I got dressed and got ready, then went downstairs for breakfast. I had put on a short dress that showed off my curves, and I left my hair down, falling over my shoulders. Klaus looked at me up and down, stopping at my neckline. I must admit, I blushed a little.
"Why are you dressed up so nicely? Are you planning on going out? If so, don't count on me letting you dress like that. But since you get along so well with Elijah, why don't you go see him?"
"First of all, you don't get to approve my outfit or not—I dress how I want. And secondly, why bring up Elijah?" I looked at him mockingly and asked, "Are you jealous?!"
He exclaimed, "Me, jealous? I don't think we're talking about the same person. Anyway, that's not the point. I had something to ask you: are you still with Stefan?"
It was the question I regretted most out of all, why hadn't he thought of this before we acted? I was done for. I knew if I told Klaus the truth, he'd likely use it against me, but I needed to tell Stefan myself, so I decided to ask directly if I could use his phone.
"Can I use your phone for a quick call?"
"But you haven't answered my question, love. I'll lend you my phone once you answer. Wait… don't tell me you want to call Stefan to tell him what happened?"
"Klaus, please don't make this harder. I'm going to call Stefan and apologize. He won't want me after this, so it'll be settled. But please let me do this phone call"
"All right, I'll give you my phone, but I'm staying with you to make sure you actually call Stefan and aren't trying to run off."
I jumped for joy, thinking he'd really say no. "Thank you, thank you!"
"I know you're going to call your boyfriend, and it's not the best time to say this, but just so you know I don't regret what we did at all. And yes, I might be a little jealous of Elijah."
I jumped up from my chair, saying, "I knew it! You are jealous!" As for the first part of his sentence, I acted as if it didn't affected me because deep down, I had liked it—a lot, honestly—and I would love to do it again, but it wouldn't be fair to Stefan. So, I kept quiet.
"Relax, I'm not in love," he added. Then he looked at me, grabbed my hand, and pulled me close to his chest, saying, "Don't think I didn't notice you didn't respond to what I just said."
I felt his breath, and he was looking at my lips, I stared at his, but I couldn't move. I loved his body close to mine, and I knew it was wrong, but I couldn't help but touch his toned chest!
"Ahem, I don't mean to interrupt, I just want to grab a coffee." Elijah appeared at the kitchen door, giving us a hard look. We quickly separated and acted like nothing had happened. Elijah said nothing, took his coffee, and left in silence. To break the long silence, I said,
"Well, what if I made that call?"
"Yes, excellent idea, love, take a seat." He handed me his phone, and I dialed Stefan's number.
The phone rang—it was the most nerve-wracking moment of my life. I looked at Klaus, who was watching me with a playful look. Finally, I heard a voice: Stefan's voice.
"Yes, Klaus, what do you want? I don't have time for this."
"No, it's me, Elena…"
"ELENA! Are you okay? Are they treating you well? Are you eating enough? How do you feel? Please tell me he hasn't laid a hand on you!"
"Don't worry, I'm fine, I'm fed, and they're taking good care of me. But I have something important to tell you."
"I'm so relieved! I miss you so much. I can't wait to hold you and kiss you! But you're scaring me with that tone, tell me what's going on."
"Stefan, you know I love you, and I would never want to hurt you, and I'm sorry, it just… happened, I didn't think, I promise!"
"Elena, you're really scaring me. What did you do?!"
"I… I slept with Klaus. But I'm so sorry, you don't know how sorry I am… Stefan? Stefan? Please, say something!"
But he had hung up—it was too late. I burst into tears, dropped the phone, and collapsed into the chair. "No, no, no, he can't just hang up! I said I was sorry, I love him! He can't do this!"
Klaus wrapped me in his arms, but I fought him off and ran to my room, crying.
