Hi Readers: I hope you guys enjoyed the first part of this new story, one which was entirely new just for this story. As you know from the previous chapter, this is a re-write of another series I wrote in the past. However, it didn't start that way in the previous version of this story. Rather, it was much different. If you want to see how different, then you can find the original on my Wattpad. But for now, let's get to the hospital and take it easy with our favorite couple. Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoy this new journey.

Chapter 2: Snap Out of It

It was one of the benefits of having called ahead: they were able to get processed quite quickly in order to make their way right up to the maternity ward, which is precisely where Gabby needs to be at the moment. More specifically, she needs to be here and checked up on by Dr. Grace Letts, her aneurysm specialist…and luckily for the both of them, she was here when they called. It was something Matt was extremely grateful about, as it was so reassuring to know that there was someone here already well aware of the situation that he and Gabby found themselves in; yet, that didn't mean that he wanted to have her speak in front of his wife. Right now, Gabby needs to rest and take it easy…which is precisely why Matt decided to speak to Dr. Letts in the hallway, rather than do so in front of his wife. "So, what's the prognosis?" Dr. Letts smiled. "Surprisingly good. Honestly, I'm just surprised that I wasn't made aware of your pregnancy sooner. Had I known, I would've been with you guys every step of the way." Matt sighed as he looked at the doctor.

After all, he felt the same way: had he known about the pregnancy, he would've been by Gabby's side every step of the way. "The truth is, I just found out today too. I had no idea that she was pregnant until she came to the firehouse, which is why I'm still wearing my uniform." Dr. Letts agreed with Matt, as that made sense. "Now, is there anything I need to know about this time right now? Like…do I need to watch anything as we wait for her to be ready to give birth? Or are we going to take her now? What is the plan?" Dr. Letts smiled, hoping to give Matt some reassurance that everything will be okay. "Matt, I can see how worried you are; so, let me be clear about something." Matt agreed with the doctor. "I know what you told me in there. You told me that you didn't want this, but she was adamant that she wanted to get pregnant. So, I know exactly the situation you find yourself in." Matt agreed with Dr. Letts. "I can tell you this: you aren't the first husband who was originally against this, nor will you be the last to be in this situation."

Matt nodded, as he could only assume that was the case. "That's something I can promise you, as there will be other women who want to go against their husband's wishes and get pregnant…regardless of the fact that they have a life-threatening condition." Matt agreed, as he knew that was true. "But that's okay, and it's why you have doctors like me. Doctors who are trained in this specific field of medicine, who specialize in aneurysms. We take on these cases, and we make sure that the best possible outcome is what we get. And that outcome is that your wife and son survive. And honestly, I'm glad you came here." Matt was confused. "What do you mean?" Dr. Letts smiled. "If you'd gone to Lakeshore, I wouldn't have all the information I have when I went into the surgery. Not only to I have the new scan we just did of the baby and the aneurysm…but, I also have her old scans. The ones that can show me whether anything's changed. So, that's why we're not taking her right to surgery, okay? It's not because I'm not worried, because I am."

Matt agreed, as that makes complete sense. "But, I'd rather take a minute, review the scans and compare them with the current ones. Then, I can figure out what I need. What doctors I may need, and the best possible way for us to move forward. I also told the nurse that I am at your service. If you need anything or get too worried, just tell them to call me. I'm going to be right down the hall in the office there, just looking at everything. I promise, we'll figure this out as soon as possible so that we can give you the best possible outcome. Remember, I swore an oath to save lives. Matt, I know you trust doctors…you did that in the past when you had your first child. I know how scary this can be, and I promise…we're going to take our time and make sure that everything is okay before we move forward. I'm going to get my team and make sure that we're ready. For now, concentrate on Gabby. Don't worry too much, and just take it easy. I know you guys said that you fought about this." Matt sighed and nodded, as that was the truth.

It was something they decided to tell the doctor, as they wanted her to know that there may be tension. "And my suggestion right now is to let that go. You can't change the past. But, what you can do is help me. If you made her mad or make her get stressed…that makes my job at lot harder; and it may change what type of operation Gabby goes into." Matt was confused when he heard Dr. Letts say that. "What do you mean?" Dr. Letts sighed. "If she gets too worked up…I may have to make the hard choice to put her life first and worry about the baby after. I may have to make that hard choice, where I only concentrate on her and not your child. I know that's hard to hear, but that's my priority. My priority is life. I do no harm. Yes, I know this could be hard and devastating for the both of you. Losing a child is hard, especially when it wouldn't be your first. But, I can see it in your eyes…" Matt sighed. "Yeah. I want to put her first. She's my everything." Dr. Letts agreed with Matt, as she already knew that was the truth and the reality.

When Gabby is in the OR, her life will take priority, which means that they may need to make hard choices. "My suggestion? Make sure that Gabby knows ahead of time that this is the situation. That I'm going to prioritize her life. I want her to know that ahead of time, so that I don't have to feel scared to do my job. Do you want me to tell her?" Matt shook his head, as he could do that. "No, I got it. Thanks for not judging us or calling us stupid for doing this." Dr. Letts shook her head, as that was the last thing she would ever do. "I'd never do that, as I know just how worried you are. My job is to make sure that you're okay. Now, go rest and take it easy with Gabby. I'm going to go get a team of doctors set up." Matt agreed with Dr. Letts. "Oh, do you ever work with Dr. Manning?" Dr. Letts agreed. "Yes, I do." Matt agreed. "She's a friend of mine, and I know she's an OB. If she's available…" Dr. Letts agreed. "I promise, I'll ask her. Now, just go take it easy and let me get to work." Matt agreed and smiled as he watched Dr. Letts walk away.

Meanwhile, he took a breath due to the fact that he was quite scared at the moment; so, he felt the need to take a moment…and luckily for him there was someone here who would allow him to take a minute. "Let me guess, bad news?" Turning his head when he heard Kelly's voice, Matt shook his head. "No, it's good. I mean, maybe. That's her specialist for her aneurysm." Kelly agreed with Matt as he carried his bag over to him. "I guess that means she's going to help you out with this?" Matt agreed, as she most certainly was going to give them a hand. "Yeah, she is. She's really nice and I'm glad that she's going to help us out. You have no idea just how stressful this is." Kelly agreed with Matt, as he could see just how worried his friend was right now. "How's Gabby doing?" Matt bit his lip. "I'm not going to say that she isn't a bit scared." Kelly agreed. "And you?" Matt just looked at his friend, as he should already know the answer to that question. "Sorry, I shouldn't have asked that." Matt sighed, as he was petrified about this. I mean, this is his wife.

His second chance at love. "Kelly, this is just really scary. I mean, we both know that Gabby isn't my first chance at love. I've loved someone in the past and lost her. What happens if it happens again?" Looking at his friend, Kelly decided to stand in front of him. "Ok. Stand up and look at me." Confused, Matt looked at Kelly. "What?" Kelly nodded. "Just do it." Nodding, Matt agreed as he stood up. "Wha…" And that was when it hit him, literally: Kelly slapped him across the face; upon doing so, Matt placed his hand on his face. "What the hell was that for?" Kelly smirked. "It's my way of reminding you to snap out of it. Casey, this is Gabby we're talking about! She's strong, and you know it…and do you really think she needs to hear her husband say stuff like that?" Matt shook his head, as he knew that was true: Gabby didn't need to hear him say stuff like that. "No, she doesn't." Kelly agreed with Matt. "I'm not even married, and I know that's the case. Matt, you need to be there for her right now. Please, don't screw this up for you."

Matt agreed, as he knew that he could do that. He loves his wife too much to screw this up for either of them. "I'm just worried." Kelly agreed with Matt, well aware that was the case. "You're worried? Think about your wife, man. I mean, you could just loose your wife. Gabby? She could lose her life. She could die because of this, and you're the one freaking out? You're not the one who could die here." Matt sighed, as he knew that was true: he wasn't the one who could die here. Rather, that was his wife. She's the one who could die in this situation. "Thanks for reminding me of that." Kelly agreed with Matt. "I know, it's harsh. And don't get me wrong, I hate that I had to say those words…the last thing I want is for you to lose Gabby. I know how much you love her, and the last thing I need is for you to lose another woman you love. But still, you need to be strong for her; she's probably panicking right now." Matt agreed, as Gabby was panicking. "It's why I decided to talk to her doctor out here, so that I could shield her from the fear I have about this."

Kelly agreed with Matt, as that made complete sense. "And I get that. But, you can only do that if you're with her. You need to be in there with Gabby right now, rather than out here. Man, just take it easy and go be with Gabby. You know that everything will be okay at the end of the day. Just think about how nice it's going to be when you finally have the life of your dreams." Matt smiled, as that most certainly was something he wanted: the life of his dreams. He's always wanted to be a dad, and he couldn't wait for that to happen. "I know. Now, listen…you need to get out of here so that I can rest. But, before you go…" Kelly agreed. "What is it?" Matt smiled. "I need to let you know about the name we're giving our son." Kelly agreed and smiled. "A son, congrats." Matt smiled. "Andrew James Casey." Kelly snickered, as he already knew that was going to happen. "I figured that you were going to name your kid after Andy. Either Andrew or Andrea." Matt agreed with his best friend and smiled, as those were two nice names.

However, he couldn't talk about them any longer; not when he needs to go be with his wife, as he wants her to relax and take it easy. "Listen, I need to take it easy and go be with Gabby. I need to update her on what the doctor told me, and I want to just hold her in my arms. Get her to relax and take it easy." Kelly agreed as he went to hug his friend. "I'm wishing the both of you luck. You guys are going to be fine; I already know it." Matt agreed and smiled, as he loved the sound of that: them being fine. "I hope that's true. Now, I'm going to get back in there." Kelly agreed and smiled as he let Matt go, only to watch him make his way into Gabby's room this morning so that he can spend time with her; after which, he turned around and walked away so that he could get back to work. After all, he was still on shift (unlike Matt). Matt was cleared from duty due to the fact that Gabby is giving birth, while he just came here to give him his clothes. "Oh, Kelly?" Turning around when he heard Matt's voice, Kelly smiled. "What's up?" Matt sighed.

After all, he needed a favor. "Can you do me a favor and ask Herrmann if he can get a car seat for me? Maybe ask him to get us stuff for the baby? We got nothing." Kelly agreed with Matt. "Are you guys going to live with us at the loft?" And that was when Antonio decided to show up, not at all okay with the idea of his sister and new nephew living at a loft. "You will live at a loft with firefighters over my dead body." Looking at his brother-in-law, Matt sighed; after all, he knew that this would happen eventually. "Kelly, we'll talk." Kelly agreed as he looked at Antonio. "Nice seeing you again, Antonio." Antonio agreed with Kelly as he said that, prior to walking over to Matt so that he could talk to him. After all, he needed to know just how this was going to work out.

Walking up to Matt right outside his sister's room, Antonio took a breath. "I can't let you in, Antonio. We need to limit it. Hell, you shouldn't even be here at the hospital. The only reason Kelly could come in was because I needed clothes." Antonio agreed with Matt. "I didn't know you were going to be here, so I decided to come be with my sister and make sure that she was okay." Matt agreed with Antonio, as that makes sense; after all, he does like to protect his sister. "Antonio, of course, I'm going to be here with Gabby. She's my wife, and I love her." Antonio snickered. "Says the guy who…" Interrupting Antonio, Matt finished his sentence. "…who had no idea she was pregnant until an hour ago when she came to the firehouse? Who didn't want this because she could die because of her aneurysm? Is that what you wanted to say?" Antonio looked at Matt as he said that. "Wait, you mean…" Matt nodded. "Yep. I had no idea that she was pregnant the entire time. That's the god's honest truth." Antonio took a breath as Matt said that.

And as he listened to his brother-in-law, he could just tell that he was telling the truth: he didn't know until today. "I'm sorry that I thought you knew." Matt agreed, as he understood why he'd think that way. "How's my sister?" Matt sighed. "She's scared, but holding in there. We just saw the doctor, and she's going to work on a plan to make sure that everything goes well." Antonio agreed, as that sounds great. "I'm glad. That's all we can ask for, right?" Matt sighed. "Well, that…and your help." Antonio was perplexed as Matt said that. "What do you mean?" Matt sighed. "Antonio, listen…not that I want this to happen, but…" Antonio nodded and placed his hand on Matt's shoulder, as he already knew where this was headed. "Antonio, I love your sister more than anything…and as much as I want to hope and wish that everything is going to be okay, there's no guarantees. So, I need to ask you to please give me a break. Antonio, I not that I want this…but I could lose my wife and child today if something goes wrong." Antonio agreed, as he knew that.

If something went wrong today, then Matt could easily lose Gabby and his child. "So, if you could just take it easy on me and let me figure this out, then I'd appreciate that. It means that me and Gabby can work things out. In fact, I need a minute with her. I need to talk to her about what the doctor said. How we're going to figure this out. Listen, I get you want to see your sister, but I need to just…" Hugging his brother-in-law, Antonio smiled. "Listen, you clearly want to get changed. How about I say hi to Gabby while you get changed?" Matt agreed with Antonio, as that sounded great. "First how are you? I know you went to rehab in Puerto Rico? When did you get back?" Antonio sighed. "Maybe two months ago when Gabby came back." Looking at his brother-in-law, Matt started to get a bit mad. His wife was home for 2 months and he just found out? That just made him mad, so he decided to walk into her room and looked at his wife as she watched TV. "You've been home for 2 months?" Turning her head, Gabby looked at her husband.

She could see just how mad her husband was after learning that she's been home for two months. Though, she didn't blame him. Of course, he'd be mad now that he knew she was home for two months…nor did she blame her brother for telling him, as he had no idea what she told him. She's just glad that Matt didn't yell at her while she took it easy in bed; rather, he went to the washroom to get changed into something more comfortable since they may be here for a while. Meanwhile, Antonio looked at his sister and took a breath; after all, the last thing he ever wanted to do was screw things up for her. "Gabby, I'm sorry about this. I hate that I may have screwed things up for you and Matt." Gabby shook her head, as it wasn't his fault. "It's not your fault. I'm the one who neglected to tell him that I was home for the past couple months. I was going to tell him, I promise." Antonio agreed with his sister. "And I already know he's going to understand when he comes to realize that it was a good idea. I mean, I didn't know how he'd react."

Antonio agreed with his sister as he proceeded to sit down on the edge of her bed and grabbed her hand. "You're right. You didn't know how he would react to the news that you were pregnant. Speaking of which, how is my little nephew?" Gabby smiled as she felt her brother place his hand on her stomach. "So far, he's good in there. He's calm and taking it easy. The doctor just filled us in on her ideas." Antonio agreed. "Do they think that you're going to be okay at the end of the surgery?" Hearing Antonio say that from the washroom, Matt snapped at him. "ANTONIO!" Hearing Matt say that, Antonio knew right away that he screwed up. "Uhm…" Walking out of the washroom in his sweats, Matt looked at his brother-in-law. "Don't make me kick you out of here and not let you meet your nephew until he's home." Putting his hands up, Antonio agreed with Matt. After all, he wants to be here for them. "Right, sorry." Putting his shirt on this morning, Matt looked at Gabby. "You okay?" Gabby agreed with her husband. "Are we okay?"

Matt took a breath as he walked up to the woman he loves. After which, he grabbed her hand and smiled as he looked into her eyes. "I promise, I can forgive you. I know why you didn't tell me. You were scared and didn't know how I would react to the news that you were pregnant." Gabby agreed with her husband, as that was precisely why she didn't tell him: she didn't know how he would react to the news that she was expecting their first child. "I promise, that's all it was. I was just scared, and I wanted to tell you more than anything." Matt agreed with Gabby and took a breath, only to sit down with her and place his hand on her stomach. "All that matters at the end of the day is that we're together now. We're going to be together for the rest of our lives, I promise. We're in this together." Gabby agreed with Matt and took a breath. "That is, if I survive." Matt shook his head, as he didn't want to hear Gabby say that. "Hey, you're going to survive. We have a great medical team, and they're going to make sure that you survive." Gabby agreed.

After which, she placed her hand on top of his and smiled at him. "Though, Gabby…if you'd told me sooner, we could've had this set up already. Hell, we may already be parents. So, I can't help but wonder…why didn't you tell me that you were pregnant?" Taking a breath as Matt asked her why she didn't tell him that she wasn't pregnant, Gabby soon teared up and told him the truth.

"I was scared that you'd make me have an abortion."
