Sophia's POV
I could do nothing but count the hours, the seconds as I laid in agony able to do nothing to help find the love of my life, I could only remain still flashing though times of consciousness and unconsciousness with being forced to relive some of my worst and best memories from my childhood running around the field next to the Quarry with Stefan and Damon, meeting Nik for the first time and waking up a vampire...I basically had my entire life flashing before my eyes in vivid and lucid dreams that were being induced by the werewolf toxin and remembered Damon going through something very similar when he was bitten.
I hadn't ever really experienced this since this is the longest I'd ever suffered from werewolf venom, Nik had always been close by when I needed his blood to heal and for once I was actually fearing death and the last thing I remember was fighting with Nik and knowing that it was very likely I was gonna get to say goodbye and tell him I'm sorry and that I'll forever love him.
I jumped feeling a cold wash being pressed to my forehead and opened my eyes thinking I saw a shade of blue eyes before I blinked and the image was replaced with Hayley who had been taking care of me and washing down the clammy sweat that was covering my body as it fought to heal what couldn't be healed.
"Hayley"
"Shh, Elijah told me to tell you to conserve your strength"
"Promise me you'll look after her" I breathed out coughing a little from the lack of using my voice for the better half of a day.
"Who?"
"My daughter, I want you to be her god mother Hayley, she'll need you so promise me please"
"Okay, I promise" she replied and I closed my eyes again feeling just the sheer effort it took to keep them open but Elijah's voice quickly called for her and she left leaving me alone to burn up and I almost tried to stand but as if the very thought was exhausting enough and I felt myself sink into unconsciousness again...
The next time I awoke I heard the unmistakable voice of Marcel and as much as it pained me as my entire body resisted against the stupid idea I just wanted to help, if it was the last thing I did with my life and it helped find Nik and Bekah than I was gladly going to do it and so I pushed myself painfully up from the bed stumbling along holding onto things to stay up as I trained my ears as hard as I could to focus in on the voices coming from the other room.
"Find anything about Clara, the mystery witch?" Marcel asked.
"Not much, she was a nurse as the Fleur De Lis Sanatorium, recognize her?" Hayley asks clearly showing them a photo. "Top row, second from the right"
"No, I don't...Marcel?" Elijah asks him but Marcel is quiet. "Marcel, do I need to remind you that Niklaus and Rebekah are somewhere suffering horribly and Sophia is slowly dying, if you know something talk" Elijah warns him since Marcel's silence clearly indicates that he knows something that he's not saying.
"The Sanatorium, that's where you'll find them" he finally answers sounding so sure of himself.
"Are you sure, how do you know?" Hayley asks.
"I just know" he states making me narrow my eyes.
"How do you know?" Elijah asks him.
"If I'm right, you need to know exactly what we're walking into" Marcel replies. "We did something, Rebekah and I...I think the witches are trying to use it against her, it was uh...something that you're not gonna like" Marcel warned him and I felt anger take over the pain of my every step as he explained what they had done, they'd brought their father to New Orleans in the 1919 to kill Klaus.
"For the better part of a century, I have wondered how father found us what foolish mistake that we had made to destroy our time in the one place that we could finally call home, did you know, I even blamed myself for a time Marcellus?" he spat angrily before I heard a thud meaning Elijah likely had him pinned up against a wall by the throat taking a page out of Nik's book for once but I was currently holding onto the railing as my head spun and I felt like I was about to pass out again.
"Elijah!" Hayley yelled to curb his anger even though I reckon Marcel deserved it, he betrayed their trust...he and Rebekah brought the only man that Klaus truly feared to kill him and if I was Klaus I'd be furious and murderous.
"Niklaus treated you like a son" Elijah growled pushing against his throat more. "Rebekah-"
"I loved her, I still love her" Marcel insisted cutting Elijah off. "All we ever wanted was to be together but as long as Klaus was around, that was never gonna happen but hey I guess you wouldn't know anything about that, huh?" Marcel added before Elijah finally let him go.
"When Niklaus learns the truth there will be no end to his rage, I will not let my sister suffer that wrath"
"Then we need to get to them before he learns the truth" Marcel argues and they start to leave and I see them descend the stairs so I shake back the feeling and try to focus my eyes.
"Elijah!" I called out seeing them both look up. "Let me come, I can help" I say but right as I take a step I stumble and would have fallen down the stairs if it wasn't for the arms that grabbed me and hoisted me back up making my eyes meet Elijah's.
"You need to keep still Sophia" he walked back into Nik and I's room and laid me back down on the bed.
"Elijah please, I have to get to him...I have to-"
"You need to rest" he argued before walking to the door where Hayley was standing. "Keep her in that bed by whatever means necessary" I groaned and tried to stand again but felt the strength all but disappear and fell back down onto the bed groaning from the pain.
"Elijah!" I yelled but he was already gone and felt a few tears slip out.
"It's okay, Elijah will be back soon" Hayley obviously tried to soothe me as I felt the cold wash being pressed to my forehead again
"It's too late, just get out of here" I argued since I could hear the veins in her body pushing around her blood and in my feverish mind I wanted it...I wanted to drink as my subconscious mind was telling me I needed to feed but I wouldn't do that since apart of my brain also fought with that basic need knowing it was going to endanger the baby.
"Just hold on Sophia, Klaus will be here"
"Hayley please, you have to leave"
"I can't leave you like this" she protested and I let out a small annoyed growl.
"I'm dead already Hayley, just take care of my baby and tell my brothers...tell my brothers that I love them...tell Klaus that its not his...not his fault-" I felt myself slip out again hoping I actually got the full message out before I did because I didn't want Nik to blame himself for this and I didn't want Stefan and Damon not knowing how I actually felt about them, that even after all these years they were my brothers and that I did love them.
Third Person's POV
"Rebekah!" Klaus' voice could be heard through the halls of the sanatorium while Rebekah moved quickly trying to find a way out desperately while her body was slowed down due to the werewolf venom working it's way out of her system since unlike her sister-in-law she could not die from the venom but eventually she stopped trying to find a way out and turned to face the incoming threat from her brother. "Tired of running?" Klaus asked the moment he found her walking dramatically down the steps in which Rebekah had just descended.
"I know how much you enjoy the chase, I'd sooner deny you the pleasure" she denied breathing heavily.
"Well, then I'll take my pleasures in other ways, no more daggered in a box for you trust me sister you'll long for what the dagger offered, this will be far less merciful" Klaus replied stalking towards her with Papa Tunde's blade in his hand. "How to describe exactly what this blade does?" he held it up threateningly.
"You don't have to do this, Nik" Rebekah begged.
"After I plunge this into your heart you will be immobilized, imprisoned in a state of raw inescapable anguish, time loses all meaning it's not unlike a living hell which I find rather fitting given your treachery"
"Then do it, if that's what you really want" Rebekah shot back understanding her pleads were pointless.
"Are we skipping the part where you beg for mercy, for forgiveness, because I was really looking forward to that" Klaus continued to threaten and leant in towards her face.
"I'll pass, I know better than to think it would do me any good" .
"That's it then" Klaus said angrily turning since he'd been expecting more of a fight. "You concede like a lamb to the slaughter" he turns back around to face her and points the dagger at her. "What would your father think of you now?" Rebekah retaliates by speeding towards Klaus but he throws her off easily since she's still weak from the werewolf venom.
She grunts in pain lying on the floor having fallen through an old part of wall which had crumbled under her weight but she wasn't ready to give up yet and covertly grabs a piece of pipe to use as a weapon before she gets up and goes at Klaus again, hitting him repeatedly with it however he is stronger and recovers quickly smirking with the pleasure as he throws her off yet again right as Marcel speeds in and tries to take down Klaus but is ineffective.
"Just the man I wanted to see" Klaus threatens him as Marcel groans in pain on the floor beneath him. "Rebekah's punishment won't be complete until she watches you die"
"Nik, it was my idea to summon Mikael if you're gonna hurt anyone, it should be me" Rebekah begged for Marcel's life.
"Such loyalty to your beloved, you know if you had offered me even a fraction of the same I wouldn't have to do this" Nik threatens her before he he lifts the blade about to stab Rebekah with it but Elijah speeds in and stabs it into Klaus' chest before he got the chance to do the same to their sister with Klaus screaming from the pain.
"Go both of you, run as far and as fast as you can" Elijah tells Rebekah and Marcel who hesitate looking down at Klaus who is now incapacitated by the dagger yet again unable to move or speak any further. "Run!" he yells at them again and Rebekah and Marcel get away, leaving Elijah with a disabled Klaus in his arms. "Sorry Niklaus but I cannot let you harm our sister, Sophia needs your attention more as she is dying from a werewolf bite"
Sophia's POV
I smiled at sight of the music...smooth jazz and people dancing and drinking up all the available liquor in sight while I stood by Nik's side along with Elijah and a good friend of mine Lana Labonair whom with her help I was able to assist my husband in fighting against the prohibition by a healthy alliance with her kind as equal business partners.
"Well this is a first, werewolves, vampires, witches and dirty cops all happy as clams and drunk as stoats" Nik beamed wrapping his arm over my shoulders pulling me closer to his side and placed a kiss to my forehead.
"You gotta love this city" Lana added.
"You can say that again Lana" I seconded smiling up at Nik who smiled down at me.
"To a new era of collaboration in the face of prohibition" Elijah spoke up handing us all a shot of gin.
"To your docks, their booze and our theaters to hide it under" Lana toasted holding up her shot glass. "You're welcome boys and I'm sure you can thank this pretty thing for the introductions" Lana smiled at me after we all threw back our shots.
"She's right, I shall have to think of a way to thank you personally, in a manner befitting a queen"
"Mm" I moaned running my hand up his arm. "Perhaps you can catch me on the dance floor later" I smirked before I turned to Lana and took her arm pulling her away from the men loving the low growl I heard come from Nik as we walked away knowing what I was doing to him.
I gasped awake sitting up immediately aware that I felt different and reached up to my neck feeling the smooth skin before I became aware that I was on the bed in Kol's old room now which made me frown not understanding what had happened but the fact that I was some how healed meant that Elijah had to have found Nik so I threw the covers off me and stood up.
"Nik, Elijah!" I called leaving the room to find them. "Hayley!" the house was eerily quiet. "Nik!" I called once again but my answer came from that of Elijah coming out of Nik and I's room.
"Sophia, so glad to see your okay"
"Where is he?" I demanded trying to look around him but he was blocking my view. "Where is Nik, Elijah?"
"He's occupied"
"What the hell do you mean by occupied, is he okay?" I tried to side-step him but he moved in my way. "Either tell me he's okay or let me see my husband Elijah" I demanded glaring up at him and he let out a sigh before stepping aside and I saw Nik lying in our bed breathing heavily. "Nik!" I ran to his side and saw the healed wound on his chest but it wasn't right so I turned back around to face Elijah. "What happened to him?" I asked and he frowned. "Damn it Elijah tell me what happened?!"
"He tried to kill Rebekah, I had to incapacitate him"
"You what?" I asked narrowing my eyes at him. "Why was he trying to kill Rebekah, Nik wouldn't do that"
"You were out of it for quite a while Sophia, nearly an entire day and your heart almost stopped by the time I arrived back here with him to get you Niklaus' blood, the witches manipulated him-"
"That's impossible, what the hells been happening?" I asked but then a memory flashed back from one of my awake periods and I remembered. "Marcel...he and Rebekah they brought Mikael here, that's why Nik wants to hurt her"
"He tried to use an enchanted blade on her and would have succeed if I hadn't intervened" Elijah argued and I looked down at Nik quickly understanding why he looked the way he did.
"You used it on him?!" I snarled angrily before I sat on the bed. "Nik?" I cupped his cheeks hoping to get a response but he was either completely out of it or unable to move. "Take it out Elijah or I'll kill you" I glared back at him.
"One moment, do not remove it yourself Sophia" he state disappearing from the room.
"Nik I'm sorry I wasn't there, I'm so sorry" I leant down pressing my forehead against his listening to his harsh breaths and just before I was deciding to pull the damn blade out Elijah returned but he wasn't alone and I sat up defensively. "What is she doing here?" I demanded glaring at Cami who came in behind him.
"I asked her here, you will not harm her do you understand me Sophia" he argued and I glared at the audacity that he thought he could tell me what to do but I didn't say anything as he quickly explained to Cami what was going on and her response only served to anger me more.
"The dagger the witch gave me is inside of him?"
"And every second it remains causes Niklaus untold suffering" Elijah nodded rolling up his sleeves.
"Who stabbed him?" Cami asked him keeping me in the corner of her eye like she was afraid I was going to attack her and while I was starving I was more worried about Nik than satiating my hunger right now.
"I did" Elijah replied making me glare at him again as he moved to Nik's other side as I'd taken to sitting on the opposite side of the bed beside Nik soothing him I would hope. "And now I intend to remove it, you might want to take a step back" he added looking at her as she did as he said.
"Why am I here?" Cami asked him and I looked up awaiting the answer to that as well.
"Well because of all the people that could be here, you're probably one of the only ones he wouldn't immediately slaughter" Elijah explained giving me a look as I continued to glare at him but turned my attention down to Nik as Elijah finally began to take the dagger out by cutting open his chest and I frowned as Nik groaned from the pain it clearly caused him. "Also he speaks of you with what-" I flinched when Elijah plunged his hand into Nik's chest. "-is a rare degree for him at least, of respect"
"Doubtful" I scoffed since Cami had been a pawn to Nik and nothing more.
"I can see you challenge him to see himself and others in a new light" Elijah went on ignoring me and I turned away when I heard sickening sounds of Nik's rib cracking before he ripped the dagger from out of the wound and Nik gasped making me open my eyes to see his open and moved forward closer to his side. "Much like Sophia here, a wonderful skill you two share that I shall be counting on very shortly, you see Niklaus will be weak as he recovers so watch over him and feed him if you would" he adds looking at Cami. "But slowly please and from your wrist" I glared up at her
"Don't you guys have bags of blood in storage?" Cami asked sounding grossed out with the thought.
"We do but your blood is laced with vervain, so it will burn him he'll ingest in slower" Elijah explained and my anger continued to grow towards him. "Perhaps you could use the time constructively, persuade him not to murder his baby sister...both of you" he added the last little bit just towards me while he wiped the blood from his hands like he always did then returned to the other side of Nik. "Niklaus...it was not my desire to bring you pain but I will not see you hurt Rebekah, now I fear Sabine may be making a final move against us I intend to find her and to end this"
"Elijah" Nik called him back stopping him from leaving and I frowned at the sound of his voice, it was unbecoming and raspy being laced in so much pain I couldn't even image and I had just been dying of werewolf venom. "You will pay" Nik whispered to him. "For this" he added before Elijah finally left. "Soph-"
"I'm here" I moved closer and touched his shoulder as he met my eyes.
"Are you okay?" he asked and I frowned understanding that Elijah probably tried to calm him down by telling him I'd been bitten by werewolves.
"I'm okay, lets just focus on getting you better now" I replied before looking over at Cami. "Feed him" I demanded and she frowned but did come closer, while I didn't agree with Elijah's methods I did understand his reasons since if Nik really had tried to kill Rebekah then something had to be done because it wasn't like Nik and I was determined to get the full truth from someone but I wasn't leaving Nik's side right now so I'll get his side of the story first and then decide if I was to stop him from murdering Rebekah.
"Wow, things I never thought I'd be doing...feeding a vampire, my 16-year-old self would think I'm really cool right now" she spoke to herself and I rolled my eyes since all that twilight crap has ruined teenagers these days.
"Just feed him" I snapped cutting off her pointless rambling and she frowned over at me before sitting on the edge of the bed and lowered her wrist towards his mouth where Nik grabbed her arm and bit down. "Ah slow down!" she winced after a couple seconds but Nik didn't slow. "Ok, doesn't the vervain burn?" she asked making me huff since only Elijah thought that, I knew it wouldn't effect Nik all that much but he did finally let go allowing her to pull her wrist away.
"As you may have yet to realize Cami, the line between what brings us pain and what sustains us is far thinner than one imagines"
"Are we talking about my blood or your need to hunt down the people you love most?"
"I'm too weak for one of your talks right now" Nik protested.
"She's your sister, how can you hate her?"
"Because she has done what no one else has managed to do to me for 1,000 years...rip my heart out" Nik explained and my heart broke for him since I remember how it was before Mikael ruined it, how happy we were here and to find out that Rebekah had brought Mikael was a betrayal like no other especially given Nik had finally given her his blessing to be with Marcel.
I laughed at the atrocity in which Nik had just whispered in my ear of what he would be doing to me tonight after the party without a care of Elijah sitting right beside us hearing his every word before we looked up seeing Rebekah and Marcel finally walking into the Jazz Club and approach the bar together.
"Look at these two pretending to be apart while so clearly a pair"
"Oh come now Nik, let them have a little fun" I smiled over at Bekah while speaking to Nik in Aramaic, a language he had taught me and only we were well versed in but he stands up ignoring me so Elijah puts his hand on his arm to stop him from making a scene.
"Niklaus not now, why must you cause trouble-?" he cuts himself off seeing as he too was being ignored as Nik takes two glasses off the table and clinks them together to get everyone's attention before he raises his hand and the band stops playing.
"I'd like to take this opportunity to draw attention to two people who have been sneaking around behind my back together" I watched Rebekah's face drop. "As we move into a new era we require more progressive attitudes to match, so to my loving sister and my right-hand man and best friend Marcel, may they find joy in each other" I raised my eye at Nik but couldn't help smile since perhaps now we can finally all be happy and drink along with everyone else while I watch Marcel and Rebekah are equally startled by Nik's speech. "Enough talk...Music!" he announced and the band starts again and everyone returns to their party.
"I see you finally listened to me" I smiled standing up and kissed Nik's cheek. "For that we can definitely have the fun you so described earlier" I winked at him watching his eyes light up with the prospect. "I don't suppose I can push further and ask for Kol's return as well"
"Don't push it my love" he smirked at me making me smile.
"It was worth a try" I replied as he walks away to approach Rebekah at the bar.
"Over the years I've thwarted your loves simply to protect you, I knew if we had to run again your heart would be broken but we don't have to run anymore, we've found a home" he told her and leans in to kiss her cheek. "Be happy, my sister" I heard him add before he beckoned me over clearly wanting to get started on our night together...
"I'd let my guard down and given in to happiness, more fool I" Nik said as I was broken out of the sheer memory of the happier times and see he was sitting up in bed buttoning up his shirt. "Turns out they'd already betrayed me and brought to town the one thing I'd been running from for centuries...my father"
"Oh"
"Yes oh" Nik grunted and laid back down next to me.
"So you're consumed by revenge you'll never achieve, Elijah implied Rebekah and Marcel could be anywhere in the world by now" Cami replied naively making even me scoff at the mere notion of them fleeing, I knew Rebekah and she was tried of running...especially from Nik and Marcel was determined to bring back Davina so he's not about to leave without trying to bring her back.
"Oh, I'm not so sure about that" Nik spoke what we were both thinking
"They'll need a cloaking spell and for that they'll need a witch" I nodded down at Nik so he knew we were on the same train of thought.
"There's only one place they can go...home" he nodded back with a small smile before it dropped and he closed his eyes making my smile drop at the fact he was still so weak.
I turned towards Cami who had moved to the lounge and picked up a book wondering how I could possibly get un-polluted blood into his system without her noticing since as far as I was concerned Rebekah and Marcel deserved whatever punishment Nik saw fit as I remembered all too vividly what happened when Mikael came to town...I had nearly died and suffered paranoia from the oppression that man brought for the next 100 years of my life as Nik and I continued to flee from him.
"Where are you going?" I heard and hadn't even realized I'd stood up from the bed until I heard her voice.
"I've suffered a werewolf bite Camille and I don't know if you know but it's quite horrible for my kind meaning I'm famished and forgive me but your blood is just too...polluted for my tastes given I need to heal, any more questions that I don't have to answer?" I shot at her and she frowned but didn't argue so I looked back at Nik seeing him resting on the bed. "Watch him while I'm gone, I'll be back in a minute" I told her giving her a look that read perfectly he was to come to no more harm before I left heading downstairs and into the kitchen where we kept the fridge with the blood and grabbed one biting off the cap and drank nearly the entire thing letting my hunger take over.
I had finished two whole bags before I pulled myself together and feeling myself getting my strength back before I grabbed a third bag and tucked it into the inner pocket of my jacket before I went back upstairs.
"You're still weak" I heard Cami say.
"I'm still hungry, there's a fresh blood supply in the kitchen and I have to make sure Sophia's okay" Nik replied so I sped forward and saw him trying to stand up from the bed.
"You won't make it that far so be a good little boy and get back into bed"
"If I had a quid for every time a woman has tried that line on me"
"You'd have like no money"
"I beg to differ, one woman actually finds me quite charming" Nik replied.
"Yeah but I don't pay for it" I remarked moving forward seeing Nik look up at the sound of my voice and smiled a little as I came closer and Cami moved out of the way. "Now get back into bed Niklaus"
"Funny I used to say that to you" he remarked and I smiled remembering those times just as vividly as the rest that seemed to be brought back to the surface of my mind today.
I laughed trying to crawl myself out of Nik's loving arms as he fought to keep me in bed wrapped in the sheets around us as we had our own private celebration of the success he had of building this city up and the fact that the dream of uniting all factions as one community has finally come true.
"Nik enough we'll be late at this rate" I laughed as he pulled me back underneath him.
"Then lets be late, my love" he laughed right before the doors to our room slid open and we looked up seeing Elijah walk in.
"Still celebrating, I see" Elijah smirked as Nik lifted the sheet to cover me as he removed himself from over top.
"Why shouldn't we be?" I smiled wrapping the sheet around my breasts as I sat up.
"Oh well indeed" Elijah agreed.
"Oh and as a gesture of goodwill, from our old enemy" Nik smirked holding up the tickets that I'd been given by Lana Labonair.
"Tickets to tonight's opera" I snatched them from Nik's hands and waved them about like a fan smirking towards Elijah. "...'Les Huguenots'...Lana said they have a soprano to die for, I'll introduce you so long as we bide by my promise not to eat them" I laughed feeling Nik's hands moving up my legs under the sheets.
"Oh Sophia, a good soprano is never dinner" Elijah replied smiling as he sipped at the glass in his hand and I smiled stilling Nik's hands with my own before they ascended too high while in the presence of his brother.
"Tell Rebekah to bring Marcel, feel free to tell her now big brother" Nik quickly tells him as I drop back to my back knowing Nik's signal for him to leave as any. "I have some business I need to discuss with my wife" he patted my ass making me blush a little since while I wasn't embarrassed to be seen in the throes of passion with Nik seeing as we were married, him so openly telling Elijah to get out so we could get back to it was another story but luckily Elijah took the hint and left without saying anything.
"Niklaus you are not to leave this bed since we don't have an opera to get to meaning you have no reason to leave" I said snapping myself out of the happy memories.
"Well you left that time" he argued making me roll my eyes.
"Why am I not surprised you like opera?" Cami spoke up and I turned to her with a glare for the fact she ruined the moment with her voice.
"I always had a particular soft spot for Le Grand Guignol, I like the story it was a-" he cuts off as he rises from the bed yet again making me shake my head at him. "-tale of forbidden love, a 'Romeo and Juliet' of sorts, on the day they are to marry, family and long-festering hatred intervene, thousands are massacred, a father even kills his own child in the final act, I can almost appreciate the irony"
"I fail to see how, our wedding was very happy thank you" I huffed crossing my arms at him which just makes him smile as he completely rises off the bed and comes towards me cupping my cheek and kissed my forehead.
"It was an extravagant and decadent affair love, I didn't state otherwise" he said and I smiled at him seeing his eyes drop to my jacket and realized he had smelt the blood in my pocket so I pretended to hug him and slyly slipped it into the front of his pants covering it back over with his shirt before he smiled and walked out of the room and I quickly moved forward and 'pretended' to accidently trip Cami when she went to follow him.
"Oh I'm sorry" I apologized when she looked up at me before I followed Nik out with her on my tail as we came into the living room seeing him pouring himself a drink and I could smell the small amount of blood he must have added to it but not enough to raise suspicion from the color.
"Not sure that helps" Cami told him.
"Not sure it doesn't" he argued making me chuckle as I took a seat on one of the couches.
"You want to self-medicate your self-pity fine, better scotch than my blood no matter what Elijah says"
"Don't speak to me of Elijah" Nik snaps at her.
"He loves you"
"Yes he does and he proves it time and again, even when my father enlisted him to kill me"
"You keep saying kill but you're immortal, you can't be killed" Cami argued and I rolled my eyes at her stupidity, everything can be killed.
"Oh but we can love...some more than others" Nik replied and I saw his eyes drift over towards me which made my frown grow for the reminder. "And my father was the only one with the means to do it, a white oak stake fashioned by my father to take from us the very thing he forced upon us all...our immortality" I sat up straighter for the fact he just told her exactly how to kill him since I doubt that was smart especially with the knowledge that she had been in possession of Papa Tunde's blade didn't sit well with me. "Elijah has always carried guilt for that night for not stopping our father, I told him not to blame himself when your father wants to kill you, he wants to kill you, nothing you can do about it" I heard Nik's phone vibrate and he pulls it out. "Oh I hate to be a know-it-all, my sister and her lover have been spotted in town so story time endeth here, I'm afraid" he walks over to a statue on the table and knocks it over making it break on the floor and my eyes widened when it revealed the indestructible white oak stake had been inside.
"What is that?" Cami demanded.
"A White Oak Stake, my own special version and unlike my father's, this one cannot be destroyed" Nik replied before he vamp speeds out of the room.
"Shit!" I exclaimed standing up staring at the door before I quickly sped to catch up with him since I didn't even know Nik had that, I don't know where I assumed it was after we took out Alaric but for some reason I just never held the concept that Nik would have it even though it also made sense but now shit was real and I didn't know how far Nik was going to take this meaning Rebekah was in actual danger and I was conflicted regretting giving him that blood now.
I found him on the street seeing him eyeing off someone so I quickly sped over and pinned him against the wall but he retaliated and pushed me off into the other side holding me against the wall.
"Easy Nik please, you don't really want to do this"
"Stay out of this Sophia" he warned me before he sped away and before I had the chance to stop him he'd grabbed a man and bit into his neck tearing it open and I stood by doing nothing since I'd never been in this situation, standing between Nik and his siblings in the matter of him actually wanting to kill one of them and not dagger them.
"What are you doing?!" Cami demanded finally catching up with us and Nik let the poor sod drop to the ground completely drained and dead.
"Well if you have to ask, you obviously haven't been paying attention, I'm going to kill my sister but first I needed some sustenance with a little less vervain in it and a lot more than a blood bag, no offense" he nodded at the two of us.
"When Davina showed me all you did to me, all you took from me I wanted to kill you I even thought about burying that blade in you like the witches asked me to but I didn't, I stopped, I thought, I weighed the good I see in you versus the horrible things I know you've done and I realized if I hurt you, I'd be filled with a terrible regret, you will too if you hurt your sister" Cami tried to reason with him while I was still left stunned not knowing what to do or say in this situation. "Your sister Klaus, as a person who has lost a sibling, who has felt that pain, you won't survive if you're the one who kills her"
"I'll tell you what I almost didn't survive, love...my sister bringing the most vile creature ever to have walked the earth down upon me" Nik argued.
"Yes your father but by hunting Rebekah and Marcel down to the ends of the earth, by terrorizing them the way you yourself were terrorized, don't become your father" she argued back.
"You know I've been called every shade of monster but that's new" he replied and I narrowed my eyes since I didn't believe that, Nik could never be like that. "My father, Mikael was the monster monsters were afraid of, come let me show you" he grabs hold of her and they're gone before I even have the chance to blink but I knew where he was taking her...to the place everything went to hell.
I had just returned from the store having picked up my gown for tonight, I had convinced Nik to meet me at the theater instead of arriving together and was heading up to our room to change when I heard a noise coming from Elijah's room.
"Elijah, you're still here" I spoke calling out to him but someone else stepped out of his room and I frowned in confusion. "Who are you?" I asked stepping back since something about him had a bad vibe.
"I guess you could call me family if you had only married another one of my children and not the abomination Klaus, Sophia Salvatore" he smiled at me. "You will not speak until I say"
"What?" I asked but in shock when nothing came out and for the fact that this man knew my maiden name but before I had the chance to run he sped forward and I felt my neck break before I'd even had time to blink...I shook my thoughts off and sped to catch Nik.
"You know your city's history, that night in 1919 when the opera house burned down on this very spot?" when I caught up I heard Nik say to Cami as he pointed at the building in which had replaced the opera house. "That was my father at his worst" I looked up at the building myself and felt the eerie chill run down my spine as my mind retreated into another memory.
I groaned as I became aware of my surroundings again, waking up from having my neck snapped by that man and immediately started looking around myself for him noticing my hands were staked down by wood on what appeared to be a cross and my eyes widened as I began to panic feeling woozy still but as I looked around for the man or a chance to escape my eyes fell onto Marcel in a reflecting position to myself still out cold and I could hear the distant chatter of people behind a large red curtain.
"Marcel" I called out but no sound came from my mouth making my eyes widen before I remembered the man compelling me.
"...I don't want you to die...yet" I heard the same voice of the man that attacked me from beyond the curtain, over the sounds of the mindless chatter.
"Father" I heard Nik reply and my eyes shot open in shock since the man was his father...he told me his father was dead.
"Father?" the man laughed as if the word amused him. "Still clinging to that word after all these years...a bastard desperate for a daddy, I wonder if your real father would be as embarrassed as I was of you before I discovered you were not mine" oh...this wasn't his actual father, this was his mother's husband as I knew about him being born of an affair hence his werewolf side which his siblings did not share. "I slightly...whoa, whoa" he quickly warned as I heard a chair sliding back on wood, Nik must have tried to stand and I tried to call out but still no sound would come from my mouth. "Easy now boy...don't worry death will come but we need to have a little chat before you shuffle off your immortal coil-"
"And any words we have for each other have been spoken long ago but know this, I'm no longer the animal begging for scraps of your affection, I will die knowing my hatred of you was just, I will fall proud of all I have achieved here, so...Mikael if you're going to kill me then get on with it" I tried to scream out in protest to Nik's words but I was silent with tears falling down my face.
"Oh contraire Niklaus some things remain unsaid, for instance you were right to be proud of your achievement here as I walked the streets, your name was spoken of in reverent tones by the city's finest so after I kill you, I will remain here in New Orleans until every last person who remembers you is dead, the deeds of the mighty Klaus will be remembered by no one and you boy will simply never have existed" Mikael argued before the orchestra began tuning their instruments ready to begin the show unknowing that we were behind the curtain instead. "Ah. the grand show...oh, I made some alterations in your honor, you'll love it" the baton taps as the music begins and I watch the curtain begin to rise revealing Marcel and I staked by our hands to our wooden crosses and upon further looks I saw Lana dead propped up on a swing, her mouth taped shut and a stake through her chest along with the other supernatural faction leaders that Nik had brought to peace while the audience laughs and applauds dawning on me that they were all compelled by Mikael.
"Sophia!" Nik exclaimed and my head snapped up to meet his eyes seeing his eyes wide in shock staring at me while Mikael laughed from the seat behind him before he was suddenly in front of me ripping the stakes from my hands catching me when I fell weak from the blood loss before he then tried to do the same with Marcel who was starting to come back to consciousness but Mikael was suddenly there pulling him away and holding a stake to his throat and I screamed out with no sound unable to help.
"No" Rebekah suddenly appeared and grabbed Mikael's arm with the stake but he merely pushed her away before he threw Nik through the air and he landed through a wooden prop board and I sobbed trying to stand which made Mikael's eyes turn towards me.
"You can speak now" he told me and I felt the compulsion lift with his words and finally my sobs came out as sounds as my eyes remained locked on Nik as he yelled out in pain pulling at a piece of wood that was in his side while Rebekah was attempting to free Marcel but Mikael was quick and staked her with a pole before throwing her back then his eyes were on me and I cried trying to back away.
"Please..." I begged looking at him but he laughed amused.
"You disgust me the most, marrying that beast" he said looming down on me with each second.
"He's not a beast" I protested glaring at him before he gripped his hand around my throat lifting me up, I refused to give up and bashed at his arm to release me but he barely flinched until Nik sped over and ripped him away from me pushing him back but he was straight back up and turning on us with a glare before he turned to Marcel and sank his teeth into his neck. "No!" I yelled trying to move forward but Nik's arms locked around my waist holding me back right as Elijah turned up.
"There's no helping Marcel, we must run" he said bending down to pick up Rebekah before Nik pulled my knees up and they fled with me and Rebekah in their arms.
"The final act of Le Grand Guignol is upon us, where are my players...enough running, children step out of the shadows so we can finish this tale of sorrows!" we could hear Mikael yelling behind us as the blaze that overcome the theatre burned bright in the distance.
We stop as Elijah puts Rebekah down and Nik allows me to stand on my own feet while he rushes over to Bekah feeding her his blood while Elijah hurries grabbing a metal spike of a nearby gate and I try to slow my panicked breaths looking frantically behind us still in shock by everything that's happened.
"Come on, sister" I hear Nik say right as Rebekah wakes up.
"Marcel" she says, being the first thing to come from her mouth.
"He's gone, sister" Elijah tells her and she turns looking behind to see the Opera House in flames, with the screams from those of all the people who are trapped inside...all dying.
"No, no" she cries
"All of you must flee the city, I'll hold him off Niklaus" Elijah tells us while Nik pulls Rebekah to her feet.
"No, we fight him together" Nik argues turning towards me as if checking I was still here.
"We cannot fight him, all we can do is do what we've done, we deceive him, we lead him astray, now I can do that as well as anyone, you take them far away from here I'll find you" Elijah argues back and I frown feeling Nik's hand on my back.
"No Elijah you can't, you can't Elijah" Rebekah cries shaking her head while I lean into Nik feeling myself weaking from the blood loss and he slipped his arm around my waist holding me to him. "This is just...this is my fault"
"No this is my fault Rebekah I am so sorry, I'm sorry Marcel-" the building explodes cutting Nik off as we all turn to look hearing the sirens blares. "I thought we'd found a home here"
"Niklaus please" Elijah begged him before turning to Rebekah. "Sister, come" he hugs Rebekah and kisses her cheek softly. "You must leave, go" we just stare at him and I see a single tear falls Nik's eyes "Leave!" Elijah orders and so at vampire speed Klaus, Rebekah and I flee the city that had been our home for so long.
"And so I ran, beaten like the dog my father believed me to be and as we fled for our lives, he burnt it all to the and with it we assumed, Marcel" Nik's voice broke me out of my thoughts. "I lived but all that we had built died, as did the second last shred of me that felt human, that is what my father took from me that night, I assure you Camille I will not terrorize my sister and her lover for centuries, nor will I humiliate and torment or dehumanize them, no none of that I will simply and quickly end them" he states before he lets go of Cami and vamp speeds away before Cami can catch him.
"Klaus, wait!"
"Leave it Camille, the more you tell Niklaus not to do something the more he will do it believe me" she turned almost surprised to see me. "You will never understand why Klaus is doing this because you've never seen the fear on his face that Mikael brought upon him but I have so I can actually understand his reasons"
"You were there, Klaus said Mikael tortured you"
"Not exactly, I didn't come to any real harm but that night showed both Klaus and I something we'd never imagined" I argued staring at the building in front of us.
"And what was that?" she persisted.
"That I was a weapon, by loving me I had become a weapon to be used against Klaus and one that Mikael would use against him and he did...right before Klaus put an end to the tyranny that his father imposed on us every single day after that night because the paranoia and fear from us both that Mikael would find us again was present every day and he just learnt that Rebekah brought that down upon us right in the moment we were most happy, the moment Klaus thought he was safe...you can never imagine that amount of fear Cami"
"But Klaus is going to kill his sister" she protested and I smiled just a little.
"I don't think he is, as much as family might fight there is one thing that stands strong when blood in involved, loyalty and although Klaus is hurt I don't believe he is actually going to kill Rebekah, trust me since when I found my own brothers...my own twin I had been as angry as Klaus had been since they had lead me to believe they were dead for 150years, they never looked for me, they simply went on with their own immortal lives"
"You have a twin"
"A twin brother meaning you understand since I know you had a twin of your own so tell me if he had done what Rebekah had done, brought you fear beyond anything you could imagine, would you have killed him?"
"No" she replied with absolute honesty.
"Exactly, family bonds are harder to break and when you've been alive as long as the Mikaelson's...it'll fracture but never break, I suggest you go home Camille" I replied before I sped off trusting my judgements that Nik was not going to kill Rebekah...I had seen it in his eyes...he would try but he wouldn't go through with it, not when it finally came down to delivering the final blow and I had trust in Elijah to be there to make sure...this was a sibling matter so I returned to the compound where I would agonizingly wait and hope that my trust was well placed in the people I saw as a second family to sort out their own damn messes.
