Boe left Route 9 behind as he made his way toward Opelucid City. The path ahead felt like a transition, not just in his journey but in the world around him. The natural scenery became more pronounced, with towering trees lining the outskirts of the city, their green leaves rustling in the breeze. As Boe stepped into Opelucid City, it was like entering a place where tradition and nature intertwined. The city seemed to flow with the land rather than stand apart from it, with stone pathways winding through lush gardens and wooden buildings blending seamlessly into the landscape.
Boe admired the beauty of the city as he made his way to the Pokémon Center. After his long trek, he was ready for a rest and to get his Pokémon checked in. As he entered the Pokémon Center, the familiar sounds of healing machines and conversations filled the air. Boe handed his Poké Balls to Nurse Joy with a smile before turning around to find a seat.
Just as he was about to sit down, he spotted a familiar face in the corner of the room. Iris stood near a large window, gazing out at the city with a thoughtful expression. Though her outfit had taken on a more traditional look to blend with the city's natural aesthetic, she still managed to keep her unique flair. She wore a simple, flowing tunic paired with comfortable leggings, giving her an air of practicality. Her signature red cap remained, perched at a jaunty angle atop her head
Boe's eyes widened in surprise. "Iris? What are you doing here?"
Iris turned to him, her eyes lighting up when she recognized him. "Boe! It's good to see you again!" She walked over, her usual energetic demeanor softening slightly in the peaceful surroundings. "This is my hometown. I'm just here to rest for a bit… and to earn my eighth Gym Badge," she explained with a grin.
Boe nodded, taking in her words. "Your hometown, huh? That makes sense. This city feels like it fits you—natural, strong, and connected to something deeper."
Iris chuckled. "Yeah, I guess it does! Growing up here was amazing. The people, the traditions, and of course, the dragons… They all shaped who I am."
Boe smiled at that, feeling the connection between Iris and Opelucid City. "It must feel good to be back home. Have you battled the Gym Leader yet?"
Iris shook her head. "Not yet. I'm resting up first, then I'll be ready for the challenge. But enough about me—what about you? How's your journey going?"
The two spent some time catching up, their conversation filled with stories of battles, new Pokémon, and the adventures they had faced since they last met. The atmosphere in the Pokémon Center was warm and welcoming, just like the city itself, and Boe felt a sense of calm as he talked with Iris, knowing that his journey was heading in the right direction.
Iris grinned as Boe asked her about Opelucid City. "Why don't I give you a quick tour? It's not every day someone gets to see my hometown from my point of view!" she said, her enthusiasm contagious.
As they left the Pokémon Center, Iris led Boe through the winding streets of Opelucid City. The atmosphere felt peaceful, with stone buildings and cobblestone paths blending seamlessly into the natural surroundings. The city's architecture reflected its ancient history, with carved wooden beams and intricate designs that spoke of generations past.
"Over here," Iris pointed to a small park tucked between two large oak trees. "This was one of my favorite spots growing up. I used to climb those trees all the time." She chuckled as she recalled childhood memories. The park was quiet now, with a gentle breeze rustling the leaves, and a couple of young kids playing with their Pokémon in the shade.
They continued down a winding path until they reached a small pond, the surface rippling gently as wild Ducklett paddled lazily across. Iris stopped and smiled. "And here is where I would come to think. It's peaceful, right? I spent a lot of time here after tough battles, trying to figure out what I could do better."
Boe nodded, appreciating the serene beauty of the city. Opelucid had an old-world charm that felt timeless, a far cry from the bustling cities he had passed through on his journey.
As they walked further, the atmosphere shifted subtly. The paths widened, and the trees thinned out, making way for an open space with tall, ancient pillars lining the way. The Opelucid City Gym stood ahead, a massive, stone structure that looked like a fortress. Its imposing presence was softened by the greenery that seemed to grow naturally around it, vines creeping up the walls, and flowers blooming at the base of the steps leading up to the entrance.
"This is it," Iris said, her voice full of pride as she gestured towards the gym. "The Opelucid City Gym. My grandpa is the Gym Leader here, so I've spent a lot of time watching battles and learning from the best."
Boe took in the sight of the gym, its traditional design fitting perfectly with the rest of the city. Despite its age, there was a sense of strength and resilience about the place, as though it had withstood the test of time and would continue to do so for generations to come.
Iris turned to Boe with a smile. "Are you ready to take on your next challenge? Trust me, the battles here are no joke."
As they stood in front of the Opelucid City Gym, Iris turned to Boe with a playful smile. "Hey, why don't you go ahead and take on the Gym first? You've got momentum after that battle with Brycen, right?"
Boe blinked, surprised by the offer. "Me? But you were here first. I don't want to cut in line."
Iris laughed, shaking her head. "Oh, don't worry about that. I've got plenty of time. Besides, I want to see how you handle the Gym Leader! Think of it as a little scouting mission for me." She gave him a wink, her excitement shining through. "Come on, it'll be fun!"
Boe hesitated for a moment but then nodded. Iris's enthusiasm was hard to resist, and the idea of taking on the Gym ahead of her felt like an honor. "Alright, if you're sure."
"I'm sure!" Iris said with a grin. She stepped back, motioning toward the entrance. "Go on, Boe. I'll be cheering for you from the sidelines!"
With a final nod, Boe took a deep breath and stepped toward the massive doors of the Opelucid City Gym. As he pushed them open, he was immediately struck by the grandeur of the interior. The space was vast, with high ceilings supported by thick stone pillars. Natural light streamed in through narrow windows set high in the walls, casting a warm glow on the ancient stone floor.
The interior was a perfect blend of tradition and strength, with intricate carvings etched into the walls depicting dragons and legendary battles. Vines and greenery intertwined with the stonework, adding a touch of life to the otherwise imposing structure. The air felt charged with energy, as though countless battles had left their mark on the place.
In the center of the gym, a grand battlefield stretched out before him, framed by statues of dragon Pokémon on either side. The atmosphere was both intimidating and awe-inspiring, and Boe felt his heart race with anticipation. This was where true strength was tested, and he could feel the weight of that legacy pressing down on him.
Boe couldn't help but smile, the challenge ahead filling him with excitement. Iris was right—this was going to be fun. He took another deep breath and stepped forward, ready to face whatever awaited him in Opelucid City's Gym.
As Boe stepped further into the Opelucid City Gym, the massive figure of Drayden, the Gym Leader, emerged from the shadows. Drayden had an imposing presence, with a powerful build, a long, white beard, and piercing eyes that seemed to hold the wisdom of countless battles. His attire matched the traditional style of Opelucid City, adorned with elements that echoed the strength and history of dragons.
Drayden greeted Boe with a nod. "Welcome. Thank you for coming. I am Opelucid Pokémon Gym's Leader, Drayden," he said in a deep, calm voice. "As the mayor, I've given everything to developing the city. As a Trainer, I've simply been pursuing greater strength. But what I'm searching for now is a young Trainer who can show me a bright future. Perhaps you can show me that future, the way Iris has?"
Boe felt a rush of excitement and nodded, ready to face the challenge ahead. Without another word, Drayden reached for his first Poké Ball and released Fraxure, a fierce Dragon-type Pokémon with sharp tusks and an intimidating stance.
Boe chose Arick, his Krokorok, who looked pumped and ready for the battle ahead. The battle began in earnest, and the air crackled with tension.
"Arick, start with Dig!" Boe commanded. Arick burrowed quickly underground, disappearing from sight as Fraxure's eyes narrowed.
Drayden's voice echoed through the gym. "Fraxure, use Dragon Dance." The Fraxure's body became surrounded by orange energy as it spun gracefully, its attack and speed increasing with every rotation.
Moments later, Arick popped up from underground and struck Fraxure squarely in the chin, making the dragon stagger back. But Fraxure retaliated swiftly. Its tail glowed light blue, and with a powerful swing, it hit Arick with Dragon Tail, sending him flying back into his Poké Ball.
Boe barely had time to react as Selen, his Stoutland, was automatically called out. Selen let out a low growl, recognizing the situation immediately.
Before Fraxure could launch another attack, Boe called out, "Selen, use Play Rough!" Selen charged forward, glowing with a soft pink energy, and slammed into Fraxure. The hit was devastating, leaving Fraxure on the brink of defeat.
Fraxure, desperate, lashed out with another Dragon Tail. Selen was struck and swapped out once again for Arick, who re-emerged on the battlefield, eager to continue the fight.
"Arick, Dig!" Boe called, sticking to their strategy. Arick dodged Fraxure's incoming attack by digging underground again. When he resurfaced, he landed another hit, but Fraxure was ready, whipping around and delivering a final Dragon Tail that sent Arick back into his Poké Ball.
Olive, Boe's Serperior, took his place. Without hesitation, Olive charged forward and slammed into Fraxure with a powerful attack, finally knocking it out.
Drayden nodded approvingly. "I didn't see that coming. You are a very difficult opponent."
With a calm expression, Drayden sent out his second Pokémon, Druddigon. The fierce, dragon-like creature roared as it stepped onto the battlefield, its rough skin glinting in the light.
"Druddigon, Night Slash!" Drayden ordered. Druddigon's claws gleamed darkly as it charged forward, aiming for Olive.
"Olive, meet it with Slam!" Boe countered. The two Pokémon collided in the middle of the battlefield, the force of their clash sending them both flying back to their starting positions.
Olive quickly recovered and unleashed Leech Seed, sending small, energy-draining vines to wrap around Druddigon. But Druddigon was relentless, countering with Dragon Tail.
As expected, Arick was called out once more, and Boe stuck with the familiar strategy. "Arick, Dig!" Arick burrowed underground, dodging Druddigon's Dragon Tail and surfacing with a critical hit. The attack was strong, but Arick winced as Druddigon's rough skin hurt him in return.
Despite the pain, Arick launched another attack—Crunch—but Druddigon was ready. After taking the hit, it retaliated with Revenge. Druddigon's body glowed with a fierce orange aura before unleashing a powerful burst of energy, slamming into Arick with devastating force.
Arick was knocked down, but Boe's encouragement urged him to his feet. Arick growled determinedly, using Dig to dodge Druddigon's next Dragon Tail. When he resurfaced, he struck with enough force to finally knock Druddigon out.
In that triumphant moment, Arick began to glow. Boe watched in awe as his Krokorok evolved into a mighty Krookodile. Boe's heart swelled with pride as he looked at Arick, now stronger than ever.
Drayden smiled, clearly impressed. "Now is the moment of truth! This really gets my blood pumping!" He threw out his last Poké Ball, and Haxorus emerged with a mighty roar.
Haxorus wasted no time, immediately using Dragon Dance to increase its power. Boe knew this was going to be an intense battle. "Arick, Dig!" Arick dove underground, avoiding Haxorus's first Slash attack and landing a direct hit. But the victory was short-lived—Haxorus responded with a powerful Dragon Tail that knocked Arick out in a single blow.
Boe called Arick back, offering words of encouragement, and then sent out Selen. "Selen, use Baby-Doll Eyes!" Selen's gaze softened, lowering Haxorus's attack just before it was struck by another Dragon Tail, sending Selen back to her Poké Ball.
Olive returned to the field, immediately using Leech Seed to sap Haxorus's strength. But before Olive could continue the attack, Haxorus struck with Dragon Tail, forcing another switch with Selen.
Selen, absorbing energy from Leech Seed, charged forward and landed a mighty Play Rough on Haxorus. The dragon took the hit but barely hung on, retaliating with yet another Dragon Tail, forcing Selen back into her Poké Ball and bringing Olive out again.
Olive took advantage of the energy from Leech Seed and launched a Leaf Blade at Haxorus. The two Pokémon collided, and the impact of their attacks sent a shockwave across the battlefield. When the smoke cleared, Olive had been sent back into his Poké Ball, and Selen was back in the fight.
Boe could see Haxorus was on its last legs. "Selen, finish this with one last Play Rough!" Selen charged forward, delivering the final blow that knocked Haxorus out.
Drayden stood in silence for a moment, then smiled warmly. "This intense feeling that floods me after a defeat... I don't know how to describe it." He approached Boe and handed him the seventh Badge along with the TM for Dragon Tail. "You've earned this. Keep pushing forward, Boe. I see a bright future ahead of you."
With the badge in hand, Boe left the Gym and stepped out into the fresh air. He spotted Iris waiting for him nearby. With a proud grin, Boe held up his new badge for her to see.
Iris beamed. "I knew you could do it! That's awesome, Boe!"
Boe couldn't help but smile. The journey had been tough, but moments like these made it all worth it. Now, with only one badge left to earn, he felt more determined than ever to finish what he'd started.
