Prologue.

A light mist of rain fell on the grounds of Xavier's School for the Gifted as Professor Xavier gathered with the students and X-Men to watch Scott, Morph,

Gambit, Beast, Colossus and Nightcrawler lower the coffin containing Logan's reassembled skeleton into the ground. They each had grieved his death years

ago and had visited his grave but since it was disturbed by DeadPool they brought the X-Man home to be buried at his home. Now that he was getting the

funeral he deserved each member once again felt the heavy burden of grief weigh down on them as they stood back to allow Jean, Storm, Rogue, Jubilee and

Kitty drop white roses on his coffin.

Nightcrawler stepped back from the others and moved to where the new headstone had been erected. Looking out at the X-Men and students he said "James

'Logan' Howlett was a mentor, a true friend and father – figure. He moved through life like an unstoppable force we were fortunate to have known. Logan was

the member you wanted by your side when in the fight against those who oppressed our kind. Yet for someone so strong he was taken from us. We must

never forget his heroic sacrifice and the friendship we had with him".

Seeing tears falling from Nightcrawler's eyes Scott walked to his side and added "today we honour this man and remember him for what he meant to us. To

many outside these grounds he was a hero, he was the X-Man, but, to us he was family and we were his". Stepping away from the grave Kurt rubbed eyes

wishing his friend was still alive while Jean used her powers to push the dirt in to the grave.

The silence was interrupted by the sound of a vehicle driving up the driveway and the soft screeching of brakes. Looking over to see they saw a blonde haired

woman climbing out of a red car. Morph recognised her immediately and giving a watery smile he said "she's here professor".

Professor Xavier who had been silently scanning the wooded tree line turned to see the woman, a former X-Man let a seven year old boy out of the backseat

before taking his hand and leading him toward them.

"It's good to see you again Evangeline and thank you for coming" said Xavier as soon as she had joined them.

Evangeline smiled at the professor and said "I'm sorry we're late Professor, it was a long drive".

Professor Xavier smiled at her and the young boy who ran his hand through his dark brown hair before letting go of his Mother's hand and running over to Kurt

who had visited him and his Mother a few times a year.

Scott smiled at the boy before walking over to Evangeline and giving her a hug he said "it's good to see you home. We missed you". Looking at the headstone

he added "we all did".

Evangeline looked down at the grave before saying "I missed you all too. As you know I went home for a short while but my family weren't too happy with me

being a mutant so I left. Spent a few years moving around before I bumped into Logan again. Of course he was happy to see me but he was sick and…".

Seeing tears flow from Evangeline's eyes Jean embraced her in a hug and said "if we had known he was so sick, if he had told us, we would have done

everything we could to help him".

Pulling away from Jean Evangeline said "I know ye would have but how could we have cured him when it was the adamantium that was poisoning him. It

would have been impossible to remove the adamantium from his skeleton. I just wish he had lived to see Jake being born and to watch him grow up to be the

child he is today".

The X-Men turned to look at the little boy and seeing the resemblance he had to his father they smiled happy to see that a descendant of Logan was here. One

that would no doubt be as great as the Wolverine.

"He would have been excited to be a father and would have done anything for you both" said Scott as tears flowed from his eyes as more guilt weighed on him

that he couldn't protect Logan from his fate.

Storm who had thought Evangeline would never return placed a hand on her shoulder and said "I do hope you stay longer with us. We'd all like to get to know

Jake and to help you through this".

"I'd like that Ororo. Jake needs to be here where it's safe, but be prepared for his tantrums. He can be a handful at times". Seeing the understanding looks

she asked "could I have a few minutes alone and Morph could you bring Jake with you?".

Picking Jake up Morph replied "of course Eva. Come join us when you are ready". Seeing her nod her head Morph followed the rest of the X-Men indoors.

Having stayed behind Professor Xavier sensed the wave of sadness radiating off of Evangeline. He should have reached out to her like Kurt and Morph had, he

should have accompanied them when they went to see her. He should have been there for her. Giving one final glance at the tree line he followed the X-Men

indoors.

Kneeling in front of the grave Evangeline let the tears flow freely as she remembered all the times she had spent with Logan. There were good days and bad

days but they were happy with each other. Pulling a single red rose from inside her coat she whispered "I miss you Logan. I never regretted a single moment I

spent with you and I never will. I just wish that you had lived to see Jake".

Wiping the tears away to let more fall she added "he's a great kid. He has your eyes and hair colour, he also inherited your healing abilities. I know we spoke

of never having kids but he is a blessing and I hope you're proud of him. As for Laura, I'm sure she's doing well. When I find her I'll bring her back here where

she and Jake will be safe. I promise". Placing the rose in front of the headstone Evangeline got to her feet and said "rest peacefully my love" before walking

toward the house not knowing that hidden in wooded tree line stood Deadpool and the Wolverine variant watching the last member return indoors.

"Why are we here Wade and don't fucking tell me it's because you wanted to pay your respects to the corpse you tore apart?" asked Logan as he lit a cigar

and leaned against a tree.

Wade wiped the front of his mask where his eyes were and replied "I just wanted to see him laid to rest and btw, it wasn't his corpse I tore apart, it was his

skeleton. Like come on I don't think Disney would have allowed that".

Rolling his eyes Logan muttered "not this again". Looking at the headstone he asked "can we go now?".

Wade sniffed and nodding his head he led the way back through trees so they could scale the wall. They both walked in silence before Logan asked "who was

the woman that was bent over crying at his grave?".

Wade shrugged his shoulders and replied "I don't know my little Honey Badger but Colossus will. He's coming over to visit this evening. It's always handy to

have someone on the inside".

Logan stood in front of the perimeter wall and giving an irritated grunt he asked "do I have to be there?".

"Of course you do. Blind Al insists that you be there and be part of our little family" whined Wade as he hoisted himself over the wall. Shaking his head Logan

pulled himself to the top of the wall but his movements were stopped when he felt a prodding in his mind as if someone were trying to connect with him

telepathically. Shaking his head, he ignored it and jumped down on to the road before following Wade to where they parked the car.
