Chapter 7 Finding Pinocchio

"Who's there?!" Geppetto asked as he woke up and stood up in bed after hearing a loud crashing noise.

Jiminy hid behind a bunch of books on a bookshelf while Marietta decided to hide with Pinocchio right under the table, who was very confused as to what was going on.

"What's going on?" Pinocchio asked Marietta, who was still next to him under the table.

"Signore Geppetto woke up," she answered, making Pinocchio even more confused.

"Who's that?" he asked as Marietta smiled.

"Your father."

"My what?" Pinocchio asked as Marietta wanted to burst out laughing.

"We'll talk more about it later, now keep quiet," Marietta told the puppet boy, who was still very confused as to who Geppetto was.

"I asked who's there?!" Geppetto asked whoever made the crashing noise as he sat up in bed.

"It's me!" Pinocchio shouted from underneath the table.

"Oh, it's me," Geppetto said as he tried lying back in bed, but woke up after realizing that voice sounded a bit off.

"Huh?! Marietta, was that you?!" Geppetto asked Marietta, who he didn't notice was out of bed and under the table with Pinocchio.

"No, it's…" Pinocchio tried to say, before Marietta covered his mouth to leave Geppetto in confusion and fear.

"Huh?!" he asked as he jumped out of his bed, leaving Figaro the cat confused and annoyed as to what his master was doing.

"Shh Figaro, there's someone in here and I believe they've got Marietta as hostage!" Geppetto whispered as the cat jumped in fear.

Geppetto then lit a match to light his candle and got out a gun from behind his pillow, leaving Marietta terrified as to what her "father" was trying to do.

Figaro just hid behind Geppetto's pillow in fear, but then decided to follow him after being a little scared of being alone. Geppetto tip towed very quietly while looking around for any intruders with the help of a candle in his hand.

Figaro was right behind Geppetto and due to the old man being very frightened, he believed Figaro was being a little nosey.

"Shh, careful now Figaro, he might be out at any time!" Geppetto whispered to the cat as the two continued to walk forward.

The two then finally made it to the table Marietta and Pinocchio were under and didn't notice them along with his cat Figaro.

Pinocchio just lied there in confusion while Marietta wanted to burst out laughing and snickered to Pinocchio while putting her finger over her mouth, indicating he needed to be quiet.

As Geppetto and Figaro looked around for any intruders, Pinocchio ignored Mariett's warnings and touched Figaro by the tail! "Here I am!"

Figaro jumped up in fear, causing Geppetto to shoot his gun, almost hitting Jiminy in the process and causing all his clocks to go off!

Marietta then burst out laughing as she saw her "father" make a fool of himself, and while he didn't notice Pinocchio, he did notice Marietta lying on the floor laughing.

"Marietta?" Geppetto asked as Marietta kept quiet.

"Oh, hello, papa," she said as she stood back up.

"What are you doing up so late? You're supposed to be in bed, young lady!" Geppetto said as he walked over to the girl.

"Sorry, papa, but I had to wake up after Pinocchio fell down,'' Marietta said as Geppetto noticed his wooden boy lying on the floor, completely unaware of his new abilities.

"Oh, Pinocchio," Geppetto said as he picked up the wooden boy off the ground. "How did you get down here?"

He put him back on the table.

"I fell down," Pinocchio said as Geppetto tried to adjust him, but then realized he was alive!

"Oh, you did…Oh! You're talking!" Geppetto said as Pinocchio nodded his head.

"Uh-huh, and I can move too!" Pinocchio said as he moved around his hands, making Geppetto not only confused but unbelievable.

"No, no, no, no!" Geppetto cried with disbelief.

"Yes, papa, it's true. Pinocchio was brought to life, just what you wished for!" Marietta tried to tell him, but Geppetto wouldn't listen and believed all of this was fake.

"Oh, no, no, no! You can't be! I must be dreaming in my sleep!" Geppetto cried as he ran away from Pinocchio and Marietta.

"But, papa, it's real, just come and look for yourself!" Marietta insisted.

"Oh wake me up! Wake me up!" Geppetto cried as he grabbed a jar of water and poured it on top of his head, not only getting himself wet but Figaro as well, who was right underneath him when he was poured with water.

"See, papa?" Marietta asked with a smirk as Geppetto walked back over to her and Pinocchio as Figaro tried to dry himself off.

"Okay, now we'll see who's dreaming!" Geppetto said as he pointed to Pinocchio and his niece.

"But papa, believe me, he's alive!" Marietta tried to tell him, but Geppetto still wouldn't listen.

"Now go on! Say something," Geppetto told Pinocchio, who just smiled and covered his mouth to prevent bursting out in laughter.

"Gee, you're funny, do it again!" Pinocchio said, making Geppetto realize Pinocchio really was alive!

"So you do talk!" Geppetto gasped as Pinocchio nodded his head.

"See, we tried to tell you, papa," Marietta said as she crossed her arms.

"Yeah and the Blue Fairy came."

"The Blue Fairy?" Geppetto asked in shock.

"Yes, papa. She gave Pinocchio life and she wants me to act as an older sister to him in order to fulfill my wish," Marietta told him, making Geppetto shocked.

"Your wish?" he asked as Marietta nodded her head.

"Si, papa, and the Blue Fairy also gave me a riddle to solve in order to find my father!"

"Carlo? He's alive?!" Geppetto asked in shock.

"Yes, but it's up to me to find him. But first, I'll have to help Pinocchio first," Marietta said, making Geppetto relieved that his brother would be okay.

"Well, that's wonderful, Marietta! I'm happy to hear my brother will be okay after all!"

"Yeah and I've got a conscience," Pinocchio told his father.

"A conscience?" Geppetto asked as Jiminy smiled and pointed to himself, indicating that he was selected to be the wooden boy's conscience.

"And someday, I'm gonna be a real boy!"

"And I'll be a singer!" Marietta chimed in.

Geppetto couldn't believe that Pinocchio was alive and talking, but also couldn't believe that he would someday be a real boy and realize his wish had come true!

"A real boy? It's my wish, it's come true!" Geppetto cried as he jumped in excitement and picked up Pinocchio.

Marietta kind of felt ignored by Geppetto and wanted more attention from him, but couldn't speak up due to being shy.

"Hey, papa..." Marietta tried to say, but Geppetto was too busy with Pinocchio and just ignored her as he leaned Pinocchio next to Figaro on the floor.

"Look, Figaro, he can talk!" Geppetto exclaimed as the cat looked up at him. "Now, Pinocchio, say hello to Figaro."

"Hello to Figaro," Pinocchio said as he tried petting Figaro, who was a bit weary of Pinocchio at first, but then smiled as Pinocchio started to pet him.

Cleo then started to jump out of her fishbowl and signaled attention as Geppetto noticed her.

"Oh, Cleo, I almost forgot!" Geppetto exclaimed as pulled Pinocchio away from Figaro and quit petting him, making the cat upset.

"Hey, papa," Marietta tried to get her father's attention, but he just walked right past her along with Pinocchio, and held him over Cleo's fishbowl, where she kept jumping out of.

"Look, it's Pinocchio!" Geppetto told the fish as Marietta walked over to the upset Figaro.

"Oh, Figaro, it'll be okay, we're all just a little excited tonight," Marietta said as she looked over to what Geppetto was doing with his new little wooden boy.

"She's my little water baby, isn't she cute?" Geppetto asked Pinocchio as he held him above the bowl.

"Yeah cute," he said as Cleo very excitedly jumped out of her bowl to give Pinocchio a kiss on the lips. Figaro was also on the other end of Cleo's fishbowl and she gave him a kiss on the cheek, much to his disgust.

"Now, this calls for a celebration!" Geppetto cheerfully laughed as he took Pinocchio away from the fishbowl and turned on a couple of music boxes.

"You start one Pinocchio!" Geppetto encouraged as Pinocchio turned on a music box with a couple of seals playing instruments.

"You start one too, Marietta!" Geppetto told the girl as she pressed the button of one of the music boxes that had a saint blowing into a trumpet on it.

She then joined Geppetto and Pinocchio dancing, and the three danced together while Geppetto held Pinocchio by the hands to help him dance.

As the three danced together in happiness, Jiminy saw a music box that had a man and woman dancing on it and he wanted to join in on the party as well.

"Oooh, a party!" Jiminy said as looked at the music box. "Mind if I cut in?"

He tapped on the male figure of the box and grabbed the female figure as if he was dancing with a real woman. "How about sitting this one out the next one, babe?" Jiminy asked the female figure as the two spun around together.

But as the two were spinning around, the two figures conjoined and Jiminy caught between them!

"Hey!" he cried. "Whoa! Let me out! Let me out!"

The figures soon came apart and set Jiminy free.

In the meantime, Geppetto was playing an accordion while Pinocchio danced with Figaro, and Marietta danced by herself while also pretending to be a dancing gypsy.

"Come, Cleo! Join the party!" Geppetto said as he twirled his finger around in Cleo's fish bowl and caused her to do a dance and smile.

However, while Geppetto was too distracted, Pinocchio was looking around the shop and saw a burning candle sitting on the table!

"Oooh, nice!" Pinocchio exclaimed as he got on the table to get a better look.

While Geppetto was picking out some of the toys, Marietta continued to dance until she saw Pinocchio trying to play with the fire!

"Oh, no! Pinocchio!" she cried as she ran over to try and stop him.

"Pinocchio, don't touch that!" She tried to warn him, but Pinocchio wasn't paying much attention and instead just put two of his fingers in the flame.

"Oh, hello, Marietta," Pinocchio said as he noticed the girl. "Look what I found."

"Yes, I see that, but that's fire! You shouldn't be playing with that!" she warned him.

"And why not? I like fire, it's so pretty," Pinocchio said as he put his fingers around it again, but Marietta pulled them away this time.

"Because fire can hurt you!" she told him as he raised an eyebrow.

He then put his fingers in the flames again and found the existence of burning fire amazing.

"It doesn't seem to hurt me." Pinocchio said as Marietta did a facepalm.

Meanwhile, Geppetto was carrying a bunch of toys while Pinocchio was playing with the fire from the candle.

"Look, pretty!" he cried out as he held up a finger, which had a flame on it!

"Oh help!" Geppetto cried as he threw down all his toys.

"I tried telling him, papa," Marietta tried to say as Geppetto ran over and grabbed Pinocchio to try and blow the flames out, but it was no use.

"Oh, help me! Where's the bucket?!" Geppetto cried out as he ran around in fear and accidentally stepped on Figaro's tail.

"Here it is! Here's some water, here's some…" Jiminy tried to say as he ran out carrying a bunch of water from inside his hat, but tripped over a pencil and let all the water out!

Marietta tried looking around for anywhere to light Pinocchio's flames out and when she saw Cleo's fishbowl, she knew that could be a way to do it.

"Papa, try the fishbowl! Try the fishbowl!" Marietta suggested as Geppetto ran over to Cleo's fish bowl and put Pinocchio's finger in there, causing the water to turn black.

"That was a close one!" Geppetto exclaimed as he rubbed Pinocchio's finger.

"Yeah, maybe we should go to bed, it's getting late anyway," Marietta suggested as Geppetto looked at the time.

"Good idea, Marietta. Come, Pinocchio, we shall go to bed." Geppetto said as he carried Pinocchio over to his bed.

Meanwhile, Cleo was still coughing out all the smoke that was left in her water and Marietta turned around to see the little fish struggling.

"Sorry about that, Cleo." Marietta apologized as Cleo gave her a glare while coughing out the smoke.

After the evening filled night, everyone in Geppetto's workshop was about ready to go back to bed. Jiminy Cricket had now gotten into a matchbox and would use it as a bed as he removed his hat, shoes, and jacket.

"Little man, you've had a busy night" Jiminy said to himself as he got into his match box and tucked himself in as if he was using a real bed.

Pinocchio on the other hand was sleeping with Geppetto, as he now was wearing a matching nightgown and hat, along with Figaro who was sleeping on the other end of the bed, and Marietta slept in her own bed.

"Now, close your eyes and go to sleep," Geppetto told his wooden boy as he began to close his eyes.

"Why?" Pinocchio asked as Geppetto opened them back up.

"Well, everybody has to go to sleep," Geppetto answered. "Marietta goes to sleep and Figaro goes to sleep and Cleo..."

As Geppetto was explaining to Pinocchio, Marietta crossed her arms and frowned at Pinocchio.

"Go to sleep, little cousin or brother," she corrected with confusion.

"And besides, tomorrow, you and Marietta have to go to school," Geppetto said as Marietta looked at her "father" in shock.

"Huh?!" she asked as Geppetto turned to face her.

"Yes, Marietta. You and Pinocchio will be going back to school tomorrow."

"The next day?!" Marietta asked as Geppetto became slightly concerned himself.

"Well uh, yes, I guess, now that doesn't sound too right," Geppetto said, wondering if it were the right thing to send Pinocchio to school the next day.

"Papa, could you maybe send Pinocchio to school another day? He was just born yesterday after all and I want him to learn just a little bit more about life than he does at school," Marietta asked as Geppetto looked at his wooden boy and smiled.

"Well, okay. We'll send you to school another day, Pinocchio, but you're still gonna have to go to bed."

"Aw, come on, father!" Pinocchio complained as Marietta smiled and turned back around to go to bed.

"Come on, Pinocchio, just close your eyes and go to sleep." Geppetto said as he began to fall asleep while Pinocchio yawned.

"Oh, okay." Pinocchio said as he closed his eyes and began to fall asleep as well.

The whole workshop had become siglent, and the next day would be all about Marietta helping her new little brother, Pinocchio, learn a little more about life before sending him to off school.
