Sakabu no Kitsune: Chapter 52
At the bridge: With Gaara and the Suna ninja
Gaara was standing at the bridge ready to defend it as the forest to the east burned, lighting up the sky making it look like the crack of dawn. Gaara was patiently waiting for Naruto and his team to return so he could discuss another plan with them in order to set up a defensive line.
Gaara didn't have to wait that long as he saw Naruto, Ebisu, Konohamaru, Moegi and Udom running up to them "you're back" Gaara said as Naruto and Ebisu stopped in front of them. Gaara could see the looks on their faces which had looks of alarm and excitement "what is it? What is wrong?"
Naruto pulled out the scroll Shikaku gave him and spoke "We got the enemies battle plans" Naruto said making Gaara go wide eyed.
"How did you get that?" Gaara asked and Naruto shook his head.
"No time for that right now" Naruto said as he opened the scroll and showed Gaara the plans "there seems to be a three pronged attack coming from the east, center and west all converging to the bridge". "But we just set the forest to the east on fire so it'll be impassable" Naruto said and Gaara took the scroll and looked at it.
"Which means they'll split the eastern unit and just use the center and western prong to attack the bridge" Gaara said; Gaara turned to his side and saw Baki "Baku, get over here".
Baki heard this and ran over "Yes Lord Kazekage" Baki said and Gaara spoke.
"Gather up what is left of your unit and take some reinforcements; you are going to head west and set up a defensive line" Gaara said pointing to the west of their position on the scroll "there will be a unit of Root, Taki, Oto and Kusa ninja going there to flank us".
"Yes Lord Kazekage" Baki said before looking at Ebisu "Ebisu; you'll be my acting second in command".
"I'd be honored" Ebisu said before looking at Naruto "Take care Naruto".
"By boss; see you in a little while" Konohamaru said shaking Naruto's hand.
"Be safe out there ok; no heroics" Naruto said and Konohamaru nodded.
Baki, Ebisu and his team all ran off to start gathering their troops and Naruto looked at Gaara "so what is our plan Gaara?" Naruto asked and Gaara pointed at the central prong.
"We'll attack the center prong with a frontal attack" Gaara said and Naruto looked at him surprised as usually Gaara was more strategic "the enemy has more ninja than us; so we'll have to hit them hard and fast". Gaara rolled up the scroll and put it in his pocket "we can't hold back Naruto; there's too much at stake here" he said.
"Alright Gaara" Naruto said "I'm ready whenever you are"; Gaara nodded and looked over to his anbu commander.
"Gather up the anbu and who ever you can spare; we're heading out in five minutes" Gaara said and the anbu commander nodded.
"Yes Lord Kazekage" the commander said as he went to get her up the others.
Western Prong: With Kakashi ,Sakura and Karin
Sparks were flying as Kakashi and Fuu clashed blades while their ninja were fighting all around them; Kakashi sent a slash at Fuu who blocked and retaliated with a punch towards Kakashi's face.
Kakashi ducked out of the way and sent a kick towards Fuu's ribs; Fuu jumped back and reached into his kunai pouch and threw several kunai at Kakashi. Kakashi using his sword knocked the oncoming projectiles out of the air and stuck his sword into the ground before going through a set of hand signs.
"Fire Style: Fireball jutsu" Kakashi shouted before firing a large fireball towards Fuu; Fuu went through hand signs himself before slamming his hands onto the ground.
"Earth Style: Mud Wall" Fuu shouted as a wall formed in front of him just as the fire ball hit; Fuu was about to move out from behind the wall when he heard the sound chirping. Fuu immediately jumped back as Kakashi smashed through the wall using his Raikiri.
Kakashi's attempted to hit Fuu with his jutsu but Fuu dodged to the side receiving a cut across his chest; Fuu sent a kick towards Kakashi hitting him in the chest and sending him flying back into the wall.
Fuu grit his teeth because of the pain from his chest and gripped his sword before charging back at Kakashi who also gripped Torune's sword.
Meanwhile Sakura and Karin were both fighting side by side as they tried to stem the tide of enemy ninja; Karin sent out her chakra chain and grabbed one of the enemy ninja by wrapping her chains around him.
"Sakura; batter up" Karin shouted as she pulled back with her chain and Sakura spun around clenching her fist.
"Chaaaa" Sakura roared as she threw a punch towards the incoming ninja; Sakura slammed her fist into the ninja's chest and punched a hole straight through with the ninja going up to Sakura's elbow. "Ewww, gross" Sakura said as she pulled her arm out of the dead body and let it fall to the ground.
Both Sakura and Karin looked around and saw that they had taken out about half of the enemy force; however Kakashi was still fighting Fuu and the other half were not surrendering.
Karin reaching into her kunai pouch and threw several kunai at a root ninja hitting him in the head, chest and neck killing him "how're you doing?" Karin asked Sakura who was wiping off the blood from her arm.
"Other than getting splattered with blood and gore; I'm fine" Sakura said as a root ninja rushed at her with a sword; the ninja slashed at Sakura who ducked under the blade retaliated with an upper cut. Sakura's punch decapitated the man sending his brain and skull into the air "these dumbasses don't know when to quit" she said.
"Just keep it up; we're almost there" Karin said as she got her chakra chains ready to continue the battle
Central prong: With Tenzo and his unit
Tenzo, his root anbu and fifteen hundred Konoha and root ninja were all heading north to secure the bridge leading to Nambu village; the majority of his force was comprised of Nara, Akimichi, Yamanka and Sarutobi clansmen totaling a thousand.
These clansmen were mostly old men and kids but a decent amount of them were of fighting age and had some kind of battle experience from previous wars. Tenzo however was skeptical of their worth since the older ones were slower and the younger ones were weaker and less experienced.
'I just hope the bridge isn't too heavily guarded; we may have the numbers advantage but our quality is iffy at best' Tenzo thought as he continued to head north; Tenzo looked to the east and saw the forest still burning and narrowed his eyes.
Shikaku, Inoichi, and Choza along with several anbu went to the east to prevent the enemy from setting the forest on fire to prevent them from stopping a flanking maneuver. But the fact that the forest is burning is an indicator that they failed; now Tenzo was wondering what happened to the 3 clan heads.
As he and his until ran north a root anbu spoke up "Commander, look up ahead" he said and Tenzo looked in front; about a thousand yards away and saw 2 small glows, one yellow and one green.
"What on earth is that?" Tenzo asked.
Naruto in his Kurama mode and Gaara in his Shukaku mode were standing on a hill as they both spotted the oncoming enemy unit; Naruto was holding his fan while Gaara held his palm out and was creating tens of thousands of sand bullets.
"Ok Naruto; I created as many as I can" Gaara said trying to keep his concentration; Naruto nodded and smiled.
"Alrighty Gaara" Naruto said as he began to charge up his fan with chakra and it began to glow yellow as well "here it goes, our first time using this combination jutsu". Gaara took a step back and Naruto took a breath before he swung his fan "Combination Jutsu: Shredding Sand Storm" he shouted; Naruto swung his fan forwards and unleashed a massive gale of wind even more powerful than the 'Wind Combine Jutsu' that he uses with Temari.
The wind moved with a sonic boom and hit the sand bullets Gaara created and sent them flying towards the oncoming enemy force.
Tenzo seeing this wall of sand bullets shouted "GET DOWN" Tenzo shouted before going through hand signs and smelling his hands onto the ground "Wood Style: Wood Wall". A wall of wood appeared in front of Tenzo and his anbu and to protect them as the wall of sand bullets approached.
The sand flew through the air and hit hundreds of ninja in a hail of bullets; the sand moved with such velocity that they punched through individuals and hit the person behind them. Limbs and body parts were shot off and even the wind itself threw individuals around smashing ninja into each other.
Some of the ninja were fast enough to create mud and water walls but these provided little protection as after a few hit the defenses crumbled and those behind them were cut to pieces by the sand. Tenzo was straining as the hail of sand bullets pounded against his wood wall causing it to shake and splinter.
"Commander; what is this?" a root anbu shouted "Who the hell could-"; the anbu wasn't able to finish his sentence as a sand bullet penetrated the wood wall and hit him in the head blowing his brains out and showering Tenzo in his blood.
Tenzo was wide eyed behind his mask as he never expected an attack to be so powerful as it could penetrate his wall; soon after the last of the sand bullets hit and the volley stopped.
All around Tenzo were scattered limbs, dead bodies and the cries of the wounded who were unfortunate enough to survive being hit; Tenzo looked around and estimated at lease half his force was either dead or wounded in the matter of seconds.
'Kami above' Tenzo thought before he got out from behind his wood wall and looked at where the 2 bright lights were coming from; Tenzo went wide eyed and shouted "enemy approaching; get ready to fight".
Naruto, Gaara and their Suna ninja were closing the distance fast using the opportunity Naruto and Gaara had created; Naruto put his big fan on his back and pulled out his two smaller fans and shouted.
"Kick their fucking teeth in boys" Naruto shouted as he saw 2 ninja run out from behind a mud wall "Wind Sickle Jutsu"; Naruto fired 2 blades of wind at the ninja hitting them both and essentially blowing them apart. 'Holy shit; I love this mode' Naruto thought in excitement.
"You're welcome brat" Kurama said inside his mind.
As Naruto closed the distance a pillar made of wood shot out of the ground and nearly impaled him; Naruto jumped over the wooden pillar and fired another blade of wind at Tenzo. Tenzo jumped out of the way and went through hand signs.
"Wood Style: Flying Splinters" Tenzo shouted as he slammed his hands onto the ground; the ground began to shake and wood shards began to shoot out of the ground towards Naruto and Gaara.
Gaara extended his hands and created a wall of sand to protect himself and Naruto; the wood projectiles hit the wall and actually pierced halfway through surprising Gaara on the power behind the jutsu. Gaara decided to turn his defense into his counter attack and sent the sand back as a wave towards Tenzo.
Tenzo seeing the sand coming towards him made a hand sign and slammed his hands onto the ground "Earth Style: Earth Rampart"; Tenzo slammed his hands onto the ground once more and the ground began to shake as a giant wall of earth appeared out of the ground. Tenzo stood on top for the wall which was now about 50 yards long, 50 yards high and 20 yards wide as Gaara's sand approached it.
Gaara's sand crashed into the wall not doing any damage and Naruto saw this and spoke up "looks like we're going to have to get close" Naruto said and Gaara nodded. Naruto jumped into the air and launched a wind jutsu with his fans under him propelling him up into the air.
Naruto did several flips in the air until he landed on top of the rampart just a few dozen yards away from Tenzo; Naruto rushed towards Tenzo firing several wind sickles which Tenzo dodged. Naruto expected this and put up his fans and activated his gauntlet blade which glowed just like the rest of his body and slashed at Tenzo when he was in range; Tenzo began to dodge Naruto's attacks and back up.
Naruto sent a stab towards Tenzo's chest but Tenzo grabbed his arm before it could make contact; Naruto sent a roundhouse kick with his right leg which Tenzo blocked with his left arm. Tenzo without making a hand sign stomped his foot onto the ground and a wood pillar shot out and hit Naruto in the chest sending him flying back and skidding across the wall.
Tenzo was about to attack Naruto while he was down but had to dodge as a claw of sand swung at his head; Gaara decided to move in closer as well and attack Tenzo at close range. Gaara had created 2 sand claws along with his sand Tanuki tail. Tenzo countered with a punch towards Gaara who used his tail to block that attack; Gaara using this opportunity wrapped his sand around Tenzo's hand and grabbed him tight.
Gaara used his tail to swing Tenzo into the air before slamming him down onto the ground making him cough up blood; Gaara attempted to do this again but failed as Tenzo made a hand sign and a spike of wood shot out of the ground and Gaara had to jump back. The wood spike hit the tail setting Tenzo free as he landed and looked at Gaara.
Tenzo saw Gaara get into a defensive stance and also saw Naruto getting back to his feet; Tenzo began to come up with a plan in his mind on what to do.
'Two jinchuriki vs me alone' Tenzo thought as he looked in between them 'I should kill one of them and capture the other; if not I'll just kill one and deny the enemy a weapon they could use later'. Tenzo made a hand sign and a long piece of wood came out of the ground and Tenzo pulled it out; Tenzo had made a wood spear and got into a defensive stance.
"Come at me" Tenzo said and Naruto spat some blood on the ground.
"With pleasure dick head" Naruto said as he charged at Tenzo going on the offensive.
With Kakashi, Sakura and Karin
Kakashi and Fuu continued to clash blades as neither man was giving any ground; Kakashi slashed at Fuu's head and Fuu ducked away before sending a stab towards Kakashi's chest. Kakashi used his sword to parry Fuu's before grabbing onto Fuu's arm and sending a stab of his own; Fuu grabbed onto Kakashi's arm and Kakashi decided to perform two attacks at once.
Kakashi sent a kick towards Fuu's wrist knocking the sword from his hand while at the same time flicking his wrist throwing his sword at Fuu's head; Fuu moved his head at the last moment as the sword merely cut his cheek.
Kakashi seeing as not both he and Fuu were unarmed proceeded to kick him in the chest knocking him back; Kakashi got into his taijutsu stance and charged at Fuu as both men got into a fast paced fist fight.
Kakashi threw a punch at Fuu who blocked it before grabbing the limb and performing a joint lock making him bend forward and followed up by kicking him in the face. Fuu stumbled back several steps and Kakashi made a single hand sign.
"Shadow clone jutsu" Kakashi said as he created 3 shadow clones and charged at Fuu.
Fuu recovered and saw Kakashi and his three clones charging towards him and got into a defensive stance while taking out a kunai. Kakashi's first clone approached and jumped and spun around sending a spinning kick towards Fuu.
Fuu blocked the kick and sent a stab into the clones chest dispelling it; while this was happening Kakashi's second clone closed the distance and sent a punch toward Fuu. Fuu was punched in the stomach and coughed out his breath before slashing at the clone who ducked under the attack and performed a sweep kick knocking Fuu off his feet.
The third clone approached and jumped into the air and sent a flying kick into Fuu's chest sending him flying back a few feet before stopping; Fuu was on his back and was about to get up when both of Kakashi's clones jumped onto him and held him down.
One clone grabbed his legs while the other held his arms down; Fuu struggled to get back up when he heard the sound of chirping. Fuu looked up and saw Kakashi using another Raikiri; Kakashi came down thrusting his Raikiri towards Fuu.
Fuu sent wide eyed and decided on a desperate move in order to not get killed; Fuu head butted Kakashi's clone knocking it back before gripping his kunai and slashing it across the throat dispelling it. Fuu now with his top half free saw Kakashi was only a few feet away and decided if he was going to die he was going to take Kakashi with him.
Kakashi seeing this through his sharingan got his other hand ready as the closed in; Kakashi landed and thrusted his raikiri through Fuu's chest making his eyes go wide in pain. Fuu let out a silent scream as hit heart exploded in his chest; Kakashi pulled his hand out and Fuu died a few seconds later.
Kakashi looked at his right hand seeing it was covered in Fuu's blood; Kakashi wiped his bloody right hand on his pants before looking at his left hand. Kakashi intercepted Fuu's attack with his left hand which resulted in the kunai puncturing through his palm and out the back of his hand.
Kakashi for a split second remembered Naruto telling him about how he had to do the same thing to save Tsunade when fighting Kabuto all those years ago.
'Well look at that Naruto; seems you and me have a lot more in common now' Kakashi thought as he looked at the kunai 'huh… doesn't hurt as much as I thought it would'.
"Kakashi" Sakura shouted gaining his attention as she and Karin ran over; Sakura, Karin and what remained of their unit were standing around as they finished taking out the enemy ninja. Sakura stopped in front of Kakashi and gasped "oh Kami, your hand" she said "let me see".
"I'm fine Sakura" Kakashi said waving her off "I actually can't feel it, believe it or not"; Sakura looked at Kakashi hand and began to analyze the wound. "It's funny, I've been stabbed before but this by far is the most-" Kakashi began until Sakura grabbed the blade part of the kunai and pulled it through Kakashi's hand with the ring of the kunai coming out last. Kakashi went wide eyed and fell to a knee "OH GOD IT HURTS NOW!" Kakashi shouted.
"The Kunai went through and severed some of your nerves and tendons" Sakura said as she began to heal Kakashi's hand "along with the adrenaline rush it dulled the pain; but removing it will bring on the pain".
"Now you tell me?" Kakashi said gritting his teeth as Sakura healed him; Karin looked on and chuckled before speaking up.
"I'm going to go and help the other wounded" Karin said and Sakura nodded.
"Ok, be right there" Sakura said and Karin walked off; Sakura looked to Kakashi who she was nearly done healing "don't worry; I'm almost done". Kakashi smiled and spoke.
"Aww, but I want the cute nurse to keep healing my wounds" Kakashi said and Sakura rolled her eyes and finished healing him; Kakashi got back up and flexed his hand "a little numb but it should be fine". Kakashi looked at Sakura and spoke "Ok then, stay here with Karin and heal the others; and stay on alert" Kakashi said "I'm going to go to the other checkpoints and make sure they're ok".
Sakura nodded and spoke "ok just be careful" Sakura said before leaning in and giving him a quick kiss through his mask "I love you".
"Love you too" Kakashi said with a smile before running off; Sakura sighed before speaking.
"Ok everyone; stay alert, there might be more enemy around here" Sakura said gaining everyone's attention "collect all dead enemies and if there is any wounded enemies they will be treated".
Everyone grumbled at this before Karin spoke up "you heard her" Karin said in a loud voice "GET TO IT!"
The able bodied ninja walked around and began to check the fallen enemies and Karin turned to Sakura and gave her a thumbs up; Sakura gave her a thumbs up as well and began to look around and inspect the dead.
With Naruto and Gaara
Naruto slashed with his gauntlet blade at Tenzo who blocked with his wooden spear; Naruto's Kurama mode covered blade was stopped by the spear surprising him. Naruto's gauntlet blade covered in wind chakra can cut through normal steel easily and his Kurama mode covered blade can cut through chakra conductive metal. So the fact a wooden spear could stop it amazed him.
Tenzo parried Naruto's blade and sent a stab with the spear towards Naruto's head and Naruto moved his head to the side; the wooden spear grazed his cheek and Naruto grabbed the spear by the shaft and sent a spinning back kick towards Tenzo.
Tenzo raised his arm and blocked the attack before making a hand sign.
Naruto shouted as he let go of the spear and saw his hand was cut up; Naruto looked at the spear and saw it had a bunch of sharp spikes that wasn't there before.
Tenzo seeing that Naruto was temporary distracted kicked him in the chest to gain some distance; Tenzo spun his spear and sent a slash. Naruto jumped back at the last minute and was cut across his chest giving him a minor flesh wound; Naruto landed a few yards away and held his chest.
'Damn that hurt' Naruto thought.
Tenzo heard something behind him and saw Gaara rushing towards him and bringing back his sand claws; Tenzo brought up his spear horizontally above his head just as Gaara came down and his claws contacted the spear. Tenzo was pushed down slightly his knees about to buckle under the strain of the attack.
Before Tenzo was able to make a move Gaara sent his Tanuki tail towards Tenzo and hit him in the chest sending him rolling back until he came to a stop. Tenzo still holding his spear spun it around until it was overhand before pulling back his arm and throwing it at Gaara; Gaara seeing this put his Tanuki sail in front of himself to act as a shield.
The spear hit the Tanuki tail and pierced through only stopping an inch away from Gaara's chest; Gaara looked at this in both fear and astonishment as he didn't expect it to have such power.
Gaara pulled out the spear and threw it aside as he glared at Tenzo; Naruto was on the other side looking at Tenzo as well and growled.
'What the hell; how is he keeping up with us so easily?' Naruto thought.
"Because he's using Hashirama's wood style you idiot" Kurama said inside Naruto's mind "Hashirama's wood style can counteract Biju chakra; that's how he defeated all nine tailed beasts by himself". Naruto went wide eyed at this and Kurama continued "you better think of a good plan boy, because you're fighting someone who can specifically counter you and Shukaku's host" Kurama said before going quiet.
"Well shit" Naruto said to himself as he looked at Tenzo; Tenzo made a hand sign and 2 wooden axes came out of the ground and he gripped them looking in between Gaara and Naruto. "Oh well" Naruto said cracking his neck "I've never backed away from a challenge before to I'm not going to start now".
"Hey Jinmenju! (A Mythical Japanese tree that has human faces)" Naruto shouted gaining Tenzo's attention "in the next few minutes you're gonna be calling me 'Nokogiri' (a Japanese wood working saw) now on".
"Nokogiri?" Tenzo asked "why?"
"Because I'm going to cut your ass to pieces" Naruto shouted making Tenzo sweat drop at the joke "lets fuck him up Gaara".
"It will be my pleasure to do so" Gaara said with a scowl.
Both Naruto and Gaara charged at Tenzo who got into a defensive stance as the two jinchuriki rushed towards him.
