The eyes of the locals will not befall upon these parchment pages. My hope is to relieve my mind of hypothetical ideas and speculations. Unfortunately, our dystopian society belittles any verbal exclaims related to my research, and may result in my demise. These files are to be kept secret beyond my grave. They will not be inherited down my family tree: They'd face persecution of the worst kind if found out. I sincerely hope whoever's in possession of my files are literate enough to perceive my words: Keep these pages under lock and key! Don't speak of them to a single soul! You won't face the consequences of my actions so long as the church remains oblivious to the existence of these files.
The wonders of our world amazes me. The ambiguous dwellers possess abilities beyond my recognition. Even a lifetime's worth of research would amount to little development of our current understanding of them; it doesn't help that I'm operating my analyzes with less than ideal circumstances. The futility of my effort sadeness me, but I digress. I, at the very least, hope to bring a headstart to those courageous enough to carry on my research.
The aptitude of the world's creatures vary significantly amongst every unique specimen. Through months of research I've concluded that there's three things that define their area of expertise: Their adaptation to the surrounding environment; their ability to directly influence their environment; and the properties behind their biology. From here on I will be referring to these three as 'knack', 'initiative' and 'epitome' respectively; the ladder of which will be the main subject behind my research going forward.
The creatures' epitomes are very complex. For quite some time I was bewildered by the contradictory nature of their epitomes: One specimen manifested distinct traits related to their epitome, and then another manifested similar traits, yet embodied attributes present in epitomes of other species.
I spent long, restless nights speculating till I established a hypothesis. After about a month of evaluation and research, I had proven my theory correct: The epitomes of a creature provides a general idea of the species attributes. But the attributes of these creatures aren't always derived from one epitome; my research suggests that some species bear two epitomes (and I theorize there's potential for three, or maybe even four, but I have not encountered such a species up to this point). I have yet to conclude why that is, or how it's possible, but this allows me to divide the creatures' epitomes into categories; though I will have to return to that concept at a later date. I must allow myself proper rest before I'm ready to continue my research. I've drawn this out for far longer than necessary, and my spouse is growing rather concerned for my well-being.
This is only the beginning of my contribution to the scientific community. I expect great things to come from my research once scientists are accepted into society, whether the day be decades, or even millenia away.
