And now, we get to the prelude of something that everyone has been looking forward to...
Now, we begin: Web of Shadows!
At Overhaul's pro hero agency, he would throw Miles into the same holding pen as Eri, and ordering the twelve-year old boy to keep the eight-year old girl calm before her next operation (where they would harvest her blood for the quirk erasing bullets that he would sell to other corrupt pro heroes and on the black market), or he would suffer the same fate as Pop-Step.
Miles is understandably horrified by this, especially when Overhaul's minions mock him by saying that he's already been reported as missing and/or already dead, but he decides to put on a brave face for the girl that he has now been pressganged into caring for, and figure out a way to escape from this place. After all, his Uncle Aaron has taught him how to get out of all sorts of bad situations. He could find a way out of this as well.
Meanwhile, Overhaul would meet with a villain in his home by the name of Phin Mason, the Tinkerer, a quirkless young woman who uses her technology to fight, but is traumatised by a recent event that Overhaul only alludes to, and uses to manipulate the young inventor to work for her (without telling her where the quirk erasing bullets come from or what they're made of), lest he hand her over to the police for what she has done, essentially guilting her into becoming one of his many lackies.
Just like Green Goblin, Norman Osborn, has, who, upon losing the Infinity Gauntlet, has lost all chance of completing his plans, and is forced to do Overhaul's bidding less he hand him over to the police for all his crimes as well. Now, having lost everything, including his chance to revive his wife and son, he rationalises that the only thing that he has left now is killing Peter Parker, killing Spider-Man, and begins to make plans of his own.
Later, Kazuko's remains would be found by the police, and Detective Naomasa would initially suspect Spider-Man due to his past behaviour and growing streak of violent attacks on villains, especially if it was fuelled by everything that has happened to him since Kamino. However, upon being questioned, All Might is quick to shoot this down, as despite how violent Peter might be acting right now, he is still not killing anyone, despite how he supposedly tried to kill Itsy Bitsy, who was goading him into doing it anyway. And even then, Kazuko and Peter were friends, and he would never try to hurt his friends. Even Naomasa can tell that it's not in his character.
Soon enough, Naomasa informs Kazuko's idol group, the FeatherHATs, of Kazuko's death, and they would turn their angst and sadness at their friend's demise at Spider-Man, who they hold responsible for it.
Meanwhile, Ochako would spend her days wandering the streets, tracking down the Tinkerer, and eventually coming across her during a dealing in the underworld between her, two corrupt hero sidekicks, and members of Mr. Negative's Inner Demons, handing over quirk erasing bullets on Overhaul's orders. Ochako breaks up the dealing and attacks Tinkerer, and the latter woman is confused as to why Ochako is attacking her and hates her so much, but Ochako is forced to flee to avoid Overhaul's goons.
Back in Overhaul's base, Tinkerer is confused as to why that strange woman had tried to kill her, but Overhaul waves it off and manipulates her into going back to managing her tech for them and supplying their allies with the quirk erasing bullets, but Green Goblin would intentionally encourage the Tinkerer to find out for herself, intent on screwing over Overhaul for ordering him about.
Meanwhile, Spider-Man, still covered in his Black Suit and feeling groggy and tired from all the constant fighting, would be haunted by a strange spectre, a vision of Kazuko, who would act as his conscience as he begins to slip further and further into the Symbiote's control.
Meanwhile, Ochako would come across Momo, who had just acquired her hero license and was hoping to find Ochako and Peter. However, Ochako would blow off Momo and vent her own frustrations and need for revenge, which Momo would find to be way too similar to Iida's own desire for revenge. Meanwhile, Ochako would state that she hasn't seen Peter, even venting her own frustrations at him as well, before leaving and losing Momo, forcing the girl to run back to Inko's house to try and figure out what is going on, not trusting the authorities to do so after the HPSC incident.
At the same time, Peter would swing through the city, before eventually coming across a couple looking for their child, whom Peter would recognise as the parents of Miles Morales. The Symbiote would encourage Peter to ignore them, but the vision of Kazuko would encourage him to speak to them, and so he would and meets them, learning that their names are Jefferson Davis and Rio Morales, and that Miles hasn't come home yet, meaning Kazuko hasn't dropped him off back home yet. Despite being manipulated by the Symbiote and succumbing to his darker thoughts, he agrees to look for Miles and bring him back to them.
Meanwhile, Tinkerer is sent out by Overhaul once more to sell her tech and the quirk erasing bullets once more, but ends up coming into contact with Ochako once more, and the two do battle once again, with Ochako finally revealing why she wants revenge on the Tinkerer. However, when the Tinkerer tries to talk to Ochako, trying to explain herself, Ochako instead blows her off and attacks her once more, forcing the Tinkerer to flee in a panic.
Elsewhere, everyone in Inko's house, including the visiting All Might and Inko, would meet to try and organize a search party for both Ochako, and would call Peter to try and get him back. It is at this time that Melissa brings up what David said about One for All and its symbiotic, possibly parasitic nature, and how it may be negatively affecting Peter. When she says this, All Might comments that when he was younger and taking One for All for the first time, he felt like it might've been pulling his emotions one way or the other in order to make himself a better hero, but had either brushed it off or forgotten completely about it, and the group debate on whether or not that it should even be given back to Izuku at all. They decide to call Peter and order him back, hoping that they can convince him to take the suit off.
However, Izuku wouldn't take part in this group discussion, having locked himself in his room in a state of depression and barely listening in to the conversation. As such, he only hears certain parts of the conversation, or more specifically, them considering the possibility of not giving Izuku his quirk back, and his resentment continues to grow.
Meanwhile, Peter would swing through the city, haunted by the hallucinatory spectre of Kazuko and the voice of the Symbiote, acting as the angel and devil on his shoulders. However, soon enough, he would be called back to Inko's house, and make his way there.
At Overhaul's agency, Miles would try to find a way for Eri and himself to escape from this place, and would come across a pin on the ground. Using that as a way to pick on the locks on the door, Miles would pull it open, and he and Eri would make a run for it…
And run into the Tinkerer, who was looking into Overhaul's operations on her own, and is confused as to why they are there, and why Eri is covered in bandages, and-
And she makes the connection, realising what is in the quirk erasing bullets, and is caught by Overhaul, deprived of her technology and thrown into the same cell as Miles and Eri, deemed too important to just kill.
At the same time, Peter would return to Inko's home, and would find everyone inside waiting for him, begging for him to listen to them and to get the suit off. Peter would rail against this, having grown extremely possessive of the suit, and is only held back by the voice of Kazuko, his conscious, in his head. Even worse, when Izuku demands the suit back, he rails against the boy, berating him for letting One for All chose someone else and not being strong enough to hold onto it.
However, when Peter is informed of Kazuko's death, he is horrified by this, and becomes guilt-ridden, temporarily breaking out of the Symbiote's control and realising how he was responsible, in a way, for her death and Miles' disappearance. However, the Symbiote quickly regains control over him and redirects blame of what has happened onto others, and he leaves to go find Miles and take revenge on whoever killed him.
In a distraught grief, Izuku would leave, going off to gaze at U.A. and wish back for the life that he once had. There, Momo would let him in.
Meanwhile, Ochako ends up tracking the Tinkerer down to Overhaul's agency, and would infiltrate his agency, avoiding all his security and eventually finding the Tinkerer, who takes this opportunity to try and escape with Miles and Eri. However, the Green Goblin, who Ochako is shocked to see at a hero agency, would find her, intent on using her as bait to lure out Spider-Man. The four of them would be thrown back into the same cell, with Overhaul planning on torturing Ochako for any information that she may have, and then killing her.
During this time, Ochako and the Tinkerer would start talking once more, and Ochako would make it clear that it was her parents whom the Tinkerer had killed.
And then, after that revelation, it is the Tinkerer's turn to talk, as she reveals her past.
Most of the technology that she has created isn't actually her own. It was her older brother's, Rick Mason. When their parents died, Rick had been the one to raise Phin, the Tinkerer, in their stead. They had been as thick as thieves when they were younger, always looking out for each other back in the day, and Phin had hero worshipped her older brother because of the fact that he was taking care of her, raising her working at his job, and still finding the time to invent some of the coolest stuff imaginable.
But then, one day when Rick was driving her to school, they were pulled over by a police car, and when Rick was ordered to step out of the car…
The police officer shot him. Without reason, or without hesitation.
In the aftermath, there had been protests because of Rick's death, which was suspected to be racially motivated, but there would be no convictions. The police always looked out for their own.
And it was there that Phin knew that, if the authorities would not protect the innocent, then she would.
And that is how she became the vigilante known as the Tinkerer, and her first act would be to track down the police officer who had killed her brother, and beat him half to death.
Eventually, she would go too far, and Spider-Man would catch her and hand her over to the police, to which she would be enraged by. Spider-Man was supposed to fight for the people, like she was doing. Why couldn't he see that?
So, when the Green Goblin initiated the breakout in the Raft and threw them all into Japan, the Tinkerer would take advantage of the chaos to slink away into the chaos and start her crusade against those who she saw as in the wrong all over again.
However, during her fight against a member of Overhaul's heroes, who she had guessed was corrupt, one of her attacks had missed… and struck two innocent people.
Ochako's parents. She had killed them, and it had been a complete accident.
After that, she had been left shellshocked and traumatised. She had beaten and crippled people, yes, but she had never killed anyone. And now… now she had realised what she had done, and what she was becoming: someone who was just as corrupted as the people she was supposed to fight.
And that's what broke her, and allowed Overhaul's heroes to pick her up and manipulate her into working for them. And upon seeing Ochako and how she was craving vengeance as well for what had been done to her family, how she was walking down the same path that she was, Phin was certain now, that she had become that which she had hated: a villain, and a murderer.
Ochako would be shocked by this, but would still feel angry at the Tinkerer for her parents' death. She would ask if her story was supposed to change anything, and Phin would admit that it wouldn't.
Then, the Green Goblin would enter the room, and declare that it was time for questioning, which just meant that it was time for them to be tortured.
Once again, a scuffle would ensue, and it was at this time that Ochako, Phin, Miles, and Eri would try to escape once more. However, somehow, the Tinkerer would be able to slink through Overhaul and his corrupt heroes and escape, forced to leave Ochako and the children behind as she did.
Exactly as the Green Goblin desires.
Meanwhile, Spider-Man would continue to swing through the city, urged on by the whispers of the Symbiote, feeding on his conflicting feelings of anger and sorrow, but tempered once more by the vision of Kazuho. However, he would then come across a strange sight that he hadn't been expecting.
The Tinkerer, standing outside of Ochako's old construction company site, which had now fallen through and filed for bankruptcy thanks of her parents' death. The Tinkerer would express sadness at having brought about their ends, and then would inform Spider-Man of Ochako being held captive, alongside Miles and Eri, by the pro hero Overhaul and the villain Green Goblin. Peter would become enraged at the thought of Osborn holding his friend and pseudo-sister captive, and would go to find and beat him, and as he left, he sees Tinkerer do something that he hadn't been expecting.
She walks over to a pair of police officers, and hands herself in.
Peter would be surprised by this, but the Symbiote would draw his attention back to the Green Goblin, and he would dart back to the task at hand.
Soon enough, he would arrive at Overhaul's agency, and break his way in, beating down corrupt pro hero after pro hero, throwing them through walls and into windows, slamming them through walls, and breaking the floors so much that they caved in when he slammed the corrupt heroes against them.
Then, he would fight Overhaul, and would be shot with a quirk erasing bullet, the pro hero hoping that it will drain him of his strength and power.
The Symbiote catches the bullet in its mass, and throws it back into him, hitting him in his foot and draining him of his quirk.
Peter would leave Overhaul behind, and would eventually find the Green Goblin as the mutated man showed off the bruised and beaten forms of Ochako, Miles, and Eri to him as a form of petty revenge. Goblin goes on to explain that Peter has taken everything from him, his chance to rebuild his life, and his chance to reclaim the family he once had, and all he had now was his revenge… and he would have it, tonight.
Then, he stabs Miles in the gut, mortally wounding him.
Peter would be thrown into a rage at this, almost fully embracing the Symbiote's control as he attacks the Green Goblin, throwing punch after punch after punch into the monstrous man, wailing on him and trying to rip the man limb from limb. Goblin would retaliate in his own way, having watched his battle with Itsy Bitsy and seeing his suit's weakness, slamming his fists into as much metal as he could find and disorientating Peter and the Symbiote, filling them both with agony at the high-pitched noises.
However, eventually, he would defeat the Green Goblin, and attempt to strangle him to death, fully intent on ending his life for what he has done…
Only for Ochako, who has now freed herself and the children, and done everything that she can to try and save Miles' life, would intervene and stop Peter from murdering his arch-nemesis…
Only for the Symbiote-possessed Peter to turn to Ochako, seeing her now as a threat, and attack her.
And thus, the battle between Peter and Ochako, brother and sister in all but name and blood, would begin, with Ochako trying to reach out to Peter and get him to stop, only for Peter, fuelled and manipulated by the Symbiote, to rage against her, using his anger at the world around it and all that has happened to him as fuel to continue the assault.
Meanwhile, Eri would be despondent at Miles' state, and would be desperate to try and heal him, eventually deciding to try and use her quirk, something that she hated, on the boy.
At the same time, Ochako would begin to fight back against the possessed Peter, drawing the connection between his mental state and the suit, and would desperately plea for Peter to fight against it. Peter would counter that he needed the suit, that it made him a better Spider-Man, and Ochako would rail against it.
And then, during the fight, Peter reveals what has really been fuelling his actions:
Grief.
Peter has burdened so many people in his life (getting his friends expelled from U.A., letting David become the Lizard, birthing Jessica, Ben, Kaine, and the other clones into a short life of torment) and had so many people in his life die (Uncle Ben to a mugger, Gwen and Harry to Norman Osborn, Uncle Ben again to Doctor Octopus, and now Kazuho to himself), and he is desperate to try and make up for it, to make sure that no one else will ever have to go through the pain that he did.
And upon hearing this, Ochako would finally vent her own anger and sorrow as well, at how much she had blamed him for getting her removed from U.A., and how much she had blamed herself for not being strong enough to save her family's company from bankruptcy or Peter from the Sinister Six in the forest or her parents from the Tinkerer, and how all she had ever wanted to do was save everyone as well, as that is what a hero was supposed to do.
But now recognising that this wasn't a good thing, and that her anger and rage and sadness wasn't something that she was supposed to hold onto, Ochako would finally let go of her resentment, and encourage Peter to do the same.
Peter has saved so many people over the years. Now, he needed to save himself.
This is when Peter would start coming to his senses, and would try to fight back against the Symbiote, only for it to double its control over him and shift from trying to beat down Ochako to trying to murder her.
And that is when Ochako rings the metal, and brings it to its knees, screaming in agony at the high-pitched noises as it disrupted the bond between it and its host.
Peter, finally coming to his senses and regaining control, would rip the Symbiote off himself, and toss it away, returning to his usual self once more.
The Symbiote, angered about how its host had dared to reject her, tries to bond with him once more, only for Ochako to grab a sealed container, one that Overhaul had used to transport and contain Eri's blood and DNA samples, and seal the raging living quirk within.
Almost immediately, Peter, now shed of his Black Suit and back in his civilian clothing, would remember Miles and run to his side alongside Ochako, and the two would find Eri hovering over him, having used her quirk to seal and somewhat reverse Miles' fatal wound.
However, Miles was still drained of blood, and needed a transfusion. Rushing Miles to one of the surgical rooms held within Overhaul's agency, Peter would find a suitable enough tube and give the boy a much needed blood transfusion, no doubt finishing the job and saving his life.
And that is when Peter finally breaks down and cries, allowing himself to be collected into Ochako's arms as he weeps for everything that has happened, all the while the vision of Kazuho smiles and fades away, her soul finally passing on in peace.
Later, when the police and ambulances arrive at Overhaul's agency, Peter and Ochako would walk out with Miles and Eri in their hands, and hand them off to be taken to the hospital. Jefferson Davis and Rio Morales, who was a police officer and nurse respectively, would be filled with joy at seeing their boy alive again, and would thank Peter, who they knew as Spider-Man, joyously, but he would deflect the credit onto Ochako and Eri, who, in his opinion, really saved the day.
Soon enough, Peter and Ochako are approached by an arriving All Might, who takes them away to a nearby rooftop. Peter would express his regret at what he did while he had the Black Suit on, and All Might and Ochako would insist that it is not his fault. However, Peter would bring up Kazuho's death and Miles' maiming, but All Might and Ochako would express their point, something that Peter himself wouldn't be able to believe.
Then, Black Cat arrives on the scene, having finally tracked down both Ochako and Peter when they went off the grid, only to arrive too late to help out, and promptly ignores All Might when he tells her that she is still a wanted criminal, merely daring him to try. Felicia then goes on to hug Ochako, thankful that she's still alive, and then slap Peter for his behaviour, then hug him, to which they both reciprocate.
Soon enough, the subject would come to what to do with the Symbiote, with One for All, and the question would come to whether or not it should be returned to Izuku would be discussed. But when they look into the container and see the swirling, raging mass of black goo inside, and then remember what it did to Peter when he was wearing it and how it immediately abandoned Izuku to jump over to Peter, they decide that they shouldn't give it to Izuku, lest it corrupt him too.
They discuss what to do with it, and All Might decides that they need to contain it properly, as the Symbiote looks like it's trying to break out of the container. It is then that they realise that there is a proper container for it at U.A.. In the aftermath of the I-Island incident, U.A. had begun to purchase and move technology from the artificial island to the school, including the containment units that they'd used to transport the Power Stone and the altered samples of the Green Goblin's blood. One of those containment units was currently in U.A., sitting in the support department's lab. They'd use that, then take it away to a secure facility, possibly I-Island, for study and eventual destruction.
As such, All Might, along with Peter, Ochako, and Felicia, would arrive at U.A. (with Felicia in particular uncaring as to the stares their odd group were receiving from everyone, particularly herself, heading for the support department to seal the Symbiote within, suddenly, they encounter a familiar face.
Izuku, hobbling around on a cane, who has seen the news reports and guessed as to what they were going to do…
And he's here to stop it.
He wants One for All back. He wants his quirk back.
Peter, Ochako, Felicia, and All Might try to tell Izuku that it is a bad idea, that whatever One for All was is long gone, that it's now been corrupted, and will corrupt him like it tried to do with Peter, and Peter himself would try to apologise for what he said and did before, and how Izuku could still be a hero even without One for All, without the Symbiote, like the heroes from his home, like Iron Man, and Hawkeye, and Black Widow…
And that is when Izuku, believing his words to be pitying lies, finally explodes at them, letting out all his rage and resentment that he'd been bottling up for so long. He is angry. Angry at Aldera and Bakugo for bullying and abusing him for so long, at being treated as worthless because of his quirklessness, at always being in Bakugo's shadow…
And now he was angry at Peter for always being in his shadow, even at U.A., always being seen as lesser, as nothing compared to him even when he had a quirk, even when he was chosen to be All Might's successor, at One for All choosing Peter and abandoning him, how Peter had stolen the person that he liked and All Might's attention and admiration…
But most of all, he is angry that, for the first time in his life, the universe had allowed him to be happy, only to it to torment him further by ripping it away from him.
The four visitors try to talk him down, try to make it clear that Peter and Ochako aren't into each other at all, that no one is trying to take anything away from him, but it's too late for any of them now…
The Symbiote finally breaks out of its container and pushes Peter, Felicia, Ochako, and All Might away, and begins to slither over to Izuku.
And, when Ochako weakly begs him to stop, still winded from the Symbiote's attack, Izuku simply declares that he won't be a worthless, quirkless Deku again… and allows One for All, the Symbiote, to bond with him once more.
It covers Izuku in black goo, and turns him into a massive, oily black monster, a hulking beast, an obsidian juggernaut with bright white lenses for eyes, a wide mouth filled with razor-sharp teeth and an elongated tongue, and a bright white spider logo stretching from its chest to its back.
Izuku would be taken over by the Symbiote, and roar at them.
All Might would get up, and try to subdue the monster, but the Symbiote-possessed Izuku would instead catch his attack and throw him away, overpowering the predecessor to One for All and knocking him unconscious, as well as Felicia when the hero is knocked into her. He would then do the same to Peter and Ochako, roaring at them before knocking them out cold.
The Symbiote-possessed Izuku then proceeds to go on a rampage through U.A., attacking anyone that he comes across and mauling any hero student or pro hero that got in his way. Not even the likes of Aizawa's erasure quirk or Midnight's gas was enough to stop him. However, Present Mic's quirk would be enough to temporarily paralyze him, but even that wouldn't stop him and he would continue his rampage, eventually finishing his violent spree and leaving him to leave U.A. in shambles.
However, in the middle of the street, the Symbiote-possessed Izuku would encounter a man, still looking for revenge on Spider-Man.
Norman Osborn, the Green Goblin. He had woken up in the aftermath of Peter and Ochako's battle, and hadn't witnessed Peter ripping off the Symbiote. As such, he doesn't know that Peter is free of the living quirk and would think that this creature that wears the spider logo across him is Spider-Man. He had seen All Might take away Peter and Ochako, and had followed them to U.A., where he hopes to finally enact his revenge upon Peter.
He has nothing left to lose now. Revenge is all he has.
And the Symbiote possessing Izuku, and Izuku himself, would recognise the Green Goblin, and attack.
The Green Goblin and the Symbiote would fight each other in the streets, destroying everything around them in an effort to try and kill the other. The two of them would be uncaring as to any civilians that got in the way, leading to a deluge of nearby spectators being injured during the battle, as well as a lot of property destruction and carnage.
(This is a little deconstruction of the trope 'Apathetic Citizens', in that in MHA, people are always stopping at hero fights to watch and record them, such as in the first chapter of the manga and first episode of the canon, and do so without much care for the fight itself, and never seem to get caught in the carnage themselves. Here, in this fight, with Green Goblin and the Symbiote constantly darting around each other with no heroes to stop them? Civilians are constantly getting caught in the crossfire, getting tossed around like meat shields and left injured and broken.)
In the end, the Symbiote-possessed Izuku overpower Osborn, and defeat him, leaving the villain beaten and broken. And, as the monster sporting the logo of Spider-Man approaches him, running its long tongue over its lips and grabbing his shoulders to pull him up onto his feet, the Green Goblin would suffer, in his delirium, a vision of his wife and son, looking at him, gazing upon him…
And then turning away in disgust.
The Symbiote would bite off the Green Goblin's head, and Osborn would die, finally realising that his quest for revenge was utterly worthless.
Meanwhile, the Symbiote would let out a roar of victory as it consumed the Green Goblin's head, but then Izuku, deep within the Symbiote's control, would realise what they have done and temporarily take control, fleeing from the scene in a panic and retreating to a familiar place of comfort.
Takoba Beach, still as clean as the day that he cleaned it.
Izuku would be dazed and confused, unable to understand what is happening to him, but the Symbiote would begin to comfort him, mimicking the voices Inko, Ochako, Keemia, and All Might in order to manipulate him, distorting and twisting them into making him hold onto his feelings of anger and resentment at the people around them, conjoining them together to allow him to accept the bond between them, the two parties both joining with each other to complete their shared vision.
Izuku wanted to save the world, and the Symbiote wanted to help him.
And they would have their revenge on Peter Parker for spiting them as well.
They would be his venom.
Yes, they would be…
Venom.
You know, I wrote a segment in my 'My Problems with MHA' criticism piece where I talked about how much I didn't like the concept of Villain!Izuku...
I suppose I'm just a hypocrite, aren't I?
But anyway, moving on from that, please introduce this series' version of Venom! From the start, I had wanted to do something unique with the Symbiote instead of the likes of Venom and Carnage just popping up at random and going about their business as if nothing happened, and I wanted to do something unique and different with Izuku as well, and that's when I remembered something:
I've always wanted to see Izuku have a Venom arc.
(I mean, he's inspired by Spider-Man, right? Might as well give him a Venom-like arc and go the full hog, right?)
Like, I remember, after watching Across the Spider-Verse, thinking up a new arc for Izuku where he would be presented with a need to get rid of One for All. I remember making up in my head a storyline where, in the aftermath of the Paranormal Liberation War arc, One for All would begin to slowly kill Izuku in one way or another, probably due to his increased usage and reliance upon it, alongside how much power it had stockpiled from being passed on to different users again and again over the years. Because of this, and because of All for One's resurgence in Japan in the aftermath of the War arc, the heroes would begin to champion the idea of Izuku relinquishing One for All, and handing it off so that when All for One finally strikes, they can use it against him as an effective weapon without it killing anyone, but also because it is itself killing Izuku, and they don't want him to die...
And Izuku would reject this, violently, as he has become too attached to One for All to let it go, and refuses to become quirkless and weak once again. For him, it would be like giving a starving man food, and then taking it away from him. He would escape from the heroes and run away, refusing to give up One for All and going after All for One himself, not caring at all that One for All is killing him, because at least then he would die having a quirk. This would allow us, as readers, to see more layers in Izuku's mindset and personality, and give him some much needed depth to his character.
Like, I would've really loved to see an arc like this in MHA's main story, and it sucks that I've never seen anyone actually do a story like this, because it would be a super interesting concept to explore, and I would read the hell out of it if someone were to write it. It would be one hell of a take on the concept of Villain!Deku, and it would be something that I would actually find a lot of interest in, compared to most over Villain!Deku fics out there.
But moving on, you may notice that a lot of the storyline surrounding Venom has been inspired by Spider-Man 2's (not Marvel's Spider-Man 2, apparently. Marvel's Spider-Man is the name of the 2017 cartoon, which I now know) plotline around Harry and the Symbiote, which I thought was pretty neat. I was also inspired by the fight between Peter and Miles from that same game, which you can see in the battle between Peter and Ochako. Also, in this story, the Green Goblin ended up taking Kraven's place as the one being killed by Venom, as I thought that this would be a good way for his character to go out, humiliated and left with nothing, consumed by revenge, and killed not by his hated arch-nemesis, but someone that he has slighted in the past without ever knowing it.
Also, a fight between Venom and Green Goblin would just be the coolest, wouldn't it?
Also also, Miles was maimed. But don't worry, Peter gave him a blood transfusion, so he'll be fine and definitely won't become an important character in the future.
Also also also, the Tinkerer of this story is based more off the female version of the character, that being Phin Mason from the Spider-Man: Miles Morales game, than the male version from the comics. She also takes the place of Mister Negative in this story, that being someone who has done wrong and is looking to redeem themselves, so that's also cool.
(On a side note, I was really nervous whilst writing her backstory, as I thought that it might be a bit too political for people to enjoy, and I toyed with the idea with making it more fantastical instead, like having Phin's older brother being killed by the Green Goblin instead. However, I felt that the backstory that I've given Phin is more compelling by comparison, as it allows readers to draw parallels to her and build a closer connection to her as a character, so my deepest apologies if I may have offended anyone with this.)
But now, with that, I think we've reached the end of this chapter, so with that said and done, see you next time for the finale of series three, with the aply named arc: Venom!
