Psychopaths (SCREAM 1)
Chapter 3
It was finally lunchtime so I made my way to the fountain in the schoolyard. Walking up I immediately noticed Sidney sitting on the fountain leaning against Billy and Tatum against Stu.
Billy was the first to notice me, he leaned up a little, licking his lips with a smirk.
Tatum sees me too and immediately jumps out of Stu's arms and into mine. Sidney leans up and closes her binder. "Hi, Amara."
I forced a smile but said nothing. I've been told in the past you could tell by my tone when I didn't like someone.
Tatum sits back down next to Stu and pulls me down beside her. I took out my container of fruit and fed her a strawberry.
"Fuck make out already." Stu groaned, his eyes screaming with excitement looking at us. Tatum laughs as a light blush hits her cheeks before she hits Stu in the chest. Billy kisses Sidney's cheek as he moves from behind her to sit next to me, he gives me a charming smile before taking grapes from my container.
"Thief," I shove him playfully only for him to respond by leaning in and popping more grapes into his mouth. Weirdly, he's being nice to me. We left on bad terms. Between his sudden interest in Sidney then the drama between my mom and dad. I thought leaving was the best choice of course I was wrong.
"They asked you if you like to hunt. Why?" Tatum asked, popping a grape into her mouth.
Stu leans up thinking for a moment before answering. "I'm not sure," he replies while taking a strawberry from my hand that I was gonna eat. "They just did."
"Is everyone eating my food now?" I mumbled, irritated, putting my arm over the container.
"That's because their bodies were gutted!" Randy yells jumping from behind the fountain, making me jump back into Billy. He grabs my waist and I stiffen feeling butterflies. I suddenly have the urge to run away from him but His hand tightens. "Oh my God, Mara! Your back?!" Randy questions excitedly confused.
I laugh before trying to move to get up and hug him, but Billy squeezes my waist hard, not letting me go. "Yeah she's back," he answers a little smugly.
Randy scratches the back of his neck as he hands Billy a brown bag that he snatches immediately. Randy then goes to sit at the edge of the fountain next to Stu. Billy digs in the bag pulling out a sandwich that I immediately snatched from him. "Stop being rude." I scold.
Billy raises an eyebrow at me, I just stick my tongue out back at him. He smiles then grabs the sandwich splitting it in half and giving me a piece.
"They didn't ask me if I like to hunt," Sidney says looking up from her binder and trying to go back to the conversation.
"Because there's no way a girl could have killed them," Stu says laughing like it was the biggest joke in the world.
"That is so sexist," Tatum snaps at Stu. "The killer could've been female. Basic instinct." She said as a fact.
I nod my head viciously as I finish my sandwich. "I agree with Tatum, with the right motivation a woman could easily kill a man." Tatum and Sidney nod their heads agreeing with me as the boys roll their eyes.
"My god having a period, that's enough to push any woman to murder," I say dead serious. The boys laugh as we give them serious looks not getting what's funny.
I gazed at the new sign posted at the entrance of the school stating curfew is now nine pm, I scoffed knowing no teen would listen to that.
"How do you gut someone?." Sidney says out of nowhere deep in thought. I assumed Billy would move away from me to comfort his girlfriend but when I looked up at him, he was already staring at me.
"You take a knife and slit from the groin to the sternum," Stu answered doing the actions with his hands.
My eyes widened at his response, not expecting someone to answer. Billy gives Stu a dark look while everyone else glares at him giving him judging looks.
"What? She asked!" Stu tried to defend himself by putting his hands up.
"It's called tact, you fuckrag," Billy replies,
I bite my lip trying not to laugh. Stu nudges my head making me pout at him.
"Hey Stu, didn't you date Casey?" Sidney asked curiously, holding her binder to her chest.
Stu looked around nervously as their eyes were on him. "Yeah for about two seconds," he replies, wrapping his arm back around Tatum. I frowned at his response, I knew they dated at least over a year.
"That was before she dumped him for dear old Steve though right? After he was just dumped by Mara." I tense at his name and try not to show emotion hearing his name. I wasn't gonna say it out loud but I was glad he was dead, for what he tried to do to me he deserved it. "We never dated, it was a rumor"
Tatum eyes Stu evilly moving his arm from around her. "I thought you dumped her for me."
"I did" he defended as he glared at Randy. "He's full of shit." I knew Stu cared for Casey and he was serious when it came to their relationship but Casey just wasn't
"You forgave Casey for dating your ex?" Randy asks me.
"Again not my ex, that's who she wanted, I can't control that," I responded unbothered.
"Interesting well, how is it possible you show hours before Casey's killed." He questions me again.
"Randy enough," Sidney says, shocking me. I didn't expect her to stick up for me.
"Do I need a lawyer? I'd tread carefully with your next question," I warned in a serious tone as I stood up.
"Just saying, are the police even aware you both dated the victims?" He questioned pointing at Stu and me.
Billy leans up more on the fountain glaring at Randy. "Back off Randy." He warns in a serious deadly tone that sends shivers down my spine. His fists squeezed tight.
Stu gets up standing in front of me. "So you're trying to say we killed them." He was offended, pointing between both of us with fake shock.
"I'm just saying it's weird he left Amara alive. And that she showed up back in town hours before the murders." Stu steps closer to Randy almost in his face but Tatum gets between them.
"Come on baby, ignore him." She pleaded, trying to pull him back down.
"Stu was with me Saturday night," she adds before kissing his cheek and rubbing his arm.
"Oh," Randy sighed with mock understanding. "Was that before or after he sliced and diced."
"Fuck you nut case," Billy said getting up and pulling me back down next to him, he massages his thumb into my hand making me relax, as he questions Randy. "Where were you Saturday?"
"Working thank you very much," Randy says grinning proudly.
"I thought you were fired," Tatum says laughing. "Twice, "Randy replies smugly.
"I didn't kill anyone," Stu says out of nowhere. Billy eyes Stu darkly as I rub his arm for comfort. "No one's saying you did,"
"Besides, takes a man to do something like that," Randy says in a Stu-mimicking way.
"Well, that rules you out as the killer," Billy says cockily as he fist-bumps Stu laughing.
"Hey, Stu did you put the liver in a mailbox? I hear they found her liver in the mailbox." I stop eating my grapes feeling nauseous. Tatum groans, "Randy you goon-fuck we're eating."
"Not anymore," I say, closing my fruit container.
"Yeah, Randy, they're getting mad. I think you better liver alone." Stu says cracking up at his joke while everyone groans.
Sidney, now uncomfortable, gets up, "I'm gonna see you guys later." She goes to walk away then stops and comes back.
"Amara I hope we can catch up soon." She bends down handing me a paper. "This has all our numbers." She says smiling before walking away.
At that moment I tried hard not to hate her but I still did. I tried to hate her mom more since it's her fault but the fact that she defends the woman pisses me off. I fold the paper and put it in my purse. I feel distant eyes on me. I follow the feeling of finding a boy with glasses and dark hair staring at me as he writes in his notebook. When he realizes he's been caught he quickly walks away. My eyes stay on him until Billy suddenly hits Stu in his head. "Ow," Stu held his head in pain. "Why?"
"Really? Liver alone." Billy says, I bite my lip trying not to laugh. God, I missed this, I have almost everything I've wanted. I looked at Billy and felt my heart crack.
Well, almost everything.
A loud horn is blown from the curb. I looked to see it was Dewey. Tatum stood up groaning seeing her brother's car and kissed Stu on the cheek. "Wanna ride Mara? Gotta go home and change forgot my cheer uniform" I shake my head standing up" Can't abandon Roscoe"
Tatum laughs pulling me into a tight hug. "I'm so glad you're back, you're getting back on the team."
Before I could reply another loud honk was made. "I'm coming!" She signals me to call her as she runs to the patrol car. I pick up my bag but pause feeling a large presence over her. I turned to see Stu and Billy looking down at me both faces serious.
"Uh hi," I say, confused by why they were so close to me.
"Who's Roscoe?" Billy asks his voice serious I start to laugh but stop when not even Stu isn't laughing with me. "You're serious," I ask, crossing my arms.
Billy steps closer getting into my space and looking down at me. "Dead serious."I try to laugh off how nervous and turned on his presence makes me. I grab his hand leading him toward the parking lot. "Come on, you guys can meet him."
We headed toward the parking lot, Randy abandoned us since he had to work. I lead them to my dark blue jeep patting it "Roscoe meet Stu and Billy. Boys this is Roscoe."
Stu starts dying of laughter while Billy gives me a cocky smile before crossing his arms. "Could've said it was a car," I hopped in grabbed a joint out of the cup holder held it up for them to see, and gestured for them to get in. "What's the fun in that," I reply.
"Did I mention I missed you?" Stu says, staring at the blunt in longing before hopping in the back as Billy gets in the front.
I start to grab my lighter but Billy grabs it for me and sparks it while it's between my lips.
I take a long drag of the blunt keeping eye contact before exhaling happily smiling at Billy he stared at me back, then at my lips.
"Fuck, can you roll down the windows the tension is killing me?" Stu says fanning himself.
I laugh hitting the blunt a final time before passing it to Billy. "Let's go to my place, watch a scary movie, and order a pizza like old times. Please!" I begged to give them pleading eyes.
"Okay," Billy says not hesitating.
"You had me at Scary Movie," Stu says taking the joint from Billy and inhaling it as we pulled out of the parking lot and headed to my house.
