KONOHA NINJA ACADEMY
Naruto stood outside the familiar academy building, staring up at it with a nostalgic grin. It felt strange to be on this side of things, waiting to meet his own genin team. Now it was his turn to guide the next generation.
Taking a deep breath, Naruto stepped into the academy, moving toward the classroom where the newly graduated genin were waiting for their sensei to arrive. With a smile Naruto pushed open the door.
The room was buzzing with excitement. New genin sat in small groups, talking to one another, Naruto scanned the room and quickly called out his team, together near the back. Hanabi, Shinichi, and Ruyoshi all stood up and walked to the front of the classroom. Hanabi, arms crossed, was staring at him while Ruyoshi nervously fiddled with his headband. Shinichi quietly was occasionally glancing at the others
Ruyoshi is a boy with light skin and messy dark brown hair that falls loosely around his face, His brown eyes, He wears a simple black top under a dark green coat that flows slightly past his waist, contrasting with his dark blue shinobi pants with a kunai holster on his right leg. His hands are clad in grey fingerless gloves, he has black shinobi sandals with wrappings secured around his ankles and his headband around his neck but what drew Naruto's attention was the giant wings on his back.
Shinichi is a girl with long, sleek black hair that falls to her shoulder blades, while a portion is pulled back into a ponytail. She has sharp brown eyes. She wears a short-sleeved black top that contrasts with her dark grey shorts, and over it, a striking red sleeveless coat. Her legs and right arm are covered by mesh armour, while her left arm is wrapped in bandages, she has dark grey fingerless forearm gloves.
All three looked up at him, and the room quieted for a moment. Hanabi raised an eyebrow, Ruyoshi's eyes widened in surprise, and Shinichi gave a slight nod of acknowledgment.
pointing to himself with a thumb, his trademark grin firmly in place. "Naruto Uzumaki, your new sensei! I hope you're ready for some serious training because we're gonna do things my way!"
Ruyoshi blinked, clearly not expecting the energetic introduction. "Wait, you're our sensei?" he asked, looking slightly overwhelmed. "The, Naruto Uzumaki?"
"The one and only," Naruto said, giving a peace sign. "Future Hokage and the guy who's going to make sure you three become the best ninja you can be!"
Hanabi sighed, leaning back in her chair. "I guess we didn't win the jonin lottery," she muttered under her breath.
Naruto's eyebrow twitched slightly at the comment, but he chose to ignore it. "Alright, let's not hang around here all day. How about we head somewhere a little more interesting?" he suggested, his grin widening. "I've got a good spot in mind for our first meeting."
Ruyoshi perked up at the mention of leaving the classroom. "Sounds good!" he said, eagerly following behind him, his wings shifting slightly behind him.
Shinichi nodded, Hanabi, after a moment of hesitation, followed suit, though her expression remained indifferent.
Naruto led the team outside and toward the village outskirts, eventually arriving at a quiet clearing near the woods. A gentle breeze rustled the trees, and the sound of distant birdsong filled the air. The place had a peaceful, secluded feel, perfect for a private conversation.
Naruto turned to face his new genin team. "Alright, now that we're out here, let's get to know each other a little better. I'm sure you all have goals and dreams, right? How about you tell me why you became a ninja in the first place?"
Hanabi huffed, crossing her arms. "Do we really need to do this? We're here to train, not have a heart-to-heart."
Naruto chuckled, scratching the back of his head. "You're right, but trust me, understanding each other is just as important as any training. It's not just about what you can do—it's about who you are. You'll see."
Hanabi sighed but didn't argue further.
"Let's start with you, Ruyoshi," Naruto said, nodding toward the boy.
Ruyoshi straightened up, looking a little nervous but determined. "Well, uh, my name is Ruyoshi Kimera, and I'm from a clan that has animal traits, mine being wings. My goal is to get stronger so I can help end the civil war in my birth land."
Naruto smiled at him. "That's a great goal. Big dreams are important."
Ruyoshi smiled back, seeming more at ease after hearing Naruto's words.
Naruto then turned to Shinichi. "What about you?"
Shinichi kept her gaze steady as she spoke. "I'm Shinichi Shihi. My goal is to become the strongest genjutsu user in the village."
Naruto nodded thoughtfully. "Genjutsu, huh? It's a tough path, but I can tell you're serious about it."
Finally, Naruto looked at Hanabi, who was still standing with her arms folded.
"I'm Hanabi Hyuga," she said simply, her voice calm but laced with determination. "And I'm here to surpass my sister and become the strongest Hyuga ever. That's it."
Naruto's eyes softened at the mention of Hinata, but he didn't let his expression change much. "Surpassing your sister, huh? Sounds familiar," he said with a grin.
Hanabi raised an eyebrow, curious but not letting her interest show too much.
"Alright, now that I know your goals, I've got a challenge for you," Naruto said, his grin growing wider. "We're going to do a little test tomorrow to see just how well you work as a team. Trust me, it'll be fun. Meet me at Training Ground 7 at dawn, and don't be late!"
Ruyoshi nodded eagerly, while Shinichi and Hanabi exchanged glances. Naruto could sense that Hanabi wasn't too impressed yet, but he knew that would change soon.
"Remember," Naruto added as he began to walk away, "being a ninja isn't just about strength or skills. It's about trusting each other. I've seen teams fall apart because they didn't trust their teammates, and I've seen teams succeed against impossible odds because they worked together."
As he disappeared into the trees, his voice echoed back to them. "See you tomorrow, guys!"
The three genin stood in silence for a moment after Naruto left.
"Well, that was… something," Ruyoshi said, breaking the silence.
Shinichi shrugged. "He's different. But maybe that's a good thing."
Hanabi didn't say anything, her thoughts unreadable as she turned and started walking away. "We'll see tomorrow."
As they each went their separate ways, one thing was clear: tomorrow's test would be the first step in discovering whether they had what it took to become a true team.
KONOHA TRAINING GROUND 7
Naruto arrived at Training Ground 7 bright and early. The morning sun bathed the clearing in soft golden light, a perfect day to meet his new team. He stood near a wooden post, arms crossed, a smile on his face as he remembered the day he had met Kakashi here, years ago. Today, it was his turn to guide the next generation.
A flutter of wings caught his attention. Ruyoshi Kimera swooped in, landing gracefully on the grass, his massive wings folded behind him. His dark brown hair rustled slightly in the breeze, and he gave Naruto a nervous grin.
"Morning, Sensei!" Ruyoshi said, a little out of breath. "I didn't want to be late."
Naruto chuckled. "Don't worry, you're early. Let's wait for the others."
Not long after, Hanabi Hyuga strode into the training ground, her confident demeanour making it clear she wasn't here to waste time. Her Byakugan wasn't active, but Naruto could tell she was already assessing the area out of habit. Behind her, Shinichi Shihi followed in silence, her sharp eyes scanning both Naruto and her teammates. She gave a quick nod to Naruto but said nothing, her expression calm and unreadable.
"Alright, looks like everyone's here!" Naruto said, clapping his hands together. "Before we get started, I want to see what I'm working with. So let's do some introductions."
"We did that yesterday," Hanabi interrupted, folding her arms. "Can't we just get to the training?"
Naruto raised an eyebrow. "You might know who each other are, but do you know what makes a team strong?"
Ruyoshi tilted his head, his curious spirit clearly stirred. "Jutsu"
Naruto grinned. "True, but strength comes from trust, and trust comes from knowing your teammates. So, humour me. This isn't about just me learning about you—it's about you learning about each other."
Hanabi sighed, rolling her eyes slightly but relented. "Fine."
Ruyoshi took the hint and went first. "Like I said yesterday, I'm Ruyoshi Kimera. I'm from a clan that is known for having animal body parts such as wings and horns. My dream is to perfect my clan's jutsu and to end the civil war in the land of gems. I like my friends and family also training" He grinned, scratching the back of his head sheepishly.
Shinichi crossed her arms, her voice low but confident. "Shinichi Shihi. My goal is to become the best genjutsu user in Konoha I like spending time with my friends and learning about genjutsu"
Naruto nodded approvingly. "Good! Now we're getting somewhere. And last but not least, Hanabi."
Hanabi flicked her long brown hair over her shoulder. "Hanabi Hyuga, of the Hyuga clan. My goal is to surpass my sister and become stronger than anyone else in the clan. I like my sister Hinata and cousin Neji."
Naruto stretched his arms and grinned. "Alright, enough chit-chat. Let's get to the fun part! Today's test is simple: you have to take these bells from me before noon." He pulled out two silver bells, giving them a small jingle. "But there are only two. Which means one of you… will fail and go back to the academy."
Before they could ask more questions, Naruto attached the bells to his waist "Start!"
Hanabi wasted no time activating her Byakugan, her vision locking onto Naruto's chakra points. She dashed forward with incredible speed, aiming for Naruto's arm. At the same time, Shinichi flanked to the side, preparing to throw a barrage of shuriken, her sharp eyes analyzing Naruto's every move.
Naruto easily dodged Hanabi's initial strike, his movements fluid as he side-stepped the shuriken thrown by Shinichi. Ruyoshi, taking advantage of his wings, launched himself into the air, attempting to dive at Naruto from above.
Naruto smirked. "They're all working independently, This is going to be interesting."
With a quick motion, Naruto used Shadow Clone Jutsu creating a single clone . The clone intercepted Ruyoshi mid-air, forcing the winged genin to back off as the real Naruto continued dodging Hanabi and Shinichi's attacks.
"You're fast, Hanabi, but you're relying too much on your Byakugan," Naruto called out. "And Shinichi, you can't just sit back and watch forever!"
Hanabi's eyes narrowed, frustrated by his taunts. She increased the speed of her strikes, trying to corner Naruto, but he was too experienced, slipping away each time.
Meanwhile, Ruyoshi, frustrated by his failed aerial assault, tried a new tactic. He flew higher into the air, "wind style: wing gust jutsu" Ruyoshi used his wings to create a gust of wind aimed at disorienting Naruto. It wasn't enough to break Naruto's balance, but it certainly caught his attention.
"That's more like it!" Naruto shouted, impressed. "But is that all you've got?"
Shinichi, watching the others fail to land a hit, suddenly stopped her barrage of shuriken and signalled to Ruyoshi. "Distract him again. I have a plan."
Ruyoshi nodded and flew higher, flapping his wings to kick up another gust of wind. This time, as Naruto braced himself for the attack, Shinichi moved in closer, using the cover of dust and wind to slip behind him unnoticed.
With a flash, Shinichi hurled a kunai, its trajectory aimed not at Naruto but at Hanabi. The kunai skimmed past Hanabi's arm, making her flinch and react. She stepped aside instinctively, her hand brushing Naruto's pocket where the bells were.
It was in that brief moment of distraction that Naruto realized what was happening. "They're finally working together," he thought with a smile.
Hanabi's fingers brushed one of the bells, but Naruto quickly pulled back, hopping out of range. He turned to face them, the bells jingling softly at his waist. "Not bad! That was close."
But as Naruto spoke, a kunai wrapped in ninja wire shot forward, snagging one of the bells from his waist. Shinichi, who had hidden in Ruyoshi's dust, pulled the bell toward her with a satisfied smirk.
"I got one," she said, her eyes gleaming.
Naruto chuckled. "Alright, you got me there." But before Naruto could do anything the second bell slipped from his hand, caught in a gust of wind from Ruyoshi's wings. The bell flew toward Hanabi, who caught it mid-air "got it"
Naruto grinned. "Congratulations. You all passed."
"But only two of us got bells," Hanabi said, her Byakugan still activated. "Shinichi and I—what about Ruyoshi?"
Naruto shook his head. "The test wasn't about the bells. It was about teamwork. If you all fought like individuals, no one would've passed. But you worked together in the end. That's what being a team is all about."
Ruyoshi let out a relieved laugh. "So we all pass?"
Naruto nodded. "That's right".
The three genin exchanged glances, unsure what to say. Naruto smiled to himself. They still had a long way to go, but this was just the beginning.
"Alright, we'll meet here tomorrow at dawn for some training then your first mission. Get some rest—you'll need it!" Naruto called, watching as his new team left the training grounds.
As they walked away, Naruto couldn't help but feel a surge of pride. Maybe being a sensei wouldn't be so bad after all.
