Someone needs to stop me from writing when I am supposed to be on a break, I just am bored so end up writing. Anyway this idea is from my friend milbroom or wanted to see Amelia's reaction to Constance almost drowing on the boat. Might be a little over the top but considering she didn't leave Constance's side when she was in bed, I can imagine her going into full panic mode.
So Glad You Are Safe
As the Dragon Hoard left, happy with his treasure, Mildred suddenly remembered they had another problem she had forgotten about in all the commotion.
"Miss Cackle" Mildred shouted as she ran towards her headmistress "It's Miss Hardbroom" Mildred shouted, as Maud ran to her side to help her explain.
"The boat...drifted away" Maud said not wanting Drusilla in trouble when she had ended up helping them save their teacher and Mildred and Tabby "She was on board, she hit her head and knocked herself out, Tabby was on there too, they almost drowned" Maud stated.
"WHAT!?" Amelia shouted running towards the deck without another word.
"She's alright, Drusilla is with her" Mildred responded as the whole group followed the woman over to the shore, all trying their best not to slip on the sand. They all somehow needed the reassurance that she was still alive.
Amelia rushed towards the boat as fast as she could. Upon seeing her, Drusilla stepped out of the boat to allow her room to enter, and explain her teacher's condition.
"She's starting to stir Miss" Drusilla said, seeing Amelia's face etched with pure panic and hoping it would bring her some comfort.
Amelia ignored her completely and climbed onto the boat, bending down to attend to her deputy.
"Constance? Constance dear?" she said shaking her slightly. Constance stayed as motionless as ever.
When she didn't respond, as she was only semi conscious, Amelia's attempts to wake her became more frantic.
"Connie? Con, wake up please" the headmistress said shaking her deputy as she cried gently.
"Miss...I don't think that's going to help" Mildred replied looking at the others and seeing their headmistress's over the top reaction was also worrying them. None of them had ever seen their headmistress, who was normally so calm, display such emotions before.
"I am not losing you, not like this, wake up!" Amelia shouted shaking her deputy more and only becoming more upset when she didn't instantly wake up.
"Why don't we all go back to the house for a bit?" Algernon monitored to the kids, not seeing how them seeing their headmistress work herself up into a state was going to help any of them, and if he was been honest, with how eccentric she was being, she was scaring him. The kids slowly turned away to follow the wizard back to the house, all of them turning back at least once.
Constance half-opened her eyes, hearing before seeing Amelia sobbing next to her. Her friend was so busy focusing on her grief she hadn't even noticed she was now awake.
"Amelia?" Constance choked out weakly.
Amelia heard her voice, saw she was awake then pulled her into a soul crushing hug, sobbing harder, which woke Constance up completely and scared her half to death at the sudden physical contact.
"I'm sorry...I am just so relieved…" Amelia sobbed feeling her deputy jump in shock as she suddenly grabbed her.
"Mila...what happened?" Constance said using the rare nickname she would never use in front of anyone else.
"You fell and knocked yourself out sweetheart, the boat drifted away with you on board, you almost got lost downstream!" Amelia replied, realising she couldn't even say the word drown to associate with what had happened.
"How did I get back?" Constance asked, focusing on that one point as she couldn't remember anything.
"Mildred Hubble" Amelia said. Constance sighed in frustration her most irriating student had been the one to save her life, as that meant she would have to be soft and thank her, then moved to sit up, as she did so, her head felt heavy as it throbbed with pain.
"Take it easy sweetheart, you might have concussion" Amelia said, pushing her back down and wiping at her eyes as she finally stopped sobbing.
"Oh Connie, I don't know what I would have done if you.." Amelia said tearing up again.
"But I didn't...I am alright, even if my head feels like I drank two litres of Davina's special wine" Constance responded. Amelia laughed in response, knowing that stuff was enough to knock you out after a few sips.
Amelia stopped laughing and realised how serious the situation was and how bad it could have been before taking her friend's hand and speaking again.
"I should have said it more, I love you Constance, you are the daughter I never had, I kept thinking how you could have died without knowing that" Amelia told her, stroking a gentle hand over her cheek. As Constance was not one to express such emotions, it was not something Amelia said out loud very often.
"I know, and you are the closest thing I have ever had to a mother, I love you too Amelia" Constance replied, her tone a little weak from just waking up, but not breaking at all, having never been more sure of anything in her life.
For the third time that afternoon, Amelia became teary again, only this time, they were happy tears.
