Everything's kind of a blur. Max returns at Wrestle Dream. He beats down Garcia, which is one of his new favorite pastimes, and he's just revealed the Dynamite Diamond Ring when a familiar theme hits. He'd been expecting it, knew it was coming- Adam himself had told him. But still, it's been almost a year, and static overwhelms him even as he lunges forward awkwardly, yelling at the ramp before Adam's even appeared, then faltering and falling backwards out of the ring once he does.
Max stands on the outside, glaring up at Adam as he stares out at him, then disappears through the crowd, hesitating long enough to glance back. He makes himself scarce, knowing that Adam wants to stay for the main event, see what happens to Danielson- for whatever reason. It's almost nice to be out in the chilly evening air, still trying to wrap his mind around things. He knew it was coming, but it's still a lot, kind of overwhelming. Things are going to move quickly now, as the two of them work to get their story back on track, or as best as they can, considering.
He's not sure how to feel about it, or what to expect emotionally from it all. Eventually, the cold gets too much even for him, and he returns to the hotel room he'd booked earlier in the morning. He sits at the edge of the bed and stares down at his hands, not sure how long exactly he'll have to wait. He's so tired, and still a little chilled.
He thinks he may have dropped into a light doze at some point because when the hotel door clicks open, he jerks up, immediately in a defensive stance, not sure what's happening.
"Whoa," a soft, familiar voice greets him. "It's ok, just me."
Max blinks and grimaces. "Adam?"
"Yeah." Adam walks over carefully, taking his time not to further startle Max. "Are you ok?"
"Yeah," Max mumbles, running his fingers through his hair. "I'm fine. Just, uh. I dozed off, I guess."
Adam nods. "Sorry it took me so long to get back, I wanted to see how Danielson vs Mox went, and, well..." He sighs.
Max frowns up at him. "It didn't go well?"
"Mox is our new AEW champion." Adam's expression is strained, his eyes grim and dark.
Max sighs, dropping back onto the mattress. "Well, that sucks," he mumbles, closing his eyes. "Anything else happen?"
"Nothing really important," Adam says, kicking his shoes off and curling up next to Max. "Damn, I'm tired. Forgot how tiring all this traveling and everything could be."
Max hums, wrapping an arm around Adam's shoulders, pulling him closer. "I'm kinda out of practice too," he admits. "Guess we can suffer together."
Adam smiles slightly, pressing a kiss to Max's shoulder. "Feels like that's our usual," he sighs.
"Yeah, I guess so," Max mumbles, eyes already fluttering shut. "I missed you."
Adam's smile softens, grows more sincere. "I missed you too," he mumbles, reaching over to lightly tug the diamond ring off of Max's finger. "Don't want you losing this again," he says, resting it on the table next to the bed. "Good night, Max."
"G'night," he sighs, melting down into the bedding as Adam snuggles closer, also drifting off to sleep.
