A month after Cornelius made the decision to follow his parents to Venus, he found himself with them in a training camp. Here they would learn to use the local tools, build buildings, cook, sew, heal, dress, speak and even fight; all with authentic items. In addition to this, they would be briefed about religious and cultural practices and the local politics so that they could blend in better.

The Fillmore's all thought of themselves as being in pretty decent shape, however, they quickly realized that they weren't.

During the six months of training, Cornelius wound up gaining a great deal of muscle and skill as a farmer.

Finally, they neared departure day. The family of three was informed that they would be settled into a village called Coccham in a small nation state called Wessex. The family would also be broken up with Cornelius having his own cottage apart from his parents due to his age. They would arrive in Coccham in early spring, just as spring planting was beginning so that they could help with it. Then they would depart the following year after spring planting.
