Sabaku no Kitsune: Chapter 50
Land of Fire; Northern front, western Area of Operations (1 month since finding Anko): With Naruto, Obito, Kakashi, Kurumi, Karin and Sakura
"Ok keep it moving, come on I don't have all damn day" Kurumi said as she, Karin and Sakura led a group of surrendered ninja through their camp to a holding area.
Naruto, Obito and Kakashi saw this as they stood in the commanders tent huddled around a table after another successful but costly battle; Naruto and his team were in a large encampment about twenty miles from the front lines of the northern front. Over the past month their offensive along with Kumo, Ame and Suna has yielded results.
The coalition has pushed 100 miles into the land of fire and driving the enemy back; although this has come at a cost. Nearly a quarter of the forces under Kakashi's command has been killed or wounded totaling five hundred out of two thousand.
This also showed on Naruto and his team; Naruto's armor, cloths and even his weapons were all worn and dirty from nearly a month of non stop combat. Naruto's hair was longer and he even had little patches of facial hair growing on his chin and sideburns; if Temari could see him she'd saw he'd look homeless.
"That's the group you captured?" Kakashi asked speaking up; Kakashi looked as worn out and dirty as Naruto with his hair wild and even his mask having hasty patch work from tears and cuts.
"Yeah uhh…" Naruto pointed on the map to a hill "we captured this ridge in the afternoon and held it until about an hour ago when our relief force came; we entered through the eastern forest but they had anticipated that". "We ran into contact with two hunter killer squads totaling eight; we killed them but not before they took out twenty of our guys before we even reached the hill" Naruto said "we took out the guards there and captured the rest; they were some radio operators and map readers, non combat types".
"And what of the casualties?" Obito asked; Obito looked completely different as now he had a beard and his Suna uniform was barely holding together.
"Umm…" Naruto said as he pulled out a piece of paper "I counted thirty two dead and twelve wounded".
Kakashi sighed as he nodded his head "well you both will be glad to hear this; but we are finally being pulled off the line" he said making them both go wide eyed "there is a contingent of Suna and Spring ninja led by Baki coming to relieve us". Kakashi then got an eye smile and continued "I also got word an hour ago that Mei and Kiri have successfully invaded the eastern coast; we have successfully opened another front".
"Thank Kami" Naruto said with a groan "this shit's getting old fast". Kakashi and Obito chuckled and Naruto spoke again "when are we getting the fuck out of here?"
"In three days; tell the others and start packing up" Kakashi said and Naruto nodded as he walked out of the tent to go and inform the others.
In a tent: With Kurumi, Karin and Sakura
"Fuuuuck" Kurumi groaned as she walked into her tent and collapsed onto her cot "I wanna sleep, nothing else matters".
Karin and Sakura both chuckled at Kurumi's antics as they went to their cots to sit down and they began to take off their sandals to air out their feet and stretch their toes.
Karin took off her sandals and saw more blisters on her feet "shit, Sakura do you still have that cream for blisters?"
"Yeah" Sakura said as she reached into her medical bag and produced a tube of cream "here you go"; Sakura tossed it over and Karin caught it. Karin opened the tube and began to put the cream on her feet.
"Oh that feels good" Karin said as she began to rub her feet and Sakura snickered.
Over the past month Kurumi, Karin and Sakura have been with each other every day either fighting, doing recon missions or fetching wounded; they have all grown closer and all considered each other best friends.
Sakura smiled until she turned her head to the side and saw an empty cot in the far corner; that cot belonged to a fourth member of their little group. A young genin girl from Suna who was fresh out of the academy named Sohara; she was put with their group a month before the offensive since she was also a medical ninja like Sakura. She was a short petite girl with curly brown hair and green eyes and reminded Sakura of how Hinata was in the academy, shy and soft spoken but eager to learn.
Sakura had took her under her wing and tried to help her as much as possible try and learn how to be a good medic; however a week ago she was attending to some wounded ninja when she triggered a trap.
Sohara moved Suna ninja and unknown to her the ninja activated a motion triggered exploding tag before he died; when she moved him the explosive tag went off obliterating the Suna ninja and killing Sohara.
To Sakura the only solace to this was that Sohara died instantly as a piece of metal hit her in the head; she looked like she was sleeping except she had a golf ball sized hole in her head just above her left eyebrow.
Now Sakura looked at the cot that had some of her stuff on it; there was her single pillow, her fuzzy yellow blanket that she bought and a teddy bear given to her by her little sister to 'keep her safe'.
Karin felt the negative emotions coming from Sakura and spoke up "there was nothing we could do Sakura" Karin said making Sakura snap to her "it just happened".
"She just had shit luck" Kurumi said lying on cot trying to get to sleep "it could've happened to any of us".
"I know but… I just miss her" Sakura said and Karin frowned as she also missed Sohara; Kurumi feeling the room spoke up.
"Hey Sakura, have you and Kakashi been having sex recently?" Kurumi asked and Sakura looked at her and spoke.
"What? No, Kurumi; why're you asking that?" Sakura asked and Kurumi turned over and looked at her smirking.
"Because I wondered if he's seen that bush you've grown down there" Kurumi said and Sakura began to blush while Karin began to chuckle "because hot damn that stuff is thick; I saw it while we were taking a bath in the river a few days ago and I thought I saw some enemy ninja hiding in there".
"Kurumi you asshole" Sakura shouted as she grabbed her sandal and threw it at her but Kurumi caught it "like you're one to talk; I've seen your pits and your legs".
"That's because I'm a farm girl; unlike you two prissy city girls, sipping you caramel macchiatos and using conditioner" Kurumi said "I'm one with my body and I have never had a complaint".
"No one's seen you naked yet you idiot" Karin said "you're the only one here still a virgin".
"Please, Naruto's seen me naked a few times" Kurumi said making them go wide eyed "although that's because I use his and Temari's shower a lot and I forget to cover up". Sakura and Karin both sweat drop at this "I'll only shave my lady bits if I'm getting busy with a boy… unless he says to keep it" she said; just then there was a sound from the front of their tent.
"Kurumi, Karin, Sakura; it's Naruto" Naruto said from outside the tent "you can I come in?"
Kurumi smirked and spoke up " I'm naked" she said and Naruto spoke up.
"It's cool; I already have PTSD" Naruto said making both Sakura and Karin begin to laugh while Kurumi fumed as he walked in "am I interrupting?"
"Hey Naruto, answer us this; did Temari have any pubic, leg, arm or pit hair?" Sakura asked making him cock an eye brow.
"And if so what did you think?" Karin asked and Naruto shrugged.
"She shaved her legs and her pits but her pubs weren't much of a problem" Naruto said "Temari usually trimmed the hair around her lady parts much like how I do my 'man land'".
"Wait? You shave down there" Karin asked wide eyed and Naruto looked to her with a sheepish look.
"Not exactly" Naruto said with a chuckle.
Flashback; 1 year ago: With Naruto and Temari
Naruto and Temari were both in the bathroom with Naruto standing in the tub naked while covering his eyes; Temari was on her knees with a razor shaving Naruto's genitals which was covered in shaving cream.
"Be careful ok Temari" Naruto said with a slight hint of fear in his voice.
"Naruto, I've been doing this for you ever since we had sex; relax" Temari said rolling her eyes.
"Sorry it's just… it's a razor near my junk; i get nervous" Naruto said "Just one slip and then BAM; no kids, no manhood, no future".
Temari chuckled as she continued shaving Naruto "the things I do for love" she said 'although it's kind of for me too; no girl likes to go down on a tumble weed'.
Flashback end
Kurumi, Karin and Sakura were all looking at Naruto wide eyed at hearing this "you have Temari… your girlfriend… shave your dick?" Sakura said not believing what she just heard and Naruto nodded.
"I do stuff for her too; I give her massages during her period and I even know how to fix her hair and paint her toe nails" Naruto said and the others looked on in disbelief "what? It's not weird or anything".
"Ok, I've heard enough; half my brain cells died" Karin said "what are you here for Naruto?"
"We are finally being relieved" Naruto said and all 3 girls smiled "pack your shit and get ready to leave in a few days".
"Finally, a break" Kurumi said as she got up "I need a hot bath, hot food and a hot guy to take me out".
"Who Gaara?" Naruto asked and Kurumi looked at him.
"You bet your ass I mean him" Kurumi said "if he's wherever we're going I'm gonna ask him out".
"You ask him out" Karin said and Kurumi nodded "ooo... how bold".
"Hey, girls can ask guys out; there's no rule sayin' I can't" Kurumi said.
Naruto chuckled and spoke "well if he's there, I'm sure he'd say yes" he said and Kurumi smiled "pack up your stuff and lets get ready".
2 days later
Naruto and his team were finishing tearing down their encampment and destroying anything they couldn't take; as they did so a sentry shouted.
"Friendlies approaching from the North" the sentry shouted and Naruto along with his team looked over and saw a large contingent of Suna and spring ninja coming down the road.
Naruto and Obito looked to Kurumi and Karin and spoke "we're going to go and see Baki, keep on tearing this stuff down" Obito said and the others nodded as he and Naruto went to the approaching unit.
There were a flurry of greetings and hand shakes as Naruto's unit greeted the new arrivals; Naruto and Obito both met up with Baki and Naruto spoke.
"Hey Baki sensei; how's it hanging?" Naruto asked and Baki smiled as they both shook hands.
"It's going good Naruto; a lot dryer since we left Ame" Baki said and Naruto smiled; Baki turned to Obito and spoke "how's your daughter Obito?"
"She's good, just tired from all the fighting" Obito said "we're just grateful to be leaving".
"It's a shame because I was hoping to hang out with you boss" came a voice; Naruto turned and saw Konohamaru, Moegi, Udon and Ebisu "hey Naruto; how've you been?" Konohamaru asked and Naruto went wide eyed.
"Konohamaru? What're you doing here?" Naruto asked before he looked at them and saw they had Suna headbands and Suna chakra armor.
"We've spent the past few months training for frontline combat" Konohamaru said "we're a little nervous though".
"Is that so?" Naruto said before looking around "you too Moegi? Udon?"
"Yeah, we've only taken out bandits before the fall of Konoha" Moegi said poking her fingers together.
"But we have to pull our own weight, so we're here" Udon said "but Konohamaru is right; we're nervous".
"That's a good thing kid" Baki said to them "being nervous keeps you on your toes; just don't let fear grip you".
"I'll be with them the entire time" Ebisu said adjusting his sunglasses "young Konohamaru here is not only a ninja but also a morale weapon".
"Huh? How's that?" Naruto asked.
"I'm the grandson of the Third Hokage" Konohamaru said "they want me to try and convince Konoha shinobi to surrender; I'm a symbol of the 'Old Konoha'. "It's funny, I got rid of using my grandfathers name to get my way" Konohamaru said with a chuckle "but now I'm going to use it to try and save lives".
"Heh, that's kinda cool and a little funny" Naruto said and Konohamaru chuckled "well lets get you guys set up; you guys can set up where we tore down out tents".
"Lead the way boss" Konohamaru said and Naruto nodded before leading Konohamaru and the others to their spot.
3 day later; Nambu village (50 miles North from the front lines): With Naruto, Obito and Kakashi
Naruto, Kakashi and Obito were all in a giant bath house with about two dozen other ninja getting their first warm bath in over a month; Naruto, Obito and Kakashi were all in front of some sinks and mirrors shaving.
Naruto used a straight razor to cut the last but of hair on his cheek; Naruto got some hot water and washed off the last bit of shaving cream from his face. Naruto looked at himself and saw he looked like himself from a month ago but his hair was still long.
"I might need to put my hair into a pony tail again" Naruto said grabbing his hair.
"Me too" Obito said as he shaved his beard "I wish Sango was here; she usually cuts my hair".
"I can't believe this is how you see my face" Kakashi said as he finished shaving as well, showing his face "the mystery is gone now".
"Hey I thought you'd have lips like a blimp" Naruto said "or buck teeth".
"I thought you'd have a cleft lip or something" Obito said making Kakashi chuckle.
"Nope, you don't have that kind of luck" Kakashi said as he wiped his face and put his mask back on.
"I feel like a new man" Naruto said "you guys want to go and get some food?"
"Hell yeah; I heard they were serving steaks for dinner" Obito said and Kakashi nodded.
"I can eat" Kakashi said "lets get some cloths and go".
In the cafeteria: with Kurumi, Karin and Sakura
Kurumi, Karin and Sakura were all in the crowded cafeteria eating what they considered a feast; all three girls had a salad, steak, mashed potatoes, fruit and a pint of beer as their special 'welcome back meal'.
As they sat at their table was an empty seat with a pint in front of it for their fallen friend Sohara; Sakura took another swig of her beer and spoke "well girls this is by far one of the best meals I ever eaten" she said " compared to cold canned food and bland mystery meat this is like a gift from heaven".
"I hear that" Kurumi said "I'd like to make a toast"; Kurumi raised her pint and spoke. "To Suna; may we continue our march to victory" Kurumi said.
"To good health and full bellies" Sakura said with a smile
"To surviving a month of hell" Karin said with a smile.
Sakura hearing this looked to the lone pint and spoke "to Sohara; may she rest peacefully" she said with a solemn smile.
"To Kankuro…" Karin said also with a somber smile.
The three girls tapped the pint and took a good swig before a voice spoke up "seems like you three are doing as well as can be"; all three girls looked to the side and saw Gaara standing there. They all went slacked jawed at what they saw.
Gaara was wearing a special set of chakra armor and holding a food tray; it was black with red edges, he had his gourd on his back and two smaller gourds on his hips.
"Gaara? You're here?" Kurumi said with a smile "nice armor; is that new?"
Gaara nodded "Yes it is; specially made with special material" Gaara said as he put down his tray and began to move his fingers; the armor began to move and on his chest the armor formed some small spikes surprising the girls. "There has volcanic sand in the material allowing me to adjust the armor; along with that I can remove it to create obsidian" Gaara said I would not recommend punching it unless you want to cut your hand".
"Thanks for the warning" Kurumi said with a chuckle; Sakura and Karin both gave each other a nod and Sakura spoke.
"Hey Gaara, you can take my seat; me and Karin gotta go and get some stuff" Sakura said making Kurumi go wide eyed "you can keep Kurumi company; she wants ice cream after her meal".
"That sounds nice; thank you Sakura" Gaara said with a nod; both Karin and Sakura got up and Karin tapped Kurumi's shoulder.
"Later Kurumi" Karin said with a smile as both she and Sakura walked away in a hurry.
'Those bitches' Kurumi thought as they walked away smiling and giggling; Gaara sat down across from Kurumi and spoke.
"Hello Kurumi, how have you been; I heard your unit has been in heavy combat?" Gaara said "are you resting up well; do you need anything?"
"I'm fine Gaara" Kurumi said with a smile "how have you been? Weren't you with the Anbu helping out in the Kiri invasion?".
"Yes I was" Gaara said as he took a bite of food and swallowed before speaking "we infiltrated the day before and we began to take out smaller units to deprive them from reinforcing the beaches; Kiri had some difficulty in taking them but luckily they were secure by the end of the day". "We spent three days fighting there before we made our way back here; I arrived about an hour ago" Gaara said and Kurumi smiled and nodded.
"We got here this morning" Kurumi said "me and the girls went to get examined by some medics for diseases, sores and injuries; then we went to take baths and get new cloths". Gaara nodded and Kurumi continued "Sakura and Karin both hounded me saying 'shave your legs you Sasquatch' and I tried to ignore them" she said and Gaara smiled and lightly chuckled.
Unseen by them Naruto, Obito and Kakashi walked in after talking with Sakura and Karin and Naruto spoke "bet you a thousand Ryo they become official by the end of the year" he said.
"I'll double it and say by the end of the month" Obito said and Kakashi chuckled.
"Ah young love" Kakashi said before Obito looked at him.
"You're girlfriend is only a year older than Kurumi" Obito said making Kakashi gain a tic mark "'young love' like you're one to talk". Kakashi looked at Obito with a blank look.
"Fuck.You" Kakashi said before Obito playfully punched him int he arm.
2 days later; Western A.O : With Baki
Baki was in the busy command center about ten miles from the front line with listening to radio chatter " Tanuki 1- actual to Tanuki 1-1; report in, over?" he said into the radio and a voice spoke up.
"Tanuki 1-1 to Tanuki 1-actual; sector 1 secure, no activity, over" the Suna ninja on the radio said; Baki nodded and spoke.
"Solid copy Tanuki 1-1; keep watch, over" Baki said before switching channels "Tanuki 1-actual to Usagi 3-3; report in, over?"
"Usagi 3-3 to Tanuki 1-actual; sector 5 all clear, no signs of life, over" the Spring ninja said over the radio and Baki nodded.
"Copy that Usagi 3-3; keep comms on and remain vigilant, over?" Baki said before hearing a click and changing the channel
"Tanuki 1- actual to Saru 2-1; report in, over?" Baki said and waited for a response; a few seconds passed and he spoke again "Saru 2-1, report in?"
Baki waited for a response and he spoke up to the loud tent "everyone shut up" he shouted and everyone stopped "Saru 2-1, if you are there press your mic once?"
Everyone was quite and they heard the mic beep and Baki spoke again "Saru 2-1, if there is enemy in you're A.O press you mic twice?" Baki said; a second later there was two beeps and Baki took in a deep breath. "Saru 2-1… if the enemy is on top of you, hold down your mic?" Baki said and everyone held their breath; the mic beep for almost ten seconds until it stopped.
Baki clenched his fist and was about to give an order until the a whispering voice came on "Saru 2-1 to Tanuki 1-actual; come in, over?" said the hushed voice of Konohamaru and Baki picked up.
"Reading you loud and clear Saru 2-1; what is your sitrep?" Baki said.
At a listening post: With Konohamaru and team
Ebisu crawled back to his genin team with blood all over his arms and face as he just killed the patrol that just walked by.
Konohamaru, Udon, Moegi were all hidden among some trees as they looked out in horror at what they saw; in front of them was a large force of Konoha, Oto, Taki and Kusa ninja. Udon was trying to count how many there were as they stayed hidden in the trees.
Konohamaru and his group were silent on the radio because a patrol passed by and Ebisu went to take them out; Konohamaru brought the radio up to his ear and spoke.
"We have the whole fucking army in front of us" Konohamaru said in fear; Konohamaru looked over to Udon who was writing down on his notepad and showed it to Konohamaru and Konohamru gulped. "We count over three thousand plus ninja; Konoha, Taki, Kusa and Oto, how copy?" Konohamaru said.
With Baki
Baki was wide eyed when he heard this and everyone else paused as the enemy was at their door step and our numbered them by fifty percent. Baki pressed his mic and spoke "Solid copy Saru 2-1; get back to base, over" he said before putting down the radio.
Baki spun around and spoke in a loud and commanding voice "get me every channel and get me every nearby operating base commander" he ordered and everyone got to work "and get me Lord Gaara on the radio".
Upon saying that there was a loud explosion off in the distance and Baki ran outside and looked south; more explosions and fireballs began to erupt in the distance as radios in the command center began to go crazy. And both Suna and Spring ninja began to run out of their tents and looked on in horror.
"Kami above" Baki said before turning around at the mass of ninja and shouted "FULL BATTLE GEAR AND FORM UP IN TEN MINUTES; THIS IS NOT A FUCKING DRILL!"
The ninja scattered as they began to get ready and Baki ran back into the command center.
20 miles to east of Baki; North central A.O : With Shikamaru and Tenzo
Shikamaru and Tenzo were standing in the middle of a forward operating base; there were nearly one hundred dead Suna ninja lying around. Some had wooden shuriken and kunai in them, while others had their neck broken or impaled on wooden spikes.
Shikamaru heard a nearby radio crackle to life as he heard the shouts and screams of enemy ninja through the speaker which was at full blast.
"And so it begins" Tenzo said and Shikamaru looked at him.
"Yes it does" Shikamaru said as his squad of root anbu returned, covered in blood after killing the escaping survivors "Take my squad and head north to a village called Nambu, it's an important medical and supply junction and link up with Shikaku Nara and the others".
"And what about you Commander" Tenzo asked and Shikamaru spoke.
"I'm heading east to assist commander Hyuga and his unit" Shikamaru said as he knew Hiashi was going to be attacking from the eastern flank, while Tenzo went up the center and Fuu will attack on the west flank in a pincer maneuver. "Head out at once" Shikamaru said "this war ends tonight".
"Yes sir" Tenzo said as he looked at the squad of Root anbu "lets go".
