Author's Note: Spur of the moment project due to all the Sonaze feels I've been under lately. Also gonna count this as a gift for my new friend littleaipom for humoring my ship talk lol I know you've been content starving for these two.
This is gonna replace Never Alone in terms of where I put new Sonaze content, just because my writing when it comes to these two has changed since I started out. Never Alone won't be removed or anything by this also.
This first ficlet was a 4 am brain rot and there's no beta reading so I'm sure I'll regret this all in the morning. Hope you all enjoy and leave a review.
Also song reference is J's Lullaby if anyone wants to listen to it.
Theme 1: Reunion
Blaze reacted before she could give herself time to think about it, carefully controlled emotions usually bundled so tight springing out like a jack in the box. She was too thrilled at the sight of Sonic and evidently so was he at seeing her. The moment their eyes found each other across the field they were bounding towards one another with glee.
"Hey, Blaze! Long time no see!" Sonic called out and he was waving his hand merrily as he ran.
"I can't believe you are here!" She was grinning so widely she felt the muscles straining themselves at the unpracticed expression.
Always so stoic, Sonic always brought a different side to her that rarely got to run free. It was exhilarating, he was exhilarating.
Sonic skidded so hard to a stop that dust flew up in a cloud behind him. He was beaming. "Well, believe it because here I am!"
He brushed his hand against his nose in his typical cool and fancy free way, the familiarity of the gesture leaving an ache in her chest. They'd been apart for awhile now, it wasn't ever really their choice when or how they were to meet again.
Again, she thought and with a fond look clutched that word tightly. Holding onto it always brought them back together.
She knew she was spewing nonsense and so was he but it was fun. Blaze had missed her friend dearly and hearing his voice made her overjoyed. So, she kept rambling just to listen to his familiar tone of easy going confidence when he'd quip back just as silly.
Blaze felt energy rippling through her like lightning at their unexpected reunion and she saw it reflected in Sonic's lively green eyes. Needing a conductor for it, their hands found each other between all their excited babbling and grasped firmly.
Sonic smiled boyishly at her and began to twirl the two of them, fingers interlocked so that Blaze was daisy chained to him. She followed his romping without hesitancy.
She knew she looked silly, the imposing Imperial Princess of the Sol Empire frolicking like she was. Blaze didn't care though, just relished in the moment as they spun in a disorganized circle.
"You must tell me everything that has happened since we last met," Blaze told him eagerly as they spun.
"Only if you tell me what's been up with you all this time," Sonic quipped back with a wink.
The two friends fell over in an ungracious heap next to each other, letting go once they realized that all that spinning was making them dizzy. Sonic reclined back in the grass with his arms behind his head, chest expanding as he breathed in the fresh air.
Blaze copied him coyly and it earned her a poorly stifled laugh from Sonic when he noticed.
Her reserved smile broke into a wide grin and before she knew it, they were both giggling at the foolishness of each other.
And it was wonderful.
