Rewind.
In a darkened room with a huge digital screen for his private use, Michael Beckenbauer sits with his legs crossed, poised like a statue. He's staring at the television, crouched forward and pinching his chin in pure concentration.
It's been the fiftieth time he's watched the qualification, but his heart is pounding with a hardened jaw like the first time he viewed it. What was he looking for? What did he hope to absorb? Why the hell was he wasting his time watching this course run instead of working on his own visualization exercises?
Matching his frustration, his excitement kept him glued to that person on the screen.
The crazy guy…
He wouldn't call him a rival just yet. It was too early for such things. His pride wouldn't even let the thought surface. After all, he was already frenzied over Sawatari and the course records.
This was completely different.
Rivington Kanata posed a different quandary. He had yet to figure out what that was.
Racing for himself, his approach with quality and care spoke for itself. So what was it about this person that bothered him so much?
Pausing. Unpausing. Timing. Technique. Training…
What was the difference between them?
It took a while to understand until this very instant.
"Since the beginning, I saw him as my true rival."
But when he took a deep breath as he unpaused to stop himself from repeating the whole video again, he abruptly got up. He'd been doing this for so long, it drove him mad…
…but here was someone who would match him. Who would mostly likely push him to his limit.
And that's when he took his keys and rushed out the door.
He always believed in looking forward and to face the future with all your capabilities.
"I can't wait to meet that moment."
Though he was called the "German Cyborg", his smirk proved to it be a whole different matter altogether.

Author's note: Ever since I saw Michael, I already liked him. There's something that intrigues me, like when I watch Viktor from Yuuri on Ice. Kanata grew on me and somehow I felt like there's something there…
