The monks were completely clueless about his plans. Chase knew that Fung and Dojo were keeping the information about Jack's potential elemental power tightly secret, which would make the eventuality all the more delicious. It did pose a problem though. There was very little information about the Dragon of Metal and how the element presented itself. Even the few scrolls he'd managed to steal and copy were sparse or were written in the most roundabout manner.
Chase threw down one rather frustrating scroll. He needed to figure out how to trigger the powers while Jack was busy with the programming of the location device. The younger man was already further along than expected, even with the various distractions that had popped up.
Though it pained him to admit it, he would have to turn to Shen Gong Wu to find the answers he sought. Chase turned to the corner of his library, making eye contact with the raven perched on the shelf.
"Fetch the Eagle Scope. Have it ready in the throne room for my return." With that, he teleported away.
The temple grounds were in the throes of mild chaos. It seemed Le Mime had decided to take a stab at the monks with Katnappé. Chase stuck to the shadows, maneuvering around the familiar grounds while the youth fought their silly battle. He flicked the chimes in the Wu vault, wondering when the temple would ever decide to change the tune.
An explosion outside covered up the sound of scraping stones, causing Chase to roll his eyes lightly as he descended into its depths. He walked past the containers until he arrived at the Fountain of Hui. He gently pressed it in, the stone drawer popping out to reveal the Wu. A sound caught the immortal's ear…to the left? Chase looked further down, frowning deeply as he tucked the Wu into his armor. He'd expected to see one of Katnappé's little mutated furballs, but instead was a completely black-plated JackBot.
"What the…?" His brows furrowed, watching as the bot was putting various Wu back into their dedicated drawers while withdrawing others. Even more baffling, it only took two. Another explosion from outside and the robot slashed at the air and opened a portal similar to the ones created by the Golden Tiger Claws.
Chase watched as the JackBot disappeared. If he had needed any more solid proof that Jack Spicer had a supernatural proclivity for mechanics and was to become the Dragon of Metal…that would have been it. He'd need to look into why Jack seemed to be secretly trading out Wu later. First, he needed to focus on his own mission. With the Fountain of Hui in his possession, Chase teleported back to his mountain keep with the monks being none the wiser.
It had been quite some time since he'd used these two Wu, not since that incident with the Hoduku Mouse. He took the Fountain of Hui from his sash as he walked to the inner sanctum of his palace. One of his warriors, a sleek tiger, sat waiting with the Eagle Scope. Chase gave the large beast a rough scratch behind the ears as he took the Wu from her, earning a low rumble of gratitude. Setting the Wu together, he called out the names. Chase looked through the Eagle Scope, the random streams of information thinning out.
The element of metal was associated with the 7th and 8th heavenly steams, the color white, and the planet Venus. While elements like fire and earth were fueled by passion or stability, metal was driven by ambition and progress. Ambition.
"Hmm. I believe I may need to learn more about Spicer and what he's planning."
Jack stretched, looking over the program he'd been focusing on. With this new batch of Wu, he'd have a pretty diverse arsenal at his fingertips. Between this and Chase's Dragon of Metal locator, he'd been able to make a full swing back into being a full-time inventor now that he wasn't constantly with Jun Jie. He hadn't realized how much he'd missed this.
"It's not like I stopped," Jack muttered to himself, glancing at the phone that sat to the right of his keyboard. He hadn't stopped working while he'd been dating, but he'd definitely slowed down. The months spend with Jun Jie had been spent traveling, doing interviews, dates, almost like being a rock star. And if Jack was honest, it had been absolutely exhausting.
Traveling around the world with Jun Jie on his arm had been nothing like when he'd been in the Xiaolin-Heylin conflict full time. It consisted of far more social interaction, smiling, and acting so nice and polite. All to maintain this philanthropic savant image he'd built. Being holed up in his lab felt like such a nice vacation. He could focus on his secret projects without the world's gaze!
"What's this?" Well, almost. Jack jumped and managed to catch himself before falling out of his chair. Chase's visits were more frequent lately, but it didn't make the sudden appearances any less startling.
"Fu-oof," Jack blew out the swear, not wanting to piss off the immortal warlord. After all, he'd been building up a good rapport with the man and didn't want to lose that. "Chase…hi."
"What is this?" Chase simply repeated, waiting for the redhead to regain his composure. His golden eyes were studying the screen with an arched brow.
"Oh, just a personal project."
"A personal project. One to do with stealing Shen Gong Wu?" There was a beat before Jack looked up to see Chase's calculating gaze on him. Shit, he had a hard time lying under that look.
"Uh, what?" He tried anyway, already starting to fidget.
"I needed to borrow something from the monks to further my study of the Dragon of Metal. Now imagine my surprise when I saw one of your bots in the Wu Vault, now only exchanging different Shen Gong Wu, but able to use the abilities of one without it." Chase grabbed the back of Jack's chair, spinning him so they were facing one another.
"You…you saw…" The albino shrank back in his chair instinctually as the warlord leaned closer. He was internally cursing out his body as he felt his heartbeat quicken and his cheeks flush slightly. Chase was trying to intimidate information out of him, right? So why didn't he look angry?
Chase knew it was only a matter of time before Jack cracked. He leaned in, able to smell the pheromones coming off the younger man and see the mixture of muted desire and confused fear. "What are you doing with the Shen Gong Wu, Jack?"
That was the straw that broke the camel's back. "I'm reproducing them."
"…what?"
Jack slumped a little, looking back at the computer. "I…here, it'll be easier if I show you."
