"And that's the story about Uncle's first kitchen disaster," Sabine told Marinette.
Marinette and her mother were enjoying cups of tea from Sabine's tea set she had brought over from China. Marinette loved when they would have tea and talk, just the two of them and her mother would tell stories.
It would be a tradition that Marinette hoped to pass on to her future kids, Hugo, Emma, and Louis. "Say, Marinette? Would you be willing to try something on?" her mother interrupted her musings. "Are you buying me the new designer jacket at Gabriel's?" Marinette asked with uncontained excitement. She was hoping for it for Christmas, but maybe…. Her mother laughed. "Its not the latest fashion, dear, but I think you'll like the story."
"Okay," Marinette followed her mother to her room, and Sabine dug a box of the closet, while Marinette watched curiously from the bed. "Here it is," Sabine set the box next to her daughter. "How about you open it?"
Marinette did so, the smell of moth balls in the air, but she gasped. It was her mother's smock and apron that she wore while helping her father in the bakery, or teaching an art class. "I thought you'd like to try it on, see how you look. Oh, there's the doorbell. Come down when your ready, honey."
Tikki flew out of hiding as Marinette begin to change. "Swapping outfits? Isn't that a bit weird? "Maybe, Tikki. But this outfit has memories and traditions."
Marinette stared at herself in the mirror, happiness glowing inside her. I look like Mama! As Ladybug and Marinette, Marinette admired her mother greatly, and was proud to wear it.
She trotted downstairs to find Cat in the room. Cat blinked a few times. "Princess?" "Yep, its me." "Oh, honey, I'm so glad it fits! Now, go for a walk with Cat."
As they left, Cat asked, "Why are you wearing your mother's outfit?" Marinette giggled, happy to share her story.
Clothes didn't make the person, but in that moment, Marinette felt closer then ever to her Mom.
