Chapter Four

The Rider of Light

Ivar was worried about the heiress. No one had seen her since she left to look for Magnus Dowsing, who had decided to hide in the Great Hall just to be annoying. The blizzard had started before she got back so the chief had been worried sick for his daughter. He had to wait for the storm to calm down before they could go out looking for her. Ivar prayed to the Gods that Starla was alright. She was not only the future chiefess, but she was also a bright young viking with a big yet brave heart.

Ivar wasn't surprised by the fact she freed a young dragon from the snare trap that she helped set up when he was told the story by one of the fishmen who came in because he ate a raw fish on a bet. In fact, neither was the rest of the village, many were curious about how she managed to keep the dragon from attacking her once it was free but still not surprised by her actions. Most of the village didn't really care while others were worried about her not being able to defend the tribe once she was chiefess. A few thought that she was down-right weak for not being able to kill the dragon and thought that she shouldn't be the next leader of the tribe, although none of them were stupid enough to say that in front of the chief or anyone loyal to him.

Suddenly the Great Hall, which was always loud during a blizzard due to the storm banging against the door, fell silent. Ivar looked over at the doors, made of metal and wood, to see them not moving at all. "Open one of the doors! Quick!" The men followed their chief's orders and everyone could see that the blizzard was over, but that another was on its way.

"Quickly! Ari, Guiscard, Freyr! Follow me! Tormod! You're in charge!" Alvin yelled. The three called up quickly, ran over to the chief and started to head out. Ivar followed them after quickly grabbing his medicine bag, but was stopped by Alvin.

"Ivar, I didn't call for you. You need to stay here to help the village." The chief said, clearly confused by his actions.

"With all due respect chief, we don't know what condition Starla's in. It would be best if I came along as well."

"Very well, thank you my friend" Alvin nodded before he began to lead the group through the snow. They head towards the Twin Boulders where Old Lady Jorunn saw Starla heading before she went to the Great Hall. They travel all the way to the two large rocks, calling for Starla the whole way. Alvin had them search the nearby area until they were sure that she wasn't there. The next storm was starting to get close so they headed back, however, when they were about half-way back to the village, Freyr stopped looking down the cliff.

"Freyr?" The chief said, stopping.

"Look at those branches…" Freyr started pointing, causing anyone to look at branches, all of them realizing what he was going to say next. "They couldn't have been broken by the storm."

"Starla…" the chief whispered, just loud enough for all of them to hear, before making his way down the hill. The rest of them followed before continuing to call out Starla's name. Soon they heard a young female voice yelling back.

The dragoness may have no idea how to help her friend but the other human might. But she didn't know if she could get them to follow her so she started nugging Starla with her nose. After a minute or two, Starla opened her eyes and opened her mouth as if to say something before hearing the human voice. She quickly sat up and started yelling "Dad" while the other human voice got closer and started to multiply until the dragoness could hear five different voices calling her human's name. Soon, she could hear their pawsteps as they moved through the five feet of snow.

She moved to the other side of Starla so that they saw the young human first. She then laid down as if to show that she wasn't a threat to her human or the men. She may trust her human, but that didn't mean she could trust Starla's flockmates. A few minutes later, she saw five humans enter the cave, the biggest one looked relieved when he saw Starla, then all five became startled when they saw her. They started to pull out metal stappers from their weird outside pockets, causing her to growl lightly, when Starla shook her head.

"She's safe. She saved me from the storm," Starla told her flockmates. It seemed to calm them for the most part and they put their stappers back in their outside pockets, this calmed her, so she stopped growling and began cooing instead. Starla giggled at her cooing and started to scratch under her chin, causing her to start purring. Starla's flockmates laughed, probably at seeing their youngling turning a dangerous dragon into a kitten, but she didn't mind. Then, they all heard a loud whistling sound that told them the second blizzard had arrived.

"Looks like we'll be staying here until the storm clears. Ivar, check my daughter for injuries. Ari, Guiscard, you will come with me to gather wood for a fire. Freyr see if you can find anything in here that can help us." The biggest human told the other four, making the young dragoness believe that he must be the Alpha or at least high up in the flock hierarchy.

"Yes, chief!" "On it!" "Lead the way, chief!" "Right away!" The four other humans responded, before heading off on their assignments. One of the younger flockmates walked over to her and her human, meaning this one must be Ivar. He kneeled down next to her, his eyes scanning her human stopping at her forehead and her foot.

"Do you have any bad injuries? Besides the cut and the broken foot." He asked her human. She shook her head, and he nodded, before saying: "I'm going to have to put it back into place so it heals correctly. He then hands her something that looks like the stuff their outside pockets were made of. Starla put it between her teeth and bit down on it and then nodded at Ivar. The dragoness then heard a loud crack and her human's muffle scream as Ivar put her human's foot into the correct position. She turned to look at her human's faces and saw Starla's eyes beginning to tear up. She cooed in worry, rubbing her nose against Starla's cheek. Starla smiled and laughed, causing the thing in her mouth to fall out.

"I'm okay, girl." Starla whispered, smiling. The dragon purred back before looking back at Ivar who was rubbing white cloth around Starla's foot with a flat stick on either side. Not long after, the human Alpha and the two other humans came back just before the storm started to get really bad. They started to stack the wood, making a cone, with rocks around the outside. The other human, who had stayed in the cave, started to click two small rocks together, creating little sparks. This went on for another ten minutes before he threw the stones out of the cave in anger.

"Freyr…" The human Alpha started.

"I know, sir! But the wood is too wet! Those stupid stones would have done us no good! I doubt any of us would have been able to get a fire going!" A mad Freyr repiled. The dragoness looked at the angry human and then at the wood. If he wanted a fire, why didn't he ask. She let out a small plasma blast, causing the wood to erupt in flames. The humans all jumped back but calmed at the sight of the fire except for Freyr who growled, and said: "Why didn't anyone think to do that ten minutes ago?!"

The dragoness let out a dragonic chuckle at the human's anger, which caused Starla to giggle and scratch under the dragoness' chin once again. She leaned into her human's hand, purring the whole time. The scene caused the human Alpha to chuckle, before saying: "I have a feeling the dragon is staying." Starla looked at him, a grin starting to form.

"Really!"

"Sure, why not? She can keep you out of trouble."

"I don't get into trouble."

"Are you sure about that heiress?" One of the humans, named either Ari or Guiscard, said, nodding to the blizzard outside of the cave.

"You have a point." Starla said glaring at the human. She then turned to look the dragoness in the eye, before continuing: "You're going to need a name. How about…"

I will probably be posting every week or two from now on. I will try to do it often, but we'll see what happens.

BTW I was not expecting the Outcast chapters, as I will call them for now, to be four chapters. I originally expected them all to be in one chapter. Anway, I think I am going to have 25 to 30 chapters in total, all on the short side but still.

Please tell me what you think. I want to know if there's any suggestions or questions about the current chapters and the upcoming ones on Berk.

Also, tell me what you think Starla is going to name the Light Fury. I have a name in mind, but I want to see if you have any better ones.

Also also, tell me if any of you actually read these notes.
