Sabaku no Kitsune: Chapter 55
Root Base: with Temari
Temari walked through the dark hallways of the Root base wearing her disguise as she tried to navigate her way out; Temari had absolutely no idea where she was or even what level she was on or where she was.
Her mind was scrambled like and egg in a pan; Temari had small pieces of information. She remembered being in Taki and fighting Shikamaru, she remembers being held in that cell; she then remembered Inoichi and Fuu Yamanaka strapping her down to a table and applying her seal.
After that everything got jumbled as she could not remember anything after that; and she could only guess that it's been a few days since that happened.
'Fucking Shikamaru, fucking Danzo' Temari thought as she rounded a corner 'and fuck you Inoichi, I'm glad we killed your daughter'; Temari looked around seeing dozens of doors with no identification of what they are used for.
Temari rounded another corner and saw an entrance to a staircase; Temari walked through the door frame and began walking up the stairs. Temari's sandals clanked on the cold cement stairs as she ascended them.
Temari's heart was pounding in her chest as she walked up the stairs; she hasn't seen anyone yet but she had dozens of thoughts running through her mind.
What if they find the bodies and see that she's missing? What if someone confronts her? What if she runs into Shikamaru or Danzo?
Temari gulped down her fears as she reached the top of the stairs 'come on Temari, be a big girl and find your way out of here' she thought as she walked over to the door at the top. Temari opened the door and saw a security check point with 4 root ninja guarding it.
Temari was wide eyed behind her mask when one of the Root ninja spoke up "leaving the area?"
Temari composed herself and spoke "yes, Commander Nara requested I give him status updates on that Suna Kunoichi" Temari said hoping that they buy it.
"I see; well he's at the hospital right now with Lord Danzo" the root ninja said "he should be back in an hour or two; might just want to head up to his office and wait".
Temari hearing this spoke again "Very well" Temari said as she began to walk past the checkpoint and out the door; upon going to the other side of the door Temari let out a breath she didn't know she was holding. 'Oh man that was close' Temari thought as she continued walking again.
Temari looked around the hall way and saw it was more lively; there were root ninja, clerical personnel and even janitorial staff walking around. Temari looked behind herself and saw that she just exited from the fifth level and was now on level four 'damn it; that means I have four more levels to go' she thought.
Temari began to walk along the halls looking around for any signs that she could use to guide her; Temari was looking around slowly as to not draw too much attention to herself. As she turned a corner she saw someone she recognized.
Asuka and Kama walked out of an interrogation room and walking towards her at a leisurely pace heading towards her direction; Asuka was wiping blood off her hands with a piece of cloth staining it red.
Temari felt panic as she knew if anyone could recognize her it was Asuka. Temari backed up around the corner and looked around and to her relief she found a restroom.
Temari quickly entered the restroom and saw it was empty; Temari rushed to the stall at the very end of the room and got inside. Temari quickly pulled her pants down and sat on the toilet, pretending to use the restroom, as her heart pounded in her ears.
'Please don't come in here, please don't come in here, please don't come in here' Temari begged inside her mind; suddenly the door opened and the sounds of foot steps entered the bathroom 'oh fuck me'.
"I'm telling you we should've been there" Asuka said as she entered the restroom with Kama and headed to the sinks "if me and Itachi were with you and Shikamaru during the offensive we would've destroyed the enemy". Asuka began to wash the blood off her hands while she continued to talk "And what's worse that blonde haired bastard was there" Asuka growled "and he killed Tenzo along with Lord Yamanaka and Lord Akimichi".
"It can't be helped now" Kama said as Asuka continue to wash her hands "so how're thing with you and commander Uchiha?"
"Me and Itachi are ok" Asuka said "what about you and Shikamaru; you two banged yet?"
Temari's grit her teeth as they continued their conversation 'god damn it; I'm trying to escape captivity and I have to listen to this bullshit' she thought.
"Me and Commander Nara have a platonic relationship" Kama said "we are both professional in both our work relationship"; Asuka hearing this groaned.
"Whatever you say" Asuka said as she turned off the water; Asuka walked over to a paper towel dispenser and grabbed some paper towels to dry her hands. Asuka threw the paper into a garbage bin and began to walk out "come on; we have one more thing to do before we can call it quits for the day" she said.
Asuka and Kama both walked out of the restroom leaving Temari alone; Temari felt a wave of relief wash over her 'thank Kami' Temari thought. Temari got up, pulled her pants back on and exited the stall; Temari walked to the door of the restroom and opened it looking side to side.
There were multiple people walking in the halls but both Asuka and Kama were not around 'alright, coast is clear' Temari thought as she walked out 'I got to stay on my toes; don't want any more surprises'.
15 minutes later: With Asuka and Kama
Asuka and Kama were both walking down the stairs to head to the detention wing on level 5; Asuka and Kama both reached the checkpoint where there was 4 root ninja standing guard.
"Commander Asuka and Kama here to see Temari" Asuka said and the root ninja nodded.
"Yes man, is there a particular reason?" The root ninja asked and Asuka nodded.
"Possible mission; classified" Asuka said vaguely and the root ninja nodded.
"Very well; can we see your I.D's" the root ninja said; Asuka and Kama both raised their I.D cards and the guards examined them "alright, looks good; proceed". The ninja opened the door and let both Asuka and Kama through the door.
Asuka and Kama both began walking down the stairs heading to go to get Temari; Asuka was walking on autopilot as she has done this plenty of times. Asuka had been adamant of using Temari as a partner during her missions for two reasons; one was because she was powerful due to her proficiency in wind jutsu.
The second was in a way it was her way of getting back at Naruto, the boy who killed her father all those years ago; it has always been a thought in the back of her mind that if she was lucky she would run into Naruto when she had Temari with her.
If that happened then she could order Temari to fight and kill Naruto or Naruto could kill her; either way it'll be a win in her book.
Asuka and Kama walked for a few minutes until they neared where Temari was being held; immediately upon seeing the door to Temari's cell Asuka got suspicious. Usually there were two guards outside the door at all times; Asuka made a hand signal and both she and Kama stopped.
"Where are the guards?" Asuka asked and Kama realized what she meant; Kama took out her short sword and Asuka pulled out her twin hooks and both girls moved in a tactical motion towards the door. Asuka raised her hand and counted down from 3 to 1; when she reached 1 Asuka kicked the door open and both she and Kama entered.
Upon entering they saw the 2 guards dead with one of them missing her clothing, her weapons and her mask; and what's worse is that there was no Temari inside the cell.
"SHIT" Asuka shouted in anger before she looked at Kama and spoke "Temari escaped, put the entire facility on lock down; no one comes in or out until we find her".
"Yes mam" Kama said as she ran out of the room; Kama ran down the hall to a lever and pulled it signaling the alarm before heading to a intercom and pressing a button "lock down, lock down, escaped prisoner; female, blonde hair, teal eyes, wind jutsu user, wearing a root uniform!"
Second Level: With Temari
Temari just entered the second floor after passing through the third floor which was the quarters area housing well over 300 root ninja and support staff. Now Temari was on the second floor which was the floor responsible for the armory and training areas.
Temari actually thought it was a good idea; the fifth floor held all the prisoners, the fourth floor held interrogation rooms and offices and the third floor housed the ninja. Which meant if there was a mass escape then the escaping prisoners would have to fight through 2 floors of people before getting to the weapons.
As Temari rounded a corner sirens and alarms started buzzing up ahead and then she heard Kama's voice from a loud speaker "lock down, lock down, escaped prisoner; female, blonde hair, teal eyes, wind jutsu user, wearing a root uniform!"
'Shit, they found the bodies' Temari thought as she continued walking through the halls; Temari was wearing her mask and was using a henge for her hair but knew that now she had bigger problems. Eventually they'll stop her, ask her to take off her mask and then she'll be screwed.
Temari rounded a corner and saw what looked like a small armory guarded by 2 root genin around 12 or 13 stood on guard; they were at the end of a hallway with only one point of entry. Temari knew she had to think of something fast and decided that there was no point in avoiding conflict now that the alarm was raised.
Temari walked up calmly and spoke with a tone of authority "we're going on lock down; secure the armory and stand guard on the inside" Temari said and the 2 genin nodded "which one of you has the keys to the door?"
"I do mam" the genin on the left said as he reached into his pocket "we were told to-"; the genin didn't have a chance to finish his sentence as Temari kicked him in the face sending him flying back and smacking his head on the wall knocking him out. The other genin caught off guard fumbled for a kunai but Temari grabbed his wrist and pulled him towards her.
Temari delivered a knee to the boys gut knocking the wind out of him before elbowing him on the back of the neck knocking him out as well; Temari grabbed the keys to the armory and opened it quickly. Temari then grabbed both unconscious genin and pulled them inside the room before closing and locking the door.
Upon entering the room Temari turned on the lights and saw she was in a really small armory; there was nothing special in the room as it was no bigger than a large janitorial closet. It had the basics, kunai, shuriken, a few short swords and a crate of exploding tags; but other than that there wasn't much.
Temari looked around and spotted some ninja wire; she grabbed it and quickly tied up both genin before rummaging around the room for anything that could help.
'Come on Temari, think; what would Naruto do?' Temari thought; after being with Naruto for years she learn something very important from her boyfriend. In an emergency situation sometimes a stupid idea is all you got; Naruto backed this up to when he used a kunai with an exploding tag to stab Gaara in the ass during the Konoha invasion all those years ago.
As Temari did so she spotted something that made her go wide eyed; there was an air duct in the far corner of the room.Dropping to her knees Temari looked inside and saw that the air duct was small, maybe two feet high and three feet wide but she thought maybe she could squeeze in there.
Temari looked at herself and realized she could do it with the root uniform on as it had pouches for kunai and other weapons; Temari quickly began to take off her cloths throwing them aside and now she was just in a pair of grew panties and a bra. Temari grabbed a kunai and began to use it to take off the grate covering the vent; after popping it off Temari places herself inside the vent feet first and pushed herself in.
When she was halfway in she put the kunai in between her teeth and sucked in her gut as she shimmied her way in; before she got completely in Temari grabbed the grate and put it back in place before moving backwards.
Temari crawled backwards through the tight air duct feeling slightly claustrophobic as she barely hand any room to move; and to make things more annoying Temari realized why it was so hard for her.
Temari's D-cup breasts were taking up a lot of space and this made her growl 'I swear to Kami if I get stuck in here because of my boobs, I'm gonna slice them off' Temari thought in anger 'what I wouldn't give to be flat right now'. Temari shimmied herself backwards for nearly five minutes until she felt her feet fall into a hole; Temari crawled back some more and realized she reached the end of the air duct and now it became vertical.
Temari squeezed her way more and after getting her waist past the drop she began to channel chakra to her feet and used them to stick to the metal sides; Temari popped herself out and had a foot and a hand on either side of the air-duct to steady herself.
Temari then looked down and nearly began to panic; under neath here there was nothing but a hole of endless darkness; the air-duct went down so far that she could not even see the bottom. This only meant one thing to Temari, the air duct probably went down all the way to the fifth level; so if she slips she'd falling at least 3 stories down.
'Oh god, oh shit, oh man; that's along way down' Temari thought as she looked up and saw nothing but darkness as well; Temari began to slowly crawl up the air-duct trying not to slip 'come on Temari; you only have one more level to go'.
(30 minutes later) Second Floor: With Asuka and Kama
Asuka and Kama were moving through the second floor looking around for Temari; Asuka and Kama have been posting root ninja at every corridor ensuring no movement of anyone other than those they trusted.
Both women have been going barracks to barracks inspecting every single female root member; they checked for henges, that all of their cloths and equipment had their proper serial numbers and that none of them were under any genjutsu.
So far they checked 6 of the 15 barracks areas and 2 of the eight armories; and so far they have not found a trace.
"Damn it, this isn't good" Asuka said "how the hell did this happen; that seal should've kept her under control".
"The seal was far from perfect Asuka" Kama said "remember Fuu and Inoichi had to repeatedly reinforce it; her will power was just that strong". Kama got the information straight from Fuu about the Yamanaka seal; just like with genjutsu the seal only worked as well as the person who received it. A person with strong will power, a high amount of chakra or even mental health problems had the possibility to break it if left unchecked.
"And the Yamanaka clan just had to get wiped out during the offensive" Asuka said as she and Kama rounded a corner "they couldn't have left one capable member who could reapply it; they couldn't have told me ahead of time?"
"It wasn't your call Asuka" Kama said "Lord Danzo and Commander Shikamaru wanted only a select-".
"I am the fucking commander here Kama" Asuka shouted towards her making her stop "I am in charge of guarding this base and the interrogations; how the fuck do those two expect me to do my fucking job if they won't tell me that a prisoner has a weakening seal?"
Asuka turned in a huff as she walked ahead "I swear, if I'd known this could've happened; I would've put extra guards around her cell" she said; as Asuka and Kama walked down a hall way they looked to their right and saw another hall way leading to an armory.
The armory door was closed and there were no guards; Asuka and Kama got suspicious of this because they knew that two ninja were required to be on guard at all times. Asuka grabbed her swords and ran over with Kama behind her; Asuka looked to Kama and gave her a nod.
Kama reached into her pocket and retrieved a master key that was available to her and Asuka; Kama put the key into the door and unlocked it before opening it. Upon opening the door Asuka and Kama saw what Temari left behind.
On the ground there were the 2 root genin unconscious and bound in ninja wire; a few feet away there was a piles of women's clothes and a blank root mask lying on the ground.
"She was in here not that long ago" Asuka said to Kama who nodded "but why the hell did she take off her clothes; does she have a second disguise we didn't know about?"
"I honestly have no idea" Kama said "and it'd be very easy to spot a naked woman walking through the halls; so where did she go?"
Asuka and Kama were both wracking their brains trying to figure out where Temari went when 2 root anbu walked up and Asuka spoke to them "untie them and wake them up; she's on this floor" she said. "Tear this floor apart, leave nothing unturned" Asuka said and the anbu nodded.
"Yes mam" the anbu said as Asuka and Kama walked past and the root anbu began to untie the unconscious genin; unseen by Asuka, Kama or anyone else was the loose air duct cover that Temari used to crawl away.
(15 minutes later) Air ducts: With Temari
Temari has been crawling up the air duct for over 45 minutes now and she was sweating profusely; he chakra control was horrible, her muscles were aching and she was feeling dehydrated from the hot air flowing around her.
'Come on, I have to be close' Temari thought as she continued to climb up; suddenly there was a pulse in Temari's head as her forehead began to burn and her vision began to shake. After a few seconds the pain resided and her mind cleared 'what the hell was that?' Temari thought before resuming climbing; after a few more feet Temari saw the top of the air duct with it branching off to the right. Temari let out a sigh of relief as she went right and began crawling through the duct trying to find a way out.
She crawled several feet before reaching a grate below her; Temari looked down through the openings and observed where she was at. Temari was above room full of medical supplies; Temari grabbed her kunai from her mouth and pried open the grate before crawling out.
Temari slowly creeped out and landed softly on the ground and began to look around; around her were dozens of bottles of medicine, surgical equipment, bandages and hospital gowns. Temari took a deep breath and began to concentrate.
'Ok Temari, think; what would Naruto do?' Temari thought hard for a few seconds; Temari groaned as she couldn't think of anything 'Ok… what would Kankuro do?'
Suddenly a light bulb went off in her head and Temari had an idea 'wait… Naruto… Kankuro' she thought; Temari spun around and grabbed a hospital gown 'that could work'.
A few minuted later Temari opened the door and looked around and saw the coast was clear; Temari stepped out of the room wearing a hospital gown with her kunai hidden underneath. Her entire head was wrapped in bandages obscuring her face and hair; she also had bandages wrapped about her arms and legs making it look like she was injured.
Temari also had some crutches and used them to sell her fake injuries 'ok Temari, slow and steady wins the race' she thought as she began to move through the halls. Temari looked around and saw she was in a medical wing and the further she went she saw more and more wounded.
The entire wing was full of the sounds of the dead and dying as nurses were running around trying to help who they could 'why is there so many wounded; is it because of that offensive Asuka was talking about?' Temari thought as she walked by a legless chunin. 'Kami above; how bad did they lose?' Temari thought as she continued to walk around.
As she did so Temari realized that the lock down didn't effect this floor as much as the others; due to the overwhelming amount of wounded there was no way to properly organize a search for her on this level.
"Fucking hell, we lost another one" said a nurse to Temari's left; it was a female nurse tending to a dead Hyuga who looked like he got hit by a fire ball. Temari stopped and listened to the nurse "hey Tomo, he's gone; take him to the morgue so he can be taken back to the Hyuga compound" she said.
A male nurse came along and spoke " why the hell does the Hyuga clan get to bury their dead while we burn ours?" He asked and the female looked at him.
"It's Danzo's orders, besides he has the Byakugan; they need to destroy it properly" the female said and the man nodded.
"Fine, what ever" Tomo said before putting in some earbuds so he can listen to music as he began to wheel away the body on a gurney; Tomo walked through the halls of the medical wing towards the morgue to drop off the body of the Hyuga. He took a left down a dark hallway that was lined with dozens of other gurneys full of dead bodies; as he was about to reach the morgue when he felt a sting in his back.
Temari had followed the man closely and has now used her kunai to stab him in the back, piercing his heart and killing him; Temari grabbed him before he fell to the ground and threw him onto the gurney before covering both bodies with a sheet and hiding it among the dozens of other corpses.
Temari gripping her kunai walked over to the doors to the morgue and saw what she was looking for; there were 2 men loading bodies onto the back of a wagon. The bodies of the dead were stacked like logs with no sense of organization.
"Alright; this one is full" one of the men said "lets sign out this load then we can go to the hole".
"Don't you feel bad for these folks" the other man said "i mean, they died for the village and now their just being tossed out".
"Hey! We aren't getting pains to be sentimental about this shit" the first man said "now hurry the fuck up and lets go; if we're lucky they'll let us out while this lockdown is going on and we can call it quits".
Both men walked away towards the back of the morgue and through some double doors; Temari took this opportunity to run out and jump into the back of the wagon. It smelled like death, rotting meat, medicine and bodily fluids but Temari steeled herself and moved the bodies. Temari buried herself under 2 corpses leaving herself enough room to breath properly.
A few minutes later the 2 men came back out with an root chunin "alright give me a minute, I need to check around" he said and Temari felt her heart stop "we're on lock down so they want us to check everything going in and out". The root ninja took out his sword and looked at the bodies; he was looking at the ones that looked fresh as he raised his sword.
The chunin stabbed one body in the heart before pulling it back out and stabbing another one; the chunin kept this process going until he reached the area where Temari was. Preparing for the worse Temari subtly bit down on the body beneath her biting down into a dead mans shoulder.
The chunin stabbed down onto the second body above her; the sword pierced his body, through the body on top of Temari and finally into Temari's back. The last 2 inches of the sword hit Temari on her left side piercing through her shoulder blade sending how streaks of pain through her system.
Temari used all her will power to hold her scream to not give herself away; the ninja not hearing anything pulled out his sword and spoke "ok, you can go" he said as he hopped off the wagon.
Temari let go of the body beneath her as the wagon began to move; a large door opened and the wagon exited the compound. Through a small gap in the bodies Temari saw that she exited through a rear entrance; the entrance was heavily guarded with well over a dozen root ninja surrounding it. Temari let out a sigh of relief as there would be no possible way for her to escape if she tried to use brute force.
Temari closed her eyes and felt the bouncing of the wagon as it went down a long dirt road.
(30 minutes later) Outside Konoha: With Temari
The cart came to a stop and both men jumped off and went to the back to get ready to move the bodies "alright, let get this-" the first man began until Temari shot out from under the bodies and landed in front of both men.
Temari punched the first man in the face knocking him out before spinning around and delivering a kick to the other mans head knocking him out as well; Temari winced as her shoulder wound began to burn.
"Damn it" Temari said as she turned around; upon doing so she went wide eyed at what she saw and muttered under her breath "fuck".
A large hole was dug into the ground and inside the hole was hundred upon hundreds of naked dead bodies huddled together like a jumbled mess; off to one side there was a pile of cloths that Temari assumed came from the dead. Temari covered her mouth as she has never seen so many dead bodies in one place before.
Temari spun around and took several deep breaths before walking over to the younger of the 2 men; Temari began to take off his cloths for herself as she took off her hospital gown. After a few minutes Temari was now wearing the man's cloths which consisted of a blue Kimono top, black pants, black sandals and a old flat cap.
Temari looked at the sun and saw it wasn't fully up above her meaning it was getting close to noon; Temari used the position of the sun to find west and then took off in that direction leaving the 2 unconscious men behind.
(3 weeks later) Western Front: With Sakura, Karin and Baki
Sakura, Karin and Baki along with a team of Suna anbu were making their way towards another medical F.O.B as another battle had taken place and Suna forces have taken casualties.
Sakura and the other have been busy for nearly 3 weeks since Naruto, Gaara and the others all went to train with Jiraya for the upcoming assault on Konoha; she along with the others have been running around helping out wherever they could.
As the team continued through the forests Baki spoke up "hold up" Baki ordered and everyone stopped cold; Sakura looked towards him and spoke.
"What is it?" Sakura asked and Baki pointed at the ground ahead of them.
"Trip wire" Baki said and Sakura looked to where he was pointing at; a nearly invisible trip wire was along the ground right in their path running towards a tree. Baku picked up a stick and threw it at the wire; the stick hit the wire and the next moment a tree branch swung around the tree at chest level in their direction.
The branch had wooded spikes tied to it making a 'X' pattern that would've gave whoever set off the trap mortal wound or instant death.
"How barbaric" Karin said looking at the trap "who would've set this up?"
"I don't know; I haven't heard any reports of Konoha using traps like this" Baki said and Sakura looked at him.
"We're still in an unsecured area; so if anything we-" Sakura began until there was a snap above her; Karin seeing something ran over to Sakura and tackled her out of the way as a giant log fell down where she was just standing.
Sakura was wide eyed because if Karin didn't do that she would've been crushed; Baki was also caught off guard and shouted.
"Ambush" Baki shouted as he and the anbu took out some kunai; a few yards ahead of them a patch of dirt moved and something charged out of the ground and blurred towards them.
One of the anbu rushed forward and swung his sword only for it to be stopped by a kunai; the anbu was about to strike again but recognized who he was looking at.
Temari was pressing her kunai against the sword keeping the anbu at bay; Sakura, Karin, Baki and the others all looked on wide eyed at Temari.
"Lady Temari?" The anbu said confused; Temari did not answer as she grabbed him by the arm and performed a judo throw and sent him flying into a tree.
Temari was breathing heavily and panting like an animal and Sakura looked on wide eyed; Temari's blonde hair was wild and spikey, her skin had multiple cuts and bruised and her torn cloths were covered in dirt and mud, she looked a lot skinnier from the last time she saw her.
In Sakura's opinion Temari looked in something in between a mental patient and a feral human; then Sakura saw something on Temari's forehead. There was a seal on her forehead that was glowing on and off; Sakura had an idea it was due to the seal that Temari was attacking them.
Sakura looked to Baki and spoke "Baki, let me take over; I have an idea" she said and Baki looked at her and nodded; Sakura then looked over to Karin and spoke "Karin, get ready to restrain her".
Karin nodded and Sakura began to walk forward and speak to Temari "Temari… it's me Sakura… put the kunai down" she said in a calm voice.
"BACK" Temari shouted pointing the kunai at her; the seal began to throb and Temari winced as she held her free hand to her head.
"Temari… put the kunai down… we don't want to hurt you" Sakura said as she continued to walk closer "we want to take you home… back to Suna… back to Naruto". This had an immediate effect on Temari as she looked to Sakura.
"N…aru…to" Temari said in a hazy tone like she was trying to remember something that this should know.
"Yes, Naruto… your boyfriend… he waiting for you" Sakura said calmly now only a few feet away from Temari "I can take you to him… just put the kunai down". Temari began to lower the kunai until her seal pulsed once more and she went back into battle mode; Temari slashed at Sakura who grabbed Temari's arm stopping her.
"KARIN" Sakura shouted before throwing a punch towards Temari's stomach; Sakura punched Temari in the gut sending her flying into a tree smacking into it. Before she could fall to the ground Temari was wrapped in Karin's chakra chains and restrained.
Temari began to thrash and struggle like a rabid animal caught in a trap and everyone looked at her wide eyed.
Baki regained his composure and spoke "Get on the radio and tell base we are coming back and get a cage ready" Baki said and an anbu with the radio nodded "and get a hold of Lord Gaara, Naruto and Lord Jiraya; I think we're going to need them".
