Episode 2: The Shining Beacon
As soon as one lands, the boy with blond hair emerges and goes over to the nearest trash can, hunching over it as he loses his lunch.
"Are you okay, buddy?" I asked the boy.
"No..." The boy said.
"You'll be fine..." I said as I patted his back.
Me, Sera, Emily, my parents, Ruby and Yang, alongside several other students, walk out of the ship and head down the paved path to the front of the school.
Ruby and Yang take in the entirety of Beacon "Wow..." We all said.
"The view from Vale's got nothing on this!" Yang said.
"Uh, Ruby, you okay?" I asked.
Ruby gets so excited she becomes starry-eyed. "Ohmygosh, sis! Lana! That kid's got a collapsible staff! And she's got a fire sword!" She tries getting closer, but Yang pulls her sister by the hood. "Ow! Ooww!" Ruby whines
"Easy there, little sister. They're just weapons!" Yang said.
"'Just weapons'? They're an extension of ourselves! They're a part of us! Oh, they're so cool!" Ruby said.
"Yeah, but not as cool as some old kind of weapons," Vaggie said.
"Well, why can't you swoon over your own weapon? Aren't you happy with it?" Yang said.
Ruby transforms her weapon into its scythe form. "Of course, I'm happy with Crescent Rose! I just really like seeing new ones. It's like meeting new people, but better..." Ruby said.
"True," I said.
Yang playfully pushed her sister's hood down over her face. "Ruby, come on, why don't you go try and make some friends of your own?" Yang said.
"On second thought, you should go make more friends too, Lana," Charlie said.
Ruby takes off her hood. "But... why would I need friends if I have you?" Ruby said.
"Yeah, I already have Ruby and Yang. And Sera!" I said.
"Well..." Yang said. In a flash, a group of other students surround Yang and they all dash down the road. "Actually, my friends are here. Gotta go catch up. 'Kay, see ya, bye!"
"Yang!" I shouted, reaching my arm out to her.
"And I just remembered I have something to take care of quick!" Charlie said.
"Mom, seriously?" I said.
"We'll be right back, sweetie!" Vaggie assured me as she and Charlie left in a flash.
"I-I have to do something too," Sera said.
"Sera? You too?" I cried. Sera gave me a kiss before taking off. Did my whole family just abandon me? Well, at least Emily was still here. Unfortunately, Adam and Lute too.
Ruby is spinning and dizzy-eyed from Yang's sudden leaving. "Wait, where are you going?! Are we supposed to go to our dorms? Where are our dorms? Do we have dorms?" She stopped for a moment, still reeling. "I don't know what I'm doing..."
I noticed Ruby about to back into the luggage. "Ruby, look out!" I cried.
"Huh?" Ruby said. Ruby falls backward into a luggage cart, sending cases flying. Someone is standing over her.
"What are you two doing?!" A white-haired girl yelled.
"Uh oh," Emily said.
Ruby gets up on her hands. "Uh, sorry!" Ruby said
"Sorry?! Do you have any idea of the damage you could have caused?" The white-haired girl said.
"Hey, she said she was sorry! We'll help you out with the cases." I said. I picked up one of the cases.
"Yeah, me too," Emily said.
Ruby is holding a case. "Uuhhh..."
"Give me that!" The white-haired girl shouted. She snatches the luggage from me and Ruby and opens it to reveal its twinkling-sounding contents. "This is Dust - mined and purified from the Schnee quarry!"
"Uuuhhhh..." Ruby said.
"What are you two, brain-dead?" She is holding out a vial of red Dust and shutting the case. "Dust! Fire, water, lightning, energy!"
"I... I know..." Ruby starts coughing from the Dust pouring into her face. Since I was near Ruby, the Dust was being poured into my face too.
"Are you even listening to me? Is any of this sinking in? What do you have to say for yourself?!" The white-haired girl shouted.
"I think I feel a sneeze coming on," I said.
"Uhhhaaaahhh-Chooooo!" Ruby sneezed.
"Aaaaaaahhhhhhh!" I screamed.
The sneeze explosion totally blew me away. I accidentally bumped into Adam, as well as someone else. Adam glared at me.
"Watch it, bitch!" Adam shouted. I flinched when he yelled at me.
"Ow..." I said, rubbing my shoulder.
The bottle the white-haired girl had been holding flies over the courtyard and at the feet of a black-haired girl, who picks it up and notices the Schnee Dust Company logo on the side as she reads from a book and looks over at the scene.
"Yo dude, are you okay?" I heard a voice say.
"Yeah..." I said. I looked up to see a familiar face... wait, two.
"Holy shit, Angel? Cherri Bomb?" I said happily.
"Lana?" Both Angel and Cherri said.
Us three best friends cheered and hugged each other.
"Gurl!" Cherri said while ruffling my hair.
"Man, it's good to see you guys!" I said.
"Back at you!" Angel said.
"Where have you guys been?" I asked.
"Funny story actually." Cherri said.
"I...I found my mom." Angel said.
"You did? Who is it?" I asked.
"Winter Schnee," Angel said.
"Wow, that's cool," I said.
"That girl is my aunt," Angel said as he pointed at the white-haired girl.
"Oof, I'm sorry you have to put up with her," I said.
"Eh, it's fine. I'm used to it." Angel said, shrugging.
"How have you been? Is uh... Val around?" I asked.
Angel tensed up when I mentioned Val. "I'm sorry. I forgot." I said.
"That dickhead is not around here thankfully," Cherri said.
"Good," I said.
"Oh, uhhh... about that," Cherri said, pointing to Ruby and the white-haired girl who was supposedly Angel's aunt.
She is now covered in soot, though it quickly disappears. She continued yelling at Ruby. "Unbelievable! This is exactly the kind of thing I was talking about!"
"I'm really, really sorry!" Ruby said, apologetic and embarrassed
"Ugh, you complete dolt! What are you even doing here? Aren't you a little young to be attending Beacon?" The White-haired girl yelled.
"Well, I-I..." Ruby said nervously.
"This isn't your ordinary combat school. It's not just sparring and practice, you know! We're here to fight monsters, so... watch where you're going!" The White-haired girl said.
Ruby is finally fed up. "Hey, I said I was sorry, princess!" She yelled.
"Yeah, leave her alone! It's her first day so back off!" I yelled.
The Black-haired girl entered the conversation. "It's heiress, actually," The black-haired girl said. Ruby, the White-haired girl, and I look over as the black-haired girl approaches with the bottle. I noticed another figure behind her too. I recognized him to be Husk.
"Husk?" I said.
"Hey, kid," Husk said.
"Weiss Schnee, heiress to the Schnee Dust Company, one of the largest producers of energy propellant in the world." The Black-haired girl said.
The girl, Weiss is smiling smugly. "Finally! Some recognition!" She shot me and Ruby a dirty look.
"The same company infamous for its controversial labor forces and questionable business partners," Husk said.
"Ooh, burn!" I shouted, pointing at Weiss.
Weiss is getting angry again as Ruby and I chuckle. "Wha- How dare- The nerve of... Ugh!" Weiss gets up in the black-haired girl's face and takes the bottle from her, walking off in a huff as her helpers gather the luggage and follow.
"Man, what's her deal?" I asked.
"Dunno," Angel said, shrugging. Weiss noticed Angel was still with us.
"Angel!" Weiss shouted.
"Uhh, got to go. I'll see ya later though. Bye." Angel said.
"Bye," I said. I watched Angel following behind Weiss. Cherri and Husk follow them.
"I promise I'll make this up to you!" Ruby shouted to the storming Weiss, still sorry. Ruby sighs. "I guess I'm not the only one having a rough first day... So, what's..." She sees Blake walking off as well.
After all of that chaos, Adam and Lute walked up to me. "Lana. We need to talk." Adam said firmly.
I knew whenever he said those words, it wasn't good. Lute and Adam were both pissed at me. I could already tell where this was going. My body tensed up when they pulled me to the side.
"You left a few days ago without me knowing. I deserve an explanation for this." Adam said.
"I left because I couldn't stand you guys anymore!" I shouted.
"How dare you!" Lute yelled. Lute slapped me. Hard.
"Hey!" Ruby yelled. Ruby stepped in, but Adam pushed her back. Emily tried to help too, but was also pushed back.
"Leave her alone!" Emily shouted.
"Stay out of this, pipsqueak. This is between me and my wife." Adam said. Adam glared at me again. "And you left without us knowing or without our- MY permission. And worse, you went off to this dumbass school!"
Lute circles around me. "That's a rule broken, sweetie. And you know what happens to those who break the rules." Lute said.
Adam gripped my chin, forcing me to look at him. "I am going to make you regret breaking the rules. You are my wife. You are to obey me." Adam said.
"And me," Lute added.
Adam's grip on my chin tightened. My heart pounded. I was shaking in fear. Suddenly, a fight mode kicked in. I punched Adam in the face.
"You damn bitch." He growled. My eyes widened, realizing what I had done. I have never had the nerve to hit my husband before.
Adam swings a punch at me.
"A-Adam! Please, I'm sorry!" I cried.
Lute pushes me to the ground. "Shut up. You don't get to hit him like that." Lute said angrily. Lute roughly drags me up and holds me in place.
I struggled against her grip. Adam starts to hit me again.
"Adam, please. Stop! I didn't mean to!" I shouted.
Adam didn't stop. He continued to beat me. I felt fresh blood on my face. I cried as Adam punched me again. Tears streamed down my face. A few minutes later, Adam finally stopped.
"I hope you learned your place. Next time you do that, I'm gonna fuck you in front of your whole family and Sera. Do you understand?" Adam said, his voice dangerously low.
I nodded with my body still shaken. More tears fell down.
"Good," Adam said.
Lute roughly lets go of me, causing me to fall. When the two left, Ruby rushed over to me.
"Are you okay?" Ruby asked.
I shook my head. I cried into Ruby's arms. My body still hurts like hell. Emily went over to comfort me too.
"I'm sorry," Emily said.
"Welcome to Beacon..." Ruby says sadly. Ruby patted my back to comfort me.
"Hey, Ruby. Not everyone has their first impressions." Emily said. We remain this way until a shadow comes over us.
"Hey... I'm Jaune." The figure said. He held out his hand.
Ruby takes his hand. "Ruby," Ruby said. She stands up.
"What's your name?" Jaune asked me. I was going to say it but the voice didn't leave my lips.
"Her name is Lana. She's my friend." Ruby said.
Jaune notices the fresh wounds on my body. "You look hurt. We need to get those taken care of." Jaune said.
"Yeah," Ruby said. Ruby takes another look at Jaune. "Aren't you the guy that threw up on the ship?"
Ruby snorted a laugh. I gave a small chuckle, despite the amount of pain I was in.
Ruby and Jaune took me to the infirmary to get my wounds taken care of. After I got taken care of, Ruby, Jaune, Emily, and I took a walk around the campus. I did feel a bit better after hanging out with Ruby and Jaune. I liked Jaune. Beacon inside the walls is filled with scenic trees, arching architecture, and a winding road alongside a river, down which Ruby, Jaune, Emily, and I are walking.
"All I'm saying is that motion sickness is a much more common problem than people let on!" Jaune said.
Ruby laughs. "Look, I'm sorry! Vomit Boy was the first thing that came to mind."
"Oh, yeah? What if I called you Crater Face?" Jaune said.
"Hey, that explosion was an accident!" Ruby said.
"It was kind of funny though," Emily said.
"I exploded too," I said.
"Still funny," Emily said. I just rolled my eyes.
"Well, the name's Jaune Arc! Short, sweet, rolls off the tongue - ladies love it!" Jaune said.
"Do they?" Ruby and I said, skeptic.
"They will! Well, I-I hope they will. My mom always says that... Never mind." Jaune said.
Ruby giggles before a short, awkward silence falls. "So... I got this thing!" Ruby said. She pulls out Crescent Rose and stabs it into the ground. Emily and I nearly dodged it.
"Cool!" Emily said when she saw Ruby's weapon.
"Whoa! Is that a scythe?" Jaune asked.
"It's also a customizable high-impact sniper rifle!" Ruby said.
"A-wha...?" Jaune said.
Ruby cocks it, smiling. "It's also a gun."
"Oh. That's cool!" Jaune said.
"I like your weapon, Ruby," Emily said.
"Me too," I said.
"Thanks," Ruby said.
"So what've you got?" Ruby asked Jaune.
"Oh! I, uh..." Jaune unsheathes a blade. "I got this sword!"
"Ooooohh!" Ruby said with interest.
"Yeah, and I've got a shield, too!" He gets his scabbard, raises his arm and expands the metal into his defense.
Ruby touches the shield. "So, what do they do?" Ruby asked.
Jaune fumbles with the shield as it retracts off his arm, expands, and retracts again before putting it back in place and finally shrinking it down for good, placing it on his belt. "The shield gets smaller, so when I get tired of carrying it, I can just... put it away..." Jaune said.
"But... wouldn't it weigh the same?" Ruby asked.
"Yeah, it does..." Jaune said.
Ruby giggles. "Well, I'm kind of a dork when it comes to weapons, sooo... I guess I did go a little overboard when designing it." Ruby said.
"Wait - you made that?!" Jaune said.
"Of course! All students at Signal forge their own weapons! Didn't you make yours?" Ruby asked.
"It's a hand-me-down. My great-great-grandfather used it to fight in the war." Jaune said.
"Sounds more like a family heirloom to me!" Ruby said and laughed. "Well, I like it! Not many people have an appreciation for the classics these days."
Jaune sheaths his sword. "Yeah, the classics... hey, what kind of weapons do you have, Lana?" Jaune asked me.
"Oh, right. This." I said. I drew out my God Killer sword and shield. I also got out my lasso.
"Woah!" Ruby, Jaune, and Emily said.
"You're sword is way cooler than mine!" Jaune said.
"Heh, thanks. I based it on my favorite superhero, Wonder Woman. My lasso works the same as it does in the movies." I said.
"Really?" Jaune said.
"Yep," I said. "Ask me something."
"Okay," Jaune said. Jaune and I take hold of the lasso.
"Who is your celebrity crush?" Jaune asked.
"Taylor Swift," I said. The lasso glowed, which means I was telling the truth. I am a big swifty.
"Nice," Jaune said.
"Hey Lana, do me!" Emily said. Emily held my lasso.
"What is one movie you are embarrassed to admit you enjoy?" I asked.
Emily's face turned bright red. "My little pony..." Emily said. I couldn't help but laugh when the lasso glowed.
"It's a good show!" Emily said.
Ruby moves on again. I trotted a bit to catch up. "So why'd you help me and Lana out back there? In the courtyard?" Ruby asked Jaune.
Jaune walks alongside us. "Eh, why not? My mom always says, 'Strangers are just friends you haven't met yet.'" Jaune said.
"Hmm," Ruby said. Ruby looks around. "Hey, where are we going?"
"Oh, I don't know! I was following you." Jaune said. "Y-You think there might be a directory? Maybe a food court? Some sort of recognizable landmark? Is, uh... Is that a 'no'?"
Ruby laughs. "That's a 'no'. You, Lana?"
"Yeah," I said.
"Really?!" Ruby said.
"No," I said.
A/N:
Another chapter done... yay... I want to address something which is why I am writing this. In no way Lana is a Mary-Sue character. To whoever sent that shit guest review saying that my character is Mary-Sue, fuck you! In no way is Lana perfect whatsoever. Lana has her own problems. So she is not Mary-Sue!
Sorry about that bit of rant, it's something I wanted to get off my chest. Anyways, I hope you all enjoyed this chapter and please leave a review if you can... a nice one please. If you are mean I will delete your review and block you. Thank you guys and have a nice day.
