I do not own the Boy vs. Girls Series.
Tony POV:
Standing in the middle of the stage was Beth. I was getting a little bit bored when this guy in the middle of the instrument stage came down and held Beth's hand, holding it up.
Song: Forever and For Always by Shania Twain (this song was my parents first dance song btw)
Recording: In your arms/I can still feel the way you want me when you hold me/ I can still hear the words you whispered when you told me/I can stay right here forever in your arms
Beth and the brown-haired boy started to slow dance to the song. I looked over to Josh.
Josh POV:
Beth: And there ain't no way/I'm letting you go now/And there ain't no way/ And there ain't no how
I feel a pang of jealousy watching Beth and the boy dance together.
Beth and Logan: I'll never see that day
The boy spun Beth around as they harmonized. I saw Eddie and Caroline and another girl with dark hair in the wings entering the stage.
Everyone(-Logan and Beth): 'Cause I'm keeping you forever and for always/ We will be together all of our days/ Wanna wake up every morning to your sweet face/ Always
Beth and the boy kept dancing until Beth saw the girl who stopped us earlier enter the stage. Beth ran and gave her a big hug and they started to dance sillily around the stage.
Mrs. Lasheè behind us started to wipe her eyes. I wondered why until I looked up and saw the projection behind the performance. In the projection, was an old home video of a wedding reception with a young Mr and Mrs. Malloy dancing around. The kids onstage were replicating the video.
Recording: In your heart/ I can still hear a beat for every time you kiss me/ And when we're apart, I know how much you miss me/ I can feel your love for me in your heart
The fact that they were replicating the old video was that when a young girl was asking another guy to dance with her, Caroline did it too, and the guy in the video and the one on stage both reluctantly agreed. Eddie seemed to laugh over at Beth and the other girl who were still dancing sillily until the brown haired boy came over and stole Beth away from her.
Camilla POV:
This, I think, is our most meaningful piece. Suddenly, Eddie's behind me acting like her Aunt Tricia at her parents wedding reception telling my mom about the arrival of my dad. I noticed Harley walking in from the wings and did my best to act a little bit flustered. Caroline was smiling along with James, who looked like he was grumbling away. I go over to Harley and pull him to the "dance floor".
I notice my mom in the crowd, all the way in the back, like always, wiping away a tear. Beth and Logan are still dancing in the middle of the stage, singing their hearts out.
EVERYONE: And there ain't no way (And there ain't no way)/I'm letting you go now/And there ain't no way (And there ain't no way)/And there ain't no how/I'll never see that day
We continue to slow dance and be spin around as Esla tears back onto the stage, fashionably late.
EVERYONE: 'Cause I'm keeping you forever and for always/We will be together all of our days/Wanna wake up every morning to your sweet face/Always
Beth and Logan harmonized and Caroline and James and Harley and I stop and watch them. I pretend to wipe away a tear and Esla comes up to me and pretends to whisper something in my ear. I smile and continue to watch Beth and Logan. Esla, playing the role of Tia Jean's sister, Millie, pulls me toward them and I grab Harley also pulling him.
EVERYONE: In your eyes (I can still see the look of the one)/I can still see the look of the one who really loves me/(I can still feel the way that you want)/The one who wouldn't put anything else in the world above me/(I can still see love for me) I can still see love for me in your eyes/(I still see the love)
Caroline and James look at Eddie who leaves the instrument stage and follows them to the middle.
EVERYONE: 'Cause I'm keeping you forever and for always/We will be together all of our days/Wanna wake up every morning to your sweet face/I'm keeping you forever and for always/We will be together all of our days/Wanna wake up every morning to your sweet face/I'm keeping you forever and for always/I'm keeping you forever/Got to keep you, baby/Oh, forever/In your arms
The song ends and we all stand in the middle holding each other as if we're taking a picture.
Logan, James, and Harley set up for the next song which is Country Girls by Luke Bryan.
Song: Country Girls by Luke Bryan
Recording: Hey girl, go on now/ You know you've got everybody lookin'
Wally POV:
The next song started playing with the three boys in the middle of the stage.
Logan: Got a little boom in my big truck/ Gonna open up the doors and turn it up
James: Gonna stomp my boots in the Georgia mud/ Gonna watch you make me fall in love
Harley: Get up on the hood of my daddy's tractor/ Up on the toolbox, it don't matter
All: Down on the tailgate, girl I can't wait/ To watch you do your thing
I notice Eddie, Beth, and Caroline enter the stage again behind the boys.
All guys(alternating cause I ain't writing allat): Shake it for the young bucks sittin' in the honky-tonks/ For the rednecks rockin' 'til the break of dawn/ For the DJ spinnin' that country song/ Come on, come on, come on/ Shake it for the birds, shake it for the bees/ Shake it for the catfish swimmin' down deep in the creek/ For the crickets and the critters and the squirrels/ Shake it to the moon, shake it for me, girl, aww
I look over to Bill and Danny who are sitting next to me. They were watching but looked bored.
All on stage: Country girl, shake it for me, girl/ Shake it for me, girl, shake it for me/ Country girl, shake it for me, girl/ Shake it for me, girl, shake it for me
The girls went through the dance I could see, but Caroline was putting her all in it while Eddie and Beth were lazily dancing. Classic Caroline, I thought.
Logan: Somebody's sweet little farmer's child/ With a gattle in her Bud to get a little wild
James: Pony tail and a pretty smile/ Rope me in from a country mile
Harley: So come on over here and get in my arms/ Spin me around this big 'ole barn
The Malloy girls all got spun around by the boys.
All boys: Tangle me up like grandma's yarn/ Yeah, yeah, yeah
They repeated the chorus once more and did a similar dance.
All boys: Now dance like a dandelion/ In the wind on the hill underneath the pines, yea/ Move like the river flows/ Feel the kick drum down deep in your toes/ All I wanna do is get to holdin' you and get to knowin' you/ And get to showin' you and get to lovin' you 'fore the night is through/ Baby, you know what to do
The Malloy Farms Performers sang the chorus for the last time before the song ended and the girls had their hands out to the sides and were facing sideways in the same direction.
Caroline POV:
My sisters and I were waiting for our next song to start and then it did, so we faced the audience.
Song: Girls Round Here by bookgirl886 (thx for the song!)
Eddie: Well, we like to dance, but we don't stand around in a prissy stance.
Beth: We talk about guys and we talk about clothes, but still, we think that nobody knows.
Caroline: We'd rather listen to old country songs on the radio, than listen to hip hop on the stereo. We're the girls who run the world,
All: and our hair doesn't even have to be curled.
My sisters and I jump off the stage into the middle of our barn and we start our dance.
All: Well, the girls 'round here love to keep it real, like it ain't no big deal.
Eddie: We like livin' on the edge
Beth: it's our right
Caroline: our pledge.
All: While we're out at night, every worry is out of mind, out of sight. We don't have a thing to worry about, we don't have a single doubt.
Beth nudged me in the middle of the dance and motioned with her head to the back, where Tía Selena and Tío Nick always sit. I saw them and a few other people I'd never thought I'd see again.
Eddie: Well, we love to hunt and fish,
Beth: and we don't have any other wish.
Caroline: We long for the summer sun,
Beth: cause that's where we have all our fun.
Beth: We'd rather lay in the sun and tan,
Eddie and Caroline: than try and impress some man!
All: We're our own person, and we're oh so certain.
Our dance reflected the lyrics, Eddie going to the right where her baseball team was sitting and pretending to fish. I went to the left, over to them, and pretended to look for the sun. Eddie and I hopped off the bar top and hid behind the actual bar where Beth was laying down on the swinging door, pretending to tan when we came up behind her and ran back to the middle.
As we prepare for the bridge, we go back to the stage.
Eddie: But, we're the girls round here, and you better watch us put our trucks in gear.
Beth: We'll shine like a light,
Caroline: and you better close your eyes,
Beth and Caroline: cause we're gonna shine bright.
All: We know what we're doing and we're gonna keep on moving
For the final chorus we stand dead center, with Beth in the middle of course, and practically shout at the audience.
All: Well, the girls 'round here love to keep it real, like it ain't no big deal. We like livin' on the edge, it's our right, our pledge. While we're out at night, every worry is out of mind, out of sight.
We start walking offstage slowly, singing our hearts out.
All: So here's to the girls who live their life, to the ones who have no strife. They don't need a guy, just to help them understand why. They know they're the girls around here, and they're coming in good and clear.
The spotlights go out and it's just me, standing center stage, facing away from the audience in pitch black darkness. The stage lights turn on, revealing my silhouette.
Song: Before He Cheats by Carrie Underwood
Still facing away from the audience, I start to sing a cappella.
Caroline: Right now, he's probably slow dancing/ With a bleached-blonde tramp/ And she's probably getting frisky
I turn towards the audience and wait for a few extra measures.
Caroline: Right now, he's probably buying her some fruity little drink/ 'Cause she can't shoot a whiskey
After another extra measure, I stomp loudly once and shout while I sing the next line.
Caroline: Right now, he's probably up behind her with a pool-stick/ Showing her how to shoot a combo
I smirk during the extra measure before I sing the next line with a confident belt.
Caroline: And he don't know~!
The music starts at the chorus and I let loose.
Caroline: I dug my key into the side/ Of his pretty little souped up four-wheel drive/ Carved my name into his leather seats
Eddie and Beth sneak back onstage while I'm singing and are situated closer to the audience.
Eddie: I took a Louisville Slugger to both headlights
Beth: Slashed a hole in just 3 tires
They both sing with devilish little grins and then they turn to me.
Caroline: Maybe next time, he'll think before he cheats
Caroline: Right now, she's probably up singing some/ White-trash version of Shania karaoke
Beth: Right now, she's probably saying, "I'm drunk"/ And he's a thinking that he's gonna get lucky
All: Right now,
Eddie: he's probably dabbing on/ Three dollars worth of that bathroom Polo
Caroline: Oh, and he don't know/ Oh, that I dug my key into the side/ Of his pretty little souped up four-wheel drive/ Carved my name into his leather seats
Eddie: I took a Louisville Slugger to both headlights
Beth: Slashed a hole in just 3 tires
Caroline: Maybe he'll think before he cheats.
I giddily skip to the front of the stage and sing.
Caroline: I might've saved a little trouble for the next girl/ 'Cause the next time that he cheats/ Oh, you know it won't be on me/ No, not on me
Caroline: 'Cause I dug my key into the side/ Of his pretty little souped up four-wheel drive/ Carved my name into his leather seats
Eddie: I took a Louisville Slugger to both headlights
Beth: Slashed a hole in just 3 tires
Caroline: Maybe next time, he'll think before he cheats/ Oh, maybe next time, he'll think before he cheats/ Oh, before he cheats
The song ends, lights go out and Beth and I run off stage.
Jake POV:
Song: Picture to Burn by Taylor Swift
Eddie was standing in the middle of the stage. I was glad to see not much has changed about her. I mean, sure she was singing in front of a ton of people, but she had the glean in her eyes, the smirk, her hat, and, let's be real, not a single skirt on sight. More or less, she was the same person.
Eddie: State the obvious, I didn't get my perfect fantasy/ I realize you love yourself more than you could ever love me
I furrow my brows at the song she's singing. This is not how I remembered her.
Eddie: So go and tell your friends that I'm obsessive and crazy/ That's fine, you won't mind if I say/ By the way
A girl I don't recognize walks in from the right and one of the guys from earlier walks in from the left.
Eddie, James, and Brittany(another cousin): I hate that stupid old pickup truck you never let me drive/ You're a redneck heartbreak who's really bad at lyin'/ So watch me strike a match on all my wasted time
Eddie: As far as I'm concerned, you're just another picture to burn
I look over to Josh in a confused manner. When did Eddie care about something like that?
Eddie POV:
I think back to this morning when I was helping teach some horseback riding to the younger kids of Beth's class, when my guy best friend Zac, who's a year older than me, came up to me. He randomly confessed and got angry at me when I said I didn't feel the same, told me I was the worst person he'd ever met and stormed off. He also said he'd never wanted to see me again, but look who's sitting in the audience right now? I grit my teeth and mentally applaud my cousins for learning this choreo and song on such a short note.
Eddie: There's no time for tears, I'm just sittin' here planning my revenge
Brittany: There's nothing stoppin' me from goin' out with all of your best friends
Eddie: And if you come around sayin' sorry to me
James: My grandma's gonna show ya how sorry you'll be
I notice Zac in the back near my baseball team looking around uncomfortably. Good, I think.
Eddie: 'Cause I hate that stupid old pickup truck you never let me drive
I really, really, really hated his truck. It smelled of cigarettes because it was a used truck.
James: You're a redneck heartbreak who's really bad at lyin'
Zac lived in the country, like me and my sisters. However, this time, I didn't need my sisters to see through his obvious lies.
Brittany: So watch me strike a match on all my wasted time
15 years to be exact, I think
Eddie: As far as I'm concerned, you're just another picture to burn
I got down from the stage and walked to the middle of the barn, watching the fear in Zac's eyes.
Eddie: And if you're missing me, you'd better keep it to yourself/ 'Cause coming back around here would be bad for your health
I looked up to the ceiling.
Eddie: 'Cause I hate that stupid old pickup truck you never let me drive/ You're a redneck heartbreak who's really bad at lyin'
I look down and locked eyes with Zac for a split second and then turned to run back to the stage.
Eddie: So watch me strike a match on all my wasted time/ In case you haven't heard
Eddie, James, and Brittany: I really, really hate that stupid old pickup truck you never let me drive/ You're a redneck heartbreak who's really bad at lyin'/ So watch me strike a match on all my wasted time
Eddie: As far as I'm concerned, you're just another picture to burn
Beth ran giddily onto the stage with a lighter and an old photo of me and Zac on a baseball field. My eyes wanted to well up seeing it, but I willed my face to not cry. 15 years of friendship; all down the drain. Luckily the photo was a copy, but I wanted to see his reaction when Beth burned it.
Eddie: Burn, burn, burn, baby, burn/ You're just another picture to burn/ Baby, burn
As I sung, Beth lights the lighter, puts the fire on the picture, and hands me the burning photograph. I hold it high up in the air and rip off my necklace, which Zac made for me on my 13th birthday. As the photo is almost burnt up, I throw it and the necklace to the ground. When the song ends and the lights go out, my cousins help me quickly get the items on the ground and run off the stage to the nearest trash can. I keep sniffling and my eyes are getting blurry. I don't even realize I'm crying until my cousins give me a hug and I burst out sobbing.
Beth POV:
After Eddie leaves the stage, I take the middle and wait for the applause to die down. I decide to take this time to see them. I was the first to notice them when I was looking for Tía Selena where she usually sits. Jake looked a little bewildered, I guess, at the type of song Eddie just sang. Josh looks completely fed up with Jake right now, Steve and Tony are doing their best not to laugh, Wally, Bill and Danny look pretty bored, and Peter and Doug are hanging on to every song.
I smile as I hear my music start.
Song: That Don't Impress Me Much by Shania Twain
I sit down, criss-crossed, in the middle of the stage.
Beth: I've known a few guys who thought they were pretty smart/ But you've got being right down to an art/ You think you're a genius, you drive me up the wall/ You're a regular original, a know-it-all
I get up from my sitting position to stand.
Beth: Oh-oh, you think you're special/ Oh-oh, you think you're something else
I roll my eyes at the cheers from Eddie's baseball team.
Beth: Okay, so you're a rocket scientist
I jump off the stage and go into my dance.
Beth: That don't impress me much
Beth: So you got the brains, but have you got the touch?/ Now, don't get me wrong—yeah, I think you're alright/ But that won't keep me warm in the middle of the night/ That don't impress me much/ Uh-huh, yeah, yeah
I wait a second before the next verse to take in the Hatfords reactions. They all looked very shocked.
Beth: I never knew a guy who carried a mirror in his pocket/ And a comb up his sleeve—just in case/ And all that extra hold gel in your hair oughta lock it/ 'Cause heaven forbid it should fall outta place
Beth: Oh-oh, you think you're special/ Oh-oh, you think you're something else
Beth:Okay, so you're on my sister's team.
I look over at the team. The team looked shocked and pointed to the guy who been trying to get with me since forever.
Beth: That don't impress me much (Oh, oh, ooh)/ So you got the looks, but have you got the touch?/ Now, don't get me wrong—yeah, I think you're alright/ But that won't keep me warm in the middle of the night/ That don't impress me much/ Yeah
Beth:You're one of those guys who likes to shine his machine/ You make me take off my shoes before you let me get in/ I can't believe you kiss your car good night/ Now, come on, baby, tell me, you must be joking, right?
Beth: Oh-oh, you think you're something special/ Oh-oh, you think you're something else
Beth: Okay, so you've got a car
Beth: That don't impress me much (Oh, oh, ooh)/ So you got the moves, but have you got the touch?/ Now, don't get me wrong—yeah, I think you're alright/ But that won't keep me warm in the middle of the night
Beth: That don't impress me much (That don't impress me)/ Oh, oh no, you think you're cool, but have you got the touch?/ Now, now, don't get me wrong—yeah, I think you're alright/ But that won't keep me warm on the long, cold, lonely night
Logan: That don't impress her much/ Uh-huh, yeah, yeah
Beth: Okay, so what do you think, you're Elvis or something?/ Whatever/ That don't impress me
As my song faded away, the next one started up and Eddie, Felicia and Cam were waiting in the wings.
The lights went black as they made their way onstage.
And that's the chapter!!! (This chapter is way above the word count I set for chapters lol)
