I do not own the Boy/Girl Battle Series.
Beth is in 10th grade and Josh is in 11th grade. You do the math.
At 4 am, both Beth and Eddie were up and about. While Eddie was running on the treadmill they had in their basement, Beth was upstairs making breakfast for her sisters. Beth had gotten extremely better at both cooking and baking, watching videos and looking up recipes online, and the Malloys regularly had cookies in their cookie jar, ready for Peter to eat.
Soon, around 4:30, Eddie was done running and eating the eggs Beth had made. At 5, after Eddie had taken a shower, their father walked downstairs, ready to head off to the college where he and Mr. Benson co-coached the football players.
After he left, the girls felt their phones buzz.

Eddie looked at Beth confused.
"Don't forget why people called me the Matchmaker back in Ohio." Beth said. Eddie rolled her eyes.
"That's was because everyone told you who their .. crush was." Eddie slowed, realization registering onto her face.
Beth started nodding, a wide grin on her face.
"Did both of them..?" Eddie asked in shock. Beth nodded again.
"Don't tell Caroline I told you." Beth said, pressing a finger to her lips. Meanwhile, the group chat was still buzzing.
(Josh) : Beth ik that too. Wally's not that good at keeping secrets

Eddie let out a loud laugh. Beth looked at her, smirking and she stopped.
"Don't you dare, Bethany Sue." Eddie warned. Beth just shrugged.
(Eddie): how? elaborate
(Tony) : Bill's going to act like he's flirting with Caro to see how Walls acts
At this point, both Eddie and Beth were grinning from ear to ear.
(Steve): We're just trying to get him to confess, we don't even know if Caro likes him back.
Beth grinned. She bent over and started typing.
(Beth) : What if she did? How would that play out in this plan?
(Peter): how can u say she dosnt? it kinda ovbious
(Doug): yea!
(Beth) : A little birdie (Caroline herself) told me through the grapevine
Around this time, Caroline was walking downstairs.
"What's so funny?" Caroline said, heading to the kitchen to grab a bowl of cereal. Her sisters smiles dropped immediately and they turned off their phones.
"Nothing!" said Beth.
"Yep!" Eddie agreed.
"Okayy." Caroline said. "Beth can you do my hair?" Beth nodded.
"What do you want?"
So that's how Beth, 30 minutes before school started, did Caroline's hair into her two buns with the rest of her hair down.
As soon as she was done, the girls left their house and were met with the Bensons.
"Where are the Hatfords?" Beth asked to no one in particular.
"They ditched us, that's what. Went up and left." Tony said.
"They only waved at us. Josh especially didn't want to stick around for some reason." Danny said. Beth felt her heart sink.
"Oh.." she said, deflated. The rest of the walk was in silence, until Caroline looked around.
"You're missing a brother." She said. Everyone else started to laugh. (Its Bill)
30 minutes earlier...
Josh scurried out of the house, itching to get to school. Away from the Malloys. He'd even asked his brothers to not wait, even if it was just the Bensons. Josh didn't feel like he could see Beth just yet.
Soon they arrived at the school, and Josh still felt uneasy to see the Malloys, especially Beth, since she knew his almost well kept secret. Heck, he even jumped and practically ran the other direction when he saw her with Eddie.
"Hey!" Eddie said, dragging Beth along with her. "We missed you guys this morning!" Beth nodded somewhat solemnly. She was looking at the ground, not making eye contact.
"Yeah, Josh wanted to get here early." Jake enunciated. He grinned at Eddie, who grinned back.
"Ok then." Eddie nudged Beth, who nodded. Josh noticed she still wouldn't look at him. Eddie caught him staring. When Beth left to go to her class, Eddie glared at him.
"Beth's especially glum because Danny told us someone wasn't too keen on waiting for us." She grumbled.
"I needed to think and plan. I wasn't trying to hurt her." Josh explained.
"Good, you remember what I told you in 6th." Eddie said.
Josh sighed and left to go to his class.
Later, at lunch, Beth caught a sight of Josh's sketchbook. However, she quickly realized that it wasn't his sketchbook at all, but his math homework. He had drawn all up in the margins, depicting numbers fighting the equals sign.
On it, Beth noticed, was the answer to one problem that Jake and Eddie wouldn't stop arguing about. Beth looked at Eddie's paper, then Jake's. She noticed that Eddie's paper was the odd one out, and took a closer look.
"See, Beth's going to be the tiebreaker." Eddie declared, confidant that her sister will take her side.
"Eddie, (x2)2 doesn't equal that." Beth said, referring to the mess on Eddie's math homework. Eddie flushed and Jake laughed.
Jake smiled smugly. "Told you." Eddie sneered at him.
"Yeah that and-" Bill said to Danny.
"What are you guys talking about?" Wally asked.
"Nothing." Bill and Danny said. Everyone but Caroline and Wally looked at each other. Caroline shrugged and headed off to the garbage to throw out her lunch. The others quickly followed suit.
At the trash can, Caroline sighed and turned to her sisters.
"What is going on with you two?" She demanded. Both Eddie and Beth shrugged and giggled. They walked back, without giving Caroline an answer.
"Who?" The three girls hear Wally ask when they sat down.
"I can't say!" Bill said. He gestured to Wally with his hand, making a face. Caroline giggled. Wally scowled. Beth looked at Eddie with a smirk. Wally scowled even more. He found a random crumb and threw it at Beth.
"Ok grumpy!" Beth said with a smile. She just came up with the nickname on the spot. She looked out of the corner of her eye to see Josh smirking at his younger brother. He turned to look at her and she averted her eyes.
"Oh c'mon Wally, you ruined our sunshine's mood!" Eddie exclaimed. Caroline flushed, and it made the plan even more fun.
"Eddie!" Caroline hissed. Unbeknownst to Caroline, Wally's face softened at her. Unluckily for Wally, everyone else but Caroline noticed this. Everyone started to snicker, and Beth looked at Josh again. He was completely staring at her and it made the butterflies in her stomach rise, up and up, all the way to her face. She blushed and looked at the table.
Finally the bell rang and the 12 kids headed off to their next class.
As Beth left the lunch room, Wally followed her until they were far enough away from everyone else. He pulled her over to the side.
"How does everyone know?" Wally asked.
"What?" said a surprised Beth.
"Tell me." Wally said sternly.
"Dude, don't be paranoid." Beth said dismissively.
"That's my entire personality." Wally pointed out.
Beth laughed. "So, don't worry, you worry wart."
Wally looked at Beth's demeanor for any hint that she was lying. She was smiling and holding back her laughter.
"Why're you laughing so much?" Wally asked.
"That's my personality." Beth declared, walking away, hoping she didn't reveal anything.
The weekend...
Beth woke up early again on Saturday, and started to get dressed into warm clothes, knowing full well that she'll get cold today. Today was the day,l that the Hatfords and Bensons would meet the girls' best friends, the Lasheès. She remembered the last time she saw them, about 4 years ago. The girls had just moved back to Ohio and Beth remembered the chaos she encountered back home. She shuddered and hoped that seeing Cam again would be more happy.
As she and Eddie waited for Caroline, Beth decided to text the group chat without Wally and Caroline.
(Beth) : Hey guys! Who's excited for the movie tonight?
She waited for maybe about 5 minutes until she got a response.
(Josh) : I am, can't wait! ;)
Beth blushed profusely and she smiled. She could allow herself this crush, couldn't she? Eddie noticed her sister's mannerisms and smiled at her.
Finally Caroline came out of her room.
"Oh c'mon guys!" Caroline whined. "Can't you at least try to look good tonight!" Beth looked down at her hoodie and sweatpants. At least her sweatpants were cute and her hoodie wasn't too big on her.
"No." Eddie said, putting her hair up into a high pony. "We're meeting up with friends and the guys. What's the point of dressing up?"
"Don't feel like it. Besides we're also going to be going to Grandma's after. It's going to be cold." Beth reasoned.
Eddie looked over and saw what her youngest sister was wearing. "Go put on a sweater. You're not leaving like that."
"No." Caroline puffed out her cheeks and folded her arms. Beth smirked, knowing that she wasn't leaving at all if Caroline didn't comply.
"Now." Eddie warned. Beth got ready to help.
"I said no!" Beth knew that that was the last straw for Eddie.
"Beth hold her down." Eddie grabbed Caroline and dragged her back to her room. Beth quickly grabbed her younger sister as Eddie looked through Caroline's closet, found a sweater and threw it at her sister.
"Meanie." Caroline muttered. Eddie walked over and shut the door.
"Now." She said.
Caroline grumbled. "Fine." After Caroline was done changing, the Malloys piled into their car and headed off for the movies.
