A/N: This one's a more lighthearted prompt! Yes, I'm finally giving Chris a well-needed break from all the whumping for today!

Without further ado, let's move on to the reviews and what matters most: the prompt!

Identity crisis... Hmmm... XD

Coincidentally, one of the available prompts for this day happens to be "Loss of identity!"

It's okay, I get that, and there are some fans who used to think Tails was a girl as well. I wasn't one of them, but I can see it.

Super duper waffles

1. In this universe, Sonic. EXE is more or less the same as his role on the real Earth, right down to his role in Friday Night Funkin along with Lord X. Fortunately, not a lot of people take him seriously. And I forgot to mention this last chapter, but Tails Doll is nonexistent as a creepypasta in CoE Earth.

2. I've never played Smash Ultimate, so I don't know how all the fighters play, but I am at least aware of the DLC fighters. With that said, I would say Danny was most excited for Sephiroth and least excited for Byleth, although this is subject to change in case I do get into Smash later.

3. Moth countries either condemned Eggman's actions or decided to remain neutral, although China is the only country that entertained the thought of forming an alliance with Eggman, but none of these plans saw the light of day until after the Egg Moon arc went down because they didn't want to risk damaging their reputation.

Good thing the Metarex don't use bullets! ...Or do they?

I agree, and I love having Sonic dreams so I can write them down and always remember them! The only problem is that I don't have them enough. And while I don't always plan on having Chris pass out at the end of the prompts, it just happens to work out that way, and there are going to be at least two more prompts where he passes out, but that number could rise.

Day Eighteen: Revenge
Alternate Prompt: Finding Old Messages

Chris was sitting on the couch in the living room, mindlessly watching another rerun of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. He wasn't enjoying it as much as he usually did, because something was missing from his life.

In a way, it felt like his whole life was missing from his life.

For the past four days, the house had been much quieter than usual. There was no hustle and bustle of the day's plans, or laughter, or talk of finding Chaos Emeralds or traveling around the world. The table had fewer places, and several of the upstairs bedrooms were bare.

Four days ago was when Chris had to say goodbye to his friends before they returned home to Mobius. He didn't think he would ever see them again, even though Sonic had expressed his confidence that they would.

He would have to get used to his old, mundane life again without the other-worlders. Only this time, he also had Danny, Frances, and Helen, but they couldn't fill the hole that was left behind in his heart.

Everyone had practically become an extension of his family.

Watching the Turtles take on the Shredder became less of a thrill and more of a way to simply pass the time and cope with his grief. There wasn't much he could do anymore, because no matter what he did, his thoughts kept returning to Sonic. He couldn't bring himself to enter their bedrooms anymore because the memories were too painful. And the worst part was he knew it was coming and he knew he couldn't stop it from coming.

Every morning he woke up would be mundane and quiet, just like how it had been before everyone showed up. And he definitely couldn't look out at the pool from his window like he usually did sometimes because he thought of their first meeting.

To him it felt like if Shadow had to live on Space Colony ARK after Maria's assassination.

He heard footsteps approaching, and he looked up to see Chuck entering the living room from the foyer.

"You hanging in there, Chris?" he asked, taking a quick glance at the TV before looking back at his grandson.

"Mhmm…" Chris quietly said. "I still miss them…" At least he wasn't crying anymore, not as much as he did initially.

"I do too," Chuck said. "Working on my inventions just isn't the same without Tails anymore. But even after he left, I can walk away knowing a lot more about his techniques than I did before."

He took a few steps into the room, briefly crossing in front of the TV. "But that's not why I came to talk to you. Come with me, I want to show you something I found out in the garage."

Chris looked up in surprise, but he hesitantly slipped off the couch and followed his grandpa out the door and across the expansive yard toward the garage. The whole time he was curious as to what he had to show him. He couldn't possibly think about what it could be, no matter how hard he strained his brain.

Chuck seemed to be walking fast, which was a sign that he was eager to show Chris whatever it was he wanted to show him. Fortunately, Chris did not have to wait long before Chuck opened the door to the garage and walked up the stairs. Chris followed him into his attic, where he had spent countless hours watching his grandpa code many of his projects in the past several years.

"Here, why don't you have a seat and play the video that's up on my computer," Chuck invited. Chris sat down and held his hand on the mouse, ready to click it.

"What is it?" Chris asked.

"Why don't you play it and find out?" Chuck asked, trying to hold back the smile on his face. Chris shrugged before clicking the play button.

"Hey Chris!" came the voice of Sonic as the video faded from black into the garage. "If you're seeing this, then me and my friends made it safely back home to Mobius. It's been a wild ride, hunting Chaos Emeralds together, twice actually. And we couldn't have done it without you, buddy! Thanks for being a way past cool navigator for all of us!"

The camera panned out, revealing Tails, Amy, and Cream, who all waved at the camera.

"Hiiii Chris~!" all of them said, and Chris could feel his heart melting at how adorable the three youngest Mobians sounded in harmony.

"Knuckles says hi too!" Tails added, and Sonic nodded.

"But yeah, like I said," he continued, "we're probably back home by the time you're watching this, and… and I know how you felt the first time around when you thought we were all leaving. So I know how you're probably feeling now. I get it, it's not easy to say goodbye. Even I have a tough time saying goodbye forever."

"Who said it had to be goodbye forever?" Tails asked.

"Yeah, if Tails can make a portal to go back to Mobius, he can make one to come back here too!" Amy added optimistically.

"I actually plan on doing that, how'd you know?" Tails said, and Amy giggled. "But yeah, I'll find a way to connect Mobius and Earth forever, and not only that, but I will find a way to prevent our two universes from merging too. And also, I'm gonna leave the blueprints for the portal here so you can make your own portal and come join us on Mobius. It may look like it's a little hard to understand, but I designed it to be as simple as possible so you can understand it too. And, um… I know you're probably struggling with us not being around anymore… but I just wanna say, a long time ago, Sonic taught me to believe in myself, and I wanna help you to believe in yourself too. I know you can get that portal done and connect Earth and Mobius on your end. I believe in you too!" Tails finished with two thumbs-ups, and Sonic chuckled; his influence was really rubbing off on him.

"I… don't know if I have anything I wanna add, Sonic and Tails pretty much said everything," Amy said with a chuckle. "Actually, there is one thing. Take good care of your family, Chris! And even if you don't finish the portal first, we'll definitely come back to see you!"

"Yeah, it'll be like a race, to see who can finish the portal first! Your brains versus Tails'!"

Tails chuckled. "If you accept, I sure won't make it easy for you!"

Chris felt tears in his eyes at his friends' words. They thought of everything. They knew that it would be impossible to see him again, and yet they were willing to go out of their way to make arrangements.

"You guys…" Chris whispered in gratitude, tears slipping from his eyes.

"Please don't cry, Mr. Chris," Cream said, as if she knew that Chris would be crying at this point, and Chris' heart jumped. "My mama says that even when friends are far away, they're always in our hearts."

"Mhmm!" Amy said. "We'll all miss you very much, Chris."

"And we'll miss you too, Ella, Mr. Tanaka, and especially you too, Chuck," Tails said, starting to sound slightly emotional himself. "Working on inventions with you has been a blast."

"And Sam, if you're out there," Sonic said, looking at the camera, "I still owe ya a rematch!"

That earned a chuckle out of Chris through his tears.

"But yeah… you guys have been way past cool," Sonic summarized. "We may be going home now, but this is not the end. We'll be back, I promise! After all, I did say you should check out our world, Chris. You're gonna love it!

"We can't wait to see you again, Chris, it's been fun!" Tails said.

"Stay strong, Chris," Sonic said, relaxing his voice. "Everything's gonna work out in the end."

"And even though we're gone now by the time you're watching this," Amy said, "you still have Danny, and Frances, and your girlfriend Helen! You're gonna be okay, I promise."

"Yeah, you got forever friends who live on Earth now!" Sonic said with a wink. "I've seen you, Chris, when you're not hanging out with us, you're hanging out with all of them."

Amy nodded. "And even though I know they can't fill the hole that we're probably leaving behind, just like Sonic and Tails said, you're gonna see us again, either on your planet or ours."

"Either way, you got yourself a portal to work on and friends to hang out with!" Sonic said with a wink and thumbs-up. "I… think that's about everything I wanted to say, what about you guys?"

Tails, Amy, and Cream all nodded.

"So stay strong, take good care of yourself, and we'll see ya around!"

"Take care, Chris!" Tails called, followed by Amy and Cream in unison.

"Chao chao!" Cheese added before the video ended.

As Chris stared at the last frame of the video, he couldn't hold back the tears, and he started full-on sobbing. He missed his friends so much, and yet the video gave him so much hope.

He didn't look up until he felt Chuck's hand gently touching his back.

"I've been wanting to show you this for so long," he said. "You have no idea how hard it was for me to keep it in this whole time."

"Y-You… know…?" Chris asked between shaky breaths, unable to meet Chuck's gaze.

"Who do you think filmed it?" he asked knowingly. "Yep, that was yours truly. I asked them if they wanted to record a message to show you after they left, and, well… their answer was a resounding and unanimous yes."

A beat passed between them before Chris leaped out of his seat and hugged Chuck tightly.

"Th-Thank you, Grandpa! Thank you!" he sobbed profusely, and Chuck hugged him back. They continued their hug for almost two minutes before finally letting go. "Can we work on the portal please?!"

Chuck laughed softly. "I don't see why not," he said with a smile. "Besides, I've been itching to start on a new project anyway. It was very thoughtful of Tails to leave his blueprints behind for us."

And so, over the course of the next few weeks, when Chris wasn't in school or hanging out with his friends, he was hard at work on the portal with Chuck. Even though Tails said the instructions were simple, that only went as far as building the portal itself. Finding and gathering the parts for a power source was a far tougher ordeal, but no challenge felt like it was too great with the infinite amount of hope that Sonic and his friends had given them both, especially Chris, who had dealt with their absence the hardest.

Every day was a day closer to Chris being able to see Sonic again.

A/N: That concludes day 18! This was a tricky one to plan for since I couldn't think of anyone who wanted revenge on Chris for anything, except for Eggman grudge on Chris for finding the first Chaos Emerald in Chaos on Earth. However, since that's not directly canon to Sonic X, I wanted to try to go for something else, so I settled for an alt prompt. I didn't know what to do with "Unreliable narrator", and also, the song prompt "I see what's mine and take it" immediately reminded me of Rouge, but I already did a Rouge-centric prompt earlier, so I wanted to try something different.

Regular whumping resumes tomorrow!

Tomorrow's theme is "Blood Trail!"
