Demon Lord Jade

Ch 3: Old Memories Make the Saddest Moments

Got a few other fics I have to update. Don't expect the next update too soon.

Neon1311(Ch1): That "error" is a change of frame view point. I jumped from focusing on Tsukauchi to Jade.

TwinstarDragon: Let's hope I'm not too predictable.

Neon1311(Ch2): This is the writing style I'm experimenting with in this Fanfic. That's what I do, experiment with different styles to see what I prefer. Also, haven't you heard of a cliffhanger?

UaraharafanXDXDXD: Mwahahah

Reader20448: Thanks.

Inko looked over her shoulder at IzuJade. Dammit, she still needed to get used to calling her Jade.

Jade had fallen asleep halfway through the movie and was snuggling Inko's side. It reminded her so much of that little boy who often fell asleep on top of his mother. She absentmindedly ruffled Jade's hair, lamenting the loss of those childhood years and the awful things the Demon Lord had done. Inko wasn't stupid. The innocent, heroic child was long gone, and a literal and figurative monster was in his place.

But still, even if Jade killed millions and terrorized a whole world, she was the child Inko carried for nine months. There was nothing that could make Inko hate Jade. Was she sad and disappointed? Of course, but she knew Jade wouldn't change anytime soon, so she just had to accept it. Even if Jade continued doing what she had for centuries.

Inko gently laid Jade on the couch and retrieved the spare blanket from under it. That blanket was primarily used by Mitsuki or Katsuki when one stayed over for the night. There were days that Inko just lacked the motivation to do anything but eat, go to work, and sleep. Mitsuki had volunteered herself and Katsuki to watch Inko on those days to make sure she didn't do anything… bad to herself.

As she draped the blanket over her sondaughter, she closed the laptop and silently headed for the kitchen, leaving Jade to sleep peacefully. Inko wanted to bring Jade to a proper bed, but she lacked the physical strength to lift Jade gently, as she used to when Jade was a child.

Inko began to pull out various foodstuffs and collect them all. Periodically, she would have Katsudon and planned to have it tomorrow, but today was a much better day. It was Jade's favorite. Inko paused. Had Iz-Jade's tastes changed? Did she even like pork anymore? If she did, Inko didn't know. But, if Jade wanted something different, Inko trusted her daughter to tell her.

As Inko began fixing dinner, her phone began to buzz. She wiped off her hand and pulled it out. "Hello, Mitsuki." Inko greeted, positioning the phone on her shoulder.

"Woah." The voice on the line said. "You sound like you're in a great mood."

Inko smiled as she peeked at her sleeping child. "I am, aren't I?"

"What happened? You finally get yourself a boyfriend?" Mitsuki teased.\

"I told you, I'm not looking to date." Inko reminded her friend. "But no, I just had the greatest possible news."

"Oh?" Mitsuki asked. "Don't tell me. You got a new, better job."

"Nope."

"Hm, ok," Mitsuki took a moment. "Oh, you won the lottery!"

"Wrong again."

"Huh. Ok, did you go back to school?" Mitsuki asked.

"No," Inko said as she mixed some eggs to batter the pork cutlet.

"Well, I'm stumped," Mitsuki told her. "I mean, the only other thing I can imagine is if Izu…ku… Wait, did they find him!?"

Inko smiled. "Yep."

"…Holy Shit. That's… incredible! Where is he now?" Mistuki demanded.

"Napping on my couch. Fell asleep halfway through the All Might movie we never saw." Inko told her.

"Well. In that case, we'll be right over!"

"Wait, Mitsuki, don't!" Inko quickly protested.

"Huh? Why the hell not?! Katsuki and I should come to support you and celebrate Izuku's return!" Mitsuki argued.

Inko was afraid of this. "Well… Izuku's… changed." Inko tried to reason.

Mistuki went quiet. "…Changed how?"

Inko took a deep breath and steadied herself against the counter. "Well, Izuku didn't land in a different country. Instead, he appeared in a different world."

"So… Isekai. Izuku, at the age of six, got Isekaied to a world of, I presume, magic." Mitsuki reasoned out from her teenage years of manga reading. "Please tell me he landed in a world that was nice."

"…"

"Inko…"

"He didn't. The world he was sent to, time moved so fast that a year here is a century there." Inko explained.

"How is he still alive then?" Mitsuki asked. "Not to be a downer, but humans…"

"No, I understand your confusion. But I wasn't done explaining. At eleven, Izuku lost his adoptive mother, and at fourteen, was sent to war with a Demon Lord." Mitsuki sucked in her breath but didn't interpret. "In five battles, he was promoted to battlefield commander. At fifteen, he was hit with an irreversible spell that turned him female."

"So, he is now a she?" Mitsuki asked. "What's her name?"

"Let me finish the story. A few weeks from seventeen, a demon bear attacked and killed her adoptive father. In a fit of rage, she and all the soldiers who served under her went against orders and stormed the Demon Lord's base, killing everyone inside and the Demon Lord." Inko continued.

"Well, good for her. Getting back at the one who killed her adoptive father!" Mitsuki praised. Inko didn't interrupt her celebrations.

"Anyways, she was going to be imprisoned but was saved by the King of the country she served in and the Pope. For her actions in bringing down a Demon Lord, she was granted the title of True Hero and trained for three more years," Inko told her friend.

"So little Izuku got to realize his, sorry, HER dream. That's good." Mitsuki noted.

"That didn't last long, though," Inko said, prompting silence. "For five years, she was the All Might of her world, making people feel safe. But as a superhuman among regular humans, people grew weary and feared her power."

"Shit. I think I know where this is going." Mitsuki cursed.

"She was tricked and attacked by soldiers and mages on a false mission assigned by the spineless King. She barely survived and was considered dead, her body left to rot. And for ten years, she traveled around with nothing and no one." Inko said, a tinge of sadness in her voice. "Until she coincidently returned on the tenth anniversary of her attacker's betrayal. After seeing a statue to, quote-unquote, honor her, she lost it and killed the King and his council."

Mitsuki gasped in horror. "Little Heroic Izuku did something that awful? Like, I can understand the anger, but that's way over the top."

"It gets worse."

"HOW DOES IT GET WORSE THAN THE CHILD I CHANGED DIAPERS MURDERING PEOPLE?!" Mitsuki yelled, forcing Inko to pull her head away from the phone. Jade stirred a bit on the couch but remained fast asleep.

"Shhh, quiet, please," Inko asked. "I don't want to wake her. She needs the sleep."

"Shit… sorry, forgot Izuku was asleep. What happened after she killed them all?"

Inko sighed. "She went insane, deciding to abandon humanity entirely. She… did something and turned herself into what she called a demonoid, a being with both human and demon flesh and blood. She then declared herself a Demon Lord and destroyed the country she once served, taking it for herself while killing over two-thirds of the humans there. And for the remaining time, she didn't do anything of note except for getting a girlfriend who was also a Demon Lord. That relationship had to end, though, which is sad."

"Right… sad." Mitsuki muttured. "Hey, if your brat is now a Demon Lord and truly abandoned humanity, do you think she'll...?" She asked hesitantly.

Inko looked down. "I… want to believe that there's good in her, but I'm not optimistic. She sounded so broken and tired that she's practically given up on any goodwill she might have once had. Maybe Jade will act differently? I don't know."

"Is that her name? It's nice." Mitsuki said.

"She said she picked it herself after abandoning the name Izaki. Jade, after the green-colored magic she used." Inko explained.

"…I see. So Izuku is truly gone." There was a hint of sadness in

"…And what's left is a literal and figurative monster. Jade's even self-aware of that fact but doesn't care. I might be the only human she has any compassion for at this point." Inko said. "I'm a failure of a mother."

"NO, NO, NO, NO, Inko, you did not fail her!" Mistuki argued. "You did your damndest to make a loving and happy home for a child you raised alone. If anyone failed her, it was those ungrateful bastards who stabbed her in the back."

"But I-" Inko started.

"But, nothing. Listen, Masaru, Katsuki, and I can come over anytime for *THUD* What was that?" Mitsuki asked after something significant hit the ground. "Hold on, Inko. It's… Shit. KATSUKI!"

"What, Mitsuki?" Inko asked in a panic. "What happened?"

"I think he passed out! He's lying on the floor!" Mitsuki said in a panic. "Listen, Inko, I'll call you back!"

The call disconnected before Inko could say a word. Jade just remained asleep on the couch the whole time.

A recording played off a laptop specially designed for paws. Nezu said nothing, listening to the past of Demon Lord Jade from Lagurdia. It was a fascinating listen; it would have been reality-shattering to anyone else. But not to Nezu. Not to a former Demon Lord of Lagurdia.

Forty-five years ago, a "rat" appeared in the world of Quirks. Whether by magic, Quirks, or an anomaly in space-time, it didn't matter. Demon Lord Nezu was stuck. At the time, it was still a hellscape with All Might not yet the pillar of support he was now. So Nezu, who was without a personal network then, quickly caught up with the technology and started helping in incremental ways, starting with anonymous tips, sending files to police, hacking coms, and directing Heroes to proper locations.

Unfortunately, a villain group captured him, as he didn't have the raw power one expected of a Demon Lord, and for five years, they did horrendous things, leading to a shift in personal mindset. In Lagurdia, Nezu gained a seat through intelligence, whereas nearly all the others gained theirs through power. At the time, he was arguably the smartest of the six Demon Lords, with the strongest Demon Lord being his only intellectual match.

When he first arrived, Nezu wanted to turn Japan into his new territory and bring humanity to heel, but going through those five painful years caused a sense of empathy to grow. He stopped being the cold-hearted, methodical mastermind and became the kind if slightly sadistic, Pro-Hero. And later, a principal, where Nezu found himself thriving the most he ever had.

Oh, sure, he couldn't do what he once could as a Demon Lord, but being the Principal of UA was its own fulfilling role. One where he got to meet so many unique people who were not out to kill him like Heros and other Demon Lords might've. However, he was thankful that Tsuakuchi had sent a copy of this recording. It allowed him to anticipate the first act of Demon Lord Jade.

Jade. A story he was sympathetic to. He had also seen the ugliness of humanity. But where he grew better, she grew angrier. And he didn't blame her. Humanity forced her into the role of True Hero and then hated her for that forced role. She had every right to go the way she did. But her presence here ran the risk of endangering the entire human race if she couldn't disassociate between the Humans of this world and those in Lagurdia. And even if she did, there was no guarantee that she wouldn't squash them all under her boot.

Nezu was still determining how his next move should play out. If he were to directly confront Jade, she would almost certainly sense the magic from him if she didn't recognize him as a Former Demon Lord. He would undoubtedly die in that situation, as even with his experience and knowledge, Nezu was easily the weakest Demon Lord in history.

Could he spy on Jade's mother with his [Spy Mice]? …No. If Jade had any humanity left, it would be for people she's emotionally close to. She would undoubtedly have a subordinate or two keep tabs on Inko Midoriya when Jade wasn't present. But he could at least make some guesses on how Jade would act.

First, she'll likely build a gate between here and Lagurdia. It would also synchronize the space-time of both worlds, as thanks to the recording, Nezu now knew the time difference between here and Lagurdia, and it was too great not to be a nuisance. Once the Gate was completed, she would bring her most capable agents and send out feelers into the underworlds of the various countries. What followed after was unknown, as every Demon Lord had a different way of doing things. She could challenge the strongest of every nation and take over that way. Or she could stage a coup in the strongest countries and control that way. Or even make a broadcast and tell the world she rules them now and swat away challenges as they come.

Nezu couldn't put stock in the idea that somebody would be powerful enough to stop her, especially if she were in the higher tier of the Demon Lord. Demon Lords were split into two tiers of strength. The Lower Tier would be island to continent-level threats; All Might, in his prime, would land solidly on that list. All Might, in his current state, would still be there but on the lower end of it. If Jade were a higher tier, then nobody in this world could stop her.

Nezu wasn't familiar with how Higher Tiers were accurately measured, but he did know that several thousand years ago, a Higher Tier Demon Lord accidentally destroyed the planet nearest Lagurdia. If Jade was near that level or higher, they were royally fucked. What to do. What to do.

'I mean, it's not like I can sow discourse between her and the other Demon Lords… wait a minute!' He had been overthinking this. Demon Lords were powerful and sensitive to massive shifts in nature. The moment they sensed Jade messing with time itself, they'd call a conference, and Nezu could use that opportunity to re-induct himself back into the group. It was easier to bring back a former Demon Lord than to induct a new one. Once he was back at that table, he could counteract her actions and influence more easily, swaying other Demon Lords to his side of arguments. It would put a spotlight on him, but that was a sacrifice he was willing to make.

And Nezu was certain the Demon Lords would notice. At least two in particular would notice. Divinity's Demise, The Fallen Seraphim, Nixes, and Hell's Traitor, The Sin of Envy, Leviathan.

Katsuki sighed as he let himself in. His mother knew this was the time of day he usually came back if he didn't stay for homework. Katsuki hung up his jacket, slipped off his shoes, and went to his bedroom. He didn't have any real friends, as all the Extras at school only liked him for his powerful quirk. They just wanted to mooch off any possible future popularity.

At this point, Katsuki's only friends were all online, as nobody was honest about who they were online, which was fine by him. However, he was very lonely, lacking the friendship all humans craved. That brought to mind the last person he could've ever considered a friend, even if Katsuki was an asshole to him.

Izuku, or Deku, as Katsuki's younger self would call him. At first, Katsuki's brattish self was happy to hear Deku was gone. But as days turned to weeks, to months, he began to miss the intelligent, Quirkless child. It didn't help that Katsuki quickly noticed how fake many people were when dealing with him and his attitude. Eventually, the loneliness got too much, and he confessed to bullying Izuku, first to Inko and then to his own mother.

It was hard to admit to such acts, and Inko refused to talk to him for months, but after Katsuki was forced into therapy and anger management classes, he calmed down and started being a better person. Not that his environment improved all that much. When he wasn't home or in a public area where nobody knew him, people were constantly trying to butter up to him and his power. It didn't matter if he changed schools; teachers and students wanted to impress him.

The whole situation made him miss Izuku even more, as at least the nerd was genuine in praising Katsuki. Later reflection told Katsuki that Izuku could've been a hero, even if it wasn't the same type Katsuki was going to be. Izuku could've been like Nighteye, for instance, an investigation hero. Or an underground Hero, where being flashy wasn't the goal, just to save people efficiently.

Katsuki contemplated being underground, but his Quirk made him too loud for such a role. But he certainly wasn't going to be Number 1. Katsuki didn't deserve it after what he had done to Izuku. Besides, Katsuki still had a temper, and the Number 1 hero made people safe with a calming and charming personality. If anything, Katsuki saw himself more like the up-and-coming star, Miruko. She was only ranked 28th but favored to be in the top ten within a couple of years. Her attitude and self-confidence exemplified the kind of person Katsuki could see himself being like. Katsuki's favorite was still All Might, but he couldn't be All Might, so Miruko was the goal.

As Katsuki walked past the bathroom, he heard the shower running. His mother must be in there. He'll use the restroom after she's done. He slowly opened the door to his room and moved to change out of his school uniform. Once he was done, he knocked on the bathroom door. Hearing no response, he entered the slightly steamy room to freshen up.

A handful of minutes later, he entered the kitchen to fix himself a snack. In the living room, Mitsuki, in fresh clothes, pulled out a drawing pad and her cell phone. The phone was placed on speaker as Mitsuki sketched out new designs. "Hello, Mitsuki." Inko's voice came in clear.

"Woah. You sound like you're in a great mood." Mitsuki noted.

Katsuki, still in the kitchen, absent-mindedly listened in. He didn't care what they were discussing, but he had nothing better to do. "Well, I'm stumped," Mitsuki told Inko over the phone. "I mean, the only other thing I can imagine is if Izu…ku… Wait, did they find him!?"

Katsuki stumbled. 'Wait… what?!' They found him?! Where?

Interest fully peaked; he listened in from the Kitchen. Ok. So, Izuku was sent to a world of magic. That wasn't so bad. Katsuki then took a moment to think more. Wait, if Izuku now had magic, he could be a Hero. But how did Izuku live for centuries? Was he no longer human?

As he continued listening, he heard how Izuku was taken in, lost his adoptive mother, went to war, and was turned into a girl. Ok. That was a shock to process, but boy or girl, Izuku was Izuku. Katsuki was confident that heshe was still the same heroic nerd who wanted to save people. Then, a shock. The loss of her second parent and Izuku's rage-filled response.

When imagining Izuku, Katsuki always thought he/she was the forgiving type—the one who saw the best in others. Katsuki would've never expected Izuku to lash out in a way reminiscent of how Katsuki used to act. 'But I guess… it's to be expected if you've been in war for years to respond angrily.' Soldiers didn't process PTSD all that well, so Izuku's response was completely understandable.

What was a further shock was Izuku being declared a True Hero and going off to fight more Demon Lords. But, she was like that world's All Might. So, it made sense. Izuku always looked up to All Might, so of course, she would unintentionally follow in his footsteps.

"But as a superhuman among regular humans, people grew weary and feared her power." Katsuki stilled. That sounded just like the beginning of the Age of Quirks. Shit.

WHAT TO THE WHAT!? Izuku, the heroic nerd, did that?! 'I mean, I probably would do the same, maybe sooner than she did, but still.' The idea that Izuku could do such a thing didn't physically compute. It was as if the sun decided to rise in the west that morning. Katsuki tried to process this horror, but something else caught his ear.

"She went insane, deciding to abandon humanity entirely. She… did something and turned herself into what she called a demonoid, a being with both human and demon flesh and blood. She then declared herself a Demon Lord and destroyed the country she once served, taking it for herself while killing over two-thirds of the humans there."

Katsuki stilled. Izuku… went villain. The heroic nerd. The one who tried to help others at the cost of their safety. The one who threw themselves in the way to save a Hero. She became a Demon Lord!? Was this somehow his fault? Did he unintentionally set the dominos for Izuku to become a monster?

Katsuki stumbled back a bit, his head feeling light. He tried to remain standing but swayed as static filled Katsuki's ears, and his heart raced. Tried as he might have, Katsuki lost his balance and fell, landing in a solid thud. The last thing he heard before passing out was his mother screaming his name.

An officer's computer screen lit up as a secret bug began to do its job. This computer wasn't unique, as every police department in the country had at least one bug in its systems. It was to be expected when multiple villains had multiple front companies where they could plant all kinds of bugs. In the Hosu Police Department, there were two bugs owned by All For One and a third owned by Tomoyasu Chikazoku, otherwise known as Skeptic, in the Meta Liberation Army.

While it would be a while before Skeptic came across the saved recording Tsukauchi made, All For One had multiple technology-based quirks that allowed for faster information processing than humanly possible. And as he was going through the weekly repetition of seeing what the police dragged up, only to find a recording saved on the network of the Hosu Police.

All For One smirked. Tsukauchi was a close friend of All Might. Whatever he found was high profile if saved in the Police database. Even if it didn't directly tie to All Might, All For One was an opportunist, and this recording could lead to something new.

Boy did it. Several minutes later, All For One was still processing the reality-shattering proof he had heard. He knew he never gave Green Fire, Green Lightning, and Super Strength to this 'Jade,' which meant either someone else with a quirk similar to All For One or outright Magic. Considering he had people dedicated to actively keeping eyes and ears out for other All For Ones, magic was the likeliest situation at play.

Which meant he now had a Demon Lord to contend with. But All For One wasn't stupid. No. If Demon Lord Jade was anything like the fictional Demon Lords, then he was way out of his depths. The fact that she was also centuries older than him meant he would have difficulty outwitting her.

He needed a different approach. His mind drifted to a new Idea. Jade would undoubtedly move to rule the world. The other Demon Lords mentioned in the recording would move to stop her if only they get a portion of the world to themselves. A grin spread across the scarred face of All For One. 'There's my ticket.' He would present himself to Jade as a helpful pawn and get elevated to the official position of Demon Lord with Jade's backing.

He would claim a country or even a continent as his domain and allow her to think she's using him when he's just biding his time. Once he gathers enough power, All For One would move to overthrow her and eliminate her. Of course, he'll have to be extra careful. She'll likely be suspicious of his actions, and the wrong move could signal his death. Maybe a dash of honesty? She might have a way to tell if he's lying.

All For One wouldn't admit the small part of him that was giddy at the idea of officially being recognized as a Demon Lord.
