Orient town, One of the various districts that give the 13th hierarchical city of Kagutsuchi it's atmosphere. Makoto Nanaya cannot help but simply look around her surroundings with awe as Sora simply nodded his head in agreement with how beautiful the place was. "Can you really believe that this is one of the more recent Hierarchical cities? The way this place looks it really does feel like it was built for years." Makoto said, excitement growing on her face as Sora simply smiled at that.
"At least one of us is going to enjoy their time in Orient Town." Sora said as Makoto looked at him slightly surprised to hear that before remembering the reason why. "Oh right…. Chinese food…" Makoto said as Sora blushed a bit upon hearing that. "L-Look. The food was pretty mid and I think I caught them at a bad time. I am sure they will be better tasting." Sora said as Makoto nodded her head upon hearing that.
"Yeah! I am pretty sure you got them at a bad day." Makoto said as she wrapped herself around Sora's arm. "So don't be a sour puss and come with me to enjoy some good old Chinese food alright." Makoto said as Sora sighed a bit before smiling at Makoto, letting her know he was willing to let her have her way. "Just hope that it's not bad enough for me to do a dine and dash. The one I had last time was pretty decent I guess." Sora said as Makoto was surprised to hear what Sora had just said.
"Did...Did you just say dine and dash?" Makoto questioned as Sora nodded his head at that. Makoto couldn't help but feel a sweat drip down her forehead. "Uuhhh tell me that was just the one time?" Makoto questioned as Sora shook his head upon hearing that. "I have dined and dash quite a few times already, mostly from restaurants that give me food that I have not enjoyed. I did it to a point I actually started a legend about it." Sora said as Makoto couldn't help but wonder about what he had said before realizing what he was talking about.
"A-Are you trying to say… That you are the famed French Man!?" Makoto exclaimed in surprise as Sora scratched the back of his head. "I didn't mean to do it all the time. It just happened that a lot of the food that I tried really did not sit right with me so I decided to not pay the bill. After all, why pay the bill when you are served mediocre food." Sora said as Makoto was left agape on hearing that.
"You...You are aware of letting the front of the restaurant know that you dislike the food and leaving a low star rating afterwards right?" Makoto questioned as Sora nodded his head at that. "I know Makoto but at the same time… It's awkward and I dislike talking with the front of the staff. One minute you tell them you dislike the food and the next you find yourself dealing with the front of the house trying to give you a discount or getting a fight with them. I would rather just not deal with all of that and instead run away from them before they can say a word." Sora explained as Makoto could see Sora's logic and yet feel shocked.
"Talk about Otsunian ruthlessness." Makoto said in surprise as Sora nodded his head. "I know I know, I probably should not be doing stuff like this in other Hierarchical cities that are not Otsu but there are just some things that I can never forgive, bad tasting food being one of them." Sora said as Makoto had heard enough and simply nodded her head at that. "Well if that's what you are going to do… I won't stop you unless you leave my ass behind." Makoto said as Sora nodded his head at that.
"So with all of that said and all of the revelations out of the way… Chinese food awaits yet again. And this time you are going to enjoy what you eat." Makoto said as Sora smiled at her determination as they soon found themselves standing in front of a familiar Chinese restaurant that Sora had been through before. "This place looks good. Are you ready Sora?" Makoto questioned as Sora couldn't help but freeze a little bit looking at the restaurant in front of him.
"Y-Yeah… nothing wrong with eating at the place I ran away from even if everyone has forgotten about the incident." Sora said, laughing nervously as Makoto slapped him right at his ass to get him to move forward. "Don't be like that Sora. Lighten up already." Makoto said as Sora simply sighed and tilted his head upon hearing that, deciding that further complaining would just get him more slaps and just went with the flow at this point.
"What should we get in this place…" Makoto mused as she opened the door of the Chinese restaurant, ready to greet her tongue with the taste of delicious food that was just waiting to enter her stomach. What she saw instead instantly made her appetite vanish as she immediately tapped Sora's shoulder. "We should leave right now." Makoto said as Sora simply looked at her shocked upon hearing her request, his mind wandering what could possibly make her make this kind of reaction.
"Makoto! What brings you to this wonderful abode." A voice called as Sora immediately turned to the source of the voice and his mind immediately understood why Makoto acted the way she did. "Ahhh yes, We should leave indeed." Sora immediately replied, trying to follow Makoto's lead at that moment only to feel a hand be placed on his shoulder to stop him. "And whose this wonderful man you brought along with hmmmm?" The voice continued as Makoto slowly turned to face the person that made her react the way she did.
"Oh that's none of your business….Kagura." Makoto said as both her and Sora turned around to face the Black Knight at the face as they both wore smiles on their faces to be greeted by him. Well smiling would be an understatement, more a pained smile would be more appropriate in this case. "Awww come on now, don't tell me that I caught you two in the middle of a wonderful date right now." Kagura said before becoming slightly serious.
"What are you doing here of all places Makoto? Are you not supposed to be on the hunt for Ragna the Bloodedge?" Kagura questioned as Makoto couldn't help but scratch the back of her head at that moment. "W-Well… I was feeling hungry and decided to come here to listen in on the gossip and get something to eat." Makoto explained as Sora simply remained quiet and allowed Makoto to talk as much as she needed to do so.
"Listen in on the gossip huh…" Kagura said as he closed his eyes to nod his head. "Y-Yeah! Places like this are a great place to listen on the happenings of the town and hear what the locals have to say on what's happening around them." Makoto explained as Kagura nodded his head upon hearing that. "If that's the case… Who's the third wheel over there." Kagura said as Sora couldn't help but feel a vein pop on his forehead upon hearing that.
"Third Wheel he says… when he is in back slapping range." Sora said as Kagura merely looked at him a bit confused, hearing a language he had never heard before. "Ahhh, I am Sora Minakaze… Makoto's friend." Sora said as he knew better than to immediately declare that he was her boyfriend unless she was fine with it as Makoto could understand Sora's reservation at that moment. "Oh, a friend huh… So why are you both speaking so lovey dovey huh?" Kagura said.
"And Why are you acting like this is a damn interrogation room Kagura!" Makoto said immediately landing a punch right into Kagura's stomach, causing him to stagger to the ground as Makoto huffed a bit. Sora merely stared at Makoto as she did this action and simply nodded his head at that. "Yup. The Nanaya arts are to be feared after all." Sora said, giving Makoto a comment that would be mistaken as a friendly jab to people unaware but to Makoto was clearly an affectionate gesture of love.
"Indeed. And these fists are rated E for everyone." Makoto replied as Kagura slowly stood up upon hearing that and rubbed the back of his head. "Fine fine. I won't comment on your non-existent love life but at the same time did you really find it necessary to slug me the way you did?" Kagura questioned as Makoto knew it was better to get the conversation moving. "So what brings you here of all places. Are you slacking and going on another date while Hibiki is not looking?" Makoto questioned as Kagura simply gave her a thumbs up at that moment.
"You know that Hibiki will eventually find out about this and make you pay for this right?" Makoto questioned as Kagura simply chuckled upon hearing that. "Oh don't you worry about that Makoto. He's busy right now with work so he will not know a thing." Kagura said with confidence as both Makoto and Sora looked at each other before shrugging, knowing very well that Hibiki is not going to be that stupid to not know what Kagura may be doing at that moment.
"In any case, if you are going to be in the middle of a date, me and Sora here are going to go and find dinner elsewhere." Makoto said, wanting to get away from the man or anybody else in general so she and Sora can focus on the task of searching for Ragna the bloodedge. "What's taking you so long Kagura. Everyone's waiting for you to or…" Sora, Makoto and Kagura immediately turned their heads towards the source of the voice at that moment to see who had just questioned Kagura at that moment.
His red hair was vibrant and visible for all to see, the dumb expression told them that he was not expecting Kagura to have others he was talking to. But at the very least he was happy to see the person in front of him. "Well damn, it's good to see you here Makoto." Hunter said as Makoto couldn't help but light up upon seeing Hunter in front of her. "Hunty! What brings you here of all places!?" Makoto questioned as Hunter scratched his head.
"Well our search kind of turned to a dead end. We didn't really find any leads about Ragna the Bloodedge so we decided instead to meet up here and talk about how to proceed." Hunter explained as Sora and Makoto nodded their heads upon hearing that. "Oh. You're here too Sora?" Hunter said as both Makoto and Sora nodded their heads before their eyes immediately widened upon hearing what Hunter had just said.
"Wait, you know him?" Kagura questioned as Hunter looked at him confused before realizing that the shocked expressions that were on Sora and Makoto's faces right now told him that he said was pretty revealing. "Uhh yes… We umm… met at a party one time. Good guy he is." Hunter said as Kagura simply grinned upon hearing that. "Well in any other case, I am guessing everyone's waiting for me to make an order. Alright I will go and do just that." Kagura said, leaving to do so as Sora and Makoto continued to stare in shock.
"H-Hunter?" Makoto questioned, the words refusing to leave her mouth as she was simply shocked to hear what Hunter had just said, eyes blinking crazily like a deer with headlights. "Yes Makoto?" Hunter simply answered only to receive a quick jab to his stomach upon hearing that kind of statement coming out of his mouth. "Don't just Yes Makoto me! How the hell do you remember Sora!?"
Makoto was right to react the way she was. In this world, Sora Minakaze did not exist like he did before, Bullet and Tager were clear indications of that. The fact that Hunter Long of all people was the only one to remember Sora like it was nothing was cause to be alarmed. What if this Hunter Long was just a spy implanted by the god of this world to spy on them. "Calm down Makoto. There's no need to overreact here." Sora said, trying to give Makoto the calming she needed.
"Though you better start explaining yourself. Otherwise I will have to suspect that you are some else entirely and will have to take proper action." Sora explained, letting his hand slightly drift towards his holstered pistol. He understood that he did not want to shoot Hunter if this was the real deal but he also knew he had to give this person in front of him a proper amount of caution to make them confess the truth if they are telling the truth or lie out of their mouth if they are lying.
"H-Hey man, there's no need for the piece right now man." Hunter said as Sora simply loosened his grip on the gun, hovering it close to ensure that Hunter knew he was serious as Hunter took a deep breath upon realizing he needed to answer what he was doing. "Look you two… I am not sure what is going on myself. I was with everyone and suddenly everyone vanished. When I came to, I just remember being on the airship." Hunter explained as both Sora and Makoto nodded their heads, understanding that this was the real deal.
"So you already knew who I was when you saw me in the airship huh…" Makoto said as Hunter nodded his head. "I thought it was weird the way you were acting… especially with the whole clothing change but I just went along with it because I thought that was just how you were in this world...I think." Hunter said as Makoto held back the urge to give him a jab at that moment. "I can see why you would think like that… still hurts you know." Makoto said as Hunter sighed upon hearing that.
"And it only just clicked for me the moment I saw you guys together and I called out Sora… and then saw Kagura's face about it." Hunter explained as Sora simply nodded his head upon hearing that. "At the very least you remember who I am. That's all good for me." he said with a smile on his face. "Still, if you kept your memory about everything… then how did you get here in the first place?" Sora questioned as that was a good question to ask Hunter at that moment.
"Well… That's what I am trying to figure out." Hunter said as Sora could feel a hint of blood lust come towards him. "You….Your scent…" A voice spoke to Sora's mind as Makoto could see Sora immediately tense up along with Hunter. "You cannot be….Balmung?" A voice questioned as Sora immediately recognized the voice that was talking towards him. "Are you….the voice that spoke to me before?" Sora questioned quietly as both Sora and Makoto could see Hunter lurch forward a bit before suddenly lunging for Sora, grabbing him by his collar as both Sora and Makoto could see the red reptilian eyes that were now glaring at him.
"You dare show your face to me….Balmung?" The voice questioned as Sora could feel a bloodlust emerge from the being that had just possessed Hunter's face as Sora raised his hand towards Makoto to stop her from reacting. "Calm down...Ummmm…" "You forgot who I am!? Am I really that insignificant to you Balmung!?" The voice accused as Sora did not know what he did in his previous life to make it angry at him but he knew he had to at the very least try and calm it down.
"Listen you, Hijacking my friend like the way you have will not make me answer what you are thinking. If you want me to be honest with you, you are going to need to tell me who you are and what you are." Sora said as he held his ground against the being in front of him. Makoto was ready to intervene if needed but soon Hunter's grip on Sora's collar released as he grunted right at his face. "My name's Mucro Flagro: Draco. I am one of the Lost Nox Nyctores that the great sage nine created… your predecessor." Hunter...or rather Draco said as Sora understood what that meant.
"Draco… you mean you are the weapon that Hunter uses?" Sora questioned as he felt a cold metal maw tap itself on his chest as he froze a bit. He did not know what to feel at that moment as he knew that Draco could deploy the blade to try and hurt him at that moment and that was what he was able to see with Balmung at that moment. "And I see those eyes of yours have not changed...Those eyes that gaze into the future." Draco said, surprising Sora and Makoto upon hearing him say that.
"I feel like I should discuss things with you further but now is not the time or place for such things. We are stuck in a world we are unfamiliar with and as much as it sickens me to say this, we must work together to overcome what we have been tossed into." Draco said, the venom clear in his voice as before Sora could even question the Nox Nyctores, Hunter immediately dropped on his ass, breathing loudly as that told Sora and Makoto that Draco had just released him from it's spell.
"Yeah….that's what's going on." Hunter explained as both Sora and Makoto nodded their heads at that. "And well...he's got some gaps in his memory like everyone else here right now." Hunter explained as both Sora and Makoto blinked their eyes upon hearing that. "Ummm Sora… Do you know if Nox Nyctoreses have memories?" Makoto questioned, asking a genuine question towards Sora at that moment as he himself was to an extent a Nox Nyctores.
"Well… I don't really think I can answer definitively, but since Nox Nyctoreses are made from souls and have their own minds in the process… I would think yeah that is the case." Sora explained as he was simply unsure how to answer the question Makoto posed to him. "In any other case, with Draco acting the way he is and Hunter still keeping his memories… I am inclined to believe that we have the real Hunter Long in front of us." Sora said.
"Yeah...I guess there's no point in trying to guess if he's a fake or not at this point." Makoto said as Hunter couldn't help but feel while his innocence had been proven, he was getting a bit of a slap on the face with the comments he was receiving. "Hey come on, I am just as lost as you guys are in all of this." Hunter said as both Makoto and Sora looked at him at that moment. "Actually… We came here from the outside." Sora and Makoto said at the same time as Hunter couldn't help but hold their heads upon hearing that statement.
"Wait….You guys were not here in the first place… But came from outside the Embryo!?" Hunter exclaimed, surprised as both Sora and Makoto immediately out of instinct grabbed the man and closed the door of the Chinese restaurant to prevent people from getting any weird ideas. They simply held the man down for a few minutes, letting the idea that had just been given to him sit in his mind for a while before he finally calmed down and breathed normally.
"Yes Hunter, we came from the outside. And besides us only Caroline's the only one who is able to give us back up right now." Makoto explained as Hunter's eyes blinked a few times. "Then you are telling me that Professor Kokonoe's here in this world too and not outside?" Hunter questioned as Sora nodded his head at that. "She is… and she too has no idea that she is in the middle of a new timeline." Sora explained as Hunter rubbed his forehead upon hearing that.
"Dammit… there goes my idea to go straight to professor Kokonoe and ask her what on Earth's going on." Hunter said as Sora and Makoto couldn't help but chuckle a bit upon hearing that. "And how were you going to do such a thing?" Makoto questioned as Hunter scratched his forehead. "W-Well… I remember Tager being sent here before I was to go and check the area and he found Noel… so I figured I would try to find him before he found Noel and talk to him there. I was pretty sure a robot like him would have some sort of super computer brain to not forget." Hunter explained as Sora nodded his head at that.
"To be fair, I would actually do such a thing as well and it does make a lot of sense." Sora said as Hunter furiously nodded his head upon hearing Sora agree with his statement. "I know right! I was so confident too in my plan that I was going to try and find the time to leave Noel to do so but...I just couldn't do it." Hunter said as Sora and Makoto looked at each other upon hearing that statement and simply smiled.
"There's no need to say another word. We get it." they said together as Hunter couldn't help but smile upon hearing that. "Still… I am hoping that we do eventually meet the red devil himself so I can talk with him directly." Hunter said as Sora knew he may as well say something at that moment before Hunter pursued his plan. "Actually… we already met the Red Devil...and well… at the very least he's with us for now." Sora said, realizing that putting what he wanted to say to words would simply cause more confusion than it's worth.
"That...is reassuring I guess?" Hunter said as he sighed and rubbed his forehead on his arm, realizing that with the way Sora was wording his sentence it would be more trouble than it's worth to get the exact answer out of him. Better he simply hung back rather than try and force Sora to give the answer. "In any case, Can I leave it up to you with Professor Kokonoe? I want to focus more on Noel right now." Hunter said as this made Makoto curious.
"What's wrong with Noellie? Is something the matter with her?" Makoto questioned as Hunter nodded his head before scratching it. "Well to be precise, it's not like she's badly hurt or anything. She's in the restaurant right now ready to have dinner with us. It's just that she feels different than normal." Hunter explained as Makoto nodded her head at that. "And because of that, you feel the need to hang back for the time being to make sure she's alright." Makoto guessed as Hunter nodded his head.
"I was hoping you guys would be able to help me out on this… But something tells me that you are planning on doing something else." Hunter said as both Sora and Makoto nodded their heads for what felt like the 10th time. "Me and Sora were planning on finding Ragna the Bloodedge. If we can do so, maybe we can find a clue to break everyone out of this illusion." Makoto explained as Hunter nodded his head upon hearing that. "In that case, I'll leave that up to you. I'll make sure everyone else is protected for the time being." Hunter said, giving Sora and Makoto some reassurance that the others will be watched upon.
"Thanks Hunter. That really means a lot to me." Makoto said as Hunter nodded his head. "So if you don't mind the proverbial annoyance in the room. Care to have dinner with us? It would be nice for us if you guys stay around for dinner even though we are dealing with a small nuisance." Hunter said as Sora and Makoto thought about Hunter's offer before smiling at each other. "I don't see anything wrong with that offer. Just as long as that creep doesn't try to do anything funny to me and if he does, I do get to send him flying." Makoto said as Hunter gave her a thumbs up, ready to reenter the restaurant after saying that.
"Wait a minute Hunter, let me give you something Caroline gave me and Sora to communicate with us easier. Just so we don't end up being unable to talk with each other for any reason." Makoto said as Hunter nodded his head, leaving Sora to himself in the process as he closed his eyes for a bit. While it was not a long day, the fact that it was getting dark told him to try and get some rest before it got too tiring to go on.
'Where should me and Makoto go from here…' Sora thought as he realized it would be important for them to get a place to rest and while they could try and rest near the NOL Barracks, it would probably be better for both him and Makoto if they stayed at a cheap hotel for the night. The question was if the money both he and Makoto had would be accepted. It should be allowed for obvious reasons but just to be safe, physical cash should be the way for them to pay.
Another thing that was on Sora's mind, everyone at Otsu. From the Otsu four to everyone at the Midnight cat, Derrick, Pikaka and Neko in particular, how were they doing at the current moment. Their memories of him were most likely gone for the time being and unless he can figure out how to restore their memories with the blue light he produced for Tager and Bullet, there is a high chance that it would not be worth trying to head to Otsu to see how they are doing… if Otsu's still a city at this point.
'You sure have quite a lot on your mind huh…' A voice echoed as Sora couldn't help but feel a bit spooked upon hearing that, looking around slightly surprised. 'Oh Don't worry… I am just a disembodied voice that you are hearing right now.' The voice continued as the familiarity of her voice told him who it was. 'Is that you Ep...Amy?' Sora thought back, hoping that the voice he thought was Amy had heard what he was thinking.
'I am surprised you are able to hear me in your mind, let alone think to think to talk to me like this.' Amy said as Sora was surprised to realize that Amy was even talking to him at that moment. 'I...I still don't get it… Didn't you die?' Sora questioned as that was a great question to ask. Sure he could have asked a while ago when they met again but the fact that she was talking to his mind like so was even more cause for alarm.
'Yes I did… But thanks to your nature as a Black Beast you ate my soul and kept it safe. My body died but my soul still lives inside you. Didn't you ask this before?' Amy questioned as Sora couldn't help but blink a little bit upon hearing that. 'Sorry it's just a lot to take in… also I ate your soul?' Sora questioned. 'Yes...Yes you did. But you must have done so without thinking but thanks to that, I am able to live...mainly as a disembodied voice.' Amy explained as Sora nodded his head at that.
'I see…' Sora thought as he realized something else at that moment. 'I just realized, you are able to speak to me in Japanese. Did eating you somehow give you the ability to speak Japanese?' Sora thought, glad that he was just thinking about all of this as if he were to say this out loud, he would have 100% made himself look like a lunatic. 'Indeed. That did happen when I entered your soul.' Amy explained as Sora nodded his head upon hearing that.
'So...What are you going to do now?' Sora thought as he wondered what he should do next. 'Do you want me to release your soul now so you can go and be with your dad?' Sora thought as he could feel silence greet his mind as he waited for an answer. 'No… I would like to remain with you...father.' Amy said as Sora couldn't help but be surprised by that answer, his body losing strength briefly as he grabbed a pillar to support himself.
'Is...Is that too soon?' Amy said as Sora nodded his head. 'I will need a bigger explanation later on Amy...but for now...I am guessing that you don't want me to call you Amy any longer?' Sora thought as he could feel the disembodied voice in his mind nod her head. 'That was a name that father gave me… I love and cherish it but I also understand if you wish to call me by my original name, the 5th prime field device unit, Epsilon-5.' Amy said as Sora thought about what she had said for a bit before coming to his answer.
'In that case, Epsilon it is. I am not your original father and if it's the name that your father gave you, I don't ever want to take that away from him. Besides, Eppy sounds more memorable to me than Amy. Sorry.' Sora thought as Amy...rather Epsilon chuckled. 'Eppy huh… That sounds rather intriguing. I think I can get used to that fathe...Sora.' Epsilon thought as Sora shook his head. 'Just call me father. I will get used to it eventually.' Sora thought back as Epsilon smiled at the kind gesture given to her.
'In that case, I shall leave you be for now...Father…' Epsilon said as her voice became distant before vanishing from his mind. Sora smiled a bit as he scratched his head upon hearing Epsilon's voice again. "...I think I am going to go crazy at this point." Sora said as he felt his shoulder get tapped in the process.
"Got lost in your thoughts Sora?" Makoto questioned as Sora smiled and nodded his head. "Epsilon was just talking to me… You know the one." Sora said as Makoto took a bit of time to think about what he said before she realized who he was talking about. "And what is she doing huh?" Makoto questioned, being a bit suspicious about her intentions as Sora shook his head. "Nothing really, I am guessing that she's just going to observe from a distance." Sora explained as Makoto smiled upon hearing that.
"In any case, I just gave Hunter the communicator and he should be able to talk to us whenever he needs our help." Makoto said as Sora nodded his head upon hearing that. "So what now? We still having Chinese for dinner tonight?" Sora questioned as Makoto nodded her head. "Might as well right? It would be weird if we came here and then bailed. Besides, If we can observe the others and how they are acting maybe we can figure out what's actually going on." Makoto explained as Sora agreed with her sentiment.
"Then let's do that. Just give me a moment to enjoy the breeze for a little bit." Sora said with a smile on Makoto's face present. She then gave him a quick peck on the cheek to see the others. Sora smiled upon receiving his kiss as he smiled, ready to enjoy the breeze that was hitting him. He knew that his rather peaceful time was going to end soon and he needed to get ready to fight once again so this breeze he was feeling was the last thing he needed to enjoy before he got back to the fighting.
"Ooohhhh...So Hungry….Tao cannot go on." A voice called out as Sora immediately turned his head towards. A person crying out for food would imply that they would be homeless. "Oh come on now don't be dramatic. There that restaurant, let's get you something to eat there." Another voice said as Sora's eyes soon noticed something that was very hard to mistake. He couldn't believe what he was looking at as he continued to stare at the direction of the voices.
One person was walking being supported by the other. They wore what seemed to be a gigantic puffy jacket with giant paws for hands. Her tail drooped low as if weak as their hood's cat ears twitched weakly, their face only just a black mass with red features on it. The person supporting her had a massive slab of iron on his waist, an iconic red jacket and spiky white hair. The amount of belts he had jingled all over as Sora couldn't help but continue to stare at the sight in amazement.
As in front of him… was the grim reaper himself, Ragna The Bloodedge.
GREETINGS LOST SHEEP OF FANFICTION!? HOW IS EVERYONE DOING ON THIS FINE DAY!? I myself have been doing well, making sure that life's work is done in a quick and efficient manner as to not waste anybody's time let alone mine. As for what I am looking forward to, Other than the work I have been given to be finished, Armored Core 6. I am really excited to get to gaming and building mecha the likes nobody has ever seen. So yeah, Armored Core's a pretty hype game for me.
