Transformers One: Siren Chapter 12

Releasing a mighty bellow, D-16 charges at Sentinel. D-16 moves so quickly that the false Prime doesn't have time to react. Ramming Sentinel from behind, D-16 locks his arms around the former's waist, and the two tumble from the tower.

Siren rushes over to the railing, hands clasped over her lips as she watches them fall.

D-16 repeatedly punches Sentinel over and over in the face.

Realizing his predicament, Sentinel activates his thrusters and flight systems, so he doesn't fall to his death.

With D-16 hanging on, Sentinel tries to make his getaway in the air.

Not wanting to let either of the two out of her sight, Siren transforms and follows on an automatic manifesting track at full speed.

For Siren, it is all too clear what D-16 intends to do. In spite of the terrible crime Sentinel has subjected her to, Siren knows she cannot allow D-16 to commit the act. This isn't just about achieving justice anymore for D-16. He's deadest on getting revenge and it's clouding his judgment, making him act recklessly and irrationally. Sentinel must be held accountable for his crimes in front of all Cybertron through a trial and eventual imprisonment, not by execution. All the signs are there. Only a fool would ignore them and Siren most certainly isn't. Siren must stay in D-16's hand before it is too late.

But Siren doubts how much she can actually do with D-16 in this state. Considering D-16 is now so invested in extinguishing Sentinel's spark.

Sentinel and D-16's flight takes them all the way to the central plaza that is dedicated to the Matrix of Leadership in Iacon and where the energon originally flowed freely when it used to be aplenty.

They end up crashlanding on the top center of the dome and are sent sprawling over it. As soon as her wheels hit the top, Siren transforms and darts over to D-16.

D-16 rises with a hand on his right arm, he'd banged it up a little but not too badly when they crashed.

Sentinel isn't in good shape. He took the brunt of the landing, so he got the worst of it. Sentinel's wings had been damaged so he couldn't fly away.

Sentinel is reduced to crawling on the polished medal to get as far away from D-16 as he possibly can.

Without the use of her voice to hold D-16 back there's very little Siren can do to waylay him. D-16 is much bigger and stronger than she is. There's no way Siren can physically hold him back.

D-16 takes out his fusion cannon and fires at Sentinel. Sentinel uses the thrusters on his feet to dodge, pushing him a little on the dome. Instead, the shot hits one of the spikes that's part of the plaza, sending pieces of rubble flying everyone and people down below scrambling to get under cover out of the way.

Sentinel resorts to pleading for his life, asking for mercy. Even going so far as to say to D-16 that they could rule Cybertron together.

D-16's not buying any of Sentinel's crap. He's out for blood. After what D-16 saw him do to Siren, Sentinel is toast.

D-16 will not be swayed from his course. Nothing Sentinel can say or do will alter that now. It's far too late.

Glowering with bitter loathing and detestation at Sentinel, D-16 charges up his fusion cannon for one final kill shot.

Just as D-16 is about to pull the trigger someone else makes a timely intervention.

Orion appears out of nowhere, hammering into D-16 and knocking them both into the dome.

Siren exhales in relief. Finally, someone's here that can actually do something.

Angrily, D-16 demanded, "What are you doing?"

"It's over, D. Everyone in Iacon knows the truth," said Orion.

Throwing his arm off, D-16 said "So do I! He took everything from us! He stole everything from Siren!"

This makes Orion.

"Whoa, wait a minute. What do you mean he took everything from Siren," said Orion, slowly.

Voice cracking as he strains against Orion's hold to get at Sentinel, D-16 panted "Her voice…Sentinel took Siren's voice. He tore out her voice box and destroyed it."

No.

It can't be.

Optics wide, Orion turned to cast a look at Siren.

"No," breathed Orion, fearfully.

Siren's face crumples, faceplates swimming in tears.

"No," said Orion. "Siren, please…Sing."

Siren shakes her head, hiding her streaming optics behind a hand as the other goes to her neck.

Looking closer, Orion notices something peculiar about the plating there. As if it had been wrenched open and then crudely sealed back together again.

And then Orion knew that it was true.

Orion feels his spark sink as the full gravity of what this entails fully resonates with him.

Siren is everything that embodies Cybertron in its purest form. The one most deserving of happiness and joy.

And now that's all been taken away from her.

Unacceptable.

The need to avenge Siren rises in Orion's chest, but as he stares into her eyes, he feels it fade away. The message relayed through her radiant optics clearly begs him not to follow the path of vengeance. That's not what she wants nor what is needed.

They need to show Cybertron that they're better than this, better than Sentinel. Not to become like him.

And that's exactly what Orion intends to do.

Pushing back his raging emotions and keeping his inner monster from rearing its ugly head, Orion said "Sentinel must stand trial for what he's done."

"What," exclaimed D-16, outraged. "No! I have to do this! You weren't there! You didn't see what he did to her! Don't you get it? I'll never hear her voice again! I'll never hear her sing again! He deserves to die for what he did to Siren! Can't you see that?"

"Yes, I do. I understand completely where you're coming from, but rebuilding Iacon cannot begin with an execution. But we're better than this. You are better than this. Don't be like Sentinel," said Orion.

Orion's heartfelt words aren't getting through to D-16. They're only making him angrier.

Patience thinned down to a thread, D-16 warned "Pax, you need to move out of my way. Before I move you myself."

Calmly, Orion said "D, listen-."

But D-16 is done listening. He knocks Orion to the side and stalks toward the cowering Sentinel with nothing stopping him. Sentinel charged his fusion cannon and fired at full blast.

"Stop," said Orion, moving into the cannon's direct path.

The blast hits Orion dead-on, severing his arm and tearing through his chassis.

The fury fades from D-16's face as shock and horror replace it.

Siren released a silent scream, slapping hands over her mouth in horror and alarm.

Orion would've tumbled off the side of the dome and plummeted down into Cybertron's depts if D-16 hadn't moved and snatched his wrist at the last minute.

Holding onto Orion with all the strength he had, D-16 said "No, no, no, no, no. Why? Why did you do that? Why?"

D-16 is distraught by what he's just done. Sentinel was his target, not Orion. Not his best friend.

At first, it seems like D-16 is going to pull Orion back up.

That is until Siren appears over D-16's shoulder. Siren lies down flat on her stomach, reaching out a hand to Orion.

"Orion," mouthed Siren, nothing but love in her optics, reaching desperate fingers as far as they could go toward him.

"S-Siren," coughed Orion, eyes only for her.

The memory of seeing Orion and Siren together and the overwhelming jealousy and contempt filled his spark. Orion is no longer his friend, he is a rival on more than one front. One that D-16 doesn't need as competition.

It's this that makes D-16 make the decision that would shatter the mech inside he once was and turn him into something else entirely. Taking his rightful place amongst their kind and claiming his femme all in one.

Catching this, barely conscious, Orion whispered "D, no."

Darkness morphed his face into an image unrecognizable, eyes forever changing into a permanent bloodred, coldly, D-16 said "I'm done saving you."

D-16 lets go, letting Orion fall to his death in Cybertron's core, and forever discarding the friendship that held the three of them together along with it.

(Crawling into a deep dark hole, waving a white flag in the air.)

Bet you thought Siren would've convinced D-16 to save Orion instead of letting him fall.

Stay safe everyone. Especially with all of these crazy natural disasters occurring a lot lately due to global warming and climate change everywhere for sure. I swear it's like they're getting worse and worse all the time and it's like officials are simply just ignoring it or pretending it doesn't exist entirely just to go on with their daily lives. Especially those in multi-million dollar companies that rely on certain elements of our planet that we rely on to naturally keep us safe instead of adapting and finding new safer ways to keep in business. There are so many options out there where they can adapt, but they just refuse to see it because all they care about is money. Climate change is altering so much faster than anyone can really keep track of.

So, in light of all this, it is important to live life to the fullest as much as anyone can.

I know I am. ;) See you guys next time.
