New Friends

Braylen leaned against a workbench, arms crossed, as he sized up Qui-Gon. The Jedi Master stood calm and composed, but there was a flicker of intrigue in his eyes. "Very astute of you," Qui-Gon said, giving a small nod. "And you're right. The situation on Naboo is... complicated."

Braylen waved his hand dismissively. "Complicated or not, I don't care about politics. What I care about is understanding the people who come through my shop. So, you tell me—who's behind the blockade?"

Qui-Gon exchanged a glance with Obi-Wan before answering. "The Trade Federation is responsible. They've imposed a blockade on Naboo, claiming it is under the sanction of the Senate, though I highly doubt the full extent of their intentions is known by anyone."

Braylen raised an eyebrow. "The Trade Federation? They're cowards. Why would they risk war with the Republic over one planet?"

"It is not entirely clear," Qui-Gon replied. "But the Federation is being manipulated by someone—or something—far more powerful."

Braylen narrowed his eyes, clearly processing the information. "Manipulated, huh? I figured as much. No way the Federation has the spine to make a move like this on their own."

He paced slowly, his boots tapping against the floor. "Alright. I'll hold up my end of the deal. Ani and I will get started on your ship. The parts I have will be enough to get you flying again, but this is bigger than just fixing a hyperdrive." He stopped and looked at the group. "You're in over your heads. Whatever's going on with Naboo... it's not going to end with a simple negotiation."

Padmé, still in her handmaiden guise, couldn't help but speak up. "That's why we need to get to Coruscant. The Queen has to plead her case to the Senate."

Braylen shot her a knowing look. "If the Senate's the answer, you're in more trouble than you realize. But, that's not my fight." He pushed off the workbench and nodded to Anakin. "Come on, Ani. Let's get these parts installed."

Anakin grinned and followed Braylen eagerly, leaving the Jedi and Padmé to consider his words.

As Braylen started preparing the necessary tools and parts, he looked over his shoulder and added, "One more thing, Jedi. Whoever's pulling the strings behind this... they're powerful. So, watch your backs. The Force might not be the only thing you're up against."

Qui-Gon's expression darkened slightly, realizing that Braylen had more insight than he let on. "We'll keep that in mind."

Braylen gave a curt nod and turned back to his work, his mind already shifting to the task at hand. "I hope you're ready to get your hands dirty, Ani," he said with a smirk. "We've got a ship to fix."

Braylen grinned as he tossed Anakin a set of keys, his tone half-serious, half-amused. "We'll take my ship, the Ebon Hawk. Ani, you're piloting. Just don't tell your mother."

Anakin's eyes lit up with excitement as he caught the keys, but a quick look of hesitation flashed across his face. "Are you sure, Braylen? I mean, what if—"

"Relax, Ani," Braylen interrupted with a chuckle. "You've got the skills. I've seen you race pods through tighter spaces. Just keep it smooth and don't scratch my ship."

Qui-Gon raised an eyebrow at the exchange. "You're allowing a child to pilot?"

Braylen smirked. "He's not just any child. If you've seen what this kid can do in a podrace, you'd understand." Then, looking back at Anakin, he added, "Besides, we've got a storm coming, and I trust him to get us through it more than anyone else."

Obi-Wan, standing silently beside Qui-Gon, glanced at the boy and then back at Braylen. "Let's hope you're right. If these storms are as bad as you say, we'll need a smooth takeoff."

"Trust me," Anakin said confidently, his young face set with determination.

As they made their way toward the Ebon Hawk, Braylen called out, "So where did you park your ship, anyway?"

Qui-Gon responded, "We wanted to stay hidden, so we landed our ship in an abandoned canyon, not too far from Mos Espa."

Braylen nodded approvingly. "Good thinking, but you'll still have to deal with those sandstorms." He pointed to the sky, where the first faint gusts of wind could be seen kicking up dust. "If the storm hits before we reach your ship, it's going to be a rough ride. But the Ebon Hawk can handle it."

The group boarded the Ebon Hawk, with Anakin taking his place in the pilot's seat. Braylen stood beside him, offering guidance as the ship powered up, its engines humming to life.

"Alright, Ani. Take us up gently. And remember—don't tell your mother," Braylen repeated with a grin, his voice barely audible over the hum of the ship's systems."Your ship's name, the Ebon Hawk—it sounds familiar, but I just can't place it," Qui-Gon mused, his brow furrowed slightly.

"It's named after the ship Revan had," Braylen replied casually as he made some adjustments on a control panel. "In fact, this ship is a replica of the one she had before she disappeared."

Qui-Gon's eyes narrowed with intrigue. "As in the Dark Lord of the Sith, Revan?"

Braylen paused, glancing at the Jedi Master. "Well," he said with a slight smirk, "she was a Jedi before he was a Sith."

"True," Qui-Gon admitted. "Revan's story is one of conflict and redemption—remarkable for a figure who walked both paths of the Force."

Braylen nodded thoughtfully. "That's why I admire her. She wasn't bound by the restrictions of either the Jedi or the Sith. Revan was... adaptable."

"A dangerous mindset, to some," Qui-Gon replied, "but one that brings balance to others."

Braylen chuckled. "I suppose that's what makes history remember her."

As they walked toward the ship, the hum of its engines softly vibrating beneath their feet, Braylen turned to the group. "You ready to get off this rock?" he asked. Anakin, already seated at the controls, grinned back, ready to pilot the Ebon Hawk through the harsh desert winds of Tatooine.

Anakin smiled, gripping the controls. "Ready!" With a steady hand, he guided the Ebon Hawk into the air, the ship cutting through the swirling sand with ease.

As they soared toward the canyon, Qui-Gon watched the young boy in silence, already sensing that there was much more to Anakin than met the Ebon Hawk glided smoothly into the canyon, dust kicking up as it gently landed beside the Queen's stranded ship. As the engines powered down, Braylen looked over at Qui-Gon.

"Well, I guess we're here," Braylen said. "But why don't you go out first, Master Jedi? Wouldn't want to spook anyone."

Qui-Gon gave a small nod. "Right."

He stood, motioning to Obi-Wan and the others to follow. They descended the ramp, stepping into the canyon where Captain Panaka and a group of guards were already outside the Queen's shuttle, waiting with blasters raised.

Panaka's hand was on his holster as he called out, "Identify yourselves!"

"It's alright, Captain," Qui-Gon called back, his voice calm and steady. "We've brought help."

Panaka lowered his weapon slightly, relieved to see Qui-Gon and the others. "We saw you on the radar and prepared for the worst," he admitted. His eyes scanned the group, lingering for a moment on Braylen and Anakin, before shifting back to Qui-Gon. "Did you get the parts?"

"Yes," Qui-Gon confirmed. "Thanks to Braylen, here."

Braylen gave a nod, stepping forward. "I'll take a look at the hyperdrive myself. Won't take long."

Panaka stepped aside, his guards standing down as Braylen and Anakin approached the Queen's ship. Meanwhile, Qui-Gon exchanged a look with Obi-Wan. Braylen crouched down beside the hyperdrive, examining the scorched circuits while Anakin stood next to him. "Well, Ani, what do you think?" he asked.

Anakin squinted at the damaged components. "It looks like the circuits are fried," he said thoughtfully. "We should've brought BB9."

Padmé, standing nearby, overheard and approached. "Something wrong?" she asked, a hint of concern in her voice.

"Not really," Anakin replied. "We were just saying we should've brought our astromech droid. BB9 would've made things easier."

"If that's all, let me introduce you to R2-D2," Padmé said, stepping aside to reveal the small, blue-and-white astromech. "This guy's the reason we made it here in one piece."

Braylen smiled as R2-D2 beeped cheerfully. "Nice to meet you, R2. Would you mind running a diagnostic on the hyperdrive so I can see the full extent of the damage?"

R2 whirred to life, extending his interface arm and connecting to the hyperdrive. Braylen turned to Anakin. "Ani, would you mind assisting me while R2 works?"

"Of course!" Anakin replied, eager to help. He knelt beside Braylen as the two of them waited for R2 to analyze the problem.

As R2 worked, Braylen spoke quietly to Anakin. "You've got a good eye for this, Ani. Keep paying attention to the details. It's how you'll learn to see problems before they happen."

Anakin nodded, focused, watching R2's diagnostic readout with intense concentration. The beeping astromech soon finished, displaying the results.

Braylen glanced at the screen. "Looks like the damage isn't as bad as it could've been. We just need to replace these circuits and a couple of relays, and we'll be good to go."

"R2 and I can handle that!" Anakin said enthusiastically.

Braylen smiled at the boy's eagerness. "Let's get to work, then."

As Anakin and R2 worked together to fix the circuits, Braylen focused on replacing the relays. Their combined efforts paid off as the ship's systems began to hum back to life.

"There, that should do it," Braylen said, wiping his hands on a rag. "Hyperdrive's good to go."

Anakin smiled, proud of the work they'd done. "Now that we're finished here, you should come to my house. You can meet my mom—she's a great cook!" he said excitedly.

Jar Jar, who had been standing nearby, perked up at the mention of a home-cooked meal. "Mesa love home-cooked food!" he said, his eyes widening with enthusiasm.

Qui-Gon exchanged a glance with Obi-Wan before nodding. "We would be honored," he said, turning to Braylen. "Assuming that's alright with you?"

Braylen chuckled, shaking his head. "Fine, I give in. We'll take the Ebon Hawk there."

"Great!" Anakin exclaimed, his excitement contagious.

Braylen glanced at the darkening sky. "We better hurry before it gets dark. Sandstorms can be unpredictable at night."

The group quickly boarded the Ebon Hawk, ready for the trip to Anakin's home. As they prepared for takeoff, the sense of relief from completing their repairs and the anticipation of a warm meal filled the air.
