Countess Nyra of Dunham,
It is with great sorrow that we, the ruling council of the Seven Kingdoms, must inform you that your father, King Viserys has died. He leaves behind 112 widows and 168 mistresses, all of whom he has made arrangements for.
In his final days, your father admitted just how much he truly failed you but how proud he is of how you've made something of yourself. He knows that you truly found yourself a wonderful match and have had a happy life, which he hopes will continue, even long after he's gone.
His pier was set alight through torches carried by his 70 Queens in the outer bailey of the Red Keep and his ashes have been interred beneath the stones in the room where his dragon's head resides since Dragonstone is no more.
If there's anything we can do to help you in your time of grief, please don't hesitate to let us know.
Sincerely,
Seven Kingdoms Ruling Council
When Nyra first received the letter from the Council, she figured it was another message begging her to return to Westeros to inherit after her sire. However, when she read the missive, she wasn't sure how to feel.
"Nyra, what do those Westrosy menaces want from you this time or is it more of the same?" asked her husband, seeing her uncertain look.
"Viserys is dead and the Ruling Council wanted to inform me of it. They said that in his last days he was happy I found you and that we've built a happy life together. They wanted to know if there's anything they can do for me in my time of grief," she replied. "How can I grieve for a man I hardly knew and has been out of my life for the better part of 38 years? I did grieve, once, long ago, shortly after my banishment, the father I believed I once had but have long since overcome that grief. Viserys is nothing to me."
Sihtric took the message from his wife's hands and set it on a table before pulling her into his strong arms.
"I know. I know how you feel as its similar to how I feel about Kjartan. Being here, at Dunham, sometimes I expect to see or hear him but he's long gone. A ghost from another time. Viserys gave you life but then chose to be a stranger. Its his loss, not yours and perhaps, one day in the afterlife, he may be able to atone and become a father to you but I know he never will here. Hopefully now he's dead, his people can leave us alone."
Later, Nyra took time to reflect upon her sire. Had Viserys ever actually loved her? Had he ever truly wanted her to be his heir or was she merely a stop gap to prevent his brother, her Uncle Daemon from possibly inheriting the throne? Did she ever truly delight him or make him proud? Did he see her as his daughter or a pawn to be sold off once he had his precious son, especially after she had grown too old to really serve as a bride and bloodmare to the boy?
Was he ever truly sorry for allowing his Whore to mistreat her and her family while they were in Mercia? Did he truly ever understand just how much Sihtric loved her? Did he really ever come to understand just how much she loved the life she built?
She didn't know and knew that only in the afterlife she would finally, possibly, get those answers.
