She sat on the sofa and watched her youngest niece reach for the toy on the opposite side of the rug. She was glad her father wasn't here at the moment, because he would certainly object to his granddaughter being allowed to sit on the floor, but the baby was so unhappy being held, and she was getting quite heavy to carry besides.
"The others have left for the party," Knightley announced as he entered the room, and sat down beside her. "I'm quite certain my brother doesn't believe your excuse for staying home."
