Blazepanzer here, with a new fanfic, sort of. This one is a bit of a shorter fanfic, multi-chap, but think with a rough target of around 25K-30K words. Basically, a lot of my fanfics refer to this event called the great Schism, yet they don't go into a ton of detail about it. This fanfic is basically the cannon (Blazepanzer fanfic wise) tale of the Great Schism from the view of Ooarai.

With all that being said, enjoy! Note that Blazepanzer does not own Girls und Panzer.

Mako Hazed out as she glanced back toward her fellow tank, before nodding to her RO. "Ashi, ask Yuko how Amelia is doing?" she requested.

"Right," the black haired girl nodded, dialing in proper radio sequence. "Rabbit to Pika, come in Pika," Ashi requested.

"This is Pika, how goes Rabbit?" the girl from the other M3 Lee replied.

"Mako wants to know how Amelia is coming along," Ashi noted.

"The American is doing well, so you don't need to worry bout her," Yuko laughed.

"Very well then, just take things slow, alright?"

"Don't worry Deputy commander, I'm not going to rush things," Amelia promised.

"Atta girl," Mako smiled, although inwardly she was still worried. She's only been in the simulator for three weeks now... Mako fretted. And now she's driving the real thing...is she ready for this?

They had reached the outer skirts of the city when they paused, glancing around. "It's a scatter team match, two vs teams of two," Mako noted. "A test of our new knock out flag systems born of a project between the Matsumino and NASA's computer department," she added.

"Sounds fun," Amelia nodded.

"You think any kind of work is fun," Yuko laughed.

"Well...not anytime, but I find a lot of it fun," Amelia smiled.

"You guys are still on the radio you know," Mako cautioned.

"As are you deputy commander," Yuko laughed.

"Shush," Mako droned. "Anyways, once we get the go ahead we'll head on out and..."

"Unidentified aircraft detected heading your way, you might wanna prepare to move...just in case," their instructor radioed to them.

"Foxdung!" Mako hissed. "Let's head for the trees," she added, making a beeline for them. The Pika began to follow, however Mako's heart sank when she saw a Mig-17 ling up on her. "Jink!" she hissed.

"On it!" Her driver screeched, jinking to the right and barely managing to dodge the rocket barrage.

"You still with us Pika?" Ashi replied, only to receive static. "Pika?"

"They're following us, but their tank took a hit, might have knocked out their radio equipment," Mako noted, smiling a bit as Yuko gave her an OK signal. "Thank Maus, but we cannot take another hit like that," she muttered.

However just as she said that another rocket hit the Pika team, setting it on fire.

"We have to help them!" Mako growled, starting to climb out, but she found that her thirty-five gunner was holding her by the leg. "They've been hit, the only thing we can do for them now is to survive," he urged.

Growling, Mako forced herself back in the tank. "Why are Mig-17's attacking us?" she muttered.

"Mig 17's? You mean the Soviets?" Ashi asked, her blue eyes wide in shock.

"The Soviets would focus on our air bases, not Sensado practitioners," Mako growled. She let out a brief smile as she saw a Saber take down one of the Migs, followed by two more. However, her smile faded as she realized that in all likelihood the Pika team was all dead. But I have to try...right?

Her blue eyes widened as she exited the tank, gazing around as the last of the Mig 17's were shot down. "Damn them!" she hissed under her breath, climbing out of the M3 Lee. Tears threatened to erupt from her, but as deputy commander she knew that it was her duty to check up on her teammates, to see who had and hadn't made it.

Walking up to the other M3 Lee, she began by lifting up the driver's hatch. "Amelia are you...alright..." her throat caught in her as the scent of charred flesh hit her before the sight of the girl's skeleton, with burnt flesh hanging off of her. "Maus Damn it!" she shut her eyes, unable to look at her anymore, let alone the the smell. She stepped back, seeing that there were other skeletons around. Taking her communicator around, she dialed in her instructor. "Instructor Delia, Rabbit team here, Pika is dead," Mako hissed.

"You needn't burden yourself with this..."

"No instructor, I'm their deputy commander, it's my job to look into these things," Mako insisted firmly, interrupting her

"Alright then," Delia sighed. "But it's going to be painful on you to see this awful sight."

"I know," Mako shut her eyes and plugged her nose as she walked away from the Pika team. "Something tells me that this is going to end our Sensado team," she added.

"I'm sorry, but I don't any of us will have the strength to continue," Delia sighed.

I will, Mako gritted her teeth, before walking over to her team. "Pika is dead," she whispered, her voice shuttering.

"All of them?" Ashi asked, her blue eyes wide in shock.

"All of them, Ashi," Mako croaked, tears now flowing down her own blue eyes.

The Isuzu twin nodded, though she looked defeated. We're all defeated, Mako noted numbly, before wiping her eyes. "I'm going to head on out to look for survivors, I want the rest of you to either stay here or head back to the instructor's headquarters, alright?"

"But commander...you shouldn't have to bear this burden," Ashi protested.

"I'll keep them in line commander."

"Thank you Kazuto," Mako nodded to the only boy on her team. You'd have made a wonderful commander next year, she noted to herself sadly, as he was her non-negotiable pick for a new commander. It was tradition for each of the three command position got to pick a new commander if a spot was available, and if there was more than three then they'd come to a consensus with the other.

Our time as a Sensado team just cannot be over! It just can't be! Mako wailed silently, before giving the Rabbit and Pika crews one last look. But...after today...maybe that is for the best...she realized numbly.

She began walking in the last known location, before she heard voices. "Lily, I'll be fine, I'm sure," a male's voice mused quietly.

"But Seto, your arm is turning black," Lilly protested.

A bruise I'm sure," and I need to know if the other have survived," Seto noted gently, before gasping. "Mako?"

Team captain," Mako smiled weakly, gazing at the damaged Panzer IV F2. "Lily is right, you need that arm checked," she chided, though her heart sank when she gazed at it. It'll need to be amputated, Necrosis is already sitting in, She realized.

"Don;t worry about us, I'll stick with him, and Seto already called for backup," Lily reassured her. "Lin lost two of her fingers and a thumb, and Ken lost his foot, but the doctors say that they'll live, and the Matsumino are already offering their assistance. Even with our injuries, Catfish team has survived."

"Thank you for the information, even if it is troubling," Mako nodded, before shaking a bit.

"You alright commander?" Seto asked.

"Pika team is dead, no survivors. We on the rabbit team managed to avoid any injuries, somehow," Mako sighed. "I'm going to look for the other team members," she added.

"I'd say good luck, but there's no luck in this day," Seto snorted. "I know my arm is going to need to be amputated, but..."

"Just go commander, please, it's bad enough that you're going to lose your left arm, don't make Lily lose her husband," Mako urged.

"Please Seto," Lily pleaded with him. "Let's go back to our tank and wait for the ambulance to return," she pleaded.

"Alright then," Seto's voice soften, before he embraced her with his good arm and began walking toward the tank.

Mako watched them go, her heart sinking a bit, but she shook it off and began walking toward where a guy was growling at his team.

"You idiot Mika! You almost killed us!" he hissed.

"And can you blame me!? I was dodging Maus damned bullets and bombs!" Mika hissed in return.

"Yeah, cause swimming in muddy water is sooo much better than driving into the woods!" another girl shouted.

"Trisha..." Mika whimpered as Mako got within viewing range, gasping. Only three of them!? Where is the fourth...Mako panicked.

"On the bottom of the lake," the boy growled, before glancing at Mika. "If it was just us I'd gun for you serving time in prison for recklessness, but we've all gone though enough hardship as it is," he hissed at Mika, before slumping and walking off.

"Sex slavery is too good her her," the brunet french girl hissed before chasing off after her commander.

"I'm sorry," Mika whimpered.

"You panicked, no one in their right mind would blame you," Mako comforted her.

"But I killed Trisha's boyfriend," Mika gazed at her, blue eyes widened in fear.

"Be that as it may, it was an accident. They'll come around," Mako noted, before sighing once again. "Go and join the others at the hanger. Is Trent really dead?"

Mika nodded, her eyes wide with shock and her expression racked with guilt, but she walked off in the directions of the Sensado sheds.

Mako meanwhile looked at the pond, eyes widening as she could still see the trail of mud and a small stream of blood rising up. They're both gone now...but the fact that the Stug made it that far tells me that Mika must have been driving at top speed to escape those bombs...Speaking of... she turned and followed a trail of smoldering grass and pullet laden patches. Geeze, did she have three planes chasing her?! she gasped, before coming on Trisha and her commander both shaking their heads at each other.

"Frog team is dead, but they got out of their tank it would seem first, the engine caught fire for a brief moment." she reported.

"I cannot find Crocodile team anywhere," he added, before glancing at her. "Did you send her to jail, Mako?" he asked hopefully.

"Unless we find one of the pilots who attacked us, no one is going to prison until we know everything," Mako retorted. "Look, Rizo, Trisha, I know you're upset at things, but you've got to go back to the hangers and calm down," she added. "I'll look for the Crocs."

"Thanks, we need to get some help for these leach bites anyway," Trisha grumbled.

"Leach bites?" Mako tipped her head.

"They surrounded Trent, nothing we could do but swim out as fast as we can," Trisha grumbled. "And now you know why were so pissed."

"It's not like Mika knew they'd be leaches in the pond, but trying to dive in like that was very reckless of her," Mako retorted.

"Right, whatever...look, we're off to get treatment," Rizo grumbled, before gently guiding Trisha off into the distance.

I forgot that they were siblings...Mako mused, before walking off to find the Crocodile team in some bushes next to a stream. A trail of blood on the tank caused her heart to sink, and she followed it for a few good hours, only coming upon the old Mark five, which was covered in blood, guts, and flame marks.

"Is...is it over?" a small voice whispered.

"Sachi?" Mako knelt down, surprised to see the young girl under the tank, Next to Sara who was miraculously still alive dispute clearly having a severe case of blood lose.

"Oni-chan is alive but..." Sahci's voice shook.

Mako quickly whipped out her portable radio and dialed in the commander. "Send help to concordance to sector A-17, S-29, and fast! I have a survivor in need of immediate medical attention, heavy bleeding." She noted urgently.

"Understood Mako, paramedics are on the way," Delia noted.

Kneeling back down, Mako watched as the injured girl stirred ever so gently. "Why were we attacked?," Sara rasped. "We didn't go into the town...this time...I promis..."

"Shhh, rest oni-chan," Sachi begged.

"We'll have more information on the attackers by the time you receive treatment. In the mean time try to rest and don't stress yourself, alright?"

"We're here," an ems worker noted.

"Sachi, did you sneak into the tank again?" the other ems worker laughed a bit.

"Almost wish I hadn't, it was only thanks to our small size that Sara and I made it out," Sachi shivered.

"Well, if it were for you she'd have bled out, so it's a good thing you did sneak in," Mako patted her on the shoulder as she nine year old climbed out of the tank.

"Are you mad at me deputy commander?" Sachi whispered.

"In this case, no, not at all, I'm actually very poured of you. But um...no more sneaking into the tanks still," Mako laughed.

"Don't worry, I doubt either of us will be in the tanks anytime soon," Sara groaned.

"Yeah...too much excitement," Sachi balked.

"I here you there," Mako nodded. And Sachi was so eager to join the team when she got old enough! Mako shank, before mentally slapping herself. Idiot! You have more things to worry about than wither or not the Sensado team rebuilds itself!

Wondering around a bit more after the ems workers took off with Sara and Sachi, Mako soon came across four bodies, all bleeding heavily, and the stench of death echoing. "Mako to Delia...we've got..."

"No more...please..."Delia whispered.

"Alright, have an officer cover you, I'll wait at a distance," Mako noted. After a brief wait a male voice came on the phone. "Officer Tom standing in for your instructor, what do you need ma'am?"

"Four bodies, dead, all from the Crocodile team. Coordination is...hm...give me a moment..."

"Don't worry, we'll come pick you up, the investigation team wants you to come home anyways. In the meantime I'll remain on the line until they arrive."

"Understood sir...yeah that'd probably be best..." Mako reluctantly sighed, before sitting down on a rock, and before she knew it, the sobs began to eeb out as everything crept up at her at once.

"Four girls, and the deputy commander is in bad shape," a female voice noted.

Lowering her hands, she walked up to the detective. "Can you give me a report?" she asked, wiping her eyes.

"At least twenty dead, and many of the survivors are suffering with some form of life altering injuries, not to mention that some are currently still unaccounted for," she noted. "Are you going to be okay?" she added.

Mako nodded. "I'll make it through...no mater how hard it may seem."

"Good girl," the detective gave her a little on the head a bit. "Detective Jim will be driving you back to the hanger," she added.

"Right this way ma'am," the detective noted, his broken Japanese evident.

"You're an American detective, aren't you," Mako asked in curiosity.

"Ma'am, those jets may have been a secret purchase to protect the schools from pirates, the American public and most of the government wasn't even supposed to know about it," the female detective noted. "That's why we have Americans alongside us, given this is technically a violation of the disarmament clause in our constitution, but a wavered violation."

"Just like Sensado, I understand," Mako allowed herself to be lead to Jim's vehicle, and sat in silence as he drove her to the hanger, keeping her hands in her lap as imagines of the past few hours flooded her mind.

"We're here," Jim announced as he pulled up to the hanger.

"Thank you for the ride," Mako rose and bowed, before exiting the vehicle, watching as it drove off before entering the hanger.

"Ah, there you are," Tom smiled.

"Where's Delia?" Mako asked.

"We sent her home, the last thing she needs is to be exposed to more of this," Tom sighed. "Same goes for you too really," he added.

"That's why the hanger is so empty?" Mako asked.

"Yeah, we're sending everyone home. You too...or do we have to take you to a jail cell until we clear everything?"

Home will be good," Mako reassured him. "I'm...not in trouble am I?" she asked hesitently, growing a bit frightened at the mention of the jail cell.

"Not at all, we're just threatening the team with the whole jail cell bit, last thing we need is for you to go out on your own and hurt yourselves worse. That Seto kid seemed really upset that he would be put under while his teammates could be injured and dying out-there, thank Maus his girlfriend could talk sense into him."

"Wife, they're married now. And it's no wonder he was like that, given that Seto is our commander and he well earned that position, going above and beyond to make sure that we were all happy, healthy, and well trained." Mako smiled.

"You had a good commander," Tom smiled.

"Right, well I'd better head to my apartment, thank you for all your hard work," Mako bowed.

"Sorry it had to turn out like this kid," Tom apologized, before going back to his station.

As Mako entered her home, she let out a small sigh as she laid down on her couch, and starred up at the ceiling. "Maus...this has got to be the worst day of my life..." she muttered, closing her eyes in a vain attempt to sleep.

Her eyes widened when she thought that she heard a shot, but then realized that it was just her refrigerator engine knocking itself. Why did they have to go with that kind of refrigerator...she whined, before reluctantly rising up and walking over to her refrigerator.

"I have enough time to cook, but I'd rather not..." she mused as she grabbed the TV dinner and microwaved it. She was about too grab a bottle of ketchup when she imagined flames and blood ozzing out of it, and retracted her hand. Maybe I ought to skip the condiments this time around, she mused, closing the cabinet as her microwave dinged.

Taking the food out, she sat down with her work board and was about to dig in when the scent of the meat nearly made her gag. "Push through it dammit..." she muttered, managing to disassociate the scent of the meat with the recent smell of burning flash and take a bite. This struggle went though as she ate the chicken portion of the meal, and both the mac and cheese and green beans portion were much easier for her to digest.

As she finished though she looked at her left hand and frowned. Seto...her mind thought numbly as she remembered that his left hand and probably his entire arm would have to be amputated. Rising up, she turned on the radio as she normally did when house cleaning.

"Special report..."

Mako glanced up as the new announcer's voice echoed around the room.

"Attacks across several academies, including the Ooarai, Kuromorimine, Sanders, Pravda, St:Gloriana, Reniko, Tenzui, Verdja, and Ostrich academies have been attacked with what appears to be fighter aircraft. Details are sparse, but causalities have been reported, and both Gloriana and Kuromorimine have reported infighting at their schools. Death...yes deaths have been reported. Leah, back to you,"

"I'm here at Sanders where many of the girls we've spoken to are actively calling for war against the Soviet Union. In a speech General Secretary Brezhnev has denied Soviet responsibility for the attacks, and stated that he wholeheartedly condemned the attacks on the school ships and has pledged cooperation in all manners. Akaito, back to you."

"American investigators have been reported to join the Japanese investigators in according to the limited rearmament treaty. So far details have been sparse and...this just in on the wire, it seems like Kuromorimine and Gloria have all been attracted by weapons other than aircraft..."

Mako walked over, slapping the radio off before closing her eyes and slumping. "So it's been done to the other academies too...Maus damn it!" she growled, before grabbing her coat and walking out of the doors, making sure to lock the dorm to her apartment. Heading to the park, she gazed at the now night sky, trying to calm herself down.

"Are you up there right now, watching down on us?" She whispered, before sitting on the bench.

"Mind if I join you?" a gentle voice asked.

"Go head Lily..." Mako scooted over to give her room. "So...may I ask how he..."

"He's on the devastated side of things, but we're working through it. I left to give him some time with his sister," Lily sighed. "We'll make it though," she added with a smile. "It's going to be different what with me having to work now, but our inlaws are very supportive of the change, so that's a huge weight off our shoulders."

"That's good, kind of makes me glad I hadn't gotten a boyfriend yet. It's hard enough loosing teammates without that extra attachment," Mako smiled.

"You think we shouldn't have dated?" Lily challenged, a slight edge to her voice.

"No dating is fine, just saying that I wouldn't want to have gone through what you've gone through is all," Mako shook her head.

"Good, cause we'd have a fight here and now if you had said that," Lily huffed.

Always overprotective of your husband I see...Mako laughed inwardly, knowing that Lily would throw a punch if someone challenged her or her boyfriend about their relationship. "I know," she noted gently, placing her hand on the girl's shoulder.

"You'd better," Lily smiled sternly, before sighing. "Have you been told the full extent of the damage?" she asked.

"If you know, please tell me," Mako sighed.

"Twenty-five dead, with another twenty three with injuries equal to or greater than missing ear," Lily reported.

"Geezz..." Mako's voice shook at the news. "I see you've taken to using the Matsumino term for life altering injuries," she added.

"They've offered me private nursing training at their school and a job at one of their clinics, it's not much but it'll provide me and Seto enough to live on and provide for our children."

"Still want a boy and a girl?" Mako asked.

"Yep! Though we've agreed to restrict it to two regardless if they are boys or girls, as a precaution against future inflation and what not," Lily laughed.

"Probably a wise idea, not too sure if I'd be brave enough to have a child myself, but we'll see," Mako sighed.

"You still want to go into the professional leagues?" Lily guessed.

"Honestly, I'd like to see Ooarai rebound from this cowardly attack, but I have to face the fact, none of us are going back into a tank." she paused and gazed her friend. "Lily, I thought that my refrigerator kicking was a gunshot, that's how bad I am," she confessed, her eyes growing wide. "And when I went to grab a bottle of ketchup, all I could see was blood and fire, and the scent of the chicken from my tv dinner, I had a hard enough time getting it down without the scent of the meat reminding me of the burnt flesh of the Pika crew."

"I know, it took Seto ages to get me into the tank, and now that that happened...we're both regretting it."

You said that it was the best thing you ever did just a few days ago when I asked how you were enjoying Sensado...the rebellious, stubborn side of Mako wanted to point, but thankfully the more sympathetic, practical side of her didn't allow those words to escape.

"I can't stop thinking of Trisha...as well as Yuko and Amelia," Lily confessed. "Amelia finally got her mother's permission to join Yuko in Sensado...and in her first real outing they both get killed."

"I almost insisted on having them spend one more day in the simulator, but Seto and Yuko argued against it."

"I know, Seto's really been beating himself up for that one, but let me tell you what I told him, it's not your fault. Amelia did everything right, you and Seto did what you thought was right. There was no way anyone could have guessed that we'd be attacked today." Suddenly Lily's expression turned to confusion. "I've heard rumors that we were attacked by Migs, but that cannot be right, can it?"

"It was definitely a Mig-17," Mako confirmed. "But it had different markings on it, no red star or anything..."

"Korean maybe?" Lily suggested.

"No, America and the Soviets would throw a right conniption if they tried that," Mako shook her head. "It is true that they hate us for what our ancestors to them, and you cannot blame them one bit, considering we'd be just as pissed if someone did that to us. But they're not that vengeful," she added.

"Just putting it out there. Believe you me, I do feel that vengeful," Lily confessed.

"Any word on Mika?" Mako asked.

"She turned herself in after being treatment. Trisha and Rizo suddenly became very apologetic, but Mika insisted. You know how she is about these things..."

"She's the only one I know stubborn enough to wear a short sleeve dress to school," Mako shook her head.

"Least she keeps it sensible enough, though she's supposed to wear the uniform," Lily grumbled.

Mako had to let out a small laugh. "We all thought that way about it." she then let out a trouble sigh. "But for her to be going to prison..."

"She'll be fine. She's going to that newly designated woman's prison...what was it called. Tig...something..." Lily frowned. "Strange that I can't remember, but she'll be fine."

"I hope so..." Mako shrugged. "From what I heard on the radio multiple schools were attacked in similar manner."

"Which ones?" Lily asked, her voice slightly squeaking in surprise.

"Including us...the big five," Mako shrugged. "What's been bothering me...well what isn't bothering us about this, but what's bothering me of note is how they reported that only Gloriana and Kuromorimine had damage from weapons other than aircraft."

"You means like javelins and such?" Lily gasped.

"Maus only knows what at this point," Mako sighed, before gazing back up at the stars. "If she hadn't left yet think I'll try and visit Mika in the morning," Mako rose up. "You stay safe now, alright?"

"You too Mako," Lily smiled, waving her goodbye.

As Mako made her way home, she frowned. We used to be able to smile and joke like that and appreciate the feeling of it. But now...after this... "Are we always going be be drug down by the memory of this attack," she sighed gustily.
