Dog was like a peanut; he was a shell full of charm that could win any argument, no matter how salty of a debate, yet had a brain the size of a small nut that carried a distinct sweetness to it. He saw the light in everything, in his own naive fashion, even when reality was staring directly at him in the face. He never allowed circumstances to change him for the worst (or for the better), and was stubborn in the fact that he would never give up chase in catching anything—whether it be a garbage truck or finding a single ray of hope to cling onto for another day.
Cat wasn't sure what to call Dog's accepting nature: ignorance, patience, carelessness, kindness? The half canine fit into every single one of those categories, yet none of them at the same time. In comparison, Cat was a slogan he himself could never live up to, but Dog was the action that needed to take place to bring that slogan into a spoken truth. Dog was everything Cat wasn't, a depressing frame of mind, truly.
Yet what others didn't seem to understand was that Cat was also everything Dog wasn't.
Cat was the moderator between Dog's mental chaos and the world's own chaos. The feline was often the one having to challenge Dog's naive assertions, whether or not it was favorable. He took the broken end of the stick just so his brother could have the untampered end. Cat was the trunk end of a car that was rammed into, constantly, in order for Dog to see through the headlights of a better future.
Having creamer is a nice punch of flavor to add to anyone's lifestyle, but in the broadest scheme of things, one could never have creamer without also having bitter coffee in its mix. Creamer couldn't kick the brain into high gear, it couldn't give the boost of energy needed. It was merely there to add a sweet flavor.
A dog can't be a dog without a cat to chase, and a cat couldn't be a cat without a dog to avoid. Dog needed Cat, just as much as Cat needed Dog. Otherwise, there could never be a CatDog.
