Bittersweet Vengeance-Ch 11
The next few weeks passed by fast with both Savannah and the team staying busy with work but over that time Derek had invited her to join them on drink nights, it seemed that he liked having her around, he liked having somebody to talk to but sadly the only thing he wanted to talk about was Penelope and how much he missed her.
Savannah knew that if she wanted to be a part of his life that she would have to be there to listen to all of Penelope stories because that is what he needed and she hoped that when she came back to town that he would snap out of it and take her to his bed, if not because he loved her, because he needed her.
The team hated it when she joined them, they never liked Savannah but they had always tolerated her because of Derek but when Derek and Penelope were together they were perfection, they were destined to be together, they always had been and now that she was gone they knew that Derek needed somebody to talk too and sadly that person, at least for now was Savannah.
Derek had driven her home one night and had been invited inside, he walked in and looked around and said, "you have a beautiful home", she said, "thanks" as they made their way across the room and sat down on the couch, she said, "so how are you doing?", he said, "I'm okay, well not okay but I'm surviving and part of that reason is because of you and I want to thank you".
She said, "thank me?", he put his hand on hers and said, "yes, because I don't know where I would be without my friends and you Savannah have been one of my biggest means of support so for that I thank you", she wanted to scream, why was it that every time they were together he kept throwing that word around, friend, friend, friend.
Savannah smiled and then leaned in and gently brushed her lips against Dereks, the second their lips touched he stiffened out and pulled away, she said, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean" and then he leaned in and claimed her lips with his in a soft kiss, it was like he was testing the waters so to speak and kissing her, kissing a woman that wasn't Penelope felt, well it felt wrong.
He said,"I'm sorry I just can't", he stood up and quickly made his way across the room and said, "goodnight Savannah" before walking out the door, shutting it behind him, she laid her head back against the couch and said, "nice move Savannah, really nice, way to go", she then smiled as she touched her lips, he'd kissed her, he'd actually kissed her, things were working out good and she knew that Sam and Penelope were coming home today so this kiss couldn't have happened at a better time.
As she glanced down on the couch she saw his watch, she picked it up and said, "this gives me an excuse to go see him tomorrow and considering his baby girl is coming back, that will give me a good seat to watch the fireworks, she laughed and slapped her hands together, she then said, "life is good, life is good".
The next morning she had the morning off and after getting a text from Sam letting her know that they were heading to the BAU she grabbed her things and Derek's watch and quickly made her way to her car, she had to get there first, she couldn't miss this, she couldn't miss what was getting ready to happen.
Meanwhile at the BAU the team was laughing and making plans for the weekend, Fran had invited everybody over for a cookout and they were discussing what they were bringing, Derek was looking at Emily and JJ when they suddenly stopped talking, he said,"what's wrong, hellooooooo?" as he waved his hand in front of their faces.
JJ said, "Savannah's here", Derek said, "she's here?" as he turned to see her walking toward them, she said, "you forgot this at my place last night", he said, "ahhhh, okay, thank you" as he took the watch, he could tell that his friends thought that he'd spent the night with Savannah, a thought that he would make clear a little later.
They were all standing there talking when Reid said, "Garcia", Derek said, "baby girl, what about her?", Reid pointed and said, "she she's here", Derek said, "she's here", he smiled and turned around but that smile fell when he saw her standing with Sam and as his eyes scanned her body he couldn't help but miss one thing.
He swallowed hard and his eyes got big when he saw the growing baby bump, his baby girl, the woman that had been missing for months was suddenly standing in front of him but she wasn't alone, she was with her ex and she, she was pregnant, the love of his life was pregnant with another mans child and seeing that his heart shattered into a million pieces.
Savannah stepped forward and intertwined fingers with him and needed the support he gently squeezed her hand as the tears slid down his cheeks, Savannah inwardly smiled and said, "perfect, perfectttttttt", she then glanced at Sam and Penelope who were standing there talking to Erin Strauss".
Dave looked at Hotch and said, "what's going on?", Hotch said, "I wish I knew Dave, I wish I knew", Erin looked at Hotch and motioned for him to join them, he said, "but I'm getting ready to find out" as he left the team and walked over to the trio that had been talking across the room.
