Chapter 1
June 5th/2010
Wu Shi Academy/China
Learning martial arts proved to be difficult for Reily since it wasn't a skill set naturally given to his class. However, with enough practice and effort he managed to pick up the trait [Martial Arts] trait which unlocked the possible class change to a monk.
Reily also learned that leveling up his class required him to perform enough feats befitting of the class instead of simply gaining a level up normally. Hence why he put more effort into his training as he is currently getting used to his magic or more specifically, he is getting mentally used to using spells as if it was second nature.
"Fuck." Johnny cursed after he was knocked down via a flying dragon kick courtesy of Liu Kang, which put an end to the sparring match as Reily walked over to the downed actor and extended an open palm.
"Cure." Reily cast as a greenish white energy ball came from his hand and hit the actor. The level one Cure spell heals small wounds and helps kick start the body's natural healing responses in the instant that it hits the wounded. To truly heal injuries, Reily knew that he would either need to level up his class at a faster speed or possibly switch classes and become a white mage.
"Damn. You really can use magic. What kind of Arcana crap is that?" Johnny asked after getting up and dusting off his monk robes that everyone was dressed in during this training period.
"My abilities aren't naturally born of an Arcana. Raiden believes that they originate from the Kamidogu I have." Reily explained while motioning to his family medallion that he secured to the belt of his robes.
"I must say. I never would have guessed that a Kamidogu would have surfaced, let alone be bonded with one of Earthrealm's champions." Liu said while stretching his arms and made sure that Johnny was alright after the beating he endured from the monk's sparring session before he moved out of the training area and stood next to a few monks as well as Sonya and Kenshi.
"I'm lucky it bounded with me when it did. Otherwise, I'd be dead right now." Reily said with a smirk before he stepped forward which caused himself and Liu to start circling each other as they prepared for their own sparring match.
"Luck can only get you so far, Reily. You must train your body as well as your mind for Kombat. So, let's see what you've learned so far." Liu said before both fighters got into a ready stance while Kung Lao stood to the side with his hand raised as the official 'referee' of the sparring sessions before he quickly brought his hand down and signaled for the sparring session to start.
Liu quickly closed the distance and attacked with a flurry of jabs and crosses that Reily focused on blocking as best he could before, retaliating with a leg sweep that Liu Kang jumped over before Reily followed through with his momentum from the sweep and rolled to the side to get up before attacking with a side kick once he was close enough.
Liu grabbed his foot before tossing it to the side and once again, Reily adapted and used the momentum to his advantage to hit Liu Kang's chin with a strong elbow strike. The monk staggered and Reily used the chance to bring his hands together and fire an Elemental Bolt at the monk who quickly reinforced his body with Chi and took the brunt of the attack with ease as it barely left a scratch.
'Seriously. With my powers in this world, I am fighting in the most hardcore and life-threatening campaign of my life.' Reily thought to himself before he continued exchanging blows with Liu Kang and noted that the monks AC/Armor Class was absolutely insane.
Liu Kang was hardly phased by anything that Reily threw at him and soon enough, Reily's stamina reached its limit, and he started slowing down which ended the fight as Liu Kang delivered a final and painful one-inch punch to Reily's chest, which sent Reily onto his back with all the air out of his lungs.
"Ow." Reily groaned in pain before he saw Liu Kang above him and offering him a hand up.
"You're improving." Liu Kang said sincerely before Reily cast Cure on himself to ease his pain and gain a few hit points back.
"Not quickly enough." Reily replied before Liu offered him wise words.
"Don't concern yourself with the speed of learning Kombat. Concern yourself only with mastering the techniques available to you and becoming the best warrior you can be." Liu said before Reily took his place among the crowd of monks before he saw new alerts appear before his eyes.

Reily was stunned by what he saw after he had just leveled up from his sparring session with Liu Kang. The first thing he did was look at the list of available feats before making his choice, followed by looking at his additional class feat and limit break ability.
[Class Feat
Ambient Mana Absorption
This feat is granted to the Red Mage. Unlike other magic classes, a Red Mage has a limit to how much MP they gain but as they passively absorb mana from the atmosphere their mana reserves can grow as well and possibly surpass the mana limit of other classes.
Grants you 2 bonus MP times your Charisma modifier each second level.
You regen 1 MP every thirty minutes.]

Novice Red Mage Caster
This feat is granted to Red Mages when they reach fourth level, and this feat is transferrable to other classes and allows the user to cast any level 1 spell from the Red Mage spell list without being in the Red Mage class.
Cost: 2 class points to equip in other classes.]
[Limit Break
Energy Rain
When your HP reaches 50% and below you are able to activate this Limit Break by jumping high into the air and firing six condensed magical missiles of non-elemental energy at an enemy dealing 2d20 damage plus your spell casting modifiers.
Range: 10 Feet
Area of effect: 10 Feet
Duration: Instantaneous]
[Due to reaching level four you have unlocked the class point system. Now in your feats tab you have empty slots available to allow you to use certain feats from other classes while you are not of that specific class.
Imagine having the defensive power of a knight while casting spells from the Black Mage class. A monk using ninja techniques. An inquisitor casting psychic spells and so on.
Your current amount of unused class points is 10 but increases by five for each level and class level.]
Reily took a deep breath while looking at the screens before going over his choice of multiclassing, but ultimately, he decided against it for now. Being a Red Mage is awesome and even if he changed classes, he might have picked a monk, but his magic was his core resource, and he isn't going to limit it in anyway.

Reily now had access to dozens of spells and couldn't wait to see what he wanted to equip, but right now he dismissed the screens and remained focused on his training for the rest of the day.

"You do realize that having magic defies conventional laws of science, right?" Sonya asked while Reily was studying some old historical books of Mortal Kombat tournaments that have passed.
"I try not to think about it too much. Besides, magic kicks ass, plus as far as this tournament is concerned, I think I'd be a good thing for us to have a healer on the team." Reily said with a shrug while Sonya rolled her eyes.
"You're not even going to question it? So, far you're the most normal person in this place, but you just sit by and accept all this magic and Arcana shit like it isn't even remotely concerning or strange." Sonya replied sharply with a glare before she took her own seat at the table that the Red Mage was sitting at with his large book that he placed on the table after placing a bookmark on the page he left off on, before closing said book.
"Look, Sonya. Having and using magic is a brand-new process for me and I'm not going to pretend that it isn't weird, but what is questioning it going to solve? I'll still have magic and worse case is that my powers work on Force logic, which means that if I try to shut it away, I could disable my connection to magic and lose it all together." Reily explained with a deep breath while speaking honestly with the military woman. "This magic is a part of me, and I plan on exploring its capabilities to help us win the tournament. If that bothers me, then I'm sorry."
"All of this stuff just feels…Off. It's like my entire military career was just a part of some complex reality altering game and now I'm stuck saving my C.O by myself without backup on some mystical island belonging to some ancient soul stealing wizard." Sonya huffed in frustration.
"This is a lot to deal with. The fate of the world is at stake and all that…If you don't want to get involved, nobody would hold it against you."
"Excuse me?" Sonya asked sharply.
"Choosing not to fight isn't cowardly. If you don't want to help, then you're free to leave and Raiden said that none of us are forced to be here. So, if you want to leave and get rid of this weight on your shoulders, you can." Reily explained calmly and without judgment. Sonya looked at him with a glare for a moment before speaking.
"I took an oath to defend my home and country from all threats, Reily. And I'm not going to tuck my tail between my legs and run because things are hard. It might not be cowardice for you, but it sure as hell the coward's way out in my opinion." Sonya replied before standing up and leaving.
"Damn…That could have gone better." Reily said while mentally kicking himself for what he said. He was honest but he should have known that speaking like that with Sonya would have set her off and he likely just got put on his shit list.
"At least I have time to look things over, now that I'm alone." Reily said before he mentally summoned his stats.

Grinding stats has been difficult for the gamer but he did admit that he was making progress and finally gained some natural armor which helped to mitigate damage he acquired. Reily dismissed the screen before mentally summoning his spell book and saw a list of spells available to him and Reily was rather stunned at just how massive the list was.
He carefully thought about the spells he thought would fit him best and frankly he unequipped his Mount spell and replaced it with something better as well as equipping two other spells.

"That can't be good." Reily said to himself after equipping his new wind themed spells before seeing another window appear before him.

Cantrips in traditional settings offer unique bonuses, but with other d20 systems and mods in play, they ultimately cause more problems and immersions issues. As an apology we have given you two extra spell slots for free.]

"Well, shit." Reily groaned before he resummoned his spell list and added two more spells to his repertoire.

Realistically, Reily only used his bolt and healing spells, so replacing the others is no issue. Although, Reily considered replacing the bolt spell eventually since he was leaning towards a wind build apparently.
"I should also try learning how to use a weapon." Reily commented before he got up and put his book away before he decided to speak with Raiden about some weapon training.

A/N: A light training chapter to show a bit of improvement and nothing else. Stay tuned for the next chapter ladies and gents.
Now, originally, I was going to delete this story but after getting some comments and messages I decided to bring it back and say fuck it, we ball.
If the story turns out bad, I'll stand by my work and if it turns out great then that would be awesome, so I'm doing my best since this is my first real attempt at using a DnD/Pathfinder type of game system. It's fun and I enjoy it.
