Ok. I am not good with writing fight scenes! Not good at all. So I'm sorry that I missed that whole opening scene!

It was now the following year, Steve had moved in with Connie and he's a renter for one of the bedrooms. At Stark Industries Connie now has Pepper's job as assistant.

Steve sat alone in the meeting room of the Avengers Tower.

"11 Wakandans were among those killed during a confrontation between the Avengers and a group of mercenaries in Lagos, Nigeria last month." The news anchor reports. "The traditionally reclusive Wakandans were on an outreach mission in Legos, when the attack occurred."

"Our people's blood is spilled on foreign soil." The king of Wakanda says as he stood at a podium. "Not only because of the actions of criminals, but by the indifference of those pledged to stop them. Victory at the expense of the innocent is no victory at all."

"The Wakandan king went on to."-

Steve lifts the remote and presses the power button, setting down the remote and sat in silence. Until he heard the news coming from Wanda's room. Getting up from the table, Steve makes his way towards her room.

"What legal authority does an enhanced individual like Wanda Maximoff have to operate in Nigeri."-

Steve had turned off her TV as the remote had been near the door. Wanda is sitting on her bed, the pain and guilt loomed over her.

"It's my fault." She said.

"That's not true." Steve denies.

"Turn the TV back on. They're being very specific." The teen told him. Steve moves to sit next to her.

"Rumlow said 'Bucky' … and all of a sudden I was a 16 year-old kid again in Brooklyn. It's on both of us."

Wanda looks down.

"This job." Steve began after a long pause. "We try to save as many people as we can. Sometimes that doesn't mean everybody."

Suddenly Vision phases into Wanda's room through the wall, starling her.

"Vis!" She scolds him. "We talked about this!"

"Yes, but the door was open so I assumed that." Vision looks between her and Steve, Steve with his eyebrows raised in shock, he realizes this wasn't the time. So he awkwardly gestures to Steve. "Captain Rogers wished to know when Mr. Stark was arriving."

"Thank you." Steve nods. "We'll be right down."

"I'll, use the door." Vision continued to be awkward as he moves to the open door, but pauses and turns slightly. "Oh, and apparently he's brought a guest."

"We know who it is?" Steve asks.

"The Secretary of State."

Steve hangs his head.

The Avengers sat around the table in the meeting room, Connie sat between Natasha and Sam.

"I had a heart attack and dropped right there in the middle of my backswing. Turned out it was the best day of my life because after 13 hours of surgery and a triple bypass, I found something 40 years in the Army had never taught me. Perspective. The world owes the Avengers an unplayable debt. You have fought for us, risked your lives."-

"Pardon me sir, but I'm not liking your tone." Connie said, trying to keep the ice out of her own tone.

"Young lady, I'd hold your tongue." Ross warned.

Connie stiffened and slowly started to rise, but Sam grabs her arm.

"Don't." He tells her in a whisper.

Tony, who was sitting behind Steve, saw the tension. "Connie, why don't you head towards the kitchen, grab us all some refreshments?" He suggests.

Connie slowly nods. "Sure, be right back with that order." She stands, but also gives Ross a heated deadly glare before she starts to take her leave. "Bring back a knife and castrate Ross." She whispers, passing Steve. With his enhanced hearing he heard it and he tried to fight off a smile.

A few hours later. Connie walks into the meeting room, she could feel the tension in the room and no Steve. "Uh, hi guys." She hesitates.

"Hey girl." Sam approaches her and she frowns.

"What's going on?" She asks.

"Stark's forcing us to take sides." Sam sent a glare at Tony, the Falcon took the inside of Connie's elbow, turning her around. "Steve went this way." He leads her out of the room from another entrance.

Once in the hall, Sam lets go of Connie as they find Steve, leaning against a flight of stairs with his head hung.

"The last time I saw that look on is face, was when his mother died." She told Sam.

"But you and Barnes are the only ones he knows in this world." He frowns, and it deepens when he saw her shake her head.

"Peggy Carter." Suddenly it hit, and realization slammed into Connie. "Oh no!" She gasps, she walks up to Steve. "Stevie?" She rests her hand on his shoulder.

He took a few deep breaths. "Peggy. She." It took him sometime to calm himself. "She." He couldn't.

"Don't strain yourself." Connie orders gently. "I'm so sorry."

Steve could only nod, Sam approaches.

"Come on guys. I'll take you home." He offers, seeing not just Steve was rattled but Connie too.

"Thanks Sam." She smiled a little.
