A month had passed since they had returned from Mercia and the Valeryon's were ready. The box containing the evidence had been entrusted into the hands of Lord Strong to do with as he wished. Laenor had gone to High Tide to ensure the last of their possessions had been packed up and was out of the castle even as Rhaenys was having Dreamfyre unchained. Corlys sat at a small council meeting, the last he ever planned to attend.
"How is it that this council can sit in session while we have traitors in our midst? How is it that we can refuse to talk about how Ser Otto's daughter made two separate attempts on the life of the King's only child while we were visiting her home and we just brush it off? How is it that more than twenty years ago we allowed a CHILD to be punished super harshly for crimes that were committed against her rather than seeing her attackers punished to the fullness of the law?"
"Enough, Lord Corlys," yelled Otto. "If there is a traitor in our midst, it must be you as you still believe that your wife should be Queen. As for your other questions, you have no proof of anything."
"Yes, I do believe my wife should have been Queen as if she had, we would not have the succession crisis we have now. We also might not have the succession crisis if traitors had not been working on destroying House Targaryen from the inside out. I may not have evidence of your daughter's crimes against my young cousin, Ser Otto, but I was there when she confessed to, on your orders, to kill Rhaenyra and her family while they slept by burning them alive in their home. Alicent called them a sacrifice so she could have a Hightower son to be King since Rhaenyra's rape did not work as a sacrifice to give her, and you, what you want.
My Lords, the King's daughter, Rhaenyra, was raped on the order of Ser Otto and Queen Alicent as a 12 year old girl and was unjustly punished for a crime she did not commit. Meanwhile her attackers have been allowed to go free under the orders of Ser Otto and Queen Alicent who claimed that they were the innocent victims of the cruel seduction of a 12 year old maiden princess."
"Lord Corlys, YOU OVERSTEP!" shouted Otto. "You have said nothing but LIES in the chamber today. No Targaryen born is ever truly innocent as they are all born from the sin of incest. My daughter and I act upon the will of the Seven and therefore are innocent of any deeds that may go against the sensibilities of others but that support the will of the Gods. You, yourself even told this council that Rhaenyra had been a whore though who can truly tell when she began to whore herself out. Perhaps it was at the same time as she first mounted her winged beast and perhaps that is what drew her to mount the beast to begin with. She wanted to divest herself of her maidenhood somewhere outside the watchful eyes of her Septas and Maesters. No one can truly know for sure."
"Treason is still treason no matter how you try to justify it Ser Otto and attempted murder is the same. The Gods' know all and I believe they are punishing your daughter, the true whore, by keeping her from having a child. Soon enough, I believe you will face the justice you've tried to serve upon the innocent."
With that, Corlys stood up and stormed out of the Council chamber and headed for his ship. Once there, he boarded and soon left Westeros behind.
