Sophia's POV
It's been a couple of months since we had returned to New Orleans and things were a little stressful around here still while Nik was always off busy in the Quarter while I stayed at the plantation looking after Hayley and making sure that our safe-house remained a safe-house which luckily it has until now...as I was reading in the library when I heard a car driving up the drive and knew it wasn't Nik since he didn't drive into the Quarter so I immediately dropped the book and speed towards Hayley who was at the top of the stairs clearly having heard it as well and I held my finger to my lips signaling her to be quiet.
"Elijah, if not answering your phone was part of your clever plan to get me back to this godforsaken city then well done, I'm here and I'm worried now pick up before I kick in your bloody door" I frowned at the sound of Rebekah's voice.
"Stay here" I whispered to Hayley before I went down the stairs right as Rebekah opened the door.
"Who the hell are you?" I stopped looking back seeing Hayley had ignored me and was coming down the stairs behind me with a fire poker in her hands.
"Ah, you must be the maid" Rebekah sighed and I scoffed rolling my eyes, ever the manners Bekah. "My bags are in the car, get them will you?"
"Hello, not the maid" Hayley remarked and Rebekah turned towards me as I shook my head at her agreeing with Hayley's statement.
"Right, you're that werewolf girl carrying my brother and sister-in-law's child" Rebekah finally clued in to who Hayley was. "I was expecting to see some kind of supernatural miracle baby bump, guess you're not showing" I scoffed since Hayley was only around two months so she wouldn't be showing yet for a little while.
"Rebekah this is Hayley, Hayley Rebekah Klaus's sister" I introduced them.
"You have your brothers manners" Hayley commented looking at Bekah.
"And his temper too, so watch it" Rebekah remarked before she looked around. "Where's Elijah?" she asked and my face fell into a confused frown.
"Beats me, he's long gone" Hayley said before I had the chance to voice my concerns since if Elijah hasn't been with Rebekah this whole time then where the hell was he.
"What do you mean, long gone?" Rebekah asked turning towards me but I could only shrug since I had no clue where Elijah was.
"Well one minute he was here making epic promises about protecting me in this predicament that these witches forced me into, he was all poetic about how were family and then Klaus tells us he's bailed, guess that's what I get for trusting a vampire" Hayley replies and I give her an offended look with the last sentence.
"Klaus said that he'd gone back to Mystic Falls to help you with the cure, I assumed he'd been with you this whole time" I added seeing Rebekah look at me.
"Elijah is not just any vampire and you know as well as I do Sophia that he doesn't break promises" I nodded my head having to agree with her since that wasn't like Elijah and I had completely neglected to think otherwise believing Klaus which I now understood was a mistake. "Which means Niklaus has done something dastardly and Klaus-like" she added before she turned and walked into the front parlor room. "Klaus, get out here and tell me what you've done with our brother, you narcissistic, back-stabbing wanker!" I sighed rolling my eyes as I followed her
"Enough with all the shouting" Nik announced opening a pair doors coming in from the office making me frown since I hadn't even heard him return tonight. "Little sister I should have known, I assume the six dead vampires were you're doing?" he asked her and I raised an eye in Rebekah's direction.
"They were very rude...trying to victimize a poor innocent girl just trying to find her way into the Quarter" Rebekah argued and I bit back a laugh.
"Classy as ever Beks" I smiled not missing Nik's glare my way but I ignored him.
"So sorry, were they friends of yours...oh that's right, you don't have any friends" Bekah smiled sarcastically at him.
"I do have friends, I have Sophia-" I raised my eye at him.
"I don't count Nik" I remarked earning myself another glare from him.
"I have Marcel" he quickly added turning back to Rebekah with a devious smile. "You remember him, don't you?" Rebekah's face dropped. "Yes of course you do, he fancies himself the king of the Quarter now and he has these rules about killing vampires, it will be fun to see what sort of punishment he comes up with for you"
"I don't care about Marcel or his rules, Elijah doesn't welch on deals what did you do to him?" Rebekah argued glaring at Nik and I turned my eyes on him too wanting to know that as well but I had my suspicions.
"Perhaps he's on holiday" Nik smirked taking a seat. "Or taking a long autumn nap upstairs, well go on take a look around" he added and Rebekah started to walk away but of course Nik wasn't done. "You remember this house as well as I"
"I remember everything" Bekah spat back at him. "I remember how the drunken fool of a governor hid away all of our vampire sins in exchange for gold, I remember the lavish parties the governor threw as if to impress you, I remember finding a moment of affection with the governors son Emil and I remember that even Elijah was happy" I listened since this was before my time and she went on recalling the man in which apparently Nik had thrown from a three story platform on the stairs and killed.
"Well he wasn't good enough for you" Nik states making me roll my eyes at him.
"No one was ever good enough for me Nik, you made sure of that" Rebekah spat at him with a glare making me frown. "Now where is Elijah?" she asked but Nik's phone buzzed and he pulled it out of his pocket before smiling and stood heading for the door. "Where are you going?" she asked stopping him.
"It appears the night is not quite over yet, I'm off for another drink with Marcel" Nik replied and my frown deepened as I crossed my arms at him.
"Elijah told me about your plan to take apart Marcel's empire piece by piece, I don't remember it involving you two drinking New Orleans dry together" Rebekah protested.
"I know you don't have many friends Rebekah but what some friends do when they get together is they drink and when they drink they tell secrets, Marcel has somehow found a way to control the entirety of witches in the Quarter and I aim to uncover the 'how' so I might take it for myself, finding Elijah didn't make my to-do list today" he argues then turns to me and presses a kiss to my forehead before he walks to the door but pauses. "Oh and welcome home, little sister" he quickly added before he was gone and Bekah turned to me and Hayley.
"I'm going to search this house inch by inch until I find what my evil brother has done to my good one, you're both helping" I let out a sigh and nodded my head since I owed it to Elijah to help him after what he'd done for me and Hayley rescuing us from the witches. "The governor had lots of secret rooms, I'll show you his favorite" she said as she led us down some old stone stairs and we arrived in the dusty, cobwebbed cellar room and saw the coffins.
"You think Klaus killed him" Hayley asked her.
"We can't be killed, silly girl" Rebekah argued. "That doesn't stop Klaus from finding ways to torture us, he has a set of mystical silver daggers one in the heart sends us into a deep slumber, Klaus gets his jollies from keeping us in a box until he decides to pull the dagger out that must be what he's done to Elijah" she explained as I countered the coffins seeing them all here except Elijah's. "This one's mine" she pointed out the closest one.
"He keeps your coffin on standby" Hayley asked sounding like she couldn't believe it.
"He likes to be prepared for when his family members inevitably disappoint him" Rebekah spat and I sighed since when was Nik going to learn.
"Elijah's isn't here, he must've stashed him elsewhere" I told her and she nodded.
"I feel sick" Hayley suddenly said and I turned towards her with a frown, she's been having a lot of trouble with morning sickness lately and I'll admit seeing this would make anyone not used to it sick.
"Welcome to the family love" Rebekah remarked making me frown at her. "You should've run the second you realized Elijah was gone" Rebekah told me and I rolled my eyes.
"She can't, the witches have put a hex on her so as long as she's carrying the baby, she can't leave New Orleans" I informed Rebekah. "If she does, they kill the baby" I added.
"Well knowing Klaus he's planning a box for you the second you give birth to whatever's cooking in your tum"
"Rebekah!" I exclaimed then turned towards Hayley. "That won't happen Hayley, I promise you"
"Well I'm leaving as soon as I find Elijah, being daggered in a box for decades sucks...trust me you'd best find a way to break that hex and run...both of you" Bekah argued looking at me, I rolled my eyes since I couldn't do that, I can't leave Nik like that, I sighed and looked at Hayley.
"Go back upstairs Hayley, I'm gonna help Rebekah find Elijah" I tell her before I chase after Rebekah since knowing her she'd ruin the entire plan here and I didn't want the mess in the Quarter following her back to this dwelling and to Hayley. "You know this situation sucks already Bekah, I really don't need you scaring Hayley off so tone it down on the negativity around her, would you"
"I'm just being honest with her Sophia" Rebekah argued making me roll my eyes.
"Well honesty is gonna make her run with my baby and get herself killed" I glared at her as we got into her car and she started driving towards the Quarter since she wanted to talk with the witch even though I tried to convince her already that Sophie Deveraux couldn't help us but as usual you couldn't tell a Mikaelson not to do anything because it will just make them want to do it more.
"Hello...seriously Marcel trying to scare me?" Sophie yelled out as Rebekah and I entered Rousseau's having a little fun by keeping out of sight and make pots and pans rattle. "I had nothing to do with the attack on your guys last night!" we then watch as she grabs a knife, which she lifts in time for Rebekah and I to appear and Rebekah grabbed her raised hand with the knife.
"Sophie Deveraux, my brother Elijah told me about you, know who I am?" Rebekah asked her.
"Yeah, I know"
"Then you know we need to talk" Rebekah insisted and I frowned crossing my arms since I really felt like we shouldn't poke the bear, not when this bitch can kill Hayley in a blink of the eye but Rebekah wasn't gonna give up looking for Elijah so I followed them to the cemetery. "So if I had to guess, knowing Klaus's history Elijah has a dagger in his chest, it's a magical object you're a witch, do a locator spell locate the dagger, locate Elijah"
"I can't use magic, it's punishable by death...Marcel's rules" Sophie argued.
"Marcel...what do you think I'm going to do to you if you don't give me what I want?" I rolled my eyes at Rebekah's reply.
"Not much, I've been linked so anything you do to me, you do to Hayley" Sophie protested and I glared at her for the reminder.
"Who?" Rebekah asked and I turned towards her, raising an eye while Sophie gives her a significant look. "Oh, right the mumsy, well luckily for you Elijah seems to care about her, otherwise I'd break your neck right here" I rolled my eyes at her. "How did Marcel get so bloody powerful anyway, he wasn't like this when I left a hundred years ago"
"Marcel has a way to tell whenever there's magic done in the Quarter, the 'how' isn't relevant" Sophie argued and I glared at her.
"I'll tell you what's not bloody relevant, a coven of witches who can't do magic...here's an idea...move away"
"We practice ancestral magic, this cemetery is filled with the remains of our witch ancestors, without access to them we're powerless, if we run we're leaving our legacy behind, our home, our family" .
"Well family's overrated, look at me I'm back in a city that's given me nothing but heartache, looking for a brother who's hell-bent on protecting a baby I don't care about"
"Wow Rebekah" I scoffed glaring softly at her.
"I find that hard to believe, you're here aren't you?" Sophie added protesting with Rebekah's statement.
"I'm here for Elijah, the instant I find him I'm gone, he was the one who idiotically believed this baby would be Niklaus' redemption and now he's missing, probably at the hands of Klaus himself and you were foolish enough to believe that Elijah could convince Klaus to go against Marcel when everyone knows that they have a history"
"Klaus sired Marcel, I'm aware" Sophie replied and I looked over since did these witches really not know the real story behind Klaus and Marcel.
"You don't understand, Marcel is not just some guy that Klaus turned into a vampire...Klaus loved him like a son" Rebekah informed her. "Klaus saw himself in the boy, he remembered how our father used to beat him, he too was the bastard child of a man who saw him as nothing but a beast and that is why your plan will fail, all you've done if bring back together two long-lost souls, without Elijah between them who knows what they'll do" she adds before she walks off, I let out a sigh before I leave too leaving Rebekah to continue looking for Elijah while I returned to the plantation figuring I had to check up on Hayley and wait until she had a better plan to find him.
"Hayley I'm back!" I yelled through the house as I walked into the kitchen with some food that I had picked up since we were running low here. "You hungry?" I asked putting it away but quickly frowned when I got no reply so I headed upstairs and knocked on her door. "Hayley?" I pushed it open, my frown deepening when she wasn't in here. "Hayley?!" I ran back downstairs and checked this whole bloody house but she was gone so I pulled out my phone and called Nik but it went straight to voicemail. "Nik I have a problem, call me back" I left him a message keeping it cryptic just in case. "Where are you Hayley?" I grabbed one of Hayley's jackets to get her scent before I set off trying to track her down but heard my phone go off signalling I had a text so I pulled my phone out of my pocket and checked it.
Your surrogate mumsy is in trouble, get to Bienville Park – Rebekah, my face immediately paled at the thought of Hayley being in the quarter and sped up getting into the Quarter as fast as I could arriving at the same time as Rebekah and just in time to rip out a vampires heart.
"Now that is no way to treat a pregnant lady, I do hate bad manners" Rebekah speaks up to the dead vampires while I throw the heart on the ground while Hayley gapes at us, still in shock.
"Hayley, are you okay?" I asked her as she stared down at the dead vampires. "Hayley?" she still refused to answer which meant she was clearly in shock. "We should get out of here, we need to take these guys too" Rebekah gave me a face but I just gave her a look back since we couldn't leave them here for Marcel to find and trace back to us.
Rebekah and I load the vampires into her car and drive us all back to the plantation house where unluckily we immediately see Niklaus standing in waiting for us and one look at his face I knew he had heard about Hayley being in the Quarter and when we got out he straight away went into a lecture as he unloads the bodies from the car and throws the final body onto a small pile in the front courtyard while he berates us.
"This is why I told you never to leave the house werewolves are banned in the Quarter, I had a plan and your little nighttime stroll put it all in peril!" Nik yelled looking mostly at Hayley before a vampire in which Rebekah had snapped their neck. "Leave him!" he exclaimed as Rebekah had started walking towards him which makes her stop. "You've done enough, don't you think...leaving a trail of bodies like a road map to my door?"
"If I hadn't overheard this lot bragging about werewolf heads, everyone here would be screwed and don't give me that crap about having a plan, you've had all the time in the world to execute a plan and no one's seen you do a damn thing!" she spat back at him making me frown hating to be in the middle of this. "Elijah made a deal to protect your child, so that it could save you from your selfish, rotten self but you obviously don't give a damn about the child or Elijah, because what have you done to honor it?"
"I have done everything!" Nik yells and I let out a sigh. "Let me spell it out for you, shall I...from the day I arrived Marcel hasn't trusted me, from day one he's had his vampires ingest toxic vervain which as you know little sister protects them from my mind control, I needed a spy someone on the inside with me who Marcel would never suspect, so I created a day zero and got there first, Marcel had just lost six vampires thanks to your little murder spree and he needed new recruits so I made the new one mine before he'd had even a drop of vervain but we all know the real way to a man is through his heart, so..." Nik grabs the vampire that's still alive from the pile. "And this one I'm gonna drain him of vervain, compel him to believe his mates found religion and moved to Utah, so that he can explain to Marcel why he lost three more vampires tonight" he starts to drag the vampire into the house with us following him inside. "Does anyone have any more questions...no...good because I have a question" he turns towards Hayley. "Hayley, what were you doing in the bloody French Quarter in the first place?" he asks her and I frown turning to her wanting to know that myself if I was being honest. "Answer me!" he yells.
"Nik, leave her be" I argued since pushing her wasn't going to help, she wasn't our damn prisoner.
"You wanna know what I was doing?" Hayley suddenly snapped glaring at Nik. "I was buying poison, so I could put your little baby out of its misery" she finishes and my eyes widen in shock before my eyes turned into a glare but Nik took a step forward and ran at her with vampire speed and pins her to the door by the neck with her gasping for air
"Nik!" Rebekah exclaims but he ignores her and Hayley is choking.
"NIK!" I scream and run at Klaus with vampire speed pushing him off of Hayley and holding him down by the shoulders hearing Hayley cough and splutters. "Get your hands off her, she is pregnant, for God's sake!" I glared at him seeing his eyes widen in shock.
"All of this bluster about not wanting the child and then the second she tells you she's ready to get rid of it?" Rebekah adds while I turn to check on Hayley still holding onto Nik. "It's okay to care, it's okay to want something that's all Elijah was trying to do, all he's ever wanted for you, all we've ever wanted" I frowned sensing Nik calming down so I let up allowing him to take a seat on the first landing of the stairs and Rebekah sits beside him.
"I gave Elijah to Marcel" Nik tells us and my eyes widen.
"What?" Rebekah asks him in shock.
"Marcel was nervous, it's bad enough one Original returned to town but two...his crew was getting antsy, he wanted Elijah gone so...I gave him a peace offering"
"You bartered our brother?" Rebekah asked him.
"I have a plan" Nik insists. "Gain Marcel's trust, dismantle his empire, honor Elijah's wish that that baby be born, I am executing that plan the only way I know how...if you don't like it, there's the door see if I care" he stands and walks out of the room, I scoff and head after him into the office trusting Rebekah to make sure Hayley is okay.
"Niklaus!" I yell shutting the doors behind us hoping it was limit some of the noise, at least from Hayley anyway. "You ever lay a hand on Hayley again and maim you-"
"Sophia-"
"No, do you have an idea what you could have done, Hayley is pregnant with our child-" he cut me off with a kiss but the moment his lips touched mine I slapped him. "I don't know who you are anymore" I turned and stormed out of the office going in search of Hayley to make sure she was okay since I couldn't deal with Niklaus right now but I found her on the pack patio with Rebekah and saw her hand over one of the silver daggers making my eyes widen over the fact that Hayley had clearly found it.
"Oh, my god".
"I found them under your coffin, so if a couple of antique steak knives were the only things stopping you from getting Elijah back, then here you go" Rebekah takes them in slight awe as she smiles and Hayley smiles back making me smile for a second before I turn and leave them be since I doubt Hayley wants to see me right now and it seemed like her and Rebekah were getting along...unlike Rebekah and I in the start since we didn't get along in the start.
Rebekah had resented the fact that Nik and I were together when he had denied her to love and be with Marcel and I had never blamed her because I never agreed with Niklaus's insistence on ruining any chance she ever had at finding any kind of love when he selfishly had found me which I think was why Rebekah and I didn't get along in the start but we eventually put that behind us.
The next morning I had gotten up early to make Hayley some breakfast piling it all onto a tray figuring I had to talk to her but when I carried it upstairs I stopped at the door when I noticed Klaus in her room already and he was had a vial in his hands and was holding it under his nose to smell what was inside making me frown...had Hayley actually done it...had she...
"I didn't use it" Hayley's voice suddenly broke the silence and I felt a relieved breath leave my mouth.
"You're awake" Nik frowned restopping the bottle and returned it to where he found it before he walked towards the window.
"I could barely sleep all night, this house is like a freaking swamp sauna" Hayley replied as she sat up in the bed while Nik stares out the window.
"What stopped you?" Nik asked her making me frown. "You could have been free of all of this...of me"
"Yeah, well...when I was fighting off those vampires, I...I realized I wasn't just protecting myself and that if I had lost it then I wouldn't just be ruining its life...I'd be breaking Sophia's heart and all I know is push came to shove and...I realized I wouldn't let anyone hurt it"
"And I thank you for that" I announced my presence as I walked in and placed the tray on the bed and she looked at me with a guilty look so I smiled at her since I honestly couldn't blame her, this was all so much and she deserved to want to get out.
"I'm beginning to think we're a lot alike, you and I" Nik spoke up making me look up at him. "We're both castoffs who have learned to fight when we're backed into a corner"
"Well, we're backed into a corner now" Hayley agreed with him.
"Ah that we are, it's time to fight...little wolf" he smiles at her before he backs away and moves to leave.
"This whole thing with Marcel the deal you have with the witches...trying to take him down take what's his, Rebekah told me that you two once loved each other like family, what happened?" she asked looking back and forth between Nik and I making me frown as the two of us shared a look.
"I made Marcel everything that he is, I treated him like a son and when my father chased me and my family from New Orleans a hundred years ago, we believed Marcel was killed, we each mourned him in our own way" I looked down remembering the days I spent crying myself to sleep after that, the feeling that our family had been ripped apart. "Yet, when I returned I found not only had he survived he had thrived, instead of seeking us out...instead of sticking together as one, he made a choice to take everything my family had built and make it his own, now he is living in our home he is sleeping in our beds...that 'M' he stamps everywhere...it's not for 'Marcel'-"
"It's for 'Mikaelson'..." I sighed finishing Nik's sentence.
"I want it all back and if I have to push him out to get it, then that's exactly what I'll do" Nik smiled at me for a second. "I'll have someone see to the air conditioning" he added before he leaves Hayley's room.
"Eat up Hayley and thank you for not going through with it" I smiled at her then hurried after Nik since I was done sitting around. "I'm helping whether you like it or not" I informed Nik as we walked down the stairs, only for Rebekah to come bursting through the front door.
"You were right, the girl Cami...she's the key, Marcel likes her and because of that I got to see the secret weapon of his that you've been going on about" she tells us straight away and I raise my eye at her.
"Well don't stand on ceremony Beks, what is it?" I pressed her not in the mood for a guessing game.
"It's not a 'what', it's a 'who'...a girl Davina, she can't be more than sixteen and I have never felt power like that"
"A witch" Nik growled.
"She's not just any witch, she's something I've never seen before, something beyond powerful and now because of you she has Elijah, who knows what she could do to him" I frowned turning towards Nik with a small glare since clearly he didn't think this one through as usual.
"Where is she?" I asked turning back to Rebekah and she went to answer but then stops to think looking confounded.
"That clever bitch, I don't know" she replied and I frowned since how the hell did she not know.
"What's wrong?" Nik asked her.
"She wiped my memory of the location, Marcel possesses a weapon bigger and more powerful than an Original and you handed our brother to him!" Rebekah replied glaring at Nik. "How many times will Elijah forgive you, how long until his hope for your redemption finally dies?"
"I did what I had to do, Marcel took our home!"
"And our home is worthless without family!" Beks argued as I turned to Nik. "I am finding Elijah, whatever it takes...are you two going to help me?"
"Whatever it takes" Nik agrees and I nod my agreeance since it was time to get involved, it was high time I start helping to fight for our home.
