A/N: I just wondered what it'd be like if jaybabs was a thing in the Harley Quinn show. Btw, I decided that in this fanfic Jim doesn't know Barbara is Batgirl. And Bab's hair is longer.
Batgirl was at the Cobblepot banquet investigating a lead on Edward Cobblepot. "Bingo," she whispered to herself.
Rookie/Amateur bad guy, and so many in town. She was grateful but disappointed since Edward was rich so security would've been tighter than usual villain parties. Finding files in the specific briefcase, she snatched it and took off to where her motorcycle was, then it hit her…
Edward is the son of Penguin, he was raised by him, which means he is aware of the bat family. It seems too good to be true that he'd be dumb enough not to expect a member of the said family since all of Burnside is aware of Batgirl which means…
"I've Been expecting you, Bat! " a voice called. The vigilante saw herself surrounded by at least fifteen men wearing bag masks over their heads and sunglasses.
As they pulled out their guns, Batgirl threw batarangs, disarming all of them. She cartwheeled to one on the side and kicked him in the face. Punching the next, then flipping the other, she managed to knock them all out with such a mixture of combat experience and ballet. Her victory mood only lasted a second before the sound of a gunshot from behind her. Turning around, she found one red-masked goon lying face down on the concrete floor, lifeless with blood leaking out from his head.
The hero looked ahead to face whoever fired the bullet. It seemed to be a man…in greyish body armor, leather jacket, biker boots, and wearing a red helmet, two holes revealing blank white eyes.
"No. Fricking. Way…y—you're Red Hood!" She squealed in excitement. The anti-hero just made a confused expression with his lenses.
"You…know who I am?"
Batgirl nodded, "How could I not know who I'm talking to! Now I can fight a villain who is cool!". This was huge, she had fought Two-Face and The Riddler but they weren't nearly as impressive as the minor badass crime in front of her.
Red Hood just stared at her with an unreadable expression. "I don't think so, I didn't come here to fight you, well not anymore since you seem different from the old man's tight-ass sidekicks".
Batgirl furrowed her eyebrows out of confusion and disappointment, "Okay so…you're after Cobblepot's son?"
Red Hood just stared at her blankly. "Seems we want the same thing. So…you're not afraid of me?" He questioned as he walked closer.
"No offense man, but I've dealt with worse". Not a lie since she has been in Harley Quinn's chaotic life many times. So she can handle another antihero. "And since you don't want to fight me, I assume you want me on your side instead".
He chuckled in amusement. "Spunky, aren't you? That is a unique combination with adorable". He then clapped his hands together. "So…let's team up".
"Okay, one: I'm NOT adorable and, two: why this offer? You don't know me. We just met seconds ago".
Red Hood walked to the masked woman and placed his gloved hand on her shoulder urging her to walk with him. "We shouldn't chat here. The rooftop is better".
Batgirl gently pushed the guy's arm off her shoulder. She looked at him with her lenses slowly narrowing into slits. The crime lord sighed. "Relax Batsie, I'm not going to hurt you. I just wanted to tell you what lead I have about this case".
On a rooftop, Batgirl turned her head left and right. She knew that Red Hood usually did his missions solo, but that didn't mean he was predictable. She had a smoke bomb ready in case he led her into an ambush. He exhaled as he turned to Batgirl. "That lead has something to do with a certain pyromaniac".
"How does Firefly fit into this?" She asked with her arms folded. "Wait…Edward broke him out of Arkham".
"Nailed it, beautiful", Red Hood snapped his fingers into a pointed gesture. "Who else would a D-list asshole need to set something on fire?"
This was her possible answer for how Edward would attack areas sponsored by Sean Mullen, the founder of a cellphone company. One that had invented a brand new model in Gotham. "Well, I can beat them to it".
"Why don't you say we can beat them to it?" Red Hood suggested. "As partners, I know where to find Firefly". Red Hood walked to Batgirl and placed his arm over her shoulder. "We could be the most unstoppable team in Gotham".
"Let's just stick to this case and see how it goes".
"Okay, so we should get going".
"Way ahead of you Hood", Batgirl winked as she jumped off the rooftop with a backflip and shot her grappling hook. Red Hood just stared and whistled.
At the Firefly warehouse, Garfield Lynns was working on his new flame thrower. Little did he know that two individuals were watching.
"Villain lairs are surprisingly easy to find", Red Hood whispered.
"I know right?!" Batgirl agreed. "Okay, he seems to be alone. Typical, we can take him".
"Ready when you are", Red Hood had a gun ready but Batgirl pushed it down and frowned at the antihero.
"Non-lethal".
"You're no fun Batsie".
As Garfield was done, he tried going to his chambers when Red Hood had the jump on him. "WHAT THE—"
"Hello, Bug Man", Red Hood sneered darkly, holding a knife at his throat. "Answer this and I won't end you. Where. Is. Iann?"
"What? What the fuck do you want him for?".
"Tell us where he is, or I'll tell Batman and the GCPD your plan", Batgirl spoke, who already took pictures of his map target poster of his crime areas. Firefly groaned in frustration.
"How many of you brats are there working for the Bat?"
"A lot", Batgirl answered, hoping she was right as she still had to officially earn Batman's trust. He allowed her to temporarily replace him as Gotham's Dark Knight but hasn't taken her to his cave yet. "Now where is Iann?"
"He's at Avenue X".
Red Hood backed away and as Firefly was prepared to fire at him, he found no flames coming out. His tank fell from his back. He turned around to find Batgirl behind him, holding a screwdriver. "What—how—"
"Surprising you is just as easy as finding supervillain lairs", she grinned before punching the man's face in. Red Hood was surprised at that.
"Hey, it's better than bringing him to the GCPD in person. I don't have a bat-mobile".
"I'm not judging you Batsie, I would have just shot him".
Batgirl and Red Hood heard police sirens and that was their queue to leave the building.
A few minutes later, they were watching from a dark distance. "I gotta say Batsie, it was smart to go for Iann instead of Edward".
"Iann has a criminal record and if Sean has him as his employee then it's bad news. We'll have him cornered before Friday".
Red Hood stared at her in silence then chuckled. "Well, then I guess I should act on my source".
"Your…source?"
"Cobblepot Jr. has other lackeys wiping his ass".
Before Red Hood jumped off the rooftop, Batgirl asked a question. "Red Hood…why are you helping me?"
Red Hood glanced over his shoulder, "Cuz, you're…interesting". He leaped off, Batgirl wasn't satisfied with that answer. It was cryptic and ominous. She will have to look into this partner, and she already has an idea of how.
