SirBobbo's Notes: Heya.
Short chapter, consider it a teaser for a future chapter. I wanted the title to originally be "Behold, The Almighty Dragon! 'MAO'" But the character limit didn't let me, so I had to shorten it, a little bummed about it.
Besides that, Hope y'all like the chapter.
I'd appreciate any comments about it, if there's something you liked, don't be shy in sharing it.
If there's something you didn't like, don't hesitate to share that either, I only ask you to be polite.
Happy reading.
Do you ever look upon the stars?
Do you ever raise your hand to grasp the night sky?
Do you ever wish you could fly?
Do you ever wonder if you could control the elements?
Do you ever dream of a perfect world?
…
Do you ever imagine if the impossible-was possible?
…
I was ridiculed, time and time again by my peers during my youth. They thought I was stupid. They thought I was foolish. They thought I was delusional. Mad. Ignorant. Brainless. Naive. Slow. And worst of all, dragon food.
No one believed me, yet I couldn't blame them. Who could believe a young boy's dream in slaying a dragon? Something so-unbelievable. Unthinkable. Unimaginable…
They called it a pipe dream, I called it a vision.
That one day.
Humanity will rise above the dragons, reach greater heights than any dragon ever could. Humanity will reach for the mountains. Humanity will reach for the clouds. Humanity will reach for the sky. Humanity will reach for the stars.
One day.
Humanity will have this world in their reigns, forcing it to bend to our will.
One day.
Humanity will own the sky.
One day.
Humanity will be the sole inhabitants of these lands.
One day.
Humanity will solely inherit the world, like our God intended.
One. Day.
All of these foul beasts will be slain…
…
That begins today.
Dragonslayers.
For centuries, humanity owned the dragons. Using them for battle. Labor. Contests. Feasts, and entertainment.
But during those years, humanity became soft. Completely reliant on dragons.
It was a weakness, and the dragons took advantage of it.
So at the perfect opportunity…
The dragons attacked in unison, catching humanity off guard. Exacting their vengeance, releasing their pent up rage and sorrow on their masters. No human was spared, and no mercy was shown.
And what was the result?
Kingdoms that were built over centuries, were destroyed in mere hours. Nothing but ash and rubble left in the dragons' wake, only the lucky survived.
My mother was one of them.
I was unfortunate enough to be born in the ashes of the past, with a few other unlucky souls that shared my same fate. We grew together, we survived together, we did everything together. Anything to ensure our survival, as a human race.
Every time we had to hide from the dragons, my hate for them grew. With every death of a member. With every cry of anguish from my beloved mother. With every blow they dealt to my people…
I began to hate the dragons with every fiber of my being.
Things had to change, they needed to. I refused to have my children, grandchildren, great grandchildren to live in this world ruled by the beasts.
No…
I realized.
I needed to change, to adapt to this new world…
Alone, I trained. Alone, I fought. Alone, I cried. Alone, I screamed. Alone, I lost. Alone, I won. Alone, I conquered.
…
The dragons can take our kingdom, people, territory, family, and dreams…
But they can't take our will.
And because of that.
I, Indomitable, Alone… slayed a dragon.
Remember this, future generations. Remember the glory humanity achieved, do not let it die!
Remember our feats of strength!
Remember the courage of our fallen brethren!
Remember the dreams we all once shared!
Remember the reason why we fight against the dragons!
Remember!
Remember that no matter how fearsome of a dragon you find yourself against…
Nothing is more daunting to them, than our will to fight!
…
May the strength of the past Dragonslayers be given to whomever reads this.
Indomitable, The One With Unbreakable Will.
"… 'May the strength of the past Dragonslayers be given to whomever reads this…'"
A heavy sigh escaped the reader, looking down at the old worn scroll in his palms. He reread that particular sentence over and over again, before tossing the scroll aside, landing on his large bed.
Indomitable… you liar! I never felt any stronger than before!
The young man groaned, with both hands on his face as he leaned back on his chair, utterly frustrated. His furry little companion noticed his distress, and mewed for his attention.
After a moment of frustration, the young man felt the feline shift on his lap, along with her meows. "Dragon?" He said, pulling his hands away and glancing down at his dearest and most trusted friend. "… I know I shouldn't get too worked up about this…" He exhaled, shaking his head, his eyes falling on an antique sword hung on his wall. "… but I'm running out of options…"
"Maoo."
"Dragon, are you trying to get me disowned? no I can't sleep in!"
"Mao mao."
"What are you saying?! What would my father think if I gave him a dead rat?! He'd probably make me eat it as punishment!"
"Mew, mao mao… meowwww… mew."
"Did you seriously suggest ME to challenge my father for the throne, and appoint YOU as Queen of the kingdom?!"
"Mew."
"DRAGON-!"
"MAO… Mao… mew mew, meow."
"… how generous, you'll let me be your personal butler-?"
"-Mao."
"… My father was right, I should've stopped spoiling you…"
"Mao."
Shivering in fear at his feline compadre on his lap, he gingerly held Dragon as he stood up, and carefully laid her in his bed. "Okay… okay… I was just joking! Dragon, don't give me that face!"
Dragon gave him the side-eye, then a meager "meow." She then turned and made herself comfortable on his pillows, becoming a large orange loaf of fuzziness.
A soft breath of relief parted from his lips, and his eyes fell on the worn scroll on the bed.
I just wasted my time with that, again…
The young man wanted nothing but an idea, something to do, to prove himself worthy of being called the Lord's son! And what's the best way to go about that? There were a couple ways; challenging his father in a duel, becoming a champion, executing someone in public or infiltrating a dragon kingdom and stealing their precious gems. But those weren't the best...
That would be slaying a dragon!
…
If only he knew how to slay a dragon.
No one in the kingdom ever slain one, and he's not even sure if his father ever slayed one either. With no one to go to for advice, he went to the scrolls in the hopes of some guidance. And under the deepest and darkest corners of their archives, he found this scroll. Belonging to a Dragonslayer named Indomitable, from long ago.
Astonishingly, it didn't guide him at all.
In fact he read it dozens of times over the years as he matured into a young man. He read it so many times that he memorized it completely, yet absolutely nothing from the scroll really stuck with him.
He wished it bore actual dragonslaying tips and tricks, like where to aim for with a sword or an arrow. Maybe a secret dragonslaying stance a warrior must use to take one down, or at least a cool story about slaying a dragon.
And the unfortunate part was that it's the only scroll the kingdom had, a full one that is, that pertains to anything dragonslaying related. On the other hand, they had short excerpts of scrolls that did contain dragonslaying stories, but they withered, and were hardly legible.
So he was stuck with this.
However, there was one thing that intrigued him.
Will.
What does that mean?
After years of reading this same scroll over and over, studying it in the hopes of finding the secret to dragonslaying. Spending night and day, dedicating copious amounts of time and energy…
It's safe to say he had zero clue.
Will… What does will have to do with slaying a dragon?
He still had much to digest about it. He could ask his father for advice, but he'd rather be caught dead than to somehow disappoint him for the dozenth time with a question.
Knock knock knock.
His mind recoiled back to current reality, turning his head to the door. Once the knocks registered in his mind, he fixed his robes and looked around his room, making sure it wasn't too dirty in case his father wanted to pay a visit to him, which was rare, but a necessary precaution.
Looking around the room he saw the scales he had collected from a "friend" long ago still shining in its brilliance, knitted into a scaly blanket of sorts. The sword wasn't tilted, his bed wasn't messy, and even Dragon had been bathed and properly groomed.
Fixing his expression into that of a serious one, he went to the door, and answered it.
"Undauntable."
The man standing before him said, glancing up at the prince. "Your father demands your presence, now."
Undauntable kept his gaze firm on the head butler of the kingdom, noting the seriousness in his expression.
"Sharp," Undauntable said firmly, as per habit. But he couldn't help the flinch that slowly appeared on his face, tilting his head slightly. "Is it… something bad…?" He asked, uncharacteristically timidly. Sharp is one of the few individuals in the kingdom that Undauntable could let himself show a bit of vulnerability, Sharp practically raised him, he saw Undauntable at his highest and lowest.
Most importantly, Undauntable trusted him.
Sharp exhaled softly, shaking his head, reading into Unduantable's expression easily. "Your highness, no, your father isn't mad at you… nor are you in trouble of any sort."
"I-I wasn't worried about that!"
"I see," said Sharp, a short amused smile appeared on his lips. "Nonetheless, you should see to it now, it's quite a… interesting situation that occurred."
"Whatever do you mean?" Undauntable wondered, nothing really interesting occurs in the kingdom…
Until two nights ago, a dragon skull was delivered. The origins of it weren't completely known, or rather it wasn't believed. Supposedly, a Great Dragonslayer slayed the dragon. In which a family took part of its remains, and sold the head, along with beverages that contained dragon essence inside and weapons the slayer had used. Undauntable immediately assumed the story to be another fraudulent one. Renowned stories of Dragonslayers were commonly proved to be hoaxes or frauds in this day of age, but with the added addition of the dragon skull, it fell into the realm of possibility.
According to the report of Daring. Unstoppable, one of the Champions of Undauntable's father, took it upon himself to investigate the true nature of its origins, and promised to have that done in a day.
You see, two days have passed…
After the first day of silence, a search party was sent to locate Unstoppable's position, to check if he was knocked out drunk in Hidey Hole or simply lost in the woods. They promised to return in a week, sooner if they found him. And now it's been two days, and there hasn't been any update…
"The search party returned-"
Till now.
SirBobbo's Notes: Yurr.
I'd like to begin with, saying that the next chapter WILL be a dragon chapter! I know I've wrote a crap ton about humans, and honestly I've been having fun with them. But I promise the next few will be dragon related, to make up for the lack of content with them.
What did you guys think of Undauntable? I know it's a pretty short chapter, and there isn't much Undauntable content in it, but I'd still appreciate any feedback. Since this is based five years or so in the future, he's grown, so I'm not planning to write him exactly how he was in the books. I have an idea for his character in this universe, personality wise, I just hope I execute it well enough.
Dragon is pretty cool.
I can't wait to get into more battles, man vs dragon battles in particular, I don't know if that counts as a spoiler but It's kinda expected in this sort of story I'm writing with humans vs dragons. But that's WAY later in this story, and I still have a shit ton to write about before we get there. Maybe to satisfy my urge to write a scene of a man fighting a dragon, I might just write another short chapter about it lmao. After the dragon chapters I gotta write, or I might just upload it randomly in between them, not 100% sure yet.
I got an idea already for the dragon chapter, just expanding a character , then I'll follow it up with more dragon chapters. Essentially progressing the plot for Pink/Isaac in the story, still tweaking the details of it.
Thanks for sticking with me in this stupid fic, I'll never stop thanking those who read it.
Thank you for reading, whether you like my story or dislike it, thank you for spending your time checking it out. I always aim to improve, to make sure your read is enjoyable as possible with every chapter I write.
Have a good one.
