Selkie was a water-based pro, the Sea Rescue Hero, perfect for Tsu. He could do anything a spotted seal could thanks to his quirk. It made him look like a giant seaal, and he wore a wetsuit, goggles, and all the gear to make sea-faring rescues work. At his side was his main sidekick, Sirius, who Tsu had told me on the ride over had a quirk called "Good Ear". They operated a sailboat for ocean rescues called the Okie Mariner, and waved hello to Tsu as we joined them.
"Thanks for coming out here."
Ryukyu took control of the conversation. "If the ship in question is involved with Trigger, we can't just let it slip away. I'm happy if we can be of help to you and your crew."
"Let's start."
Selkie grinned. "So dependable." He then did something very weird, and scrunched his hands up in front of his face as if he was trying to look - cute? "It makes Selkie happy!"
"Haven't changed, have you, Captain Selkie?" Said Tsu.
"Ah! How are ya, Froppy? Good I hope."
"Yep. Thanks again for taking care of me during my internship."
Sirius smiled. "The captain is relying on us to follow his orders. If we believe in him, then we trust in his course of action. Do you have faith, Froppy? In the captain and in us?"
She said it like it was some kind of inside joke between her and Tsu.
"I haven't forgotten your lessons. You and Sirius taught me important concepts every hero should know," Tsu replied. I wondered if I should have asked her more about her internship.
"You've certainly grown up. Seeing you... I feel...so moved!" Said Selkie, doing his "faux cute" look again.
So not cute.
"Oh, hey, Tsu, I heard you got your provisional license! Congrats!"
"Aw, thanks!"
"You're a full-fledged hero. Then I'm glad you're here. We can see everything you've learned."
"Ribbit!"
"Enough. Fun as this reunion's been, I need you ladies down on the beach."
We were prepared to be given a big patrol assignment, but instead he told us to go ahead, change into the bathing suits available for rental, and have fun.
"Just goof off? On our work time?" I asked.
"Consider it your afternoon off!"
I looked at Tsu and Nejire. They both shrugged.
Well, it wasn't like we'd gotten anything like a real break in months. Might as well make the best of it!
I changed into one of the bathing suits in the shop; they only had bikinis, which made me feel really self-conscious about my body. But hey, Tsu, Hado and Sirius weren't likely to be super judge-y.
"Girls, do you mind if I ask you something?" Said Ryukyu, who was standing guard outside the changing area.
"What is it, Sensei?"
"What are you hoping to learn at your work studies this week? You're here because of the draft this time, not by choice - but you must have thought about some kind of goal."
"I'm just hoping to get even faster with my spiral, so I can keep an eye on Mirio and Tamaki!" Chirped Nejire.
"I'd like to learn how to better protect my teammates, so as to avoid any casualties in battles," said Tsu, probably thinking about our last training session.
"And you, Uravity?"
I thought about it. "I'd like to figure out a way to - well, to make sure I'm never too slow in a real danger situation. I want to become a hero who saves everyone - who makes everyone smile and lifts their burdens, just a little bit, when they're feeling down. That's what I'd like to be - and I'd like to make sure I get just a little closer to that goal this week."
"That's a lovely dream," said Ryukyu quietly. "Take your time to enjoy your rest break today, and get ready for what you have to learn."
"Ribbit!"
"Ha ha!"
"Over here!"
"This is the best way to recharge your batteries."
"Over here!" Called Tsu.
"Coming!" I shouted out to her, as we played the afternoon away on the beach.
That evening, though, it was back to business.
Ryukyu gave us our instructions. " Nejire-Chanand I will search from the sky. Selkie, Uravity and Froppy will stick with you."
"Got it!"
"Prepare to set sail!"
We were surrounded by all the sounds of nautical life as wet set out on our mission.
"Sound off!"
"Mooring rope secured!"
"Engines ready."
"Clear for running!"
"Starboard!
"Clear!"
"Right, Mariner, let's head out!" Called Selkie. "Time for us to get going."
"Are you ready?" Said Ryukyu.
Nejire called, "Yep! You've got this, Number Ten!"
"Sirius! Keep an ear out for Morse code!" Said Selkie
"Aye-aye, sir!"
"Ready, Froppy? Grab onto my back!"
"Ribbit!" Said Tsu. She grabbed on and the two of them delved into the sea. We waited, with Sirius using her good ear quirk to eavesdrop on their activities.
"That sound. I hear the captain!" Said Sirius.
"The smuggler's ship. It's at Point - ."
"The captain is on their tail!"
"Got it. I'm setting a new course now."
Point - , copy that."-
Were they getting away, were we in trouble?
It seemed the villains were getting away, in the plane, with the cargo. And Ryukyu wasn't able to catch up to them in time.
But, Sirius told me, with the proper catapult…
"Uravity. Are you ready?"
"Yes!" I said, trying not to feel ill as I held on.
"Once this is over, let's have another beach day, yeah?" She smiled at me.
"Okay, can we have a barbecue, too?"
"You got it. Here we go!"
At Zero Gravity, I was thrown forward, towards the airplane with the cargo. Time to use my new quirk, my new Deku inspired gear.
I can't rush in without thinking. That's what almost got me in trouble last time. Assess the situation. And make an informed decision. That way, I'm sure to succeed!
There was one villain, in the cockpit; the rest had jettisoned.
" What?" He gasped - too late.
"Gunhead Martial Arts Gravity Plus. I've got you now, villain!" I got him, threw him, turned him down.
"Whew. Uh... uh-oh!"
Without anyone at the cockpit, the plane was starting to - fall.
"Not good. Can I fly this? Here goes!" I grabbed the controls and began turning - but -
"No, what's happening? I'm falling!"
Ryukyu's voice came through the comms.
"Uravity! Pull back on the yoke!"
"The plane! The engines must be stalling on her!" Said Nejire.
Tsu called, "Ochaco, get out! You're gonna crash!"
"No, I can't. If this seaplane goes down out here, then its cargo will leak into the ocean. With these chemicals on board, the whole ecosystem will be ruined for decades!"
"Concentrate. Uravity, make the seaplane weightless."
"Quick!"
"What? But I can't! You want me to float an entire plane? Something this huge would be basically impossible!"
"Are you giving up?" Ryukyu's voice came.
Never give up. A real hero would never.
"No. Of course not."
Touch. Zero Gravity.
Crap. That's insane. It's so heavy, it's too, so -
"Help steer her!"
"Right!"
"Full charge output. Release at !" I moaned.
"This is your chance! Do it now!" Said Ryukyu.
I'm not...giving up!
Every muscle in me was straining; I could feel the vomit welling up in me, ready to come - but until then - hold on - hold on!
"It's good, we've got it!"
Release.
We'd saved the day, grabbed the crooks, stopped the cargo. And I was throwing up for quite some time afterwards.
But still, we got our beach day again. A nice reward.
"Sunny and nice, it sure feels good!" Laughed Sirius. She looked really cute in her bathing suit.
"It's great to see us all smiling together!" Laughed Nejire. "It's always so sad when people just can't smile!"
"Agreed!" I laughed, thinking about my parents.
"Here, Ochaco, catch! Kero!" Called Tsu.
At least for the moment, life was good.
