into the room echoed inside. The detective got up a little too quickly in response. "Excuse me." He told the woman, quickly turning away and going to the door.
"You're excused~." The woman said with a hint of snideness, followed by another stupid chuckle.
The detective calmly exited the room and shut the door before looking to Endeavor, only to see another fellow detective. Before he could ask, the other detective showed his phone to the detective.
"They just received a couple of calls, and one is from a hospital in Sicily, Italy." The other detective said, looking to both Waterson and Endeavor. "A doctor thinks Hawks and Ms. Lockhart are at his hospital."
Hawks's fingers were intertwined over his mouth, his thumbs pressing into his cheeks as he stared at the ground. His elbows rested on his knees while his legs bounced. All he could do was worry over his beloved bird in the hospital room down the hall. The winged hero could sense the very few people in the room's eyes on him and hear them mention him being that hero from Japan, his concern for Carissa's wellbeing clouded his mind. People who realized it was him saw his worried posture and stayed where they were instead of asking for a handshake or autograph, not blind to the hero clearly not in the mood. One person did offer him water from an unopened bottle and Hawks gratefully drank a little but that was about it.
A nurse entered the room and turned to Hawks. "Sir?"
Hawks looked up, giving the nurse his full attention.
"May you please come with me?" The nurse asked in a heavy accent.
Hawks immediately got up and followed the nurse down the hall. He could see the room down the hall, but a doctor was waiting in front of it. Once they reached the doctor, the nurse stopped and both hospital employees gave their attention to Hawks. The birdman dreaded for the doctor's words.
"She's alive…but she's fallen into a coma."
