On a day, as simple as any other, everything seemed as normal as it always was. Bees were buzzing, Birds were singing and then again, there was a cat, laying on grass, looking up into the sun. Usually, she would be together with her best friend Chikn Nuggit or with any of her friends to be fair, but today, she didn't feel like it. It didn't seem to be much of a problem though, since her friends seemed either too busy or didn't care to notice. A deep sigh escaped her, as she looked up into the sky, feeling the wind brush through her fur and the smell of fresh flowers go through her nose. It was quite a nice day. Just a couple of clouds were to be seen and the warmth of the sun was comfortable. Neither to hot, nor to cold. She tilted her head to the side, but screamed in terror, as she noticed, that she wasn't alone anymore, making her sit up.
"Oh my goodness!" She exclaimed and panted from the fright she had just endured.
"Oh, excuse me, I just thought, since you're all alone, I should join you. After all, who doesn't like a bit of company?" The one next to her asked delighted by his prank.
It was no other than Bezel, who had just chosen to appear right then and there, without a warning.
"That was scary, don't you dare do that again!" Cheezeborger said still a bit angry at the newer addition of the bunch.
"If you say so, but now, how come you're all alone. Where is this dog friend of yours?" The creature in purple asked, while looking next to the one, he had asked his question to.
"Not here Bezel, if you're looking for him, you should go to his home, maybe even ask Fwench Fwy or Iscream, they probably know the best." The kitty advised.
"I could do so, but I think, that would be less fun."
"Less fun than laying around here?" She asked confused and sat up.
"Yes, it must be wonderful to lay around in the sun."
"W-well, it is… but you've done that before, don't you, I mean, you're the embodiment of time, of course you must know how this feels…"
"Oh don't be silly, why waste my time with something like that. Of course, it sounds, fun, but there is more to being me, than you might think."
A short silence followed.
"… Sometimes I wonder, how it is to be like you, Fwench Fwy or even Iscream. You're so free, if it doesn't go to well that one year, then the other will do, even decades could go wrong, who cares, you're immortal, not like Chikn…"
"Uh…"
"Sody Pop, Slushy or even Cofi. I wish I could be so free from worry." Chee continued, after the small intervention from Bezels side.
A big sigh escaped her, while the creature in purple sat still right next to her. His clock arms pointing down, rather puzzled by what the kitty had just said. Only seconds later, he laid down.
"I take it-" He began in a thoughtful voice: "You didn't have as much of a good day, as any of your friends."
Cheezeborger sighed.
"It's just one of these days, you know. Sometimes I'm alone, after all, everyone has from time to time more to do than hang with me. I just, often don't know what else to do. Not that I don't have any hobbies myself. I love to watch a movie or a series, maybe even play with a ball of yarn and so on, but it's been the week, that no one has had much time for me and today, I just feel empty….I-I'm sorry, I don't want to bore you." She interrupted herself slightly embarrassed, but Bezel just leaned his face to her.
"Oh no, go on kitty cat. I have enough time to listen to you." He reassured her.
"Well, there isn't much else I can say, it's just, that today, I'm not as busy as usual and when that happened, I begin to wonder, what I'm doing wrong. When from one day to the other my last one arrives and my last breath escapes me, will anyone even notice? I mean, of course, my friends will, but only because they are my friends. But anyone else won't. I just don't know how to explain it."
"You fear, that, in the end, your existence was nothing but a fleeting moment?" The clock creature asked, at which she looked at him while he had his face still turned towards the sky.
"Y-yes, just that," She sighed again.
After some seconds pass and no word or reaction comes from the one, that has been listening to the words of Cheezeborger, she sits up again.
"I'm sorry, I bet, you don't even really understand any of this. Just some weird stuff, coming from the weird kitty cat, meaningless to an immortal being like you, huh?" She jokes, at which he now sits up himself.
"No, not at all. Kitty cat… I mean, Cheezeborger or Chee it was, huh? I might not understand you in the way you would need me too, 'cause I never really go to deep when it comes to living, time and the passing of it. I rather go with the flow and joke around," He explains himself gleefully: "But, I think, what you must remember is, that everything will eventually fade away. I know that this isn't what you wanted to hear, but it is the truth and there is nothing wrong with that. That's how it goes. Nearly nothing can last forever, not even time itself does, even if I will say so to your friends. A day goes by with time, just like a week, a month or even a year. What you will have to remember, is, that all that matters is, what you make of it. Just do the things you feel like doing, make sure that you use any moment you have, to make it count and even just laying around in grass, while the clouds are passing over you and the wind is flowing through your fluffy fur is already a good thing to do. I'm sorry, was I talking for too long now?"
She shook her head at the question.
"This was perfect, thank you Bezel!" She thanked him slightly teary eyed, before giving him a hug, which honestly did surprise him.
It had been a while since he had been hugged last, but after a short confusion, he laid his hand on her head, to pet it like one would do with a kitty.
"I just still wished…" She then began her sentence thoughtfully and audibly still a bit insecure from the thought that sooner or later everything might end: "there would be some way, a part of me could be preserved forever. Of course, not in a way, where all humanity would be thinking of me, that'd be stupid and I really don't think I'm worth that much, but just something…"
"You know what, how about this?" Bezel then asked after a short moment of thought, before he snaped with his fingers, pets the small little calico kitty behind her ear, which made her purr loudly, which he pretty much copied into the small box.
"There!" He then said proudly.
"Wha-what is…"
"It's a memory box. I usually don't use them anymore, since I have so many of them and my room is getting full, but I think, this is a good reason. Now your purr will be in this, till the ending of time and you will never vanish completely. Of course, only if you're alright with it and I would keep it, to look after it."
"Yeah, I actually think, that's a great idea, thank you!" Chee then says already more brightened up.
"Look at you, all happy again! Nothing to thank me for, but I would be glad if you wouldn't tell anyone about our small conversation, Fwench Fwy would burn me and Iscream would not leave you alone for a second just to ask you out about it all. Let's keep this between friends." He advises, at which she smiles and nods.
"Well then, I will now have to leave."
"Already? Where will you go?" Chee asked surprised.
"There is still a lot to do for me today and even if I would love to stay for a bit longer, you won't be alone for too long, have nice day sweet little kitten."
And there the purple creature disappeared.
"Goodbye Bezel." The calico cat said confused just seconds after and laid down again, looking up in the sky, till she heard paws hit the grass and shortly after can see Slushy, Sody Pop and Chikn run towards her.
"Cheezeborger!" The puppy yelled.
"We finally found you!" Slushy yelled while panting for air.
"We thought you had vanished!" Sody added.
The cat with the burger hat sits up.
"Really? I was here, the whole time." She answers.
"We couldn't reach you either!" Slushy says, showing her phone with four times she had tried to call her friend.
So, they begin to talk with each other and shortly after leaving the park, to get something to eat and till the day ends, Chee wouldn't be alone again. Only Bezel is left behind and while they all walk off from the park, he laughs quietly, has his job has been done. The kitty is no longer unhappy.
The end
