Chapter Three

The White Dragon Returns

Starla knew that she was in trouble now. If she didn't find a way to get help, she would freeze to death. She quickly looked around for something that she could use to help her walk. She spotted a thick stick that would be perfect and started to crawl over to it when she heard someone step on a stick. She looked around and saw Anwir.

"Anwir! Anwir, I'm right here!" She called out, hoping that she would see her. Anwir turned and looked at her from the top of the hill.

"Starla! There you are… Stay right there!" The snake called in a honey-filled voice.

"Anwir, my leg is broken! I need help getting up the hill!" The young girl told the older viking. Anwir walked out of her view, Starla thought that she was grabbing something to either help Anwir get down to her, as it was a very steep hill, or something to help her climb up. Just then, Starla heard a quiet growl and turned around to see nothing there. Or so she thought.

"Perfect! That makes this sooo much easier for me!" The witch said, just as Starla started hearing a crashing noise. She looked up at the hill just in time to see a log, rolling incredibly fast down the hill, as it ran into her head, hard.

Starla screamed, hitting the ground hard, feeling the hard earth and smelling the blood that started to rush out of her body. The last thing she heard was the she-demon on the top of the hill laughing like a witch, before everything went dark, and then quiet.

Starla woke up to the sound of Njord's winds running fast across the ground. She knew, before she opened her eyes, that Ullr had sent one of his big blizzards their way and that it would be hard on the village. The village! Starla opened her eyes and sat up. She was in a dark yet somehow warm cave and she could see the blizzard outside. She then felt the pounding headache that she had gotten from the log. She began to rub her head when she noticed the cut from the log, it was, one, mostly healed and, two, didn't have any dried blood around it. Weird.

However, she didn't have much time to think about it as she heard a purring sound from next to her. It was then that she noticed the white dragon that she had freed a few weeks ago sound asleep next to her. She was at first scared out of her mind, then she realized something. The log that Anwir had sent her way had hit her when she was at the bottom of a hill, not when she was inside a cave. She looked down at her clothes and saw teeth marks in a few spots.

The dragon must have saved her. A life for a life, Starla supposed. She had freed the dragon so she saved Starla from the blizzard. Starla, with a sudden feeling of bravery, reached her hand out to touch the sleeping dragon. Starla touched the young dragon's white wings with her left hand and felt the warmth of her inner fire as she ran her hand along the smooth, white scales. She then heard a cooing noise and looked over to see her blue-eyes open.

Starla couldn't help, but look into them, seeing herself in the dragon's eyes. As if they were one in the same. Just then, a gush of cold wind blew into the cave, causing Starla to start shivering. The dragon, knowing what was wrong, moved and laid down between Starla and the opening of the cave. She opened one of her wings, using it as a blanket to keep Starla warm. Starla grinned, quietly thanking the dragon, before laying back down and falling asleep quickly, only shivering a little.

The young dragon had no idea how to help her human… friend, she thought was the right word. She had really ever met a human before this one, but her parents, as they liked to call themselves, had told her that they were evil and murderers. However, after they had left her to die, favoring her bigger hatchmates and siblings over her, her entire flock picking on her for seven years all because she was slightly smaller than normal and because she gained her invisibility ability a few months late, and then a human who had never seen her before, freeing her from a trap, which the human in question may have set herself, really made it hard for the young dragoness to believe a word they said.

Plus, they never even gave her a name. They would just call her daughter, or weakness, or weakling. So, why should she care what they said when she found someone who was actually kind to her. Her human friend shivered yet again, causing the dragoness to worry. She knew that humans couldn't handle harsh weather as well as dragons could and that her human was hurt, but she still didn't know how to help. But that's when she heard a human yelling. She listened for the voice and heard a male voice yelling out the word 'Starla'... or the name. The dragoness looked at her human and thought that that must be her name. She may have no idea how to help her friend but the other human might.

Njord is the norse god of the Sea and Wind while Ullr is the god of Winter, skiing, and snow sports.

Yes, I am using the "Dragon Saliva has healing properties" thing. I don't know who started it, but I have seen it in many different fanfics so I figure I'm good to use it as well. But feel free to tell me if I'm wrong.

Also, please tell me what you think so far, I'm curious.
